Paw Patrol: The Cave Pup.
The sun shone brightly on Adventure Bay. It seemed like a typical day, but Ryder and the Paw Patrol knew that trouble could be just around the corner. They had just finished a daring rescue, plucking Chickaletta from the top of the Lookout's weather vane where she'd gotten herself stuck again, much to the amusement of Mayor Goodway. "Thanks, Paw Patrol!" Mayor Goodway chuckled, holding Chickaletta safely in her arms. "You're always there to save the day."
Just then, Ryder's pup-pad rang. "Ryder here," he answered.
It was Captain Turbot, his voice filled with excitement. "Ryder! You won't believe what I've found! A prehistoric pup...frozen in a block of ice! And the ice is cracking! We need to hurry!"
Ryder didn't waste a second. "Paw Patrol, to the Lookout!" he called out. The pups, already geared up for action, piled into the elevator, their excitement mixed with a sense of urgency. Moments later, they arrived at Captain Turbot's research station, a small, snow-covered outpost nestled near the icy shoreline. As they approached, a loud crack echoed through the air, followed by a boom as a large chunk of ice exploded. From the center of the shattered ice emerged a small, furry creature – a pup, unlike any they had ever seen. The pup looked around, its eyes wide with confusion, and let out a low growl, startling the assembled pups. Marshall, ever the medic pup, cautiously approached. "Don't worry, little one," he said gently. But as he got closer, the prehistoric pup bared its teeth and growled again, more fiercely this time, causing the other pups to back away slightly.
"Whoa! A Tumat pup!" Ryder exclaimed, recognizing the ancient breed. "That pup's probably been frozen for thousands of years. Everyone, be careful! Marshall, can you check her over?"
Marshall, still a little shaken from the growling, cautiously approached again. "Okay, little one," he said, his voice a bit shaky. "Let's see if you're...a-okay!" He reached out a paw, but the pup flinched, pulling back slightly. "She seems mostly cold and definitely scared," Marshall reported.
Suddenly, the Tumat pup spoke, its voice surprisingly clear despite its ancient origins. "You! Boy looks like owner," she declared, taking a step towards Ryder. Before anyone could react, she shoved Marshall aside – not roughly, but with surprising force – and moved closer to Ryder.
Chase, ever the protector, immediately stepped in front of Ryder, a low growl rumbling in his chest. "Whoa there," he warned. "Easy."
The prehistoric pup tilted her head, studying Chase. "You alpha male round here, pup?" she asked. Chase, confused, stammered, "Uh...no?"
The pup's ears drooped slightly. "No? Not good," she muttered. She looked back at Ryder, her expression pleading. "Must say things to Alpha! Only to Alpha! You! Boy, that looks like owner. Where's Alpha Male?"
"I'm the leader of this team." Ryder said.
"Ah! I found you!" Terra exclaimed, her posture relaxing slightly. "Boy is like owner! Do you want progress check, boy owner?" she asked.
"I'm Ryder," Ryder replied, still trying to understand the situation. "What's a 'progress check'?"
"Progress check!" Terra repeated, as if it should be obvious. "Like me, old, and others! Does not boy Rider want to know how strong his pups are?"
"I do want to know how my pups are doing," Ryder said, carefully choosing his words.
"Me is Terra," the pup announced proudly. "Old as 300 sunrises. As boy Rider's pet, you give me orders, and me do it quick-like. Is good for you?"
"Well, Terra," Ryder began gently, "this is going to be difficult to understand, but...I'm not your owner. And it's been a very, very long time – thousands of years, in fact – since your owner...since anyone from your time...would likely be around."
"What?!" Terra exclaimed, her relaxed demeanor vanishing. "Boy Rider must have lied! No other reasons! No, me would not believe boy Rider! Bring proof before me, believe boy Rider! Other than proof, me does not move from spot!"
"Paw Patrol, to the Lookout!" Ryder called, a note of concern in his voice. He glanced back at Terra, who remained rooted to the spot, her expression troubled. "Captain Turbot, would you mind keeping an eye on Terra while we discuss this back at the Lookout?"
"Of course, Ryder," Captain Turbot replied. "I'm sure we can have a nice chat about prehistoric times."
As they rode back to the Lookout, Chase turned to Ryder. "Ryder, permission to speak?"
"Go ahead, Chase," Ryder replied.
"Is it wise to leave Terra with Captain Turbot?" Chase asked, his brow furrowed. "I mean, if I were frozen in a block of ice for thousands of years, I wouldn't be mentally stable. And what was with all that 'alpha male' talk?"
"Yeah," Zuma chimed in. "Is 'Ancient Dudette' going to be okay?"
"I share your concerns, pups," Ryder admitted. "Leaving Terra with Captain Turbot isn't ideal, but we need to figure out how to help her. As for the 'alpha male' thing, it's probably a cultural difference. Remember, Terra comes from a completely different time. Her understanding of leadership might be very different from ours."
Meanwhile, back at the research station, Terra was trying to explain her past to Captain Turbot, but her words sounded like a foreign language to his modern ears. "Me part of group of pups," she said, gesturing with her paws. "Me a leader of pups, but owner is Alpha Male. Me answers to the Alpha Male. The Alpha Male can be man or pup."
"Interesting," Captain Turbot replied, stroking his beard. "So, you were on a team? Like...a patrol?"
