To say that I was shocked was a bit of an understatement. Not only was I in the Pokemon world, but I was also a girl! To be honest, I didn't know what was more shocking. It was probably being a girl because I at least understood the Pokemon world. I looked at my body. If I had to guess, I would say that I wasn't even finished with puberty. Come to think of it, I probably should have noticed that I was shorter, my hair was long or the fact that I had breasts sooner, but I was too surprised with being here to realize it.
"Sorry, mama." I told her. It was then that I realized that I had an accent. I supposed we were in what was supposed to be Spain, so it wasn't that much of a stretch. Did that also mean that we would be speaking some Spanish? At that point, the doorbell rang.
"Can you get the door, Mija?" She asked. I was pretty that meant my daughter. However, before I could, a white-haired man walked in. That was a bit odd, but maybe it was prevent you from dawdling too much.
"Hola, pardon my intrusion." He declared before he looked at me. "Are you Lucia Martinez? On behalf of the academy, I must apologize for the late arrival of your enrollment documents and also for me being late in introducing myself. I am the director of Naranja Academy, but you may call me Senor Clavell."
"The director?" The woman asked. "You came in person to help my daughter on her first day?"
She was acting like she was a little bit lovestruck. I knew that they were quite a few hot professors, but I didn't really think of him as one of them. I supposed he kind of was…in a distinguished old man kind of way…and if you like accents. I needed to stop thinking about that though.
"Well I am the director of the academy and any failures that come with it." He remarked. What was he trying to say? I didn't think that the game would call me a failure. "So here at least are the enrollment documents that should have already been delivered to you."
He then presented me with a bag…why not just put them in an envelope? I started to look them over and they basically said that Lucia Martinez was enrolled. So it seemed like I just had a Spanish version of my name.
"You didn't need to come all this way." Mrs. Martinez replied. "Since you're here, can I interest you in some coffee?"
"You don't need to go to all of that trouble." Clavell responded.
"Lucia, the director and I need to discuss some things. Why don't you go upstairs and finish getting ready?" She suggested. Was she shooing her kid away because she wanted to flirt with this man some more? Did she not think that he could possibly be married? Actually most of the professors except Kukui seemed to be single…but I was pretty sure he was not the professor.
"Now Senor Clavell please join me for a cup."
"Well if you insist." He declared. That was really awkward. I supposed that this was going to be another game where the main character didn't have a dad.
I went back upstairs and grabbed my bag. I couldn't help but wonder when I was supposed to get my starter. I always wondered why they didn't just let you have that from the beginning. Was there going to be some sort of catching tutorial in this game. It was a little repetitive, but I understood that it may be helpful to new players. Come to think of it, I hoped that I would be able to throw a pokeball well. I was never good at throwing things before.
After I was wearing my bag, I headed downstairs.
"Oh look at how beautiful you look." She stated as I blushed. I was kind of scared of all of this. I didn't know if I would face any sort of problems from being a girl in this game. I imagined that it would be more expansive than the game. "You're all ready for your big first day."
"Yes, you are very pretty." Clavell added. He probably didn't need to say that. "I also have something else for you Senorita Martinez, but your living room is hardly the place for it. Would you care to follow me outside?"
It seemed like now I was going to get my starter. Hmm I kind of thought that it would take longer. Of course, I might still have to do something else before I got the starter because I hadn't seen anyone play the opening of this game. You know not knowing about this stuff when you're in the game was a lot different than not knowing while you're playing.
I then walked outside and one of the first things that I noticed was how beautiful the atmosphere looked. I didn't know if you could find anything like this in the real Spain, but I didn't really care. Everything that I heard was that living in the Pokemon world would be really cool because the scenery was gorgeous and so far that was true, even though I had literally only been outside of my house. I looked around in awe at it.
"Right then, Dear Pokemon, Time to come out of your balls." He remarked. It looked like I was getting my starter now. At that point, he threw the three balls and out came the starters: the grass cat Sprigatito, the water duck Quaxly and the fire crocodile Fuecoco. I pretty much already knew which one I was going to choose. "We provide each student entering the academy with a Pokemon of their own. I'll ask you to choose which of these you would like to have as your partner."
Come to think of it, I couldn't help but wonder what this school cost. Our house didn't look too big, but there was also a lot of stuff in it.
"We have Sprigatito, the grass cat Pokemon." He introduced. It then made some cat noises and rubbed its face. It was adorable. I kind of wished that I could just tell him that I wanted it without him introducing the others. "There's also Fuecoco, the fire croc Pokemon, and Quaxly, the duckling Pokemon. They're all very good company, but they usually refuse to even leave my side."
All three of them then walked up to me. Okay, they were making it a little hard to choose.
"Hola." I greeted them.
"What's this? Looks like they're more interested in you, Senorita Martinez, than little old me." He said. "I do wish I could stay and see which one you will choose, but I must be off to my next home visit. I'll be at the house just over there. Take your time and come find me once your mind is made up."
He then walked away. Okay…so he just left all three of them with me. What was stopping me from taking all of them?
"He has such good manners." Mom remarked. "All three of them are lovely, but it looks you can only choose one. Maybe you should take an opportunity to get to know each of them. I'm sure they'll have lots to teach you."
