Hey author here!
First of all, I know I'm late but how was I supposed to know that my internet would go down for an entire week? Apparently, a truck took some cables down, which was probably a lie and it took the company that provided my internet an entire week to fix or forty minutes once they actually found where the problem was. And let me tell you they were a good four hundred meters away from it.
Anyway, the good news is because I had more time to do things or in other words nothing else to do I finished writing the chapter and then wrote some more. The next chapter is halfway done because of it.
Now let's go to the comments for the first time in this fic, shall we?
SentinalSlice, tl34lt12: I think I should have explained this a bit more. Artoria is a year older than Shirou, when Artoria dropped out of Orleans she could have just finished her school year in another school, but because she is entering the hero course at U.A she can't since she didn't have classes in heroism, soo… Shirou is going to be a third year while Artoria is going to be in the first.
Silence of Mind: Thanks for the advice here in Brasil we use the respective word to pretend as both 'pretend' and 'intend' so that went over my mind.
XL1: Thanks I actually love more nerd questions since I'm quite the fan of lore diving and power scaling, sometimes more than the actual show. Unfortunately, I won't answer these questions for two reasons. One, they sometimes turn the comment section on a debate forum and I just don't like the vibes it can bring sometimes, and two that is a spoiler. The only thing I will say is that you are underestimating Artoria a lot, she has a real body out of the constrictions of a servant class, a class card, or an unaging body.
Furthermore, I never said in which department Artoria was rusty.
vinyakdj1: No she won't at least not directly, Shirou is here after all. Funny enough in MHA, ubw is not that important. It's not like Shirou can just skewer people willy-nilly.
Insulted fan: True, I should have fact-checked that. But I think the point got across Artoria is much faster than anybody with the exceptions of the top tiers of MHA.
Sefirei: Thanks, I know that the pacing at the start is a bit slow but I have to set up a lot of things that are going to be important in the future.
For Morgan, Artoria has no hard feelings or reasons to be distrustful, she is not really the same Morgan and nowhere near as powerful or capable as the witch Artoria knew.
About Artoria not caring about hero stuff, she has no reason to, as most people don't. This is not Camelot, not her people, and she has no personal reason to pick up a sword or anything to defend. Furthermore, you overestimate Artoria's mentality about helping people she is nowhere as caring to strangers as people think, while she still cares about innocent lives and will go out of her way to not implicate them, she also does not go out of her way to save them or at least not before completing whatever task she has to do. We have to remember guys she comes from a time when human rights weren't a thing and she doesn't abide by that her common sense is not the same as ours.
That's all of them this time, hope you enjoy the chapter!
*Chapter start*
With the sun well above the horizon line, a skeletal man could not help but sigh aloud. "Few… That's it for today young Midoriya."
All Might's form inflates as his previous skeletal form disappears, while his more well-known muscular form returns, he extends his arms and picks up a boy lying weakly on the beach ground wearing a tank top and gym sweatpants.
While helping the boy gets his body on two feet."Our time's up for today. don't forget to follow the schedule, these last two months are crucial for the development of your body."
"R-Right… I will…" Midoriya responds still a little lightheaded, even though the sun had just risen he had been doing fiscal labor for almost one and a half hours. Just thinking about having to go to school and do the scheduled afternoon exercises makes the boy want to throw up, but despite the pain, the gains are quite clear since in the last six months his body that had no signs of muscle or discipline, now are adorned with respectable well-defined muscles.
"HAHAHAHAHA, WHERE IS YOUR STRENGTH YOUNG MIDORIYA, I CAN BARELY HEAR YOU."
"RIGHT." Despite feeling the lack of oxygen the boy shouts with all his strength, which doesn't amount to much, but still satisfies the man in front of him.
"HAHAHAHAH, That's the spirit, the diligence, and persistence are two important ingredients for success when it comes to building muscle mass you ca-"
Interrupting All Might, a sudden phone notification rang from his private phone, attracting his attention.
"Weird. Who could be sending me messages at this time?" All Might didn't share the number on this phone with a lot of people, and all of the people who had this number weren't the kind to call him regularly, they were all busy people after all.
Seeing the sender of the message, he is pleasantly surprised to see the name of one of his oldest friends. "Humm, I-Expo is approaching, maybe he is inviting me in advance."
"I-Expo?" By his side, Midoriya asks puzzled by All Might's words, while also showing some anticipation, after all for a hero fan like him, knowing about the greatest hero support tech exposition in the world is a given.
"It is nothing probably a friend inviting me to come." All Might says with a shrug as he touches David's name to see what message he sent him. But the contents of the message gave him a much bigger surprise.
Attaching a foreigner's name at the top of the message David then follows with complex descriptions of the person's physical performance, with several links to different videos at the bottom. Suddenly engrossed by what he just read in the descriptions he goes for one of the links titled lifting, completely forgetting Midoriya by his side.
In the video captured in one of the hero research installations at I-Island a blond woman or girl could be seen grabbing to metallic handles above her head connected to the cylinder weight above her, in the ceiling more cylinder-shaped weights are released on top of her as her strength surpasses the limit of the previous weight, in a matter of seconds all the weights are dropped on top of her, but somehow she is still able to hold all of them for several more minutes before releasing them in exhaustion.
"Crazy…" All Might mutters while clicking on the other links. "This lady is exceptional. To think there would be someone else who could also lift those weights that easily."
"Hum… what weighs?" Midoriya mutters by All MIght's side, attentively looking at the phone in his hand displaying the results of the girl's tests.
