Chapter 8: Tomodachi (all for one- one for all)
Lately, everything had been calm and sweet around Akado High. Yankumi was doing her best to encourage Class 3D to participate in Akado Academy's annual festival, but the boys showed little interest. They didn't want to bother with something so mundane or boring. That was, until Yamato mentioned that girls would be attending as guests. Suddenly, everything changed. Everyone was eager to get involved. They even came up with the idea to create a "Hottie Café" as their class's theme. Mae, Yamato, and Yankumi couldn't help but wonder—who exactly were these "Hotties"?
"You guys know you're not that hot, right?" Yankumi commented, but her words were drowned out by the boys' excitement as they began planning and organizing the café, ignoring her entirely.
Their evenings together were just as fun, often spent hanging out at Mae's place, which was the only spot without parents around and filled with plenty to do. When boredom set in, they'd head out to a game center, karaoke, or just wander around aimlessly. It was a carefree time, and it made everyone happier. Laughter replaced the usual grumpy expressions, and there were more smiles on their faces than there had been in a long time.
On this particular night, the group decided to visit a maid café to observe how it operated, hoping to apply what they saw to their "Hottie Café." Mae, however, was certain their real motive was to check out the girls. The maids were indeed cute and sweet, and even Mae found herself paying attention to them. On their way back, their mood was infectious, with everyone (even Mae) shouting the maid café's slogan, "Cutie Cutie Blah Blah! Cutie beam!" Ogata couldn't help but shake his head, thinking about how ridiculous they all looked. *Why is she so excited over this?* he thought for a moment. Sometimes, Mae made him (and even Kazama) forget she was actually a girl.
The playful atmosphere came to an abrupt halt when they noticed a group of eight people ganging up on a boy. "It's a shakedown," Honjo said with a serious tone. "This is bad," Kazama muttered, stepping forward with his hands shoved in his pockets. Ogata lingered behind, casually slinging his bag over his shoulder, observing. Mae stood beside him, glaring at the group with intensity. Kazama shoved Kuraki, Honjo, Ichi, and Kamiya aside to shield them, blocking their path. "Let's run," he suggested, leaving everyone stunned.
"You got a problem?" one of the gang members sneered at them, but Mae was already glaring back, ready to take action. Yet, to everyone's surprise, she stepped back. It was rare for Mae to hold back—she usually spoke her mind without hesitation.
"No, not at all!" Kamiya said quickly, waving his hand in front of his face with a smile.
"No, we don't!" Ichi added, matching his friend's grin.
"Hey, wait a sec," another voice spoke up—the leader of the gang. "Aren't you guys from Akado?"
"Uh, yeah, we are," Ichi and Kamiya replied, still smiling, while the rest of the group watched, and Ogata kept his gaze averted. "They're Goda-san's lowerclassmen, then," someone in the gang murmured.
"There's no such thing as lowerclassmen here!" Goda shot back, sneering. "Anyone can get into Bakado Academy, right?"
"That's true," another member of Goda's gang agreed, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Nothing interesting at that school, right?" They continued taunting, and now Ogata finally turned to face them.
"That's not true," Yamato retorted, stepping forward and glaring at them. The gang members turned to look at him in surprise.
"Huh?" Goda said, taken aback.
"The school isn't half as bad as you think," Ogata explained, walking a few steps closer to Goda.
Ren joined in, "That's right! It's not that bad."
And, in unison, the team of six and Mae nodded in agreement, all of them firmly stating that Akado wasn't as terrible as the gang made it out to be. But Goda wasn't convinced. In fact, he got angrier and rallied his group to attack. But the guys didn't flinch. They just grinned and agreed to run. It wasn't the coolest move, but it was definitely the safest. They'd outsmarted Goda and his gang, and as they dashed off, the gang was left even more furious than before.
The next day, the class learned just who Goda really was. It turned out that he controlled most of the schools in the area and had earned the nickname "The Legendary Ringleader of Akado." This revelation sent a wave of worry through the group of six, with Mae included. After the events of the previous night, everyone felt on edge. "We'll be okay, right?" they asked, looking for reassurance. While Ogata and Ren tried to sound confident, agreeing that things would be fine, deep down, Ogata was just as concerned. Even Mae couldn't shake the feeling that Goda was trouble.
Despite the unease, everyone kept pushing forward with their plans for the 'Hottie Cafe' at the festival. The whole school was buzzing with excitement, working hard to prepare. Happy yells and busy students ran around, filling the air with a sense of celebration at Akado High. Class 3D handed out flyers to attract young ladies to their cafe, though most of the students' efforts ended in failure, with their overly enthusiastic approach only scaring people away. The only ones who took the brochures were a few chubby older ladies, who eagerly snatched them and crashed into the group, leaving them sprawled on the ground. Mae couldn't help but smile at the sight. "Looks like you finally found some ladies to attend," she teased.