I couldn't help but wonder if this was what adopting a pet was like. I really just wanted to pick Sprigatito, but I didn't want to make the other two feel bad.
"Oh and I made you something special to celebrate your big day. Take it with you to celebrate going on your phone." She added. She then handed me a Rotom phone. Did I not have a phone before this? I was pretty sure most people got their first phones before they were 14. "You'll need a map and a way to call me while you're away."
I was pretty good with technology, so I would probably be able to figure it out very quickly. I would definitely have to play around with it a little once I had some free time.
"I guess let's go for a walk." I told the three of them.
All three of them started to follow behind me. I could also feel the wind on my legs for the first time and it made my skirt blow around a little bit. I didn't want to run because I was afraid of falling over. There weren't that many people around, but I didn't want anyone to see me if I fell over. I decided to see if I could figure out how to use the phone. I found a map app, but no Pokedex. I imagined that I would be getting that later. There was also an app for some sort of flying taxi. It looked like they had like an Uber service, but it could only take me places that I had registered on the already. Was it supposed to be free? Maybe it came as part of my tuition or something?
I then saw a sign that was in Spanish, but I was pretty sure that I could read it. It was just the name of the town. There were a few people that seemed friendly, but really didn't provide anything useful. I was pretty sure that they were just NPCs. I decided that the best thing to do would be to go to the house and see who lived there. It was a lot bigger than mine.
I walked into the gate with the three Pokemon. At that point, I turned my back…and they were gone. It was then that I saw the three of them seemed to be spread out throughout the yard. Well I supposed that it was a good thing that they hadn't run off. Quaxly was in the pond, Sprigatito was in the grass smelling some flowers and Fuecoco was…lighting an orange on fire. You know fire types seemed like they could be really dangerous if they weren't properly trained. I was pretty sure that I didn't want it now, even though I had liked several fire starters in the past.
At that point, I saw another girl and it was the one that I had seen from the trailer. She looked like she was taller than, but I supposed she was older. She was also really pretty. She looked like someone that I had seen before, but I couldn't place it.
"Are these your Pokemon?" She asked me. Oh. It was Victoria Justice. She had an accent, but it was still obviously her.
"Not quite, only one of these will be her Pokemon." Clavell declared. I couldn't help but wonder why he had gone to see Nemona. "I do wonder which of them she will choose as her first Pokemon."
At that point, Fuecoco tried to eat the burnt orange. Quaxly just gave it a look of disgust and waved it off. Nemona laughed and Clavell coughed a little.
"Buenas, we haven't met yet, have we?" Nemona asked. I couldn't help but wonder how long I lived there because it seemed odd for me to have not met the girl who was right down the road…especially since it seemed to be the only house in the town. Maybe I was rich because their house probably raised the property value.
"I must say that I wasn't expecting to see you quite so soon." Clavell commented. What did he expect me to do? As far as I knew, I didn't have any friends and all I had was the three Pokemon in a place that I had never been to before.
"Hang on, Director, is this who I think it is?" Nemona asked. Who did she think I was?
"Yes, this is Lucia Martinez. She will be attending our academy from now on." Clavell explained. I was seriously wondering how the two of us hadn't met yet.
"So I guess you're the kid who moved up the road." Nemona remarked. Okay, I had just moved there. That must have explained why we didn't know each other. "I've been dying to find out more about you."
She was probably bored because no one else seemed to live around here.
"I'm Nemona." She continued. "Normally, I live in the school dorms, but this is my home. Since we're neighbors, do you wanna be amigas?"
"I guess so." I answered with a blush. I was a little surprised by her forwardness.
"Yay! We're going to be BFFs." She declared.
"Senorita Nemona is the president of our student council and a Champion-ranked trainer in her own right."
"I absolutely love Pokemon battling. We should battle right now." She declared. Um, I hadn't even chosen my Pokemon yet.
"Easy you'll be in the same class, so you'll have plenty of time to battle later." Clavell interrupted. Were we the same age? I was sure that she was older than me.
"We're gonna be neighbors and classmates? Wonderful! And we can battle all we want." Nemona declared. You know she was kind of acting like she had a crush on me.
"Anyway, it is time for to choose, Lucia." He remarked.
"Yes." I declared. I walked over to Sprigatito and picked it up. It purred in my arms.
"Ah she's quite a good choice." Clavell remarked. "This is your first Pokemon, please raise with love and care."
He then gave me the Pokeball. I remembered seeing that you could take one Pokemon out of its ball to walk with you. I really liked that in Let's Go and was glad that they bought it back.
"You just made a great choice." Nemona declared. "Can I choose one of these Pokemon too?"
If she was a champion, wouldn't she have already chosen one?
"Did you not receive a Pokemon upon entry to the academy, Senorita Nemona?" He asked in surprise.
"No, I already had some Pokemon back then." Nemona answered. "But I want to raise a new Pokemon just like Lucia."
"Well…I suppose you can." He stated.
"I will choose Quaxly." She answered. I still couldn't understand why they decided to give the rival the starter that was weak to yours. Then again, this time it seemed to make sense since she was probably better at battling than I was. "I'll be waiting down at the beach. Please come and join me when you are ready."
