Chapter 37: Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door
Hey everyone, I'm back with a new chapter. Sorry about the wait. I needed a bit of help with this one. This was a big one. It's over 2 years since Owl House ended and I have quite a few plans to help make it interesting. I hope you like what I have planned. Please Review and Enjoy.
Outside of the Owl House, Hooty was using a typewriter to send a message to Lilith.
'Dearest Lulu, I hope this letter finds you well, and that you're enjoying your time with your parents. I'm writing to let you know that I'm a genius! Whenst I wrote you last, I was in the throes of a malaise. That's when I got your letter!' Hooty typed as he recalled the events of her letter.
Flashback:
One night, Hooty was reading the letter Lilith had sent.
'Hello, Hootsifer. Your letter concerned me. You write of feeling unimportant while everyone is off having adventures. But, Hooty, you are the Owl House. You take care of everyone inside you. If that isn't a worthy purpose, then what is?' Lilith's letter read.
Inspired by the letter, Hooty opens the door and peeks inside.
"How are we doing Hootin' House?" Hooty asks checking on everyone.
"Can you keep it down?" King asks as his voice begins to crack. "Down! Down! Ugh, why does this keep happening?"
"Sounds like our little demon is becoming a de-man," Hooty said approaching King.
"Ugh, why does that sound so wrong coming from you? You! Ugh, I am done with this!" King snaps storming off.
"Those teens, eh? Their moods change like the wind." Hooty said floating over towards Eda who had her face buried in papers.
Lifting her head, Hooty gasped to see Eda had huge bags under her eyes and were being held open by clothespins.
"Whoa!" Hooty said startled.
"I'm freaking out, planning something big, and I'm weaker than a newborn witchling. If I wanna protect you guys, I have to train as hard as I can to get strong! No rest!" Eda declares.
"But every time you overwork yourself, you turn into the Owl Beast." Hooty reminds.
"No rest!" Eda snaps standing up.
Taking out an air horn she blew it throughout the house startling everyone else in it.
Nearby Luz was examining the Echo Mouse.
"Can you please be quiet? You're scaring the echo mouse. And if he's not happy, I'll never make my way into Amity's Heart." Luz said before blushing realizing what she said. "I mean Minato's Heart. Uh I mean find a way back home! Uh, we need to go!" Luz said grabbing the cage and running upstairs.
Upstairs, Minato was helping Blanca and Tiger Lily load up on elixirs.
"Alright is that everything?" Minato asks.
"Yep, this should last Lilith a while," Tiger Lily assures.
"We'll be gone a little bit; you think you can handle yourself without us?" Blanca smiles.
"I think I can stay alive for a few hours," Minato smirks as Blanca giggles.
"I don't know, people can be sneaky. I mean look at me," Blanca said.
"Not really something you should brag about," Tiger Lily smirks making her blush embarrassed.
"Uh, you know what I mean. Just be careful," Blanca said.
Minato was about to answer when Luz came up the stairs.
"Coming through!" Luz said before pumping into Lily and Blanca causing all 3 girls to fall on top of Minato.
Eyes widening Minato's face turned as red as his hair seeing the three girls so close to him.
"Uh…you girls are good?" Minato said standing up.
"Yeah s-sorry about that," Luz apologizes.
"Be a little more careful next time, Luz," Blanca groans.
"Yeah, we almost crushed Minato on top of us," Tiger Lily said as Minato gulped.
"Well looks like you 3 have a lot to do. Let's get you up, up, up and ready," Minato said helping the three girls up.
Grabbing Luz he pushes her towards her room while he pushes Tiger Lily and Blanca out the door.
"Love you all," Minato said before blushing in realization. "I mean uh not like that! Uh…just good luck! Come back soon but not too soon."
Closing the door, Minato panted heavily as he put a hand to his heart.
Seeing what was going on with the 4 main residents, Hooty was beginning to realize something.
'You were right, Lulu. These three needed my help. So I devised the plan of plans.' Hooty declares.
First Hooty set his sights on King. While the young demon had his head buried in demon books he didn't notice Hooty open his mouth over him.
Minutes later, a large Owl Pellet was on the floor until King freed himself.
"Did you Owl Pellet me?!" King snaps only to see he is in a dark room.
"Are you angry, sweaty? Is there hair in places? Does your voice crack in a super embarrassing way? I have the answers you seek." Hooty's voice echoed.