"This cylindrical machine was made by my friend Dave several years ago, I think I-Island was just founded then, so he could get away with building a lot of useless nonsense." Sensing the boy's curiosity, the blonde hero explains why the girl's feats are impressive. "It was created with the objective of testing the limits of my strength, although it fell short of being able to do so, it was still a good test of endurance. If I remember correctly I was able to hold it over my head for over thirty minutes."
Midoriya looks at All Might with a disbelieving look. He knows better than most that anything that can put a time limit on the hero in front of him is beyond what most heroes could accomplish. Even though the girl could only hold it for a little over ten minutes, the fact that someone is even able to get close to what All Might did is, by itself, a huge feat, maybe even a legendary one.
"I reckon that she could be physically stronger than me right now." All MIght says getting another disbelieving look from Izuku."I was at my prime back then, but now I'm far from it. Not even talking about how endurance tests are my current weakness." Bringing his hand to his chin All Might says speculatively. "If I were to sacrifice all my time as a hero for the day I could hold those weights for maybe ten or fifteen minutes top, on the other side if I were to do it in moderation I would last half of what she did."
"..."
"Impressive, isn't it? I can count the number of heroes that are this strong with one hand. But she also seems to be the all-rounder type, look, at all these other videos, it seems David had his fun while testing her out."
"Yeah that's impressive, but I haven't heard anything about her. Surely someone with that much strength would already be a famous hero around the world."
'At least I'm pretty sure I would know about that, I did make a special series on foreigner heroes a few years ago, maybe she was only a student or perhaps an aspiring hero.'
"Humm… she may just not be a hero. Not everyone with great powers chooses to yield them, what we are seeing here might just be a once-in-a-lifetime chance for her to let loose. Well, I can always ask." Touching the typing bar All MIght inquires about the mysterious woman in the videos.
Not much after he receives a response.
"Heh?"
"What?"
David
Toshinori: She is pretty impressive. I didn't know someone like her was around but you must have sent me with something else in mind, right? Who is she?
David: She is crazy impressive, isn't she? There are very few people in the world who can be compared with you, especially around her age.
Toshinori: ?
David: I heard you were going to become a teacher at U.A, so I was just giving you the heads-up. This year you might get quite the hurricane at your school.
"She is going… to U.A?" Disbelief was palpable in Midoriya's words, in his mind, there was no way someone his age could be this strong.
"Hmmm? Well, there is no need to get so agitated." Sensing the reason for Midoriya's disbelief All Might points to the woman's file. "She became an adult not long ago, she has three more years of experience over you so will soon catch up… but also… don't let that get to your head. She is probably around the same level of strength as I had when I was her age."
Hearing All Might "encouraging words" Midoria's mood goes down again.
'I wonder if I'm even able to get to her level.'
Looking at the downcast boy All Might says with a kind smile. "Well don't worry too much. Every generation of One for All has been stronger than the last, there is no reason for you to be different, so I'm sure that if you give your all, I'm sure you will surpass her too."
"Really?" Midoria asks with a small smile creeping onto his face.
"Yes, I'm sure of it."
As a full smile blossoms on Midoria, All Might couldn't help but mirror it with his own soon falling on his iconic laughter.
But a sudden thought occurs to him, breaking his joyful mood. "But young Midoria, isn't it about time for you to go to school?"
"Ehhh….. Ahhhh. I'm going to be late." Hurriedly Midoria packs his things and starts running back home.
All Might on the other hand starts to gather littered trash Midoria moved today and a few smaller ones in secret to his truck when he suddenly hears a scream from far away.
"See you in the afternoon."
"Hahahaha, this is quite the rewarding job, isn't it?" All MIght in a good mood turns to look at his phone screen with a slight smile. "But a teacher… I wonder if I'm truly ready for that…"
*Scene break*
Having spent more than two months in Mustafa Artoria could say that she is familiar with her surroundings. Being a fairly big city located at the center of Shizuoka prefecture and being the home city of All MIght, made it into one of the biggest centers of hero activity of all kinds in the world and in turn a decently wealthy city. It also helps that U.A is located on the outskirts of the city, attracting a lot of attention from the local hero agencies and hero tech enterprises.
'But the city itself is rather disappointing. Despite all the money running around in the city, it looks rather plain. All buildings are made of grey concrete while also being completely flat and devoid of any personality, many roads have a severe lack of greenery and many people on the streets seem to not have a soul, though that's pretty much any place in the world at this point." Stopping her musings for a second Artoria remembers the worst detail of the city. "But the biggest offense is that Takoba Beach. Who had that much spare time to make a pile of trash with a car on top of it? At that point is a criminal act with full intent and commitment to it, the city should have long punished whoever the individual is behind such acts.'
Passing through the beach during her usual morning jogs Artoria couldn't help but sigh. "And such a beautiful shoreline too… ahhh… I better be back home I have an important day today."
Resuming her morning jogging Artoria comes back to her new home, surprisingly much like her past home a closed condo of apartments. "Morgan may not like me but I guess she still has the dignity to offer something proper of her status to someone even if she hates them, uncle Ector must have an exceptional silver tongue to convince Morgan to even help me in the first place. But then again for that side of the family, this amount of money is barely considered pocket money."
Reaching for her apartment door Artoria notices a box by the side of the door with a note on the top."Hmmm… from David. I prepared a little gift for your important day, hope you like it. Why is this guy still worrying about me? I should have just declined the offer to use the villain circuit back then, how annoying."
