One of the most beloved sights of nature in Paldea is that of Clodsire crossing the swamp, carrying Wooper and occasionally other travelers on their back. These pokemon are not just a pastoral scene, however, but an important mode of transportation. Riverboats have never caught on in Paldea the way they have elsewhere, and after a few collisions with these pokemon (which, admittedly, damaged the passengers more than the Clodsire) it was easy to convince the kings to ban them in order to protect the environment. Hiring a Clodsire ferry remains the only way to reach some remote island villages, and is recommended for many others, as much for the experience as for the price.

Clodsire ferried their young long before they learned to ferry other pokemon, let alone humans, and their protective instincts extend to any living things upon their back. Clodsire are the single largest pokemon in freshwater environments in Paldea, and are determined to guarantee their passengers a safe journey. Their spikes not only serve as guardrails, should someone begin to slip, but protection from leaping predators such as Basculin, or avian ones such as Squawkabilly, both of whom hope to nab a passenger before escaping from this slow and lumbering pokemon. As Squawkabilly are also the region's preferred means of aerial transport, this can make for awkward transfers; it is strongly recommended to wait until the Clodsire has departed before attempting to hail a sky taxi.

Although Clodsire rides down the Mesagoza Moat are today associated with the Paldean League's closing ceremonies, this is a custom of surprisingly recent vintage – the result of an extremely popular recent champion (and, as of this writing, Elite Four member) opting to celebrate atop her ace pokemon, and other winners, without Clodsires of their own, choosing to follow her lead.