The mood shifted quickly when Goda appeared. He spotted the festival brochures and, surprisingly, thanked them for the previous night's interaction. However, his gratitude quickly turned to something darker as he revealed that he knew Ogata and Kazama were the leaders of Akado, which meant a confrontation was inevitable. Just as things were about to escalate, Yankumi appeared and intervened, preventing any further conflict.
Later that night, the boys were warned not to confront Goda or his gang directly. Ren made it clear that Goda was bad news. But things took a sudden turn when Goda called Yamato, informing him that he had captured two members of their team. Without hesitation, the group of six sprang into action, rushing to save their friends. Just as they arrived, the police showed up, forcing Goda to retreat and making him angrier than ever.
The following morning, the group arrived at school only to find that the festival decorations had been destroyed. It was clear that Goda had come through the school overnight, wrecking everything. The conflict had started as a personal issue between Ogata and Kazama's team and Goda, but soon escalated when Goda decided to involve the entire school. The group of seven readied themselves to face him, but before they could, Yankumi stopped them, urging them to focus on what they had built together. "You're finally getting along and making memories," she said, reminding them not to let Goda destroy their hard work and happiness. Everyone agreed, and they quickly set to work fixing the decorations.
But trouble, it seemed, had no intention of leaving the group alone. Ogata stepped out of the classroom one day to take a call, with Mae and Ren following him outside. "Hello?" Ogata answered. On the other end of the line, a voice spoke. "How did you like my remodeling job?" Ogata sighed and muttered, "So it was you, after all."
Goda's voice came through again. "I heard you're still going ahead with the festival," he said, his tone menacing. "Don't think it's all over." His words struck a nerve, and Ogata knew that Goda was preparing for another attack on the school.
As Ogata flipped his phone shut, Ren and Mae blocked his path. "Tak! Don't try to act cool!" Ren said with a grin. Ogata looked at them, surprised. "You can't handle him alone, can you?" Ren added, his tone serious.
Ogata, for the first time, admitted, "Yeah." Mae's eyes widened at his admission. It was the first time she had seen Ogata acknowledge he needed help.
"Dangerous fight! Possibilities of winning: null! I'm in!" Mae chimed in, ready for action.
Ren suggested, "You should stay behind."
Mae, fired up, retorted, "Don't even try to stop me."
"Let her come," Yamato interjected, knowing that Mae wouldn't back down. "Just don't overdo it."
One by one, the rest of the group appeared, shouting in unison, "We're coming too!" Together, they set off to face Goda. However, before they reached him, two classmates spotted them and rushed to alert Yankumi. She immediately called Ogata, discovering that the team had set off to prevent Goda from ruining the festival.
After some time, the group reached Goda's warehouse, ready for a showdown. Inside, Goda's gang stood armed with pipes, and the tension was palpable. Ogata, Mae, and Kazama stood at the center, with the others flanking them.
"What's with you guys?" Goda sneered, not understanding their resolve. "Only seven of you? These guys are really stupid. But I guess you coming all the way here saves us the trouble," he continued, laughing with his gang.
Ogata glared back. "You're only mad at us. Don't drag the others into this."
Goda scowled, "It doesn't matter what happens to the school. It's pointless to go to that school."
Kazama shot back, "It's not pointless! School just started getting interesting."
The rest of the group, including Ogata, chimed in, saying they were proud to be part of Akado High. Things had changed for the better, and they wanted to protect what they had built.
"We won't let you stand in our way!" Ogata said with resolve.
Goda, seething with anger, charged toward them. "What kind of BS is this?" he yelled as the fight erupted.
Goda's gang outnumbered them, but the seven of them held their own. Each had to face multiple opponents, but Mae managed to hold her ground despite the odds. The fight seemed like it might be over in Goda's favor, especially when Yamato took a critical blow. But just as the battle reached its peak, Yankumi appeared, intervening once again. She effortlessly handled Goda and his gang, demonstrating her true strength. She even tried to show Goda that he was wrong.
After a short but intense battle, Goda, beaten and humiliated, fled. The group knew they hadn't seen the last of him, but for now, they had won.
The team helped each other back on their feet and made their way back to school. Ogata and Ren checked on Mae, relieved to find she was fine. With Yankumi's guidance, they returned to the school to continue with the festival, determined not to let Goda or anyone else ruin what they had worked so hard to build.