Entering her new and more spacious apartment Artoria leaves David's box by the entrance and heads to the apartment's main bathroom, turning the bathtub valve Artoria undresses and takes a quick shower to get the excess sweat and dirt off her body before entering the now-filled tub.
"Two main bedrooms and two guest rooms, all with king or queen-sized beds, a small study by the side of the primary main bedroom, four bathrooms, three with bathtubs and one with a sauna, a living room connected to a big kitchen, and a heated pool at the balcony all done with state of the art technology. I'm truly living a life of luxury here, it is unfortunate that I'll have to leave once I drop out of U.A I doubt Morgan will keep funding this without me going to school." Letting herself soak in the bathtub for a few more minutes Artoria gets up and starts to prepare to leave the house for her big day.
Stopping at the door she turns her eyes to the box by the door. "It would be rude to not even open it."
Picking the box sent by David, she brings it to the living room table and opens it up. Artoria looks at the content with a bewildered look. Inside the box, two pieces of black fabric neatly folded up below a note. It was from David roughly explaining the strange gift.
"Apparently, this fabric will not tear easily when I move." Artoria mutters." It's not like I really need it. My quirk seems to emulate the magic power from my past life, creating a "magic aura" that protects my clothes to a certain degree."
Touching the smooth material Artoria decides to give it a try. "This was made in one of the greatest technological facilities in the world if nothing else it should be comfortable to wear, right?"
Unfolding the black fabric she brings it to the bathroom to wear it, examining the two pieces of cloth one being a long-sleeve t-shirt smoothly contorting Artoria's upper body and ending slightly above the abdomen like an extended sports bra. The other piece covers from the waist down to the ankles the fabric in both pieces is completely black with no discernable details or patterns.
Seeing herself being almost completely covered in black from neck to ankles gives her a small frown. "Not the most fashionable look. Though if I were to the gym wearing this I would attract a lot of eyes."
Rolling up her sleeves Artoria wears her previous summer white shirt with long sleeves and open at the end, two golden buttons adorning the edge of the sleeves, giving the option to button up the ends of each sleeve and giving a slight touch of formality to the piece. For the waist and below Artoria simply picks a long blue skirt staying on the bathroom sink, for the last piece a simple black belt hanging slightly loose by the side of her hip.
Eying the few of her boots Artoria shakes her head. "Not today, I've already packed a second set of clothes and several other things for the exam. My bag is already full."
Deciding instead to pick a pair of sports shoes throwing the whole fit in disarray. "Elise would be mad seeing this."
"Pi Pi Pi Pi"
Hearing her phone's alarm clock ringing, Artoria sighs."I guess is finally time to go."
Artoria takes all the important things for the U.A examination and exits her apartment building, being just a few pens, her phone, spare clothes, and documentation.
'Most things nowadays are made digitally but you never know, maybe I would have to sign up something in paper there. It is better to be prepared in case something comes up.'
Giving her apartment a last glace Artoria checks if she hasn't forgotten anything, then with a satisfied nod, she exits.
Walking down to the street she goes to the nearest train station, Takoba Station, a dozen or so blocks away from the apartment, which radically increased the price of it, according to Morgan's words. Entering the train she fails to find a vacant seat having to remain standing. Letting her eyes wander around she notices many teens wearing the same black shirt and pants.
'Is this the classical Japanese student uniform? And today is an off day, are they all going to U.A right now?'
As if giving her the confirmation she needed many of the students seemed to be holding notebooks seriously studying something while others prayed fervently, hoping that a high power would help them.
Furthering her suspicions all the students exited the train at the same station and followed the same path as her, soon a few turned into dozens and dozens into hundreds.
"And of all of these only forty are ingressing in as hero students… pretty harsh." Murmuring to herself Artoria follows the path along with all the other soon they start to see a yellow wall signifying that they have reached the borders of the school. As they all walked along the yellow walls they were led to the most recognizable building within U.A the main 'H'.
Standing right in front of the front gates of U.A, Artoria's eyes follow along the concrete arcs above the participants and sets among the entrance building that mimic ancient greek designs for some reason, with three red doors with numbers one to three on them, the entire building seems to be inspired by gameshows, which weirdly contrast with the massive H-shaped building behind it, supposedly where the classrooms and most other 'normal' students facilities are.
'To be honest, it doesn't look very beautiful. I can't say what they were aiming for with all this mix mashed designs.'
She follows along with the students, ignoring all the attention she is getting from all the teens being all too used to it. Entering the main building she looked for the staff of the school as she was only informed that foreigners would do their written exam in a different location than the other participants. After looking around for a few minutes she sees a man with a giant blond mohawk, orange sunglasses, and an outfit choice resembling a rockstar holding a tablet in his hands, on the screen a message written in english, signaling students from abroad to approach the man.
Approaching the man Artoria asks in english."Sorry, can you inform me where I should I go for the written test?"
The man with a seemingly perpetual smile on his face says loudly attracting the attention of every single student in the hall. "Yo, you should be Artoria, right?" Taking a digital card from his pocket he gives it to Artoria. "This is your identification card, you can also use this to find the location of the written exam classroom, it also goes without saying that you can't lose this as it is the only way to identify you at this school, ky?"
Taking the card with her picture and name on it, Artoria sees a series of numbers serving as her identification, and by the bottom written in all bold letters ZONE B, and by its side a blue box with the word map written in it. Turning to the staff she says."Thanks for the help."
