AN: A fun play I always wanted to do, and no, this isn't a redo of Life and Death as I never actually read the thing, only Midnight Sun. In this fic, Bella's counterpart has a little more seasoning, is less apathetic, and has more internal monologues, while Edward's counterpart is more impulsive and even more possessive, if possible. Not all the characters will be gender swapped, just the ones that make sense and are fun. Also, gifts are stronger, as I always imagined they should be. This is goth romance with a love triangle for NA readers, with a hint of spice and minor depictions of physical and emotional violence.

Prologue: The Visitor.

I never really thought about how I'd die, but dying at the hands of a psycho, egomaniac, gorgeous vampire was not my first guess. She smiled tenderly as she advanced to end my life, and I felt the rush of adrenaline pushing me upward, making me feel nothing but warmth spreading throughout my entire body. I never really understood how people could just lose themselves in a moment of fury and do things they would never even attempt to do, but right now, seeing the unkillable monster in front of me, living my last moments in this world, I finally got it. She followed me with her gaze when I got up, my leg still bleeding, and her smile grew.

"What a waste." I could barely hear her amused voice.

"Fuck it." That was all I could say at that moment, before I walked towards my imminent death.

Chapter One - Beauregard Swan.

"Baby, you know there's no need for this! I love having you around, and Phil also-"

"I know, this is not because of you two." I lied, and Renée stared at me with wary eyes, making me chuckle.

"Fine, not entirely because of you two. C'mon, mom, we both know that Phil's contract will have him traveling around the country for the entire year, and we both know that you'd love going with him."

"But-"

"But nothing, I'll spend some time with Charlie and finish school, it will be fine."

She opened her mouth to discuss it further, but stopped, and I knew they had already talked about this, but that didn't bother me. They deserved their privacy, and it was about time for me to crawl from under her wings, and it was a crawl because all the times I tried this before, she made sure to swoop me right back under it. One could argue that Renée was dependent on me, and that was true to a certain degree, but in reality, it was the other way around. I could only be the adult because I constantly had her around me behaving like a child, otherwise, I might as well have started behaving as the teenager that I am, although I think it would be completely improbable by now.

And a few days later, I was saying my goodbyes at the airport.

"Beau, call me as soon as you land, you hear me?"

"I know."

"And call me if anything happens."

"I know."

"And if Charlie-"

"Mom, breathe." I smiled while holding her shoulders and saw her eyes watering.

"I'm not dying, and neither are you. This is just a vacation for both of us, so go ahead and have fun with Phil."

She hugged me and almost broke my ribs, and I saw Phil also coming for a hug after she released me.

"Thanks, kid." He whispered in my ear and tapped my back.

"Take care of her, all right? Don't let her eat weird stuff, and make sure to watch her when she crosses the street, she has terrible eyes-to-leg coordination. Also-" I started, already predicting her reaction.

"Whoa whoa whoa, what am I? A toddler?"

We both looked at her and smirked, and she sent us a death stare.

"You know what, I think the sadness is gone, you can go ahead and leave, you little shit."

"Love you, mom. See you around, Phil." I said and left, hearing her voice one last time.

"I love you too."

The trip to Forks was nice and quiet, and I took the time to finish a book I had started a few days ago, and when I arrived, I smiled at the scenery. Forks was odd, but it had a sense of beauty around it. It was like those cities you see in Christmas commercials. The cold was also a pleasant change from the constant heat I was used to back in Phoenix. The thing I'd soon learn about the cold is that it was not that unpleasant once you had a way to warm yourself up.

I started a light novel while waiting for my ride, but I couldn't make it out of the first chapter when I saw a shadow from the corner of my eye and looked up to see Charlie, eyeing me with a smile.

"Hey, Charlie." I said while getting up, and his smile died down a little.

"Hey, kiddo- Look at you, you're all grown up. What the hell is Renée feeding you?" He walked closer but didn't come to a hug, not that my body language was telling him I wanted one.

"Well, you know how she loves to eat healthy, and I had to tag along."

"How tall are you?" He took one of my bags and we started walking towards the exit. This kind of behaviour was so like us, just two weird introverts incapable of really caring about small talk.

