Chapter 4
"Surprised you're up at ten in summer." Ginger said, watching Carl getting a bowl of cereal. "Someone jumped on my bed and woke me up." He said, brows raised and Kalie giggled, making Ginger laugh. "Carl pway with me." "Yeah yeah, I know, eat your cereal first." He said but smiled, putting the small bowl in front of her. He was pretty close to their little sister and she loved following him around. Ginger grabbed some orange juice from the fridge, pouring her sister a small cup, before getting out the cold brew coffee for herself. Before she could take a sip, her phone went off
You busy today?
I don't think so
Can we meet?
She looked at Carl. "You have any plans?" "Not until tomorrow. Jojo won't let Hoodsey out until he cleans his room." "Can you keep an eye on Kalie for a bit?" He shrugged. "Sure."
Where?
How about your place in about an hour?
I'll be here
Ginger went and changed out of her sweat pants and night shirt and put on a pair of black distressed jeans and a red v neck t-shirt. She felt nervous about what Will wanted, and dreaded the possibility he was going to say kissing her was a mistake. She brushed her hair and teeth, heading back downstairs just as his car pulled in the driveway. "Be outside for a minute." She called into the living room where Carl had turned on the TV for Kalie.
"Ginger, I'm back." Jamie yelled excitedly when she opened the door and Ginger laughed. "Kalie is inside watching cartoons with Carl. You can go in if you want." Jamie climbed out of her booster seat and up front, getting out of the passenger side door, and ran inside. "Hop in Red." Will said, unbuckling but not opening his door. She sat down in the passenger seat, closing the door. He was looking ahead when he spoke. "About yesterday," He started, and she held her breath, waiting for the speech of regret. "I'm sorry. Well, I'm not sorry, but I should've asked you first."
Ginger released her breath, confused. "You didn't need to ask me." She blurted out. He turned in his seat and looked at her, a grin fighting on his face. "I didn't?" She shook her head, feeling the heat rising in her face. He smiled, showing his perfect teeth. "Good, cause to be honest, I couldn't stop thinking about you and how much I want to kiss you again." He tucked her hair behind her ear and leaned over, his mouth crashing onto her own. This time, she responded, putting her hand on his arm and leaned closer. With no one to interrupt them, he gently cupped the back of her head, holding her.
Ten minutes later, Will's phone went off. Reluctantly, he pulled away and checked it. "My boss needs me to cover a shift today." "Why don't you leave Jamie here instead of taking her to the babysitters. She can play with Kalie." Ginger answered, her breath shaky. "You sure about that?" "Yeah, I don't have any plans today." "What about later?" She shook her head. "Dodie is a counselor at camp Caprice this summer and Maci went on a 'rediscovering your childhood' road trip with her parents so it's just me until summers over." "So are you free tonight? I can pick up some pizzas after work." "Really?" He laughed. "Yeah really. I didn't come over here just to make out and run. Though, it was very enjoyable." She blushed thinking about the feeling of his mouth on her own. "I came over here to ask you out." "Oh wow. Yeah, I'd love to go out with you, Will." "Sweet." He kissed her again and she felt her heart skip a beat. "See you around seven?" "Can't wait."