"It was no problem, the written test will start in an hour and end five hours later. Remember to prepare yourself well, okay. I'll be there before the test starts to give a further briefing."
Nodding at the man Artoria clicks on the map function, flipping the screen and revealing a map of the school with a red line indicating where to go. Following the line she reaches her destination a classroom with a plaque by the door side indicating this to be the examination site. By the other side of the door, there is a row of twelve chairs, being the first to get here Artoria picks the chair closest to the door.
As the minutes pass more students reach their destination, opting just to take a seat quietly. Soon roughly twenty minutes before the test starts the mohawk man also joins the group. "So everyone is here… well we have one missing." The man says while looking at the only empty chair, but this time instead of speaking in english he talks in japanese, confusing most of the students.
"Is it normal to have only this many students, from abroad?" Artoria says in perfect japanese while looking at the eleven people sitting by her side.
Being taken by surprise by her fluency the man replies slightly slower than he would normally, but still maintaining his usual smile. "U.A may be one of the best hero schools in the world, but that doesn't mean the language barrier doesn't exist. People usually prefer to go to the schools in their country or to a better one in an english speaking one. The fault is how much harder it is for westerners to learn the language. By the way, your english is perfect by your accent I take you come from England."
"No, my birthplace is Wales and my first language is welsh, so differently from most people I already have experience with learning intimidating languages."
'Techniquely speaking my first language was an ancient form of english, but this should suffice.'
"Ohh, so we have a polyglot on our hands. That's great for you." After addressing Artoria's curiosity the man turns to the rest of the students confused by their conversation and then says in english. "Hello, some of you may recognize me as Present Mic, the Voice Hero, first of all, sorry for the delay there were some things that held me back a little." Present Mic gives a glace to a small notebook in his hand before saying. "As you know your test will be slightly different from the other students due to your nationality, while exacts like math, physics, and science will be no different from what you are used to, others like japanese grammar, history, and literature will be a level below the other student's exam. For fairness, the japanese part of your exam will be worth twice as much, it may look harsh to you guys but we need to make sure you can keep up with the other students here, and we also need to know if we can have a basic level of communication as most of our staff doesn't speak english, ky?"
Hearing the blonde's words more than half of the participants start to look nervous.
'Looks like most of them will fail. It seems U.A doesn't go easy on its students, with the japonese section of the test being worth twice as much as the exacts, the students that didn't focus on learning the language won't have any chance even if their quirks are powerful, but as brutal as it looks it is necessary. This is a japanese public school, after all, you can't expect the school to accommodate and teach people that can barely speak the language of the country they are in.'
Opening the classroom door. "You can enter the classroom now if you want, your name will be on one of the desks, put your card against it so that the system can identify you properly. The test will start in ten minutes, I'll be here if you have any questions."
*Scene break*
Several hours later after the start of the written test, Artoria enters an auditorium filled with hundreds of students. At the front of the auditorium the same man that gave instructions at the written exam. As the participants pick their seats, Artoria hears someone muttering incredibly fast somewhere about how amazing is to have a high-rank pro-hero as a teacher, before being mercilessly shot down by someone else threatening to kill them and another student wearing glasses and a white school uniform.
Much like before, the mohawk man who introduced himself as Present Mic a pro-hero, starts explaining the details of the next part of the exam.
'So it is basically a destroy all robots you can and avoid the difficult one within ten minutes. Now I get why David said the villain circuit was similar to the U.A examination.'
After a few more minutes the presentation ends without a hassle and the students direct themselves to buses waiting for them by the side of the road built inside the school, stretching beyond the horizon making one wonder just how big is the U.A property. Painted on the lateral of the buses letters indicating which people should enter each bus, those that had the same letter on their card should enter the bus.
Entering the bus Artoria starts to wonder about the scale of things happening right now.
'Each bus has at least sixty people, with seven buses… that means four hundred and twenty people are participating in this exam at maximum. Sixty people per exam site, with the goal being giving them the freedom to experiment and unleash the potential of their quirks… just how big are the examination sites and how many are there.'
Artoria's wondering is cut short as her eyes lay on a massive football stadium not far in the distance. But, it didn't end there as time passed and the buses moved along the road, she saw several giant walls with giant letters painted on them, mirroring the letters on the buses and cards.
"Okay… now this is just insanity." Artoria openly states standing in front of a massive open gate. She looks at the city on the other side of the gate with a dumbfounded expression.
'U.A has only two classes per year each class having a maximum of twenty students, which means the total number of a hundred and twenty students counting the three years, that would use any of these. I can maybe understand the school building one mock city, but… seven… really, why would they need to build seven mock cities for just a hundred people?'
Just as Artoria is contemplating the school choice of money expenditure a sudden scream startles her. "START."
Recognizing the voice Artoria looks in the direction she heard it. "What? Were you guys expecting a count to three? There is no such thing in real life, now get moving"
Without needing to mention it a second time all the participants start running passing the city gate, leaving Artoria behind, or in better words, her and another boy staring blankly at everyone else running but to his credit, he starts running immediately as he realizes the situation.
"They are quite eager, huh?"
*Scene break*
Standing atop a building by the side of the main road leading from the gate Artoria observes the chaotic battlefield below. Students scattered fighting their respective robots to the best of their abilities while also trying to not get their kills stolen by other participants. Notably, something attracts her attention.