"No," Terra corrected him. "Patrol...me and others protect against danger."
"Turbat," Terra asked, tilting her head, "may me ask question?"
"Sure!" Captain Turbot replied.
"You help me find proof me wants?" Terra asked.
"Absolutely!" Captain Turbot said enthusiastically. "What kind of proof are you looking for?"
"Me knew that cave near water," Terra explained, "and was like in the mountains where water mammoths live."
"Water mammoths?" Captain Turbot repeated, a lightbulb going off in his head. "Oh, you mean walruses! I know exactly where that is!" He pulled out his pup-pad and quickly dialed Ryder. "Ryder, it's Captain Turbot! I have some exciting news! I think I know where Terra's cave is!"
"That's great, Captain Turbot!" Ryder replied. "We'll be right over."
"Captain Turbot, you said you found Terra's cave?" Ryder asked as he and the pups arrived at the dock where Captain Turbot's boat was waiting.
"Yes, indeed!" Captain Turbot exclaimed. "Do you know where Wally the walrus lives? Well, Terra's cave is inside the mountain on Walrus Island!"
Terra, who had been listening intently, stepped forward. "Boy Rider and the one pup named Chase," she said, glancing at Chase, "according to Turbat, me and other pups with owner as the Alpha Male, was 'Prehistoric Patrol,' like you. Me a leader of pups, but also owner's pet and answers to the Alpha Male. We protect against many dangers. Me hope for some closure."
"That sounds like quite a responsibility, Terra," Ryder said. "We'll do our best to help you find that closure. And you're always welcome at the Lookout. With your strength, you could even be a reserve member for Rubble if needed."
"Which pup is Rubble?" Terra asked.
"I'm Rubble, Terra!" Rubble announced proudly, stepping forward. "Rubble's here on the double!"
"Rubble," Terra said, nodding in acknowledgement. "Me would be honored to be your backup. As for Rider, Turbat, and other pups, me too happy to help. My phrase is, 'Terra is ready to move boulders.'"
"You know what would be a better phrase?" Skye suggested. "Terra is ready to terraform!"
"Terra is ready to terraform!" Terra repeated, a smile spreading across her face. "Me likey! Terra's new phrase is that!" The group then boarded Captain Turbot's boat and set off for Walrus Island.
"Me see water mammoths!" Terra exclaimed, pointing towards a group of walruses basking on the shore. "Cave is close by!"
As Captain Turbot steered the boat closer to the mountain, Terra suddenly cried out, "No! Go back! Me cave back there!" She pointed towards a narrow opening in the rock face, partially hidden by thick vegetation.
Captain Turbot carefully maneuvered the boat towards the opening. It was a small, secluded cove. A crude pier, constructed from roughly hewn logs and boulders, jutted out from the shore. "Wow," Captain Turbot murmured, "a prehistoric port! It's amazing it's still here." The pier was weathered and worn, with some logs missing and others riddled with holes, likely the work of marine creatures and time.
Terra, her eyes fixed on the cave entrance, leaped from the boat onto the pier. With surprising strength, she effortlessly lifted a large boulder that blocked the entrance. Then, using her teeth, she pulled on thick, gnarled vines that served as a makeshift curtain, revealing the dark opening of the cave.
"Cave sweet cave. Me back!" Terra announced, a hint of relief in her voice. Her words were met with chuckles from the pups.
Inside the cave, the walls were covered with faded but still visible cave paintings. One particular painting caught Terra's eye – a depiction of six pups and a caveman standing near the peak of a mountain. "Me draw that one," she said, pointing to a stick-figure pup in the group. "That one is a favorite 'cause painting is of me."
As they ventured deeper into the cave, the resemblance to the Paw Patrol Lookout became uncanny. It was as if they were in a prehistoric version of their own headquarters, albeit one built with natural materials and ancient techniques. Perched on a ledge overlooking the main chamber were five frozen Tumat pups, and beside them, a caveman – his features strikingly similar to Ryder. No wonder she thought he was her owner, Ryder thought to himself.
"Friends frozen!" Terra cried out, her voice filled with alarm. "Rider, help me free them!" Ryder and the pups immediately began to assess the situation. Rocky tried his tools, carefully chipping away at the ice. Rubble attempted to move the block, but it was too heavy. Chase used his scanner to analyze the ice, but it was too dense to penetrate. Zuma and Skye tried to melt the ice with their pup packs, but the ice was too thick. Despite their best efforts, after several minutes, the Paw Patrol had made little progress.
Terra, her initial hope turning to desperation, began pounding on the ice with her paws. "No!" she cried, each *BANG* echoing through the cave. "Must *BANG* free *BANG* friends! *BANG* No!" Finally, exhausted and defeated, she slumped to the ground.
"I'm so sorry, Terra," Ryder said gently. "We've tried everything we can."
"Boy Rider has not tried harder!" Terra retorted, her voice laced with anger and disappointment.
"We promise we'll come back, Terra," Rocky said reassuringly. "We'll figure out a way to free your friends."
"Wait!" Terra exclaimed, shaking her head. "Me not good on wait. But thanks for trying." A flicker of determination returned to her eyes. She placed her left paw on the ice block, a silent vow passing between her and her frozen companions. "Someday," she whispered, "me will be back to free friends! No matter how many sunrises it takes!"
