Chapter Five - Woodbury
The Governor's POV
I love looking at her. She is beautiful. Her blue-green eyes looked at me sweetly, framed by her blonde, curly hair.
"Welcome to Woodbury," I said proudly, showing my town.
"I will admit it is impressive. Seeing a community that is completely safe. I can see why people would stay here," she says softly, pushing her blonde hair behind her ear.
"I told you that you would come around. I know Amy has moved into her own apartment and is adjusting well. My second-in-command,Martinez has been looking after her," I said, taking her hand again.
We walked the streets. Townspeople greeted me. I introduced them to Andrea, my new girlfriend. She greeted everyone, learning their names. She's good with people. Perhaps she worked in human resources before everything happened.
Would it be alright if my sister and I shared the apartment? She asked publicly.
She really needed to learn to be more careful about what she asked me, I thought, frustrated.
"I need to keep you with me. Make sure you are safe. Especially since you are carrying my baby," I whispered.
"Not your baby," she says as we walk into a shop in town. IOur conversation in the store was interrupted by Haley; this was a stroke of luck for Andrea, as I was on the verge of anger.
"Who is your new friend?" she says politely.
"This is Andrea Harrison. She is here to get some new clothes," I said, wrapping my arms around her again.
"Perfect," said the twenty-year-old. "I'll find some maternity clothes that fit her and put them in a bag." Haley rushed to gather clothes. I'd already gotten her a few things, but I wanted more comfortable options. She gave Andrea the bag. We left the store. We'd walked less than a mile. But Andrea looked tired already.
"We should get you back to the apartment," I said as we left the store.
"Could I go see Amy before we head back to the apartment?" she asks, almost begging.
"Sorry, need to work for privileges. Once you do something to make me happy, I'll do you a favor in return," I said firmly.
"I haven't seen Amy in two days. I need to see how she's doing—I am her older sister," she says, taking my hand.
"I promise you will see your sister soon. Maybe even tomorrow. But you need to rest now. Let's go back to the apartment. You can lay down and I'll cook you a healthy dinner," I answered her.
Although frustrated, she accepts her situation. She walks back with me to the apartment and I lock her inside. She puts down the bag of clothes, removes her black tennis shoes, and lays down on the bed. I get on the bed beside Andrea and put my hand on her tummy. The baby is kicking so fast.
"She knows her daddy is here," I tell Andrea softly.
"I told you Shane is her father," she corrects me.
"Shane couldn't protect you. Forget him. I found you in the woods. I saved your life. This baby is mine. God sent me this baby. I needed another child after Penny died. No one replaces her, but this baby gives me hope," I said, still feeling the baby kicking harder this time.
"You can't just claim a baby," she retorted.
"I am the Governor. This is my town and I make the rules. If you ever want to see your sister, you will learn to follow my rules. The first one is that you don't talk about Shane being this baby's father again. I am this baby's father now and you will accept this," I tell her.
Tears welled in her eyes. She looked at me. "I'm sorry," she said. "My life has been hell. Things were easier before. I was a lawyer. Amy was in college. Falling in love with Shane wasn't the plan, but you're right. I'll never see Shane again." She laid her head on the pillow.
"You are safe with me, sweetheart. In time, you learn to love me and forget about him. And I have rules for everyone here in Woodbury, but you are special to me. When Martinez and I found you, I knew that you were meant to be mine, just like this baby is mine," I said, wrapping my arms around her.
"I just want to hold my daughter Primrose Elizabeth," Andrea says, almost ignoring me.
"Primrose? What kind of name is that?" I said letting her know I didn't like the name.
"Amy and I picked it out while we were out there in the woods. It means new beginnings. We really loved the name," she says, not moving from my arms.
"I just think the name Charlotte Elizabeth sounds prettier. Don't you like it?" I asked, waiting for her to answer.
"Yes, I suppose it's a really pretty name too," she says, looking into my eyes.
I sensed she was trying to please me. So I reached over and kissed her lips. She softly kisses me back. I feel pleased how quickly she is coming around.
"So if the baby is a girl, we will name her Charlotte, which is my favorite aunt's name," I tell her, waiting to see her answer.
"Yes, if that is what you want. I mean, she is your daughter," she says finally.
"That is the right answer,Andrea. I am going to make us dinner and then we can get ready for bed. Keep up this behavior will bring your sister over to visit," I promised her.
"You really don't like the name Primrose? Amy and I thought it was such a pretty and unique name," Andrea says, her hand on her stomach.
I didn't like the name, but it was more about controlling Andrea. Testing the waters on how agreeable she could be.
"I don't. But I think the name Charlotte will grow on you. We probably should think of a boy name in case," I said, turning on the oven. I decided to make pasta from the supplies we found on our last run. Would be a quick, easy meal at least.
""I really like John Alexander," she said, getting up from the bed to join me at the table.
"That is the perfect boy name. John is my middle name," I said, putting a plate in front of her.
"What is your first name? Would definitely like to call you something less formal than the Governor all the time," she said before taking a bite of her pasta.
"I'll never tell," I said, smiling at her.
"Never say never," she answers, then returns to eating her food. I knew her body was relieved to get the food she actually needed for our baby.
"Never," I responded.
"I enjoyed dinner, thank you. I'm putting on my pajamas and going to bed," she said, finishing her plate.
"Sleep sweet Andrea. I have a few things to take care of in Woodbury, but then I'll come back to hold you," I promised her.
"Goodnight," she says getting up.
"Andrea, remember there are rules here in Woodbury. One rule for you is to never leave this apartment without me. I lock it from the inside and I am the only one who has a key. I also have someone guarding the apartment while I am gone. So don't go trying to escape because it would be impossible," I warned her.
"I won't," she reassured me.
"Good. You are my princess and I have to keep you locked up in my tower for safety. Now come give me a kiss goodnight," I told her.
"I am really tired," she yawns.
"Andrea, kiss me goodnight," I demanded. She finally walks over, closing her eyes and kisses me slowly on the lips unwillingly. With a slow withdrawal, I smile and proceed to lock her inside the apartment.
I resolved to never let her go.
