Chapter 26: Fortunes Be Told unto Thee – Youkai in Shinjuku… After Dark??
/
And guess who lives in Shinjuku??
/
Ami didn't back down for a chance to find her partner in magic. She barely knew Iyori, yet was dying to see why her mind said to go for it. To bring her back, even when she had her own…. obligations. A fiancé who was groomed into one by Iyori's father. How Reizo – san was…kind of sympathetic to the situation but…
Ami chewed her lip as the train took them out. It was only an hour left. She could get to Tokyo, down to the red-light district-
"Ami, get dressed." Kaede tugged her arm as the ebony haired teen batted her blue eyes at the fox gyaru. As in, why?
"You'll be exposed as a student. Here. From my stash…and Haru helped." The older teen granted Ami a skirt that was black, pleased but a bit longer than her mini skirt outfit from a month ago. The shower she had were fine, the socks were over the knee but the top was….
Like a miko. The top, being all red. "You're giving my yakuza – lady threads to try on??" Whispered the anxious Chosen. "I'd super get hit on!"
"It will make you look older, you're short as is. Nit to mention not street smart." Shrieked the fox. "Here." She pulled out a pair of hair ties. "Hair up. This will be a difficult fight. I can materialize a way out of the building we're going to. You said in the district; there was a fortune teller's card in your bag?"
"Yep." Ami saw Aya listening with one eye opened across from them. "What about you two? Is Aya going incognito? Oh, I have one more power move." Ami pointed to her back pack as she pulled out the special case that held Shoji's gift. The red crystals glowed back with the grasshopper spirit letting out a gasp. "Put them back." She warned the two others. "It us dangerous to show a soul…if our "hunch" becomes a war zone…" Aya leaned into her seat and sighed deeply. "Iyori sama…. I might never be the soldier you wished to know…."
"Kinda how I felt about Ami after I got to know her." Kaede plopped over by Aya, informally. "Why did you not reconsider? She is kind, yet you are far too strong to ….well, you do not fit as a match to me." Aya crossed her arms to comment. "You…are not at all so very close…. not that k could tell. As if you guard her…what has sge done for you?
"What has Iyori shown you?" Kaede leaned in her seat, shaking her head as she recalled their short-lived tension in the Beverly start. "My sister…Haru. She was ecstatic when Ami was revealed to be our new charge. I was, not so sure. She was young. Yet Haru…our bond wasn't like it is as you've seen. Ami lost her once, she saved that child and her memories. Her bitter self, they were given a new face."
/
In the fight against the Greek Gods of Blame and sleep, Haru had sacrificed herself, only to be reborn in her immortal body as a younger version of her kitsune soul. Kaede had become less intolerant of Ami and her family. They got along now, then…back then, Kaede had been corrupted by all of that hate inside of her. Haru had warned her sister to quiet the demons, yet…
(Chaos arc. Haru gets resurrected as a younger kitsune than her first appearance. She has a different personality because of this.)
/
"Your sibling…. died??... for a human??" Aya threw head down and kowtowed. Ami was dozing off before a few people in the next row looked back and hijacked at the odd apology happening between Kaede and her partner.
"My…greatest apologies…you and Haru – san. You are indeed more than loyal to have died in battle against a fie of that child's. She us indeed right now in need of our assistance." Kaede pulled down her shirt collar and showed as she turned , a red brand. Kaede was stunned by how bold…the train patrons all looked down at their phones or ignored the spirit in a human body. Her beauty was not as she wanted to admit, yet her just acts were…
Aya had suffered for Iyori before. But by what, and whom ?
/
Iyori looked for a way out. Passing Reizo after supper, she wondered if he cared to go against Kohaku. Her father was nothing if not ruthless in his takeover of Takahara Corp. Shoji …where and why?