Suddenly the light turns on revealing tons of Demon Charts and graphs.
"You're going through demon puberty!" Hooty declares.
"Ugh, the last thing I need from you is a Health Class." King scoffs.
"This isn't a health class, it's an unholy test, to determine what kind of demon you are." Hooty corrects getting his attention.
"Really?" King said excitedly.
"Yep. Besides, I'm pretty sure I'm the only other demon here. So, what other choice do you have?" Hooty shrugs.
"Eh, what the heck?" King shrugs playing along.
"Excellent!" Hooty said putting a
"Our ancestors arose from the muck of a decomposing titan. And there are so many of us! But all demons can be placed in three categories; bug, biped, and beast." Hooty lists.
"Yeah, everyone knows about the 3 Bs." Hooty brushes off.
"Do not interrupt!" Hooty snaps. "Now I'm pretty sure you're not a bug, but we can't rule anything out. As a type of worm myself, I'm an expert on the subject," Hooty wiggles much to King's disgust.
Putting a music shirt on King, the two prepared for the first lesson.
"Bug types naturally communicate through dance, like so." Hooty gestures as a fairy and two-faced butterfly did a small dance bringing a tear to his eyes. "Poetic."
Unsure what to do, King did a series of awkward dance moves but the two bugs had a look of horror on their face while Hooty was stunned.
"DON'T YOU TALK ABOUT MY MOTHER!" Hooty snaps attacking King.
After that little fiasco, King had ditched the shirt and had messy fur.
"Well, your dance was offensive, and your attempt to spin a cocoon was just... sad. Honestly." Hooty scolds.
"Can we just not talk about the cocoon?" King asks ashamed.
"Okay! Let's see if you're a biped demon! They walk on two legs and even have bile sacs, just like witches! So for this test, you're gonna have a duel with a little friend of mine." Hooty tips over a box revealing Tiny Nose inside who was busy playing a game.
"A scuffle, eh? All right. All right let's do it." King said ready for this. "Just don't get mad if you don't—"
The second Hooty rang the bell, Tiny Nose ditched her game.
Roaring in anger, she made a magic circle and blasted King sending smoke flying out the window.
"Wow! Heh, not a single spell. Even bug demons have some magic." Hooty said in disbelief.
"Let's just move this along," King said even more ashamed.
"Okay, okay. There's only one way to test for beast types," Hooty said as Tiny Nose came in wearing a surgical mask and holding a large comically sized needle. "I'm gonna need a blood sample,"
"I gwaduated fwom medical school!" Tiny Nose said excitedly.
However, King's screams seconds later indicated he was not a fan of this one either.
After all the tests, King was on the rooftop awaiting his results and the little guy looked like he was put through the wringer.
"After reviewing the results, we've concluded," Hooty states.
"Lay it on me. Beast, bug, biped, I don't care. I just want to know what I am!" King said eagerly.
"You…are you!" Hooty declares as confetti comes down.
"Hooway!" Tiny Nose said holding out a crumble.
"Huh?" King said confused.
"The blood tests were inconclusive. We don't really know what you are. But that's okay 'cause we don't need to know that to be your friends," Hooty states.
"I…thought you had answers," King said in a broken and frustrated tone.
"The only real answer is inside your heart," Hooty leans in but King pushes him away.
"I don't need you to tell me to love myself, Hooty. I want to know where I came from. What my dad looked like. What I'll look like when I grow up. I don't have any responses to my video yet. Or my wanted posters. Maybe my dad is gone. I can't even talk to Minato about this. At least there's a chance his dad might come back but not me. Maybe there's no one else like me. And I'll have to live my whole life without any answers," King said kicking balloons away.
"No. I didn't mean to make you mad," Hooty said crushed.
"Well, I am mad. At him, for not being here!" King said as tears ran down his eyes. "He left me ALONE!" King roars when suddenly a magic shockwave bursts from him destroying the crumble and the entire party.
Panting heavily, King looks at himself confused not expecting that.
"Oh no, now I'm sad." Hooty frowns.
"At least the cake is good," Tiny Nose points out.
"It was supposed to be a crumble!" Hooty whines slinking away.
"Hooty wait!" King called out, but Hooty was gone.
Next, Hooty set his sights on Eda.
Upstairs, Eda was walking down the hall.
"Me? Sleep? Ha! Not until I can call myself the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles once again!" Eda declares when she notices a plate of cookies nearby.