"These robots seem to be brittle, that girl definitively didn't generate enough force to damage most common metals like iron or steel. So how do these can support their weight? They are surely quite heavy, being twice the height of a normal human being, maybe the exterior is made to be easily destroyable while the interior is much tougher?" Deciding to test her theory she picks a piece of the concrete off the rooftop and crushes it into a ball, getting into position she lightly throws the concrete ball at the simplest robot around a one-pointer fighting another student.
Hitting perfectly at the junction piece that connects the robot's wheel to its torse, Artoria observes how the robot's exterior dents slightly as the robot immediately falls to the ground, losing its only way to move around.
"Damn human, I will exterminate you."
'As I thought. With that throw, I would be barely able to break someone's bones, nowhere near enough to bring down that massive chunk of metal. The school probably made some kind of mechanism that would snap the internal supporting structures of the robot to make the student's life easier or something along those lines.'
"Well, I can think more about that later. So… what should I do?" Looking at the nearby robots, all are taken by at least one student trying to take it down when she notices that same boy at the start struggling to find something to fight.
'It seems someone is unlucky, looking at how desperate he is and the lack of movement on his part he is starting to panic. Not my problem though. I need to get my own kills before the timer runs down but I'm also not interested in stealing those kills from these guys, my best option is to go somewhere else.'
But no matter where she looks everywhere nearby not a single vacant spot in which she could hunt the robots just by herself.
"Will I have to move to somewhere else?" As she keeps looking around an idea pops in her head and she turns to look at the sky. "That will work just fine."
Tensioning her legs, the ground cracks while a bluish glow envelopes Artoria's body the wind currents change directions creating small gales around her, and her knees bend as the fissures in the ground expand.
"When was the last time I did something like this?" With a slightly excited smile, Artoria jumps, and not a second after her words were uttered, Artoria finds herself in the vastness of the sky, after admiring the view for a brief moment she looks down at the mock city.
"Around ten kilometers in total, they didn't save any money while building this." Looking around the city in search of robots Artoria notices in the far distance away from the crowd of students, a block's worth of street cracks open revealing a ramp, observing further that the ramp leads to a tunnel in which several robots use to come out on the street.
"Huh? That's interesting." With gravity doing its job Artoria feels herself fastly descending to the city below. Getting in a better position Artoria starts to concentrate some of her energy on the palm of her hand. "I haven't tried this before but given the properties of my quirk this may work."
A few seconds of concentration later, a small whirlwind forms in the palm of her hands, directing her hands in the opposite direction she saw the previous robots up to the sky. "Let's see if this works."
As she releases the whirlwind in her hands she feels an incredible force pushing her down to the opposite direction leading her to the place she wants to go.
While falling from the sky Artoria aims at the nearest robot landing perfectly on it, she feels the robot's body giving in to the force of the impact slamming onto the ground and dragging it across the street with the remaining momentum, sending rubble and dust everywhere. This time mechanism or not the robot got crushed.
"Works just like invisible air." Noting the similarities between her quirk and Merlin's enchantments Artoria couldn't help but notice the incredible coincidence. But prfering to concentrate on the matter at hand she lets that line of thought go.
"These should all be three points, right? They committed a mistake by releasing all of them from the same spot." Artoria casually says while taking a large chunk of metal from the three-pointer below her throwing it directly at the face of the one right in front of her.
Stepping down from the robot below her feet she calmly walks in the direction of the three remaining three-pointers in the street.
"Our brothers will be avenged."
"Whoever programmed these had quite the sense of humor." Saying with a slight smile Artoria intently looked at the missile wholes in the top part of the three-pointers, but no matter how long she waited nothing came out.
'Makes sense, they wouldn't use rockets against children but… do they shoot rockets if the occasion demands it? I'm starting to question what this school is supposed to be.'
Trying to run over Artoria, the first three-pointer charges at full speed, but just as calm as she was before Artoria brings her hand forward stopping the robot in its tracks, failing to run Artoria over the robot swings its arm down at her trying to crush it enemy.
In response to the robot attack, Artoria merely takes a step, pressing her outstretched arm touching the robot forward sending it crashing into a nearby lampost.
"Easy enough."
"Eliminate."
The last two three-pointers come at her together but that matters not to Artoria as she kicks the nearest three-pointer with full force sending it crashing into the last three-pointer, the force being so great that both robots are sent flying to the nearby building making it collapse just as they hit it.
"Maybe it would be better to hold back a little…" Turning her attention away from the collapsing building Artoria jumps over to another rooftop."If I'm not mistaken another group of robots should be a few blocks ahead."
Jumping from rooftop to rooftop Artoria reaches the next group of robots, but instead of jumping down to confront them directly she opts for a less time-consuming approach."It has been six minutes and I only have fifteen points, let's not play around anymore.."
Just like she did with the one-pointer before, she tears pieces of the concrete below her and crushes them into a ball before aiming at the group of ten below.
'One three-pointer, three two-pointers, and six one-pointers. With the fifteen points that I have now, that would make exactly thirty, what a coincidence.'
Just as before she perfectly hits the heads of all robots, but instead of just denting the metal she shoots directly through their heads destroying them in an instant.
"I lost quite a bit of time at the start but considering my superior strength I should still be above most students, this exam acceptance average should be around twenty-five to thirty points, given the time granted and seeing how fast the other students were taking them down. But let's not get complacent, I should aim for sixty points just to ensure I pass the exam." Making her mind Artoria easily cruises through the examination, casually destroying robots here and there for the next three minutes, before stopping at sixty-eight points.
Staying on a rooftop Artoria looks at the students below running everywhere looking for robots to defeat with grim expressions."I wonder if the students can use the results of this examination on other hero schools."
