Chapter 3: The Temple of Time

Ash pushed past the thick vines and twisted roots, deeper into the untouched heart of Viridian Forest. Celebi hovered just ahead, its glow lighting the way in the growing darkness. Pikachu stayed close, its fur bristling, eyes darting through the trees at every sound.

Unlike the usual parts of the forest where Caterpie and Pidgey fluttered peacefully, this part of the forest felt ancient—untamed and lost to time. The trees were taller here, their trunks thicker, as if they had been growing for thousands of years. The air was heavy, each breath filled with the scent of moss, wet leaves, and something older… something unnatural.

"This forest… it's like it doesn't belong in our world anymore," Ash muttered, brushing aside a hanging vine.

"That is because this place exists between time and space," Celebi responded in his mind. "The Temple of Time rests here. It was built by those who understood the flow of time… long before even the first Poké Balls were made."

Ash raised his eyebrows. "People built the temple?"

Celebi nodded solemnly. "Long ago, before modern civilization, there were those who revered Pokémon like Dialga and Palkia as divine beings. They created temples to keep balance between dimensions, and the Temple of Time was their greatest gift—and final warning."

Pikachu chirped, tapping Ash's leg. A few feet ahead, the trees opened up into a massive clearing.

Ash stepped forward—and gasped.

At the center stood a colossal stone structure, its shape like a broken sundial fused with a tower spiraling into the sky. Faint blue runes pulsed across its surface. Overgrown vines tried to reclaim it, but the stone resisted time's touch. The aura surrounding the temple made the air shimmer, like looking through a heatwave. Time itself felt fragile here.

Ash placed a hand on the stone gate at the temple's entrance. It felt cold—like touching frozen time.

As he stepped inside, the temperature dropped. The hallway was dimly lit by glowing crystals embedded in the walls. The symbols on the walls shimmered in ancient script.

"This place still holds the original energy of time. Be careful," Celebi warned.

Ash moved slowly. Each step echoed with strange delay—sometimes before his foot hit the ground, sometimes after. Pikachu's squeaks distorted slightly, sounding as though they echoed both forward and backward.

Suddenly, a voice echoed around them, deep and emotionless.

"Why have you come?"

Ash froze. A shimmering figure appeared ahead, cloaked in blue robes that seemed to shift like water. Its face was hidden, but glowing eyes stared directly at him.

"I'm here to help Dialga," Ash said firmly. "Something is wrong. Time is breaking apart. Celebi brought me here to fix it."

The figure didn't move. "You are Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town. Chosen by Celebi. Bearer of the Bond with Pikachu. But the test of Time must still be taken."

Ash exchanged a look with Pikachu. "Test?"

Before he could react, the world spun. The temple floor vanished beneath his feet. He fell through darkness—falling, spinning, with visions flashing around him. Pikachu clung to his shoulder.

He landed hard—but not in the temple.

He was standing on a battlefield. The sky was dark. Buildings burned in the distance. It was a place he'd seen before… in his dreams.

"Is this… the future?" Ash whispered.

Screams echoed. He turned and saw people running from giant, corrupted Pokémon—shimmering shadows with glowing red eyes. Among them were Pokémon he knew: a twisted Charizard breathing dark fire, a mutated Tyranitar cloaked in black mist.

Then he saw himself—older, stronger, and… alone. Battling those corrupted Pokémon with every ounce of strength. But even that version of him was struggling.

"I'm… watching the future?" Ash asked, his voice trembling.

"Not just watching," the mysterious voice returned. "You are part of it."

Suddenly, the vision shifted. He stood in Professor Oak's lab—but it was different. Empty. Dust-covered. No lights. He walked through it, calling names. Nobody answered. Every photo on the wall was faded, cracked. His old memories were breaking apart.

Then he heard laughter.

Turning sharply, he saw… himself. A twisted version of himself—dark clothes, glowing red eyes. "You think time can be saved?" it sneered. "You think Dialga will listen? You're just a boy with a mouse."

Ash's heart pounded. "You're not me."

"I'm the version of you that failed," the doppelganger said. "The one who gave up. The one who stood by while time broke."

Suddenly, Ash was thrust into battle—his corrupted self summoned a monstrous shadow Pikachu, larger and more powerful, crackling with black electricity.

