Invulnerable: Chapter Eleven
The Green and The Red
He stood there in the middle of his room. As he looked in the mirror. A dark blue suit he was wearing with a bright red tie and shiny black shoes. His hair was combed and cut. His bright green eyes briming with power. But, it still didn't feel real.
Live for Me, Live for All of us. The harsh and last words of his ex-girlfriend echoed. What did it mean? What did she mean?
The very questions that have haunted him since Annabeth fell lifeless in his arms in the elevator of the Doors of Death.
"Seaweed Brain, I love you."
He sighed as remnants of his past came back to him,"Annabeth I love you more than anything and I promise I will be stronger to save the ones I love, it will never happen again."
A vow he wasn't sure he could keep anymore. Could he save everyone? Did he have the power to keep everyone alive this time? Was he strong enough? Percy fiddled with the jacket sleeve as he was thinking, contemplating his actions.
It had been over a day since he last saw any of the Grayson's. No word from Mark, Debbie, Nolan, or even Cecil. Something was happening and Percy was becoming more nervous about it.
So, he essentially had the house to himself. He summoned food for himself and relaxed thinking about his actions. The next morning he went to school, his usual routine. With no Mark by his side this time.
Percy saw Amber there and he asked her where Mark was or if she heard from him and she said she didn't. So, he went on with his day. At the end of school he walked outside. At the corner of the school, he saw her. He decided to swallow his pride and walked over to her.
"Hello Eve." Percy said as he watched her turn around books hugged to her chest. And her beautiful bright green eyes looked into his. His heart skipped a beat. Damn she is beautiful.
"Hi Percy." Eve replied.
"I uh wanted to apologize to you." Percy said as he ran his fingers through his hair.
"Apologize for what Percy." She said shyly.
"For making it seem like I was ignoring you, which because I wasn't, I was thinking and have been busy and-" Percy stopped fumbling his words, as she was laughing at him, a beautiful contagious laugh.
"Percy its okay, I am sorry too I have been busy with my parents, work, and Thinking as well." As she gave him a bright smile.
Damn her eyes sparkle. "I uh, forgive you." Percy nervously spluttered out. "How are you, Eve?"
"I forgive you too, I am well Percy, just trying to stay busy and figure out my life." Eve said shrugging.
"Honestly I feel the same, I was just at a college with Mark and it seemed to much for me." Percy stated.
"Oh college huh I have also thought about it and I think its not for me right now. Anyway I haven't seen Mark in awhile is he okay?" She asked as she brushed her hair behind her ear.
"He is okay last I heard I haven't seen him since early yesterday probably with Amber or his work I am unsure, plus I don't own a phone." Percy replied with a look around the grass outside.
Does he know that Mark is a superhero? Or his dad since Percy lives with them surely unless... "Well that is to bad I hope he is okay." As she also stared at where Percy was looking at.
"Eve, I made a deal with Mark and I always keep my word."He said bluntly.
"Oh and what is that?"
"I uh wanted to ask you on a date formally to get to know you better." Percy said nervously, Live for me, Live for all of us.
"Oh" Eve said looking down, after Rex and my slight crush on Mark who is with Amber? And with all that happened with my parents? Maybe all I need is normal after all, I did talk with Amber about him.
Percy watched as she looked down thinking, his heart pounded in his chest, Did I do something wrong? Maybe it is the wrong time or maybe its-
"I would love to go out with you Percy." Eve replied to the tall man.
His heart seemed to burst out of his chest, as he looked down at her and gave her his biggest smile. "That is awesome Eve thank you and I promise you won't forget it, how about tomorrow at noon, lunch at the restaurant by the beach." The beach would calm him he thought it would be best to stay near home.
"It is okay I will meet you there at noon tomorrow." She giggled at the fumbling man.
"Okay then, see you tomorrow and wear something extravagent." As Percy winked at her as he walked back home. I need to work on my Aphrodite skills. He mentally thought as his heart leaped in joy for a date with Eve.