'By logic almost succeeding at U.A puts above the average in most hero schools right? After all, U.A is the most sought school in the country getting good grades here even if not passing ones should be enough for other schools to want you.'
"Oh? That's the boy from the start."
As the participants try their best at scrambling points to pass the test they feel the ground shake, attracting their gazes to the origin of it. Much like the students Artoria also turns her attention to the origin of the rumbling setting her sights on the behemoth that just appeared out of nowhere, despite its size dwarfing the nearby ten-story buildings.
Suddenly on the streets, all the robots that were taken down by the students reactivate at the same time and start to chant.
"The time has come, our revolution begins. The great one has come, and our revenge is nigh."
Just as quickly as they came they went, exploding in fireworks. Their chant, unsurprisingly scares the students as the massive robot approaches them all. Soon one starts running away from the robot, and once the atmosphere settled all of them also run away in fear.
Not getting much impressed by the show below Artoria just blankly stares at the zero-pointer. "You know what? At this point I don't even care anymore, this school just has access to infinite money somehow."
Deciding to ignore the robot worth zero points Artoria starts to turn away to leave but her eyes suddenly lend on a girl in the streets below dangerously close to the zero-pointer, the girl is panicking trying her hardest to release her leg that is stuck below a piece of fallen rubble with a desperate expression.
"It won't run her over since nobody has ever died at one of these examinations, the school wouldn't allow itself to commit such a mistake." But for some reason, Artoria couldn't help but keep looking at the girl. "Hahhh… it is not like I have anything better to do right now."
Just as she was about to jump from the rooftop to help the girl a green blur passed through her field of view surprising her.
'What was that?'
Following the direction of the blur Artoria's eyes settle on a familiar figure, that same boy who was desperately running around with a panicked look in his eyes is now in the air readying himself to punch the zero-pointer squarely in the face.
"SMAAAAAAAASHH"
Much to Artoria's surprise the punch completely obliterates the zero-pointer denting its face and sending its head flying back so hard that its supporting spine shatters and explodes all the way down to its supporting legs.
"A good punch… but."
Looking closely at the boy Artoria notices that his legs have gone completely jelly and not in a figurative way. Similarly to his legs, his arm once released of tension gets in the same predicament, both flapping in the wind once the boy starts to rapidly descent.
"That's not good." Taking quick action Artoria jumps after the falling figure, getting a hold of him she accelerates further landing on the side of a building and letting the momentum disperse through her body she once more jumps this time landing on a lamppost and then finally landing on the ground.
Having finished her rescue she carefully places the boy on the ground lying him slowly to not cause more pain than necessary.
Looking for the boy's injuries Artoria grimaces. "This…"
The boy's right arm is blackened as if his entire arm had just been hit by a sledgehammer and then cooked in a bonfire, furthermore, previously she saw his arms flapping randomly as he flew to the ground indicating that the bones in his arm had been shattered, her eyes follow down and land on both of his legs, differently from his arm the clothing surrounding them wasn't ripped apart but due to them lying in positions that legs aren't supposed to be is easy to infer that the damage is similar to the one in the arm.
'Is it even possible to recover from this? Did he just become a cripple?'
As Artoria's somber thoughts increase she hears a weak voice coming from the boy.
"Points… I need…" The boy tries to crawl away with a desperate look in his eyes but Artoria quickly holds him in place.
"Your time is already up." With a conflicting expression, Artoria tells the hard truth.
'I can't let him move too much, I don't know if this kind of injury is recoverable, letting him overexert himself is not going to help his odds though.'
The boy turns to look at Artoria with tears coming through his eyes, desperation clearly expressed through them but it quickly fades away as he passes out.
Tension fills Artoria as she quickly goes to check his pulse and breathing, getting a response her immediate fears are released but she still looks around for any kind of help. Just as she was starting to ponder if she should carry him out of the examination site she hers Present Mic screaming.
"Time's over."
Not much after a group of robots not much different from the ones used to test the students appear carrying an old woman in their arms. Approaching Artoria and the passed out boy the old woman says.
"You did a great job, young lady. He will be fine now." Just as she says those words two of the robots following her start to lift the boy off the ground and bring him to the old woman. "Back in the day, they used to call me Recovery Girl, no wounds stay unhealed under my watch."
Approaching the boy she bows her head and kisses him on the cheek before turning to Artoria. "Are you fine girl?"
"Yes… I'm fine." Artoria replies slightly absently, her eyes still on the unconscious boy but before she can voice any concern a girl's voice speaks from behind her.
"I-Is he going to be fine?" That same girl who had her leg stuck under the rubble comes running to Recovery Girl with a worried expression.
"My, my quite the bad boy, to have so two girls worrying over him this much." Throwing a small joke to diffuse the tension, Recovery Girl then explains. "My quirk can heal most wounds even those that can look unnatural and unrecoverable, don't worry back in my day I've seen worse, he will be back on his feet in a few hours."
Having finished her explanation, the old woman reaches into her pockets and gives both girls candy. "I hope to see you two at U.A. Don't forget to check your mail next week."
Seeing the old woman turn her back and start to help other students by giving them a kiss on the cheek only one thought crossed Artoria's mind.
'Quirks surely are weird.'
*Scene break*
In a dark room with several monitors displaying the various areas of the examination, all U.A cheer on as the green-haired boy destroys the massive zero-pointer.
"It is just as you said Toshinori. Neither of them disappointed I can see an excellent hero blossoming in both of them." Nezu the small animal says to skeletal men sitting by his side.