~ Iyori – San? ~
The girl got up from her stupor and went to the hall, out of the living area of their manor in a very upscale Tokyo plot. She was treated like a princess in her tower as the face happened to be her only friend in this miserable time. "Saturday…" She sighed as he waved cheerily back, before seeing her forlorn expression. ~ We cannot have you so glum. I will prepare a lovely tea session if you…are you willing to join tomorrow? Your father will be busy with his executives. I would gladly accompany-
"I would like to speak with my fiancé." Iyori went and spoke to her companion. ~ That is against Kohaku's rule here –
"He only believes I would listen!" Iyori shouted before biting her lip. "I had, other things I did for fun…I was as human as…as…"
~ You forget the real you, Iyori – hime. ~ Saturday said in a low purr to the lady of the home, tonight. "You know about what happened. The curse…you believe me, don't you?"
~ I was here since the beginning. ~ Smiled the conning Djinn. ~ Raku and his band don't even recall how close we are. Aya was too weak to protect you. Your father is only trying to build the true you…please. Rest. ~
"Why, Raku? That demi God? I could sense his aura…it made little sense. As if…-
~ He is neither man nor God. ~ Frowned the jinn. ~ His father would be worried to the grave for that boy's future, yet I worry only for you. The family that took me in.~ He got to one knee, letting Iyori know that his hand was to her own, that he cared.
For a cost.
~ Go and rest early for tonight. ~ Reassured the far creature. ~ I shall tell Kohaku – dono not to worry. He seemed tense without you, until now. He must care if Reizo is back for us. ~
"Reizo was weaned on Father's plan to make me a bride. To extend the line and have no future for myself to own." She waged Saturday off. "I want to be alone. Go." She commanded while holding back her disgusting in her own flesh and blood "You only care to his word, yet I am your keeper!"
~ Iyori…. sama…~ Whimpered the Jinn as he walked backwards; away from the fight as her markings tried to get even more developed, yet failed as she withheld a breath.
"Do not make me say it again, Saturday. Go."
/
Saturday panted into the next hall. He evaporated and went to the one room where he could report the girl's display of magic.
"ENTER."
Kohaku Dairenji was in the seat of a true master. He held his stance as some corporate Mafioso boss, though he was far from dealing with false devils.
But real ones, as Saturday revealed his true form. His arm cuffs were golden as he put his fists together and fell to one knee, a bit more formal than with Iyori.
~ Sir, the princess is restless and will escape if she is not watched mode carefully. What has the matron of your plot explained? ~
"She cannot be wrong. The matron God we are seeking to appease is, never. She is family, Saturday." Smiled the CEO as he got up to have Saturday from the floor. "Though, you've stayed to watch my children for too long. It is not done. You told me that the one to release my ancestor from her cell in the Underworld was of your clan of Djinn. Hammurabi, was he?" Asked the CEO. (A different Hammurabi.)
~ Yes, and I recalled they are related to that boy she us so fins of. The demo godling, Raku. ~ Snorted the jinn, showing his true side in this mission. ~ He is bound to become the tool we'll need beside Iyori in order to cement and gain the wish of that goddess. She –
"She beckons, and I hear. My wish, is to have what was lost by the child's birth. That she is useless to me, yet her mother could be given life again. Since she is not dead. Only trapped."
~ TRAPPED??~ Gasped the djinn. ~ She…your wife is alive?? But, how?? Iy –
~ Iyori – sama should be left in the dark, dear descendent. ~
The two turned to see Ageha and her newest light. Her body of a butterfly maiden was why Iyori's curse had gone into effect, yet now Saturday was just seeing why.
"Ageha, you come at a late enough time. What of your mistress-
~ That family of yours is only a tool, Kohaku – san. ~ She listed a bit and hopped over to a miserable Saturday. He could feel her dark energy washing over his form as he reverted and looked up at her, twirling her long pipe and smiling. ~ Keep the girl in her home, for now. The greater her curse grows, the closer our prophecy might be towards granting your wish, Kohaku – dono. ~
"You'll give her back, as long as Iyori is given to the queen." Kohaku nodded. "She'll be ready. I won't have her breaking from her obligation to me. That she must never discover that her curse. Is a gift from her mother's ancestor. Abe – no – Seimei. The damned and man that killed and cursed my ancestor, Lady Jorogumo now…. she was once a court woman and that…" He hissed, seething as Ageha reveled in his misery. "Without that brat, she would never have had to die! You'll keep your word, Ageha. No harm shall come to either of them, unless I say so. This ruse, this face as Shoji's enemy is working." He grinned darkly at the crux that was now the man's to bare.
