Burden to Share
Forget medication or therapy, as it turned out the only thing that Jinx needed to get better was a gorgeous girlfriend. The embodiment of sunshine and nerdy-ness and magic. As long as Jinx had Lux by her side she was convinced she had everything she needed.
"Jinx for the last time, dating isn't replacement for therapy." Caitlyn scolded her as she dragged her with some difficulty through her house.
"Oh yeah? You were pretty damn down and then you started dating my sister and got all better."
"She's right, Cupcake." Vi peaked her head from behind the door of their built-in gym. It was a wedding gift from Caitlyn but Vi didn't use it till a few days after. She had to show her appreciation properly. "And Jinx, you really should go to therapy every once in a while. It's good for you. Been good for me too."
Jinx deflated and dug her heels harder into the floor, making Caitlyn stumble and groan. "Not fair. I want to go see Lux, we have a date today and I won't bail on her to talk to some chick in a fancy coat with a fancy paper to tell me I need to find my inner peace, what ever the fuck that means."
At some point all the advice she was told started to sound the same. Being with Lux was much more fun, and Jinx was nothing if not honest with her feelings. That was good. Right? Yes, that was a good, nice quality. Her brutal honesty.
"Oh! Speaking of my Luxy, I gotta go or I'll be late. Don't wait up!" She pulled her wrist away from Caitlyn's grasp and zapped to her sister's side to give her a quick hug before running out. Honestly, Vi and Caitlyn worry to much, what's a few missed therapy sessions gonna do? Make her go crazy? Ha!
She was fine when she met up with Lux who hugged and kissed her not caring who saw them do it. She was fine when they walked through the streets and Jinx talked so loudly about her newest gadgets, contrasted with Lux's quiet bragging in her latest breakthrough in magic. She was fine when they came back to the room Lux rented for her stay in Piltover and fell on the bed cuddling and kissing each other breathless. She was fine when she fell asleep in Lux's arms.
No, she wasn't fine when Lux woke up and saw Jinx trashing, turning and groaning in her sleep.
Lux was with Jinx long enough to know when she was having a nightmare, a flashback or when she was seeing things and hearing voices. "Jinx, wake up, it's not real." She kept her voice and touch soft so she wouldn't startle the other girl.
She touched her shoulder, it was just a slight brush of fingers against the tattooed surface but it was too much for Jinx, who bolted upwards, eyes wide and pink, hands grabbing at Lux's forearms and pushing her against the nearest wall with a loud thud.
"Jinx, it's me. It's Lux." But Jinx didn't see her, she was looking somewhere past her, at someone or something that pissed her off, or scared her, or both. She raised her fist and aimed her punch at Lux's face, missing by an inch. "Jinx!" Lux pushed against her, her magic flaring up to give her that final burst of strength that finally separated the two women.
Jinx grunted as she hit the floor, her eyes adjusting to her environment. "What the fuck am I doing on the floor?"
Carefully, and with one hand still in front of her Lux approached. "Jinx... are you here with me?"
"What are you on about Sunshine, where else would I..." Jinx froze when she saw the slightly cracked wall behind her girlfriend's shoulder. She was by Lux's side faster than the mage could blink. "Lux! Are you hurt?! What did I do?! Should I leave?! I should leave! I'll go back to Vi and... and..." She looked tensed, shoulders square and breath suddenly slow and deep. "I can't go back there. I can't tell them I messed up. What if they don't want me there anymore?"
"Jinx, look at me, please, look at me." Lux kept her voice even and gentle and her hands lightly tracing Jinx's arms, over her tattoo, up and down. Jinx blinked her tears away as her eyes met Lux's pretty blue ones. "You had a nightmare, sweetheart. It's not your fault."
"Yes it is! Vi and Caitlyn told me I should have skipped therapy so much. But... I wanted to see you, and I was doing so much better, I thought I was okay." She allowed herself to be lead to the edge of the bed where Lux sat and guided Jinx's head into her lap. Her fingers smoothed through Jinx's hair, from the top of her head all the way to the ends.
Jinx curled up against her, too scared to look at her but too scared to let go, her arms wrapped around Lux's leg. "Honestly I don't think any of us are gonna be entirely okay. Not me, you, my brother, your sister, Caitlyn, Ekko... we all have our baggage, but we don't have to carry it alone."
"I don't want to skip on our dates though."
The mage sent some extra warmth into her hands, illuminating the side of Jinx's face. "We'll always have time for those. And I won't get angry. Do you get angry at me when I have to do my job?"
"Well no but... I can't... what if I hurt you next time?" Finally she looked up at the blonde.
"Then you'll have to kiss it better." Lux joked but deep down she wasn't sure. She had the same worries, what if her magic got out of hand and she hurt Jinx? She brought those worries up before and Jinx never flinched away from her, she won't ever leave Jinx either.
They both have a lot to carry, but they can always share those burdens and heal what ever injuries come from them. As a team.