"6'1."

"Well, glad to see that you won the genetics lottery, because my side of the family never surpassed the 5'10 mark."

I smiled, and we walked in silence to his car, and until we reached the house. I looked at it for a few more seconds, trying to remember my time here as a child.

"You coming?"

I just followed him while he showed me the house and my room, telling me where everything was and the changes that he made. After that, he tapped me on the back and went downstairs. It wasn't a surprise that he would give me space. We were very much alike, Charlie and I, but even though he was the person I had more similarities to, I couldn't reach him, the same way he couldn't reach me. The time we spent apart and the scarce contact we had when I was a child created a blockage in my mind that made it impossible for me to feel something for him. He wasn't a complete stranger, but to me, he was some kind of distant relative, a cousin at best, and I was pretty sure his view of me was the same.

After finishing unpacking, I went down to explore the house and found him watching Basketball.

"Who's playing?"

"Huh? Oh, the wizards are playing- well, it's already a blowout."

"Hmm."

I just stood there, trying to think about a way to ask this without being insensitive.

"What's up?" He noticed I wanted something, muting the TV, but his eyes were shifting back and forth to it.

"I meant to ask, it's almost dinnertime, are we ordering takeout? Do you have something in the kitchen? Can you cook?"

"I haven't gone to the grocery store in a few days, but there's money on top of the fridge, and no- I can't cook if my life depends on it. Well, I can make some eggs and bacon and a mean fried fish if you're ever interested." He smiled, and I tried my best to smile back.

I walked to the kitchen and opened the fridge, but there was barely anything, so I looked up and saw a couple of twenties labeled as food money.

"I'm going out to buy a few things."

"Why? Wait, don't tell me you can cook."

I smiled, remembering one of the many activities Renée put me through. Even though she never passed the basics, I was able to go through to the advanced classes, so at least the cooking school wasn't a complete waste.

"I can." I could see relief spreading across his face.

"Hold up for a minute, I'm coming with you."

"Nah, that's ok, you can keep watching the game."

"But you're gonna need a ride."

"I'll walk, don't worry about it."

"You know it's freezing cold, right?"

"I'm counting on it, time to test my limits." I said while grabbing my jacket from the hanger and leaving.

It was indeed very cold, and the light rain made it even colder, but apart from my eyes, I was protected, wearing my hood and a mask that Renée insisted on me having. For the cold, she said.

I took my time after searching on my cellphone for the nearest grocery shop, taking in the layout of the streets that I once walked. It all had that strange feeling of being too small.

'Rather than being small, it's you who's bigger now.'

I walked into the grocery store and started shopping. It wasn't big, but it had everything I needed. I tossed a couple of bills of my own to grab a few more spices and meats, and was about to change corridors when someone turned in a rush and literally bumped their head into my chest, almost falling backwards.

"Ow- Sorry! Sorry!" It was a small girl, with blond hair and green eyes, holding a jar of mayonnaise.

"That's ok." I answered, and she kept looking at me. "You ok?" I asked, concerned.

"Ah- yeah, I'm fine!' She said with a smile, and I nodded back and walked by her, but before I could return to my shopping, she called.

"Never seen you before... you're not from here, are you?"

I frowned before turning to her.

"Just moved in."

"Well, welcome to Forks. I'm Jessica, by the way." She offered a hand, and I shook on it.

"Beau."

She kept smiling and looking at me, so I took the opportunity to escape.

"Well, it was nice to meet you, Jessica." I turned and left before she could say anything she wanted to say, judging by her eyes and the way she was biting her lower lip.

I wasn't unaware of the fact that I was a little attractive. I took after Renée and Charlie's good features, and by jumping between swimming, work-outs, taekwondo, judo, tennis, and many other activities Renée proposed, or rather demanded I attend, I actually had a decent build. I just didn't care about dating at all.