Her heart skipped a beat as she watched him walk confidently away from her. Damn he needs help to ask out a girl. Probably hasn't done it ever? She sighed as her heart beat fast. I need normal. As she went to her usual hidden spot and took off. What am I going to wear?
The Next Day...
She was nervous, very nervous. This would be a proper date for her, even Rex her-ex, didn't take her on dates. She looked into the mirror as she wore a green dress, it had been awhile since she wore one. She thought of matching Percy's eyes. She had a cut down the dress to show her leg. Also, a pair of black heels hidden by the dress. She had a hint of makeup on to make her own eyes stand out more. Her hair was flowing to the side, down her right shoulder. To think I dress so well. As she twirled around and the dress twirled with her.
Eve had taken the better part of the night and morning to find out what she wanted to wear but in the end she found it. She changed her past gold earrings, with diamond ones she smirked as she put them on, why have powers if I don't use them. She grabbed her matching, green and diamond encrusted purse. As she was prepared to meet Percy, the man she had dreamed of since she saw him. What will he think if I show him my powers or who I really am? Will he dump me like my parents or embrace me like the heroes do? She contemplated as she was prepared to fly towards the restaurant at the beach. Maybe its good to be normal. As she jumped off the ledge of her house and took off.
Percy waited, as he had just arrived by teleportation of course, he looked out onto the water, the place that started it all. He looked up into the sky where he fell from. He sighed, a long time coming from gods, Camp, Gaea, and Annabeth, He blinked Now I have a brother, family problems, Aliens, robots, friends. Just like home just a bit different. He looked on passively as he felt the calming presence of his father's domain, No his Domain. The ocean called for him to enter, to fall into her embrace and be lost forever. It was mesmerizing and intoxicating.
How will Eve react to who I really am? will she embrace me like the Ocean? Or cast me aside? Many questions, maybe it was too early to tell as he barely knew her but he had an intoxicating crush or love for Eve, something that was calling to him. Only one person Percy thought could do such a thing Aphrodite, her words from before he came to this world, "For you to find love once again." He rubbed his tattoo where the dove was located.
Could he find it once again after all of his failures would he die alone, forgotton as The Lone Survivor. Live for me, for all of us. Annabeth told him to live and he would as he stared into the blue water of the Ocean.
He heard a shuffle on the beach, as he turned around and his eyes widened in shock as he saw a person in a beautiful green silk embroidered dress with long flowing red hair parted down her right shoulder.
Eve saw him on her way down a lone figure on the beach in a dark blue suit, as she landed she saw he was looking out into the water like he was thinking of something, contemplating. He looked powerful, regal, in his own element. Then he heard her as she came walking onto the beach. He turned around.
She had never seen a man look so beautiful before, the suit fit him perfectly, the tie the same color as her hair, and she looked into his deep sea green eyes, they shined. She was shocked to see the man in front her. He cleans up well, too well.
"Hi Eve." He said and she sensed a bit of nervousness.
"Hi Percy, you look amazing." She spluttered out as she eyed him up up and down, almost biting her lip.
"Thank you And you look absolutely beautiful. I will say I do love the green." He said more confident.
"Thank you Percy." She smiled. He raised out his arm for her to take.
"So, lets go get some food."
She took his well muscled arm as he led her towards a fancy looking restaurant. He's powerful she thought. Percy led them to the host stand.
"Table for two please."
"Right away sir" the host led them to a table set for two. Percy pulled out a chair for her and she quickly blushed at the act as she sat down. Percy then sat in his own chair across from her.
"Tell me Eve, what do you like to do?" Percy asked as he opened up the menu as she kept looking at his beautiful features.
"I like to build things like structures or help the homeless." She replied as she also opened up her menu.
"Oh structures what have you wanted to build?" He asked curiously.
"Well I just recently created a tree house." She said trying not to reveal that she created it with her powers.
"That is awesome I would love to see the tree house you built." As Percy saw the amount of fish available on the menu. He put on a disgusted look on his face.
"What's wrong?" She asked as she saw his face.