Picking them up he noticed a note.
"A reward for all your hard work, Hooty." Eda read aloud. "Hmm. Not a bad idea. I could use the fuel,"
Taking a bite of one, Eda smiles. "Man, Owl Boy can bake."
However, her smile faded when she noticed a sparkle emitting from the cookies.
"Sleeping nettles?" Eda gasped when Hooty burst through the floor.
"Yup! One bite will put you to sleep for hours!" Hooty declares.
"Sleeping nettles don't just put you to sleep, they heighten your dreams! Do you realize who you just stuck me with?" Eda states that the room around her turned dark and she heard a growling. "Hooty, don't let me fall asleep!"
"Yup! One bite will put you to sleep for hours! Hours! Hours!" Hooty echoes before collapsing revealing Eda was already dreaming.
Tightening her fist, Eda turns around.
"You know, maybe this is an opportunity. The Owl Beast is why I ran away from home. The Owl Beast is why I never got close to anyone. And the Owl Beast…" Eda lists as the beast emerges. "Is why I don't have magic,"
Growling the Owl Beast glared at her.
"Ha, you've haunted me long enough, birdbrain. I think it's time for me to haunt you," Eda said ready to rumble.
But the second she took a step towards the beast the room changed and Eda transformed into her teen self.
"Huh. Well, this is a development," Eda noted not expecting this.
"Edalyn, come downstairs please!" Her mother's voice echoed.
Leaving her room, Eda saw a young Lilith working at the table as Gwendolyn set it.
"Mother, do you like my napkin folding?" Lilith asks showing a swam-shaped napkin.
"That's nice sweet flea," Gwendolyn said not even looking. "Edalyn, help us set up, won't you?"
"Sorry, dream Mom, I don't have time for... whatever this is. I'm on a mission," Eda said walking away.
"You're going off on another search for Miguel? On the same night, your father leaves for the mandible?" Gwendolyn asks surprising her.
"Dad?" She pauses.
As the door opens, we see a man with rugged clothes, orange hair, and a beard and mustache. This was Dell Clawthrone, Eda and Lilith's father.
"Hey, pumpkin! Here to see me off?" Dell smiles.
"Dad! It's so good to see you," Eda said running to her dad and hugging him.
"I was only gone for an hour. Hey! I know I won't be home for a while, so that's why tonight…" Dell said taking out a party popper.
"Wait, I remember this," Eda gasps.
"I'll be leaving in style!" He said pulling it and a firework display went off, but the bright colors triggered something and caused the Owl Beast to appear.
Gasping Eda saw the memory of when she transformed and attacked her own family.
When it was over, Dell was groaning in pain and holding a bleeding left eye.
"Dell! Lilith! Call the Healing Coven!" Gwendolyn snaps.
"It wasn't my fault…it was yours!" Eda declares raising her first only to find herself in a new memory with Raine.
"Eda, I—Whoa! What are you doing?!" Raine said startled.
"Uh, Raine…uh nothing. Never mind," Eda laughs nervously.
"You're lying again. It's like I don't even know you. So, I've made a decision," Raine states.
Narrowing her eyes, Eda recognized this memory.
"Okay, okay. I know how this plays out. But I'll be ready this time. You hear me, birdbrain?" Eda said ready for this.
"I'm joining the Bard Coven, and…" Raine starts.
"No, no, no. Not this part." Eda cringed.
"I think we should see other people. I'm sorry, Eda. It's over," Raine declares.
Panting the young adult Eda began to change.
"Are you okay? Is this the curse?" Raine asks concerned.
"Just tell them! Let them help!" Eda urged.
"Haha! It's fine. Everything's normal. You can leave now!" Young Adult Eda urged struggling to keep it together.
Frowning Raine hated how closed off she was being. "I can't do this anymore," Raine declares before disappearing.
"Stop pushing them away!" Eda yells as the Owl Beast roars at her.
Pushing the beast away, we briefly see another memory.
This one had Eda and Miguel as adults.
"Oh sweet titan, no. Not this one!" Eda said horrified.
"Eda, I'm glad you missed me and the fact you want to try and make this work again makes me happy…but," Miguel starts.
"Lalalala!" Eda said covering her ears. "I can't hear you! This isn't happening again!"
"But what?" Adult Eda asks.
Taking a deep breath, Miguel raised his right hand and took off his glove revealing a wedding ring horrifying Adult Eda.