When I caught myself wondering how it would feel to date someone, I'd always tell myself how annoying and tiresome it would be. The sex was probably nice, not that I had done it, because the thought of the fluids exchange and how it would smell made me uncomfortable to even consider it. In my opinion, sex would be disgusting, and even though I could understand that the pleasure of it would overcome the disgusting part, almost like a primal instinct, I could never turn my rational mind off, so it wouldn't work for me. I could visualize things so well, that more than once I visualized how something would taste or feel and was perfectly accurate when it happened, so even though I never had sex or even the experience of making out with someone, I could visualize and emulate every sensation I would have, and because of that, I never really done it. If you're wondering, how can I never even try anything, well, you can't crave what you never had, right? Maybe there is something wrong with my head, that wouldn't be a surprise.

Once I got back, I found out another thing about Forks. Socks get wet.

"You should've let me drive you." Charlie said with a smile when he saw me looking at my feet.

"Yeah, I'll remember that next time."

"I'm about to finish a deal on a car for you. Billy is coming tomorrow with it for us to take a look."

"What? What do you mean finish a deal?"

"I'll buy it for you, I mean, you're gonna need a way to move around and I can't let you borrow the cruiser."

I nodded, a little baffled about the precept of him giving me a car, but judging by what Renée told me about Charlie's tastes, I wasn't so sure about it.

"I don't want to sound like an asshole, but how much are you spending?"

"Huh? Why?"

"Just tell me."

"Er... around 4 grand."

"Right, and again, I don't want to be an asshole, but what kind of car can you buy with four grand around here?"

His face lost a little of its color, and I nodded.

"I just don't wanna be popping in and out of an auto shop, I don't have to money to, so would you mind allowing me to pick a car? I have some money that Renée has been saving for me for some time now, so I can toss a couple of thousand and get a nice ride."

"Why don't you see what Billy brings us tomorrow first?"

"All right, but if I don't like it, will you still help me with the four grand?"

"Absolutely."

"Thanks, I really appreciate it."

I went to the kitchen and thought about what to do with the things I bought, deciding to go with a carbonara for starters. It didn't take long for me to be putting the table.

"What's this?"

"Carbonara."

"Mmm, smells nice."

"Tastes better, c'mon." I pushed the pan forward, and he started serving himself.

The night was calm, and the sound of rain against the windows was soothing, but I wondered if the continuous rain would spoil that feeling of joy that we all feel once the rain starts.

"Ok, this is really good." Charlie said, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Thanks."

"So, are you excited for school?"

I looked at him with a serious gaze, and we both laughed.

"I hope you like it here, kiddo."

"Me too."

And I really did, because I didn't know what I would do if I didn't.

After making omelets for breakfast, Charlie frowned while eating.

"Damn, this is way better than the ones I eat at the dinner."

"I hope so, otherwise I'll hang my spatula."

"As much as I already love your food, you know you don't have to cook all meals, right?"

"What? You have some cooking abilities that you're hiding from me?" I smirked at him, and he shook his head.

"I just don't want to overload you."

"Relax, cooking is like a second nature to me, I also cooked back at Phoenix, well, I didn't have much of a choice, you do remember mom's cooking, don't you?"

He shivered while remembering and nodded his head.

"Fine, but let me know when you're tired and we'll order something."

"Deal."

"About school tomorrow-" He was about to ask something when we heard a honk and both turned our heads to the front window.

"Well, they're early." Charlie got up and looked at me expectantly, so I followed him outside. Once we got out, I looked at two cars, one old black truck where an old man was sitting, and a red Chevy- Well, it looked like a tank.

"BILLY!" Charlie shouted with his arms raised, and I frowned. It was unusual of Charlie to be this forward, so I guessed this Billy guy was a good friend of his.

When I was about to ask about the red monster parked in the driveway, I saw someone walking around the truck and locked eyes with a young girl, she was probably fourteen or fifteen, her hair so long that it was almost touching her waistline.

"How are things, Jane? Billy's giving you any trouble these days?" Charlie asked her, and she smiled, a smile so beautiful and full of life and joy that it made me feel a little nervous.

"You know how it is, I have to hide his chair sometimes so he'll stop following me around with his complaints." Her voice was pleasant and a little deep, and her faint accent was really pretty.

"Ha, I'll crawl if I have to." We turned to see that Billy had already left his truck and was wheeling his way to us.