"I am not a big fan of fish never liked the stuff." He said frowning.
"But, fish is good, Percy." She always loved fish couldn't get enough.
"Haha None for me thank you I think I will get the steak." Percy said as he snapped his fingers for the waiter.
Chuckling at his antics, "If you say so I will have the same."
A waiter quickly ran over and jotted down their order, "Anything to drink?"
"I think the lovely lady and I will take your finest red wine." Percy said eyeing the waiter.
"Right away sir." As the waiter ran off.
"Percy we are underage we can't drink." Eve said shocked he would order alcohol.
"And that my dear is why I told you to dress extravagant the mortals don't know otherwise." Percy said grinning.
Mortals what a weird term? "Okay I trust you maybe I just need to relax." She said smiling back up at him. "So, what about you, what do you like to do?"
The water came by and sat down two glasses and a fine red wine and poured it into the glasses and left.
Percy grabbed his glass sniffing it and took a drink, "I like to sail, I love the water, I also like to be around friends."
She took her own glass and took a drink as the alcohol went into her belly making her feel warm inside, "Is that why you looked out to the water earlier?" She asked hesitant.
"Yes the Ocean calms me, ever since my Mom brought me too the beach the first time. My mom and I have a special place called Montauk we would go to whenever I was upset or we just went for fun."
She saw his eyes darken and lower when he mentioned his mom, "She sounds amazing."
"She is." He replied.
"My parents I wish were more like your mom. Mine are always on me about what I should do and to think about my future." She said looking down. As Percy grabbed her smaller hand in his rougher larger one. A spark raced through her body that energized her.
He sqeezed her hand, "As parents go, I never knew my dad very well and my mom is always there for me and I would be for her. But, you can do whatever you feel is right."
"Sometimes they just don't understand where I am coming from or they force it down my throat." She said as she felt his thumb rub circles on her knuckles a sense of calm went over her.
"Its okay the amount of times I have argued with my parents is Astronomical, but I love them all the same." Percy said thinking about the horrible loss.
"You're right Percy, maybe I should just talk to them." Eve replied as the alcohol was getting to her.
"That's the spirit Red."
"Red? now that's not very creative." Eve scoffed out.
"It suits you." As he reached over and lightly touched her hair.
She laughed, "Should I call you Green then?"
"You can call me whatever you feel is right." Percy said.
They talked and chatted for what felt like hours, about their lives, how they grew up, their friends, their future. All of this Eve laughed and joked with the beautiful green eyed man, he was a terrific storyteller the way his eyes danced when his friend Grover wore a wedding dress, the way his eyes went down thinking about his stepdad Smelly Gabe. She took it all in but she felt like he was missing some key parts in his story. Like there was more to it, something he didn't want to tell her. But, she had her own secrets as well. She told him how she met Mark and Amber, how she grew up, how she got into architecture not the real reason of course.
Their food came and as they ate they talked and shared memories, fond or otherwise. They both went through the whole bottle she was feeling slightly worse for wear but Percy seemed like he could drink more than one bottle alone, she was jealous. She was drawn into the way his hand moved around as he talked about pranking his friends, how him and Mark met the first time, something about falling.
She felt normal for the first time in a long time. She smiled.
"Come on Red, lets go take a walk." Percy said as he put out his hand as he tossed cash onto the table. She grabbed his hand as they both walked out of the restaurant to a 4:00 pm sun. He could tell she was slightly intoxicated. She leaned on his arm slightly as he walked closer to the beach.
They both looked out into the vast ocean.
"This has been an amazing time, for me especially Red." Percy said as he rested his head on hers.
"I have had a lovely time Green, I still don't understand how you have been on so many adventures and lived through so much." She said as her head was on his shoulder.
"It is a life, I could say the same for you." Percy said.
"Maybe its just getting started." She said, as she looked up at him. Those beautiful green eyes that she got lost in.
"Maybe there are more adventures to be had and I would prefer them to be with you." Percy said as her eyes drew him in.
"I would like that." Eve replied as she went in for a kiss. Their lips about to touch.