"I'm sorry Eda but I'm no longer Miguel Soulwing. My name…is Miguel Nakamura now," Miguel declares as Eda tears up along with her younger self.
Dropping to her knees, Adult Eda began to change.
"Eda! Calm down!" Miguel gasped seeing she was in trouble.
"Just…go! Go now!" Adult Eda chokes.
"Please, not again," Miguel said taking a defensive stance.
"No! Please! Run!" Eda yells but as Adult Eda changes Miguel disappears.
As Adult Eda changed into the Owl Beast, Eda glared it down.
"You. It was always you!" Eda declares as the beast stares her down.
Charging in, Eda grabs the Owl Beast by its fur.
"It was all your fault! Stop. Ruining. My. Life!" Pulling her head back, Eda headbutts it.
Upon impact, Eda was transformed into the Owl Beast.
As the beast stood over the cliff a net came down capturing it.
"Don't bother, beast. You can't run away anymore. It's over." Turning around, Eda saw a Mysterious figure wearing a cloak with black suns, white stars, and gray moons.
Panicking the beast saw a crescent moon in place of the figure's face as it laughed.
Struggling to escape, the beast fell into the Boiling Sea and as a result, turned into the very scroll the curse originated from.
As the scroll was taken away, Eda was sitting by the shore with a red thread tethering her to a small Owl Beast who was trying to fly away.
Struggling the beast collapsed in the sand too exhausted to keep trying.
Looking at the beast, for the first time, Eda truly pitied it. It didn't want this any more than she did.
"It's okay," Eda said approaching it.
Growling the Owl Beast was upset when Eda noticed an elixir floating nearby.
"Now I thought these were a way to fight you, but... I think they're the reason we can stand here face to face. Listen, neither of us wants to be here, but... we are, and there's no changing that. If we can't accept each other, this nightmare will never end. So, what do you say? Truce? For now?" Eda offers.
Pouring some elixir into her hand, she holds it out.
Examining her hand, the tiny creature slowly licked it out of her hand agreeing to it.
"It's like sandpaper," Eda chuckles as the Owl Beast curled up on her lap.
As the two of them finally bonded the sky began to glow. "Wow. I've never had a dream this pretty,"
When the light died down, Eda had woken up from her sleep, but she had changed.
Her form consisted of a Harpy-like version of her Owl Beast form. She had long gray wings sticking out of her back, a red spiky version of her dress, long claws, black talons, and gold eyes.
"Whoa," Eda said looking at herself in a mirror.
"Oh no! I made it worse! Worse!" Hooty panics getting the wrong idea.
"Hooty, wait. It's okay," Eda assures but Hooty left sobbing at what he thought was another failure.
Frowning, Eda turned back towards her reflection and whistled.
"Oh girl, this is a hot look," Eda smirks posing and spinning around.
Thinking Eda was another failure, Hooty set his sights on Minato and Luz.
After that little mess near the stairs, Luz ran into her room.
"Okay, little mouse. If you don't want to tell me about Philip or how he made his portal, maybe you can tell me how to choose between a cotton candy-haired goddess and a handsome hybrid?" Luz asks but the mouse gives no response.
As she was distracted, she didn't notice Hooty was listening in.
Slowly Hooty leaves the room only to see Minato was having a similar problem.
"Ugh, what is going on with me? Luz, Amity, Katara, Blanca, Tiger Lily. Whenever I'm close to any of them I turn into a mess." Minato groans lying down. "They want to help me more than anyone: help me get home, help me connect with the Soulwings, help me master my magic, help me with Dad, help me stay alive. Ugh! What is going on?! What am I supposed to do?!" Minato asks unaware Hooty is nearby.
Narrowing his eyes, Hooty needed a plan. However, since Blanca and Tiger Lily weren't available, he would need some outside help.
In Luz's room, was holding her head while lying on her sleeping bag.
"Amity's smart, cool, and classy, but Minato is fun, brave, and reliable. Ugh, which do I choose? I feel like no matter which one I choose I'm gonna ruin my relationship with the other," Luz said when she heard a knock at the door snapping her out of it.
As she opens the door Minato opens his at the same time.
"Was that you?" Both said at the same time. "No, I thought it was you. Stop doing that."
Slowly both of them smiled and chuckled.
"Guess great minds think alike," Both said with a blush.