Ash gritted his teeth. "Pikachu! Let's show him what real bonds look like!"

"Pika!!"

The battle began. Ash's Pikachu dodged bolts of dark lightning, countered with Thunderbolt, and launched an Iron Tail that sent the shadow flying. But the shadow Pikachu got up, stronger than ever.

The corrupted Ash pointed at them. "You can't fight time! You can't stop what's coming!"

"Maybe not," Ash said, panting, "but I can try. That's what being a Pokémon Trainer is about. Fighting for your friends. Even against fate."

As he said it, the world shattered like glass—and Ash woke up back in the temple. Celebi hovered above him, glowing faintly.

"You passed the first trial," Celebi said. "You faced the echoes of what could be—and chose to resist."

Ash sat up, rubbing his head. "That… was intense."

"More awaits," Celebi said. "The final chamber is near."

They walked deeper into the temple, reaching a giant chamber where time crystals floated in midair, each one containing moments from across the past, present, and future. Ash saw himself getting his first badge, hugging his mother, losing to Tobias, becoming World Champion. He saw events yet to come—friends he hadn't met, places he hadn't traveled.

And in the center of the room… Dialga.

But it was not at peace.

It was suspended in midair, surrounded by chains of glowing red energy. Its body twitched violently, and its roar distorted time around it—flashes of different years pulsed through the room. Ash saw a winter scene turn to spring, then decay into a forgotten era.

"Dialga!" Ash shouted.

The Temporal Pokémon opened one eye, pained and wild. The red chains tightened.

Celebi floated beside Ash. "The Chains of Temporal Corruption… forged by an unknown force from outside our world. They're feeding off Dialga's power and distorting time."

Ash clenched his fists. "We've gotta free it. But how?"

"With your bond," Celebi said. "You've traveled through time before. You've touched the lives of people and Pokémon across eras. That connection is your strength."

Ash stepped forward. Pikachu leapt onto his shoulder.

He focused. Closed his eyes. Reached deep into his memories.

He remembered Charmander shivering in the rain… Butterfree flying into the sunset… Greninja leaping into battle beside him… Pikachu fighting Latios… His mom's smile… Professor Oak's encouragement… every friend, every rival, every Pokémon.

His chest glowed with a faint light.

Pikachu's body shimmered, too.

Then, from behind, came voices.

First, Misty's.

"Ash! You've got this! Don't give up!"

Then Brock's.

"You've always been the guy who pulls through, Ash. Let's show time what we're made of!"

Then Goh, Serena, Iris, May, Dawn… all the voices of his past adventures, echoing across time.

Ash lifted his hand. The light surged from him and Pikachu, forming a beam that struck the chains.

They cracked.

Dialga roared.

Ash poured everything he had into that final moment—the friendships, the battles, the memories.

With a blinding flash, the chains shattered. Dialga collapsed, breathing heavily, but its eyes cleared. The temporal storm around them faded.

Time was stabilizing.

Celebi looked up. "You did it… Time is flowing again."

Ash looked at Dialga. "You okay now?"

The mighty Pokémon nodded slowly, its energy pulsing softly. It spoke to him—not with words, but with a vision of thanks. A moment of peace.

Then, slowly, it faded back into its dimension, restored and balanced.

Ash collapsed to his knees, exhausted. Pikachu nuzzled against him.

Celebi floated down beside him. "You've done more than just save time. You've proven that even against forces beyond control, a Trainer's heart can bring light."

Ash smiled faintly. "Guess I'll need a long nap after this one."

Celebi giggled softly, then vanished in a swirl of green.

Ash stood slowly. The temple began to fade around him.

He found himself back in the Viridian Forest clearing.

The sky was clear now. The strange glow gone. Time—normal again.

Ash looked at Pikachu. "Let's go home, buddy."

"Pika pika!"

As they walked back toward Pallet Town, Ash didn't realize that something—someone—had been watching from another realm. A figure cloaked in shadow, observing through a crack in time.

"…So, the Champion has interfered," the figure said.

A dark eye opened behind the shadow.

"Interesting. Let's see what happens when the balance tips again…"

To be continued.