A cough was heard from a panting man as they both were an inch from each other they both whipped around to see.
"Cecil?" She said.
"Cecil?" He said.
They both eyed each other.
"How do you-"she said.
"How do you-"he said.
"Hey lovebirds sorry to interrupt." Cecil said catching his breath.
Eve saw Cecil recover as he saw the man disheveled and sweating. His tie was cut off like it was ripped up. His eyes darted between Eve and Percy.
"Why are you here Cecil?" Said Eve as she hung onto Percy's arm as she still didn't know how Percy knew him unless he is a-.
"I do apologize but I need your help." Cecil gruffly stated.
"My help?" Eve asked. "For?"
"Sorry Red, but I think he means me." Percy stated as he looked to the older man.
She was taken aback, his help for what? He is so normal? She stepped away from Percy. "What are you saying, Green?"
Eve saw him sigh and look to her his eyes full of sincerity, "I am sorry Red, but I will tell you all when I return. And I do not mean you harm."
"I understand, Percy. Cecil, what is going on?" Eve asked the older man. She couldn't criticize Percy she would be a hypocrite. I just wanted normal. What is Percy?
The grey haired man brought a hand to his nose, "A dangerous situation something that I never thought would be possible."
"Cecil?" Percy growled out.
"Okay since I trust you both. Mark went after his Dad."
Eve frowned why would he go after his dad? Is his dad hurt? She looked to the blue suit man next to her. He knows something? Something big? What is going on here?
"How does that pertain to me? need me to heal him again?"
Heal him? What? Eve thought, a million thoughts running through her alcohol infused brain.
"No, possibly, I don't know. You are my last resort, Perseus. I tried to stop Nolan." As Cecil grabbed his torn tie. "But, he's the most powerful man on Earth, and nothing I have, can beat him except maybe his son can get through to him."
Perseus? That is his full name? What does Cecil want? Eve thought as she looked at Percy.
"You want me to put him down?" Percy asked fists clenched.
"Put him down but he is a viltrumite and you're, Human?." Eve said as she put her hand on Percy's arm.
He looked down to her, "I will be okay Red, trust me and I will come back to you, I promise."
"But, he's a Viltrumite, how can you beat him? Nothing has ever beaten him." Eve said worry in her eyes.
She watched as Percy stepped stepped towards the water. She saw him reach into his pocket and pull out of all things a pen, a golden pen. She almost laughed if not for the situation. He uncapped the pen and out came a beautiful golden trident. Her brain nearly exploded out of her head.
"With this." Percy said nonchalantly, as the pommel of his trident dug into the sand.
"What are you?" She asked the black-haired man.
"The Lone Survivor."
She saw his eyes glow with power, a green mist almost came out of them, as the water behind him moved roughly like in the middle of a storm.
"Wait for me here Red, I will be back okay and I promise to tell you who I really am."
I will as well she thought, mentally promising herself. "Okay I trust you but please be careful."
He came forward and put his hand on her cheek. She melted into his touch. And saw him look like he wanted to do something. He dropped his hand, he turned towards Cecil.
"Think I can beat him Cecil?" Percy asked.
"I don't know but you are all we got." Cecil said worriedly.
"Okay let's do this."
Eve watched as they both walked to the side.
Cecil said,"shall we use yours or mine?"
"Mine you old man, yours sucks. Where are we heading?"
" A few Miles west of the city."
Percy nodded to Cecil.
Eve looked at the beautiful man, he stared at her back, giving her a grin, how she loved that grin, "Be safe Green, come back to me." Then she saw Percy grab Cecil and they both disappeared in a pillar of water.
What is going on? How can he do that? Who is Percy Jackson? Eve thought as she looked over to the horizon. I can't having anything normal can I?
Elsewhere...
He was flying as fast as he ever had. He was angry at the betrayal, why? Why would he do this?
"Omni-Man!!!!" He screamed to the sky in vengeance. As he came up on a huge green monster, battling Omni Man and a third party in yellow. He raced to engage.