"So, I don't know if you remember-" Charlie turned to me, and I smiled.

"This is my boy, Beauregard."

"Beau." I corrected him immediately, and he chuckled.

"Damn, kid, I remember you being this tall." Billy used his hand to show me the height of his chair, and I walked forward.

"Well, I was young, so I don't remember much, but it's nice to meet you again, sir." I gave him my hand, and he smiled while shaking it.

"Nice grip you got there." He nodded, and I chuckled.

'Blame the how to leave a good first impression seminar that Renée dragged me into.' I thought wildly.

"And this is Jane, I believe you already met before as well." Charlie pointed, and I frowned, trying to remember.

"I don't know, she seems familiar-"

"What, think we all look the same?" She asked seriously, and I froze until she burst into laughter.

"Don't mind her, she has a deranged sense of humor." Billy complained, and she giggled.

"C'mon, let me show you your new ride." She nodded with her head to the car, and I looked at Charlie before going with her. She entered the passenger side, and I took the driver's.

"So, you really don't remember me?" She asked as soon as I got in.

"No, but like I said, you do seem familiar-"

"So you don't remember us making mud pies when we were younger?" She smiled, and it suddenly came back to me.

"I remember that! With... Rachel and Rebecca, your sisters." It suddenly came back to me.

"Yep."

"How are they? Are they here?"

"Nah, Rae left, and Becca is married now."

"Married?" She was my age, if I remember correctly. Jane's face told me she also felt skeptical about that.

"We always thought you'd come back again after that summer."

"Well, my mom kinda kidnapped me from Charlie for a few years."

"Really?"

"Yeah, well, she made some good points about how he wouldn't be able to take care of me while working full time on the force, so he backed off."

"Huh." She looked down, and I looked around the cabin.

"So... is this a full restoration?"

"Yeah, how'd you know?"

"Heh, I kind of know a little about every subject in the world thanks to my mom, so I can just tell."

"Well, it was a piece of shit, but I've been repairing it for almost a year now."

"You did this all by yourself?"

"Yeah."

"Solid work." I pressed the shift and turned the key, just to hear the loud engine burst to life. It was really loud, but it felt ok. I turned the wheel and shifted the gears, noticing how easy it was to move them. I brought it back to Park and looked around the interior, seeing how clean it was, smelling a little of tobacco and alcohol.

"So, did you like it?" She asked with an expectant smile, and I turned the car off, giving her a sad smile back.

"No."

"Wait, what?"

"Don't you have anything... not this?"

"Of course not, I've been working on this piece of shi- on this beauty for a year now, don't back down on me, man, c'mon, I need this."

"Sorry, Jane, this is just not me."

"Oh, fuck off."

I smiled, and she crossed her arms.

"What do you like, then?"

"I don't know, a Chevelle maybe?"

Her annoyed face turned into a shocked one in a heartbeat.

"You're into classics?"

"Well, who isn't?"

"I have a firebird that I'm building from scratch, the money from the truck is going into buying an engine I just found in Port Angeles."

"A firebird? 87?" I asked with my eyebrow raised.

"91."

"Ah, a beauty." I conceded, she had good taste.

"If you're not taking the Chevy, how are you getting to school?"

"I'll ride with Charlie, I guess, and if I can't, I'll just walk."

"You'll get your socks wet."

"Way ahead of you, I don't leave the house without a spare."

She smiled before sighing, looking at the panel.

"Sorry." I whispered, and she nodded.

"Fine, I'll take it to Port Angeles and sell it there."

I nodded and gave her the keys, going out to meet with Charlie and Billy.

"So, what do you think?" Charlie asked with a smile so big that I stopped in my tracks, swallowing the words I was about to say.

"Yea, Beau, what you think? It was really nice of Charlie to buy it for you as your welcome home gift, right, Dad?" Jane said with a devilish smile, tapping on Billy's back, and I gasped, looking at Charlie, who had an embarrassed yet proud expression.

"Damn straight." Billy said.

'Shit.'

"It's nice, it will do, thanks." I said low and looked- well, glared at Jane, who was smiling widely at me before winking and throwing me the keys.
