Chapter one
Seventeen year old Ginger Foutley had just finished feeding her three year old half sister lunch and was helping her change her clothes when she walked down the hall. "You want to watch Kalie?" She asked her fifteen year old brother Carl, who was in the living room. "In the middle of a round." "Come on Carl. I need to change my shirt. She got peanut butter on me." "Fine. Come on little sis." He said, calling the toddler who walked over, and climbed on the couch next to her brother.
Ginger went upstairs and pulled on a clean shirt, tossing her dirty one in the laundry just as she heard her stepdad's car pulling in the driveway. "Why are they back?" "I don't know. Maybe mom forgot something. You check. I'm taking the squirt outside to play." Ginger walked downstairs and opened the door. "You forget your…Will?!"
Standing in her doorway was William Patterson. Her best friend, Darren's, older brother. The guy she had become good friends with, and had some pretty strong feelings for. Without thinking, she wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tight. "What are you doing here? I missed you." "Hey Red, I had to run a few errands. Plus, Jamie's been feeling pretty down the last few days and really wanted me to bring her to see you." Will was working as an instructor at the local gym and his younger sister was staying with him while his parents and brother were looking at colleges. He answered when a young girl came in behind him. "Jamie? Hey kiddo, why are you feeling sad?" "You didn't come see me. Did you forget about me?"
Ginger knelt down, pulling the four year old girl into a hug. "Jamie, I could never forget about you." She stood and looked at Will. "My step dad and mom had to go to a medical conference so I was getting
everything ready to watch Kalie. I haven't had a free minute all week. Actually you know what?" She looked back down at Jamie, "Carl and Kalie are out back. Do you want to go play with them?" Jamie smiled and looked at her brother. "Can I please?" He nodded and she ran through the house, to the sliding door.
Realizing he was staring at Ginger, he reluctantly looked away. He never expected to become friends with someone like her, and he definitely didn't expect to miss her as much as he had the last week he hadn't heard from her. She was beautiful standing at 5 '6 with fiery red hair, green eyes, and was very sweet. He had known her since they were little, and lived next door to each other until her mom married Dr. Dave and they moved. They didn't hang out much back then, anytime she came by it was to hang out with Darren. A year ago however, they started talking more, trading numbers and texting. She was always asking how his day was going, and checking on him. At first, he didn't think much of it, but after about a month, he found his mood was better and he had looked forward to her random messages he'd get throughout the day.
"Sorry to just drop by. Jamie was just upset and begged me to bring her to see you." Ginger was disappointed, but not surprised. Will was an awesome guy, smart and funny, and, at 6 foot, with a strong athletic body, dark brown hair and eyes, he was gorgeous. But he just turned nineteen a couple weeks ago, and she didn't really expect him to see her as anything more than his younger brother's friend.
With disappointment in her eyes Ginger looked up at Will. "I'm sorry you had to drive over here." "Ging.." "She can hang out for a couple hours and I'll bring her home so you don't have to waste your whole day." He touched her shoulder, "Hey, coming to see you is never a waste of time." She blushed slightly, "You want a soda or something?" "Sure."
