After a virus brought about by an attempt to cure cancer with a modified form of measles eliminates 99% of the world's population, the remaining humans either turn into vampiric mutants called darkseekers or survive due to natural immunity.
The majority of people from Chaimberlain, Maine are transformed while a few manage to escape. This doesn't include one telekinetic teenager named Carrie White, who is among the immune.
At first she struggles to survive against the vicious monsters inhabiting her home town. Even with the power of mind over matter, Carrie has difficulty fending off the hordes of creatures looking to feed on the last girl in Chaimberlain.
