(7) Thanksgiving: The Fox And The Boy

While on Thanksgiving vacation with the family at his Grandmother's house in Trofte-Minnesota, Cameron, his pup, Mickey, and his two cousins encounter a boy who has run away from home with his pet Fox to keep it from being killed and made into a Thanksgiving meal by his stepfather, the sheriff. And they soon find themselves hiding the boy and fox out at Cam's Grandma's place.

25. T24: The Sheriff

T24: The Sheriff.

"I'll answer it." Monica said before she exited the kitchen and went into the living-room where she walked up to the front door and opened it, revealing the Tofte sheriff, Gus Scar, standing on the other side. He had brown hair and brown eyes and wore a long sleeve uniform and a white cowboy hat, his big star-badge on the left side of his uniform shirt.

"Hello, Monica." Sheriff Scar greeted with a smile.

"Hey." Monica said, smiling, before stepping outside onto the porch and closing the door. "How are you this evening?"

"Fine." Sheriff Scar said.

"You don't sound fine...or look it. What's wrong?" Monica said with concern.

"Well...i was in the area...and...i thought maybe i'd stop by and ask you a few questions." Sheriff Scar said.

"What about?" Monica asked.

"My stepson...Will Manning. He's missing. He ran away three days ago." Sheriff Scar answered and explained.

"Oh, my gosh." Monica said. "Well, how old is he?"

"He's 10." Sheriff Scar answered.

"Oh, my goodness. What does he look like?" Monica said.

Sheriff Scar reached inside his right pants pocket and pulled out a folded up piece of paper, un-folded it, handed it to Monica, and she saw that it was a headshot picture of a 10-year old boy with long wheat brown neck-length hair and blue eyes.

"He's so young." Monica said.

"I know." Sheriff Scar said before taking the picture back. "That's why i'm here. I have reason to believe he may be hiding up here in the mountains."

"What makes you think he's up here?" Monica asked.

"Because my wife, her ex, the cops and i have put missing persons posters of him up all over Tofte. We've even asked all over town. Including the bus station." Sheriff Scar said.

"What about the airport?" Monica asked.

"Yeah, my wife considered that possibility too. But then i thought about it and realized that the chances of a child purchasing a plane ticket or sneaking past security to board a plane are zero-percent likely in today's time. Things have changed at airports since 9/11 in 2001 after all." Sheriff Scar said.

"Yes, i suppose they have." Monica said.

The door then opened.