You know it kind of sounded like she was asking me on a date. She then ran off towards what I assumed was the beach.
"As you may have noticed, Senorita Nemona is a tad fond about battling." He commented. That seemed like an understatement. "But you should join her. It will help you get to know your Pokemon better."
Okay, so I was just supposed to find out where this beach was. I walked around and then realized that it was right behind her house. Okay, I was glad that wasn't too hard. There was a set of stairs and she was just there waiting for me. I did hope that they would act like real people and not be like the Jumanji movies. I walked down to the beach.
"Hey Lucia! Over here!" She called to me. "Let's battle. I think I'll use my new Pokemon. Go, Mr. Pato."
Quaxly came and I sent out Sprigatito. My phone told me the moves that I could use.
"Sprigatito, use Leafage." I commanded. My Pokemon was faster.
"Wow you know your stuff about type matchups!" She beamed. "Quaxly use Water Gun."
I could tell that Sprigatito did not like being wet, but it didn't seem to do more than get her wet.
"Use another Leafage." I replied as Quaxly was knocked out. You know the battle seemed like it was too easy. I couldn't help but wonder if she had let me win.
"You were great." She told me. She may have been trying to help my confidence. I then got a notification that Sprigatito had leveled up. I didn't know anything about her evolutions yet. I had heard a lot of people saying that they hoped it wouldn't be on too legs, but I…didn't care. Those people just needed to get a life. "I can't believe that you won your first battle ever. Let's battle again."
"I think that's enough battling for right now, Nemona." Clavell interrupted. He still had Fuecoco with him.
"Sorry, I got caught up in the excitement." She apologized. "I hope you're not mad at me."
"No, it was fun." I responded.
"Yeah we can battle more later." Nemona remarked.
"It seems like you two are going to be good friends." Clavell stated. Was he shipping the two of us? "Nemona, can you show your new classmate how to get to school? Not to mention, you could be an excellent battle tutor."
"I'd love to." Nemona agreed.
"That reminds me. Let me download the Pokedex app on your phone." He declared. "The Pokedex will automatically register any Pokemon you catch. It was made by your homeroom teacher Senor Jacq."
Why did he have a French name? Wasn't he supposed to be Spanish? Or was he from Kalos?
"It's probably much better than when you had to do it by hand, Director." Nemona teased. "Anyway, you should come inside my house."
I went into the house and saw that she too had a pet squirrel, but hers was a Pachirisu. Her squirrel seemed to be fancier than mine. At that point, I received a text from my mom.
"Mija, can you please come home before you leave for school? There is something that I forgot to give you." It read.
So I went home. I was pretty sure that she also wanted to see what kind of Pokemon I had chosen. However, before I got home, I saw that Nemona was outside talking to my mom. I couldn't help but feel a little bit awkward because it seemed like she liked me.
"Hello, Mija. I hear that Nemona will be taking you to school." She declared.
"That's right, Senora, leave your daughter to me." Nemona responded.
"I'm glad that you have already managed to make a new friend." Mom declared. "It looks like you're set to have a great school life. Since you'll be staying in the school dorms, make sure that you have some proper meals, okay?"
"Okay, Mama." I agreed. I didn't know what kind of food they served. I think it was the only second game where you could eat. I was starting to feel kind of hungry to be honest.
"I went and got you some spending money and also some lunch for the day." She stated as she gave me some money and also a sandwich. "Now you two have a good first day of school."
She then walked back to our house.
"Your mother is so pretty and so nice too." Nemona replied. "Ooh come on. I wanna teach you how to catch a Pokemon. Vamanos."
I headed out to the first route. It was now that I was going to learn if I could catch a Pokemon. When I got there, I found Nemona and I saw a few different Pokemon too. There was Lechonk, the pig from the trailers, some ball of thread thing, and Fletchling.
"There are two ways to catch Pokemon. You can either throw a ball at it or you can battle it." She responded. "But you'll need some Pokeballs. Here take some."
She then handed me five Pokeballs.
"There's one. Come on. Go catch it." She remarked as a Fletchling flew over to me.
"Okay." I remarked as I threw a Pokeball as hard as I could. The ball shook a few times before it clicked and I got a notification on my Pokedex that Fletchling had been caught.
"That was amazing! You caught the first Pokemon that you saw." She responded. I was a little bit…disturbed by how she kept showering me with praise. "I'm not very good at catching Pokemon. Maybe you should have been teaching me. Anyway, here's more Pokeballs. You don't want to run out when you see a really nice Pokemon."
That was probably a good idea just in case I saw a random shiny pop up. Hopefully I would be able to catch it.
"Gracias." I told her.
"Let's meet up at that lighthouse. You can see our school from the top." She suggested. Again, that sounded kind of like a date.
I started to walk around before I heard some noise. I ran towards a cliff and that was when I saw it. Two Houndours were hassling Koraidon.
So Lucia got to meet Nemona and Clavell in this chapter and she also got to choose her first starter which was Sprigatito. In the next chapter, she gets to meet Koraidon for the first time. Please don't forget to review.
