Author's note: Welcome back, dear reader, to another of my random ideas that I don't know what else to do with.
Ever just have an idea that will not leave you alone?
Green eyes met red and Harry stared into the eyes of a mad man. The same eyes that had stared at his father, his mother, and numerous others as they faced their last moments.
"I have you now, Potter. I have two of the three Hallows. I am in the presence of death. I will kill you and take that cloak then I will be its master."
Harry looked around the room. Like I was dumb enough to bring the real one. He tried not to think about how many homes he'd broken into to find the fake he had stuffed in his pocket. Hope Hermione did what I asked her to do and took that thing to Antarctica.
"Yeah, death everywhere, including that gate where my godfather died. How is Bella?"
"A torso. I plan to give her limbs back after I kill you." The tone was clearly furious.
"Yeah, burning Malfoy Manor down after our escape was a necessity. Tell her when you see her again that I did it for Dobby and Hermione. An elf and a muggleborn cost her both her arms and legs…I enjoyed it, though."
The Dark Lord howled in rage, hurling Killing Curses at him. He dodged and wove through the spell fire, peppering back with varying degrees of attack magics, anything to force the wizard to move. He wanted to see if he could shove him through the Arch. Worth a shot, anyway.
The room hummed with the power being hurled back and forth. Harry noticed that Riddle was slowing down, surprised. "What is this?"
The hissed voice came as Riddle's wand dropped to one side. Harry debated casting himself, then noted a black light spewing from the Arch. An old man stepped out, eying the pair of them. He spoke a word, the staff in his hand crackling with energy. That same bold of energy erupted forward and struck Riddle in the chest.
Harry couldn't determine where the screaming was coming from at first, then realized it was three voices. His own, Riddles and a third that was coming from his scar. He was on his knees, unsure how he ended up there and rose slowly, hearing the other voices fade after his own did. He touched his forehead, feeling blood coat his fingers.
The old man glanced at him, then spoke again. White light poured over him this time and Harry felt a warmth over his forehead. "Thank you," he said, pulling a communication mirror from his pocket and simply looking at the unmarred skin there.
The old man slowly nodded. "Hello. I am here to help."
"Who are you?"
"I am Myrddin Ambrosius. I have come because my people need me. It is time to heal the rift in the wizarding world. I have been watching and waiting, sorrowed by what many of you have done with the gifts you were given."
The name stirred something in his memory and Harry rolled it around for a moment before speaking "Merlin?"
"I believe that is what I am known as now."
Harry nodded slowly, then walked over, lifting both the stone and the wand from the remains of Voldemort. "Great. I'm done. No more. No more prophecy or anything else. I'm done."
A/N: So…there was a game that came out in 2011 called Conduit 2. I've never played it. I did come across the title and information about it in an article about games with strange endings. The game is an FPS with elements of science fiction, conspiracy theory, myth and basically flip through three episodes of Ancient Aliens and pick random topics. I get a huge kick out of these things so the story somewhat appealed to me, though I never got around to digging it up.
Now, bearing in mind that this is a 14-year-old game at this point, I won't necessarily say it's a spoiler, but it ends with an animation of a portal opening up and George Washington and Abraham Lincoln appear in power armor. I had to watch the clip twice, so I get how wild this is.
I recently came across this again and wondered what I would do in the main character's situation. Admittedly not knowing the story, I felt this might be my "Okay, that's it, I've had enough" point. That and my rereading another work that I seem to recall Merlin comes back to act again on a threat to the wizarding public, I decided to borrow from the two.
Yes, it was odd, but it was either this little plot bunny or Dumbledore appearing next to Lily via whatever means, taking Harry and throwing him at Voldemort like a grenade, so you go the one I could sort a bit of text to. I will admit, though, the image of Voldemort stopping, looking down at the now shrieking baby, then back at Dumbledore and joining forces with a now enraged Lily to take Dumbledore apart could have been fun.
Thanks for reading.
