A/N: For those of you wondering where Jamie went to school for college: I actually never mentioned it in this story. I talk about it in the prequel to this fic: Intersections of Joy and Sacrifice.

Cora found herself in the backyard once again, staring up at the starry night sky. She loved spending time in the backyard by herself sometimes. It helped clear her head. Plus it was peaceful. The creak of the back door opening and closing alerted her to someone coming outside.
"Daddy?"
She heard a familiar laugh and instead saw Patrick.
"Do I seriously look like dad?"
Cora frowned and threw invisible daggers with her eyes at Patrick.
"The exact copy of dad when he was a teenager. But yes, I do know that you're not dad Pat. What are you doing out here?"
Patrick took a seat on the swing next to Cora's. He had a few envelopes in his hand.
"These are for you."
Cora cautiously took them from Patrick, her hand was shaking.
"These are either my acceptance letters or my rejection ones. Let's go inside so I can open them in front of everyone."
Patrick and Cora got up from the swings and head back into the house. The entire family had gathered for dinner, and they had finished. Everyone was hanging out in the living room. Patrick looked at Jamie on the couch and jutted a thumb backwards at Cora.
"Found her dad. She was in the backyard, stargazing on the swing set."
Jamie smiled over at Cora as she managed to squeeze between him and Eddie. Setting the small pile of envelopes in her lap, she picked the first one up. She felt around the edges and then the middle of it.
"It feels kind of thin."
Danny looked her straight in the eye and gave her a flat expression.
"I bet it's a rejection letter. Sorry kiddo."
Cora's eyes grew wide.
"No way Uncle Danny. My grades were perfect, and I wrote excellent essays, along with glowing letters of recommendation."
He added two more cents to the conversation.
"I don't know kid… You'd better prepare yourself."
Cora huffed out a frustrated sigh.
"Ok, I'm opening the letter."
Her hands shook as she ripped open the envelope. Taking the letter out, her frown turned into a smile. She read the first two lines out loud,
"Dear Ms. Reagan,
Colombia University is proud to send you this letter of acceptance into our school for the next school year. We congratulate you welcome you to our school. Good luck in your educational endeavors."
Sincerely,
Michael Serenton,
Admissions
Cora smiled and refolded the letter, placing it back inside the envelope. She set it off to the side and looked at the next letter. It was from Stanford. She smiled and scanned the letter. Then she turned it around and showed everyone.
"I got in!"
The whole family began to cheer. The other two letters were pretty much the same kind of acceptance letters. Now all Cora had to do was choose which school she wanted to go to. Jamie sat on the edge of the couch and looked at her expectantly.
"So, baby girl, which school are you going to respond to? Remember, you can only pick one school."
Cora now had all the acceptance letter out of the envelopes again and they were spread out across the coffee table in front of her.
"I actually looked up Harvard's program for Medical school. Very interesting stuff. But it's too far away. I'm going to go with Colombia."
Jamie broke out into a full-fledged smile, pulling Cora into a hug, then kissing the side of her head.
"You chose well honey. Remember if you need help with your classes, I'm here to help you. I'm so proud of you. Always know that."
Cora beamed and looked around the room at everyone.
"Thank you for being here for me, everybody. I really do appreciate it."
Frank piped up from a chair.
"You know you will always have family by your side. This family sticks together, through thick and thin."