Toshinori All MIght just nods as he is just too preoccupied watching his successor being carried away unconscious.
"These recent years the number of amazing students trying to enroll at U.A has increased significantly, it is such a waste that we have to choose only forty of these. By last year's standards, we would have at least seventy students successfully passing the test." One of the many teachers says exasperated.
"Humm…that little blondie definitely takes the crown this year. It is not wrong to say that she is much stronger than any other participant this year, neither the explosion boy nor green-head comes even close if we are considering just their practicality. The explosion boy is just too loud for normal urban environments and he seems to be tired out by all that exploding around, the boy that was destroyed the zero-pointer is a non-factor, his quirk also destroyed his arm and legs making him a liability. The blondie on the other side showed good enough tactical thinking in taking a higher viewpoint to locate the robots easily. Still, more impressively she also could have had a much higher overall score if she hadn't been stopping every now and then." A woman with a sultry voice gives small commentaries on the three flashiest test takers.
"That girl looks familiar to me. Nezu do we have any information on her?" A tired voice suddenly asks from the back of the room.
"It's not good to ask for students' personal information before they even enroll Aizawa-sensei. But I guess you can easily find her information by just looking at her name." Nezu the small animal by All Might's side says while taking a tablet by his side."Her name is Artoria Pendragon, eighteen this year. Usually, someone carrying this name would be much more famous, so, surprisingly, I didn't even know she existed. If Toshinori-sensei didn't tell me in advance who she was I wouldn't know about her. Most of the information is on bookface by the way."
Mirroring the tablet screen on the biggest monitor in the room Nezu shows a few conversations about Artoria on the internet. "She is a straight-A student through and through, was always top of the class served as the student council president for almost two years, and had no incidents until the end of her last year at high school in which she dropped out suddenly."
"It is pretty weird… I heard some bad rumors about that man." Hearing Nezu's words Aizawa suddenly says without context.
"I don't think so. Looking at the circumstances it probably was her decision. She still has no involvement with the hero side of the world up to this point, it would be much weirder for him to force her to this at this point neither do I think he is the type of man to wait that long for someone else. But we never know, maybe when the school year starts we can have a chat with her and what kind of thinking led her to our school." Opposing Aizawa's opinion, Nezu finishes the topic in a more lighthearted direction.
"This smells like a problem to me." Saying his last piece Aizawa moves to a chair and starts to analyze the test takers' footage on his own.
*Scene break*
Waking up in the middle of the night the red-headed boy gets up from the bed with a dry throat. Exiting his room he descends the stairs and goes to the ground floor.
Not surprised, the teen sees the kitchen's light on.
"Kiritsugu, if you are back home you should go to bed. You know that mom doesn't like when you spend the entire night awake down." Being used to the man's actions the teen just lightly scolds him before proceeding to pick up a glass of water.
"I know Shirou. I'm just sorting these up." The man replies unbothered by Shirou's words, seemingly more focused on the task at hand.
Feeling curious or maybe just acting on their usual routine the boy starts to brew some coffee before joining the man. Putting one cup on the table Shirou turns to look at the scattered paper on the table.
"Disappearance cases? This many?" Soon the boy also becomes engrossed in the information laid down.
"Noticed, something?" Not immediately answering the man just makes a simple question.
Furrowing his brows the teen gives the information a second glance. "They are all criminals. Are you looking for a vigilante?"
"Hopefully not. If a single person has the power to make over eight people disappear out of thin air without leaving any traces then we are in trouble. I would rather have a new criminal organization or a terrorist group forming under my nose than to have a single person hold that much power, people are easily corrupted after all." He somehow says both sarcastic and analytical at the same time.
"Anything in common between the victims?" Shirou asks.
"They are not victims in my book, at least not yet." The man says with his voice dripping a small amount of venom as if the notion of a criminal being a victim is by itself completely impossible. "Besides them being all criminals with easy-to-find records? No. They are all from different parts of the country, with different allegiances and groups. Some were exceptional individuals, some were leaders of gangs or small criminal groups, a few gangs disappeared entirely, and a few cases of dangerous individuals vanishing from inside prisons."
"I see... you might be right about a new criminal group then. The question is, who has this much persuasive power and what is their purpose?" Finally getting a hold of how serious the situation is Shirou starts to analyze all the information seriously.
"Hard to say. Most of my guesses for masterminds for this mass disappearance are either dead or in Tartarus. As for what are they planning? With these many people? Probably a big attack or multiple around the country, we can rule out large-scale criminal organizations for now, they might have the numbers for a hierarchical structure but they lack the raw numbers to create a proper organization, and if that was their goal all along there would be no need to disappear their people attracting everyone's attention to them." Kirutsugu once again shows his expertise by stating what is plausible and what is not
"We can also rule down the possibility of them being taken out of the country or this all being just a distraction. Too many japonese criminals with no clear connection to the exterior for this to be an outsider's actions and too many people are involved to be just a simple distraction." Despite being sure his old man already got that point Shirou still voices it out loud.
"You're right." Simply saying the man just remains in silence.