Luz was about to respond when Minato put a finger to her lips. "Wait a second," Pointing down Minato saw a note on the floor.
Curious, he bent down and opened it.
"As we stumble through life, gloom knows no bounds. You'll only find love when you're in the ground." Minato read aloud.
"Ugh," Luz groans annoyed as Minato turns it over.
"P.S. I mean the basement." Minato read before groaning. "Hooty, I don't have time for this!"
"Me neither!" Luz calls out before pausing. "Also, we have a basement?"
"Apparently," Minato said equally surprised. "You know if go down there Hooty is going to keep annoying us, right?"
"Let's get this over with," Luz sighs in agreement.
Making their way to the basement, Luz used a light glyph to help them see down through the darkness.
"See if you can find a light switch somewhere," Minato said as they walked down the stairs.
As Luz looked around, she thought she two shadows resembling Amity and Katara.
"Amity?! Katara?!" Luz gasps.
"Where?!" Minato said startled.
Turning around they saw the shadows were just two lampshades that resembled their hairstyles with two large owl pellets lying next to them.
"Phew. My mind must be playing tricks on me." Luz chuckles nervously. "Sorry if I startled you."
"No problem. I mean let's be real why would those two be in our basement? Silly right?" Minato asks also chuckling.
"Totally silly," Luz said when they heard muffling noises.
Surprised both Amity and Katara climbed out of the owl pellets.
"Amity?!"
"Katara?!" Both said in disbelief.
"Luz? Minato?!" Amity said confused.
"Where are we?" Katara asks.
"In our basement," Luz answers with a small blush.
"You have a basement?" Amity asks.
"I know right?" Minato said also blushing.
"I think Hooty brought me here," Amity said.
"We are so sorry about this. Hooty's been acting weird all day," Luz said helping Amity up while Minato helped Katara.
"Yeah, House Demons can get like that after a couple of thousand years," Amity said.
"Well, to be fair this is Hooty. For us it's a couple times a day at least," Minato said making all the girls giggle.
"Sorry you got dragged into this," Luz apologizes.
"This isn't even the weirdest place I've been dragged to," Katara said as they walked towards the stairs.
Suddenly a trapdoor opened under all of them.
Panicking Katara and Amity cling to Luz and Minato as they plummeted down and landed on a pile of pillows.
Groaning Minato and Luz were slow to sit up when suddenly a note floated down and landed on Luz's head.
"What's it say?" Minato asks afraid to know the answer.
"To make your way out, you must ask these questions of…oh no," Luz gulps.
Suddenly the lights turned on revealing a stage with 4 seats and a big sign that read MAGICAL MATCHMAKER.
"Hooty, I swear to god, if I get out of here, I am gonna rip your door off and chuck you into the Boiling Sea," Minato said horrified.
"What is this?" Amity asks as Hooty takes a mic and his voice echoes through the room.
"Attention, the first question goes to…Luz," Hooty declares.
"Me?" Luz pauses not liking this.
"Tell me, how does being around Amity make you feel?" Hooty asks as Luz and Amity turn bright red.
"Uh well, I mean," Luz said nervously.
She wanted to run and hide so much but this was the only way to get out.
"I guess…being around Amity makes me happy. I enjoy her company and she's someone I know I can depend on and when she's around I want it to be for as long as possible," Luz said.
"Wow, uh thanks, Luz. I didn't know I made you feel that way," Amity smiles softly stroking her hair.
'Oh god, I can't believe I just said that in front of Amity and Minato!' Luz internally panics.
"Next question is for Minato," Hooty declares.
Gulping Minato was not ready for this.
"What part of Katara do you love the most?" Hooty asks as Katara freezes up.
"You don't have to answer that if you don't want to," Katara said trying to brush it off.
"No answer, no exit," Hooty states.
Groaning Minato took a deep breath. "I guess what I enjoy most about Katara is how I always know she has my back. She's the best Powerball Partner, classmate, tutor, and so many other things wrapped into one. She helps keep me driven and supports me. And I'm glad I can always count on her," Minato said making Katara blush.
"Luz, what's the best memory you have with Minato?" Hooty asks making both of them blush.
"I-I can't answer that. I have so many amazing memories with Minato. From the day we met to today. Every day having Minato in my life is amazing. I can't possibly choose one," Luz admits.
"Wow," Minato said not expecting that when Hooty turned his attention to him.
"Minato. If Amity was in a life-or-death situation, what would you do?" Hooty asks.