"I have to make it so that what was owed to me, is once again. Fortified for generations…."
/
Ami made her way to the street where lights shone off as will o wisps and fireflies in her summer enhanced mind. Enchanting as it was, this district had a dirtier history to display for most foreigners. Little did she guess it, this…was like a smaller Vegas strip or a California coastal workout.
" HII! HII! HOST Bar's SPECIAL FOR SUMMER DRINKS. ANYONE? WE ARE –
"Welcome back, are you bringing friends tonight?"
"Oy! Eh? You got something to say to me? Huh??"
Ami shied away from that bar fight as Kaede was their guide. Aya, was wolf whistled by her long lean figure as she shuddered off the odor of drunks and fun time gambling men in their forties….
She was closing in on being some thousand years older like Kaede. However, the stench wasn't all, it was cleaned up like any city street. Not a run-down place, yet polite and very vibrant.
Red lights, golden but the aura was unmistakable as pixie dust at her front door. Ami rushed into a crowd to find the scent she smelled. Flowers. Something not yet to decay. Aya hopped in front as Kaede got Ami's attention. "We need to stay together."
"We're going to lose her trail." Ami huffed. "I was –
The eyes of a "Teki- Teki were looking on as Ami stopped, gripping both her pigtails with a yelp. "I…woah."
"You read the signs, miko?" Aya frowned. "This is a place of disaster. Spirits will gather to feed on the weak. You mustn't succumb."
"She's right about that, and that those demons are in an eating mood. Don't give them your approval," Kaede snarled as the demon walked off on all fours like a gator. A sharp scissor for its head. It rushed off after a long haired woman with a pair of shades who had gotten too wasted instead.
"At least you are underage." Sighed Kaede as she tugged Ami along like a little kid. "Come on. We can get to the source, only if you concentrate. The red gem should dispel any aura we can't read properly."
"Was that what it was for? I thought it materialized energy." Ami scratched her cheek as Kaede explained further. "The guidebook it came with has multiple uses for the thing Takahara has crafted. Try one out."
Ami nodded, getting further away as her hands grasped the stone. A spell from her lips to it made spots dance in magenta. The essence that was a certain butterfly demon.
"Easier than I thought." Ami marveled at the speck as Kaede grinned to Aya. "Stay close. From now on, we are in this till we get some answers. Period."
"As you might wish it, Ageha is a spectre." Aya replied as she walked by them. Flanking by the back, her hidden antenna picked up sounds that humans could not. Kaede had her eyes and ears. Let her try to protect her charge by these dark streets. "If we catch her, she us not entirely bound to reveal her true form. She did so partly on the ghost train, only to tempt us to save our charges. Ami…did she leave a mark –
"I don't think so." Ami looked at her arms, pulling up a red three-quarter sleeve. "No, I…think it was only the thread from her web that cut me. Amaterasu's magic must have healed the rest."
"Your brother can heal too." Kaede reminded the ebony child. "He healed what he could in that plane accident."
"Slade made him pissed." Ami rolled her eyes. "The dots are still there…wait…!" Ami stopped them. Her own orbs dilating as Aya saw Kaede fail to shield the miko from her attackers.
"SPORES." The white and dusty flecks showered down as snowflakes in mid-winter. No humans saw, yet demons began to fall into a trance as Ami almost was. Aya used her power to put a shield over Ami's nose and mouth like Kaede. Ami gasped into her lungs, dispelling the dust as she reclaimed herself. "You…. can do that?" Ami asked the grasshopper spirit.
"A grasshopper has layers to its armored face." Aya exaggerated a bit. "Ami – san, you cannot smell what we know is a demons' lure."
"It wasn't spores." Kaede's tail swatted a mosquito demon as it got the hint. " Powder." Kaede moved ahead as Ami shook her head of the dust in it. "From a moth."

(To clarify. Ageha, Saturday, Kohaku and Jorogumo (her name is up on here somewhere- big reveal later,) they are in this together to do something crazy when Iyori's curse does talk full control. The truth? Iyori's mother is still alive?? Find out!
