After Everything
Chapter 34
Lucas looked to her. Taking a deep breath.
(Luke. We're supposed to do skin to skin.)
(It helps with are all these benefits for the baby. And it helps us with bonding.)
(I've done all this reading on it.) Brooke said.
(I know you have but this whole situation was so emotional and intense.)
(She has 24 hours. Then there's the 7 days she has after birth. Once she signs the papers.)
(To revolk consent.)
(We have to do things the right way. Everything I've read says by law what she decides in those 7 days is her decision and I think its best if we give her and the baby some space.) Lucas explained.
The expression on Brooke's face hardened.
(I don't like or understand how that is allowed. So we wait and let her make all the decisions!)
(That's not fair!) Brooke exclaimed.
(I know. I don't either. But we need to do what is by the book. Then once those 7 days are over.)
(She will let us know what she's going to do.) Lucas insisted.
(Okay. You're right we need to put our feelings aside.) Brooke said.
(Mr and Mrs. Scott. Alex is asking for the both of you.) A nurse said.
Brooke put a smile on her face. And followed Lucas into the hospital room.
(I just really wanted and needed to thank you you Brooke. And you too Lucas.)
Who wants to hold him first?) Alex asked.
Brooke stared down at the newborn. He had dark hair. And dark eyes.
She felt her heart ache. She felt tears filling in her eyes.
(I'll go.) Lucas said.
Walking over to them. As he opened to his arms.
Alex gave him the baby.
Lucas's face lit up. He realized then how wrong he had been.
He couldn't love this baby more.
He cradled him and talked to him. Grateful to see how healthy and strong the newborn was.
Lucas eventually handed the newborn back to Alex.
(We'll hear from you in a week right?) Lucas questioned.
(Of course.) Alex replied.
Lucas turned to leave and only then realized Brooke had left the hospital room.
He found her in the hospital.
(Take me home please.) Brooke said softly.
Lucas wrapped his arm around her and they left.