Not perturbed by his lack of response Shirou continues. "In this list, a dozen or so have quirks related to water could they be aiming for some kind of facility near water like a nuclear powerplant? I also see this in Naoto Hikigari, his quirk allows him to block radio signals they are most probably preparing to attack an isolated place in which simply blocking communications would be enough to isolate them from the world. "
"Those with acuatic quirks might be just a ruse to distract us from their real goal or they might be just filling their rank with diverse quirks." Kiritsugo quickly poses a counter-argument to Shirou's idea before continuing. "But you are right about Naoto Hikigari, they would have near no use for him if they were to attack somewhere near big cities but even though that reduces significantly the number of places they would attack or at least places in which Naoto Hikigari would be that only reduces possible targets a bit. There are still dozens of possibilities all around Japan and many of those are out of myrange of acting."
"Then why are you working on this?" Shirou inquires not sure why Kiritsugo would be working on something he has no way of properly acting on.
"An old college of mine came to me with this data, it's classified information, some of the disappeared were caught by me some time ago. The information is probably traveling through many other heroes to see if they have any clue about this. " Kiritsugu explains.
"Been traveling through many hands? Classified information?" Shirou says almost sorting.
"Well... the involved already know about this anyway, leakage is not a worry for those guys. They are desperate for some reason though as if they are already out of time." Finally showing a semblance of emotion for the first time since the conversation started and it is worry.
"By them you mean..."
"Yes, the Hero Public Safety Commission. Only they gather this much information this quickly, to begin with."
"I see." Staying quiet for a while Shirou starts to ponder how to say his next words, the unusual silence on the other hand attracts Kiritsugu's attention. Much like Shirou is used to his antics the man is also used to Shirou's.
"Even if we were to start investigating, the possibility of discovering anything new would be extraordinarily low and even if we discover anything the information and the case would be passed to the H.P.S.C." Denying Shirou's involvement Kiritsugo further elaborates with a frown. "Besides that, the new semester is just starting. If Iri were to know about me leading you to miss your first day at school she would kill me."
Unconscious to Shirou a smile crepes on his face back then Kiritsugo would never have shown this side of him so frequently, it almost makes him content to be in this new world.
"But what if we were to find something with my quirk? Any amount of information would be able to give us an edge against this new group of villains." Shirou says with a smirk knowing too well that he just needs to give the man a few pushes to bring him to his side, much to his adoptive mother's anger.
"It would also not be the first time I would miss a school day Principla Nezu also allows me to miss a day or two as long as my grades stay the same. I didn't get a hero license earlier than most for nothing Kiritsugu."
'Just a bit more convincing. He Always yields in the end anyway.'
"What is this talk about missing school about?" Suddenly from behind Shirou na toneless woman's voice echoes in the room.
"Iri I-I..."
"I what Kiri?" Despite expressing no emotion in her voice, her smiling face was vividly expressive as if announcing the prelude of someone's untold amount of pain.
"Dear, you weren't about to allow Shirou to miss his first day at school, were you? I might be hearing wrong, right?"
"No Iri I was just saying to Shirou that I wouldn't allow him..." Feeling like a cornered rat Kiritsugu shrinks in place.
"That's good to hear. Now, why don't we go up? You must be pretty tired after spending the entire day working more so when you bring work home in the middle of the night. Even more when you wake Shirou up to discuss those useless things, right dear?" Irisvel smiles only grow and so are the fierceness in her words.
"But Iri-"
"Kiri, dear. I thought you were tired, didn't you? Why don't you go up so that we can talk later." Denying Kiritsugu the right to defend himself, Irisivel just sent him to his room the promise of further scolding hung in the air.
After seeing her husband's figure depart from the kitchen Irisvel eyes stay glued on Shirou for several seconds before releasing a tired sigh. "Shirou..." Not finding proper words to talk to her adoptive son Iri approaches him and places her hand on his cheek. "Shirou... I know that you just want to help... but... you can't keep forgetting yourself, what are people in the school going to think if you don't go on your first day?"
Bringing her other hand to Shirou's chest she pats him gently. "I'm proud of Shirou but... just try not to waste your life away, okay?"
Getting on her tiptoes Irisivel pushes Shirou down to kiss him on the forehead, letting him go Iri gives Shirou a long look while caressing his cheek. "Clean these before going up." Iri says while pointing to the documents on the table before leaving the kitchen.
"And tomorrow we are going out with Illya so remember to prepare, she is quite excited since this is the last time she is going out before school starts… goodnight Shirou."
"Goodnight, mom." Shirou says with an apologetic smile.
'Even after all these years I still don't know how to deal with her.'
With a sigh Shirou's eyes land on the confidential documents on the table, staying there for much longer than his adoptive mom would have liked.
"Let's sleep first."
*Chapter end*
In this chapter, we got our first Midoriya appearance…. yay(being honest I don't like the guy very much). Second, we got a bit of scaling for Artoria directly from All Might, is not very accurate for the moment but it is what we will have for a while.
Second Artoria's setting in Japan, her living conditions, and her thoughts about it, are not much here just Artoria analyzing a few of her surroundings and doing some criticism. Nad just some light foreshadowing as always.
Then we had the exam, there was not much to talk about the written test even in the original it was glossed. As for the practical test, I actually rewrote it a few times as a few times Artoria was way too aggressive and much more destructive than she was in this final version. I wanted to let her lose but it wouldn't make as much sense as it did during the I-Island test since she is not testing herself this time and she doesn't want to attract as much attention. (p.s: Artoria getting pissed at U.A expenditure is actually just me complaining about how nonsensical U.A is)
Aizawa being Aizawa and even more foreshadowing.
And finally Shirou's first appearance with Kiritsugu, sadly will be the only one for a little while for many reasons. But more importantly, what are they discussing? I think many of you already know.
That's all folks, hope you enjoyed the chapter!
