Ruby: "You know, when I was little my dad forced me to eat, like, everything on my plate. And I hated it."

This file is the one for incident 0105022004. Its picture shows a blonde-haired woman wearing a dark purple undershirt and black shorts, sprawled lifeless over what appears to be the floor of her bathroom.

Shannon: "We agreed that if we ever give a child a loving home we won't enforce that rule. If this next death is anything to go by."

Zoom in.

We open to the woman in what appears to be a hotel room, attempting to stuff an entire chocolate-covered pastry into her mouth.

Date of Incident: May 2, 2004

Location of Incident: Beechwood Hotel, New York City, New York

Backing up a bit brings us to an earlier scene, which shows the woman wheeling a suitcase through one of the hotel's corridors.. The camera is positioned low to the ground, so only her legs are visible. She is wearing a pair of hot pink and black stockings

Ruby: (Narrating) "Nice legs. They've been seen on fashion runways all around the world."

The camera turns around to show the stockings from behind.

Ruby: (Narrating) "Natasha is, like, a supermodel."

Cut to the inside of her hotel room, where we see the door open and Natasha steps closes the door behind her, puts her bag away to one side and then lies down on the bed.

Ruby: (Narrating) "And right now she's feeling a little… less than super."

We then see Natasha emptying the contents of her suitcase on one of the room's two beds. She then grabs the TV remote and puts the TV on.

Ruby: (Narrating) "Living out of a suitcase and empty hotel rooms, her life of glamour is a full time grind."

Cut to an hour or so later, where we see Natasha examining herself in the mirror.

Ruby: (Narrating) "Worst of all is the constant dieting."

Natasha throws herself on the bed, making several strange noises in the process.

Ruby: (Narrating) "In her world, if you're not thin, you're out."

Natasha rolls onto her back and kicks the air.

Ruby: (Narrating) "What's Natasha's secret? She starves herself."

Natasha continues rolling around on the bed.

Ruby: (Narrating) "To make matters worse, she's fallen into a pattern of extremely destructive behaviour - bulimia."

After some time Natasha gets up from the bed, sits down at her desk and grabs the corded phone from its stand, punching in a number.

Hotel Reception: "Hotel reception, how may we help?"

Natasha: "Yes, room service?"

Hotel Reception: "Room service? What may we bring you?"

Natasha: "Everything."

Natasha puts the phone down and begins waiting.

Ruby: (Narrating) "Shanny, I reckon an explanation is in order for those who aren't sure what this is."

Cut back to Shannon in the office.

Shannon: "Right, so bulimia, short for bulimia nervosa, is an eating disorder, which is just one class of mental illness. It's characterised by a person consuming large amounts of food in a short time and taking measures to avoid gaining weight, such as fasting. As of today it affects between 0.1% and 1.4% of males, and 0.3% and 9.4% of females."

Back in the hotel room we see Natasha sitting on the bed, surrounded by plates of various foods.

Ruby: (Narrating) "This has become, like, a common ritual for Natasha."

Several close-ups of the food items are shown.

Ruby: (Narrating) "Each time it becomes a struggle between love and hate for food."

And then we see a close-up of Natasha's face, who looks like she's staring off into the distance. She suddenly picks up one of the pastries from a plate and takes a bite out of it.

Ruby: (Narrating) "In the end, the compulsion to binge always won out.

A compilation follows of Natasha greedily devouring everything on the plates.

Ruby: (Narrating) "By literally stuffing herself with every kind of dish imaginable, Natasha hopes the empty feeling will go away. She has a fear of becoming overweight, so she's not planning on, like, digesting any of this food."

Natasha then gets up to head into the bathroom.

Shannon: (Narrating) "Time for me to work my CGI magic on this."

The CGI animation begins. It gives us an X-ray view into Natasha's body, where we see her stomach is packed to the brim with food and the acid in charge of digesting it.

Shannon: (Narrating) "The human stomach normally has a capacity of around one litre, but it can expand to hold up to hour litres if necessary. Any further than that, and it might rupture."

Cut back to Natasha in the bathroom. She is hunched over the toilet. She reaches down and opens the lid, then inserts two fingers into her mouth.

Ruby: (Narrating) "In the bathroom, Natasha jams her fingers down her throat to induce vomiting. And then her self-abuse… came to a sudden end."

We return to Shannon's CGI showing Natasha's insides. Suddenly the wall of her overfilled stomach ruptures, spilling blood, undigested food and acid into her abdomen.

Shannon: (Narrating) "Not only is acid spilling into Natasha's body cavity, but any bacteria in the food that survived the acid to this point will be free to start multiplying. That will lead to peritonitis, an inflammation of the lining of her abdomen, which can lead to heart attacks and kidney failure, and ultimately to sepsis and shock, and ultimately death."

In the bathroom we suddenly see Natasha clasp her stomach in pain for a second before she collapses.

Ruby: (Narrating) "Natasha made her living off her looks. In the end, she wound up dying for them."

WAY TO DIE #892

GORGEOUS GORGE

Return to the Sharuby couple in their office.

Ruby: "Well I'm pretty sure that death just ruined my appetite. At least for now."

Shannon: "Agreed. My turn to narrate next."

Ruby closes the file and marks it before wheeling over to get the next one.