"I mean not that Amity would need it, but I would drop everything to help her. I wouldn't care if I had to take on her mom or even Belos for her. But Amity's tough, I know she can take care of herself," Minato said making her giggle.
"I've had some help getting this strong," Amity blushes.
"Final question. Minato. What quality about Luz do you like the most?" Hooty asks.
As the two childhood friends locked eyes, Minato paused to think but stopped.
"I'm sorry I can't answer that," Minato admits surprising everyone, especially Luz. "There's so much about Luz to like. You can't pick just one,"
"He's not wrong," Amity admits surprising her. "You have a lot of stuff qualities that people love."
Blushing Luz didn't expect Amity to join in like that but she didn't hate it.
"And the matchmaking results are in. The one most suited to Luz and Minato are…" Hooty said as images of Luz and Minato appeared over them with two hearts.
"All!" Hooty declares as Luz's heart had her, Minato, and Amity inside while Minato's heart had him, Luz, Amity, and Katara.
"Wait, what is this?" Katara asks.
"Are you two?" Amity starts.
Panicking Luz took out a fire glyph while Minato created a Rasengan.
"Nothing to see here!" Luz said as they both threw them to destroy the hearts but when they collided the two attacks created an explosion that destroyed the whole matchmaking setup.
"That was…I have no words to describe this," Minato said covering his face with his scarf.
"I do. It was a nightmare," Luz said.
"Yeah, it kinda was," Amity admits.
"I didn't realize being around us was so bad," Katara said.
"No that's not what we meant," Luz panics.
"We'll just leave you guys and head home," Katara said.
"Girls wait, please! We didn't plan this!" Minato said.
"Yeah, it was all Hooty's stupid idea," Luz calls out.
"Yeah…this was stupid." Amity chokes. "I mean come on. All of us, in a relationship together? That's stupid right?" Amity said wiping a tear.
"Despite all the craziness, being in a relationship like that is definitely one of the stupidest things I've seen," Katara frowns.
Eyes widening Minato and Luz saw the two of them had considered it and the fact that they said no made it horrifying.
But before they could react, Hooty beat them to the punch.
"No! I did it again!" Sobbing Hooty retreats to the front door. "I can't help anyone!"
Pulling against the door, Hooty tried forcibly freeing himself from it. "Out! Out, vile owl! Rid this house of thyself!"
As he pulled against the door the entire house shook. From his tower, King looked down.
"Hooty! Calm down, you ding-dong!" King calls out.
"Never shall I curse this home with my odious presence again!" Hooty declares pulling resulting in the tower shaking.
"Whoa!" Struggling to hang on, King dangles over the edge.
"Looks like I have to do this... the hard way." Hooty declares.
Quickly turning his head, King avoids seeing Hooty detach himself and burrow underground.
Inside the house, Eda still in her Harpy Form was maneuvering through the halls.
"Thank goodness Tiger Lily and Blanca are safe and away," Eda said before noticing King dangling out the window.
Losing his grip, King plummeted to the ground only for Eda to swoop in and catch him.
"Eda?" King said surprised.
"Don't worry. I think it's a good thing! But where are Luz and Minato?" Eda asks.
Climbing out through a cellar door, Minato holds it open as the 4 teens escape the basement.
"What is going on?" Katara asks.
"I don't know, but things always get weird when Hooty's upset," Luz points out.
"Just stay close to us," Minato warns.
As the ground under them shook violently the 4 of them were unaware of a flying piece of debris.
"Luz! Minato! Look out!" King yells as the piece falls towards them.
Gasping Minato and Luz hug Amity and Katara close.
"No!" King roars and the magical shockwave destroys the debris causing the area to glow around them.
"Did you do that?" Eda asks surprised.
"I-I think I did," King said equally surprised before cheering. "I think I got a power!"
Flying down, Eda lands next to them.
"Are you kids, okay?" Eda asks.
"Whoa. Not as okay as you. Dang, girl. I have a few questions for later." Luz said impressed.
"Seriously, talk about an upgrade." Minato whistles impressed when Hooty bursts out of the ground sobbing.
"I failed you all! I failed you all!" Hooty sobs.
"No, no, no, Hooty. You actually weirdly helped me. I'm like a harpy woman now," Eda reassures.
"And I can explode things with my voice powers!" King adds proudly.
"But I failed Luz and Minato!" Hooty sobs.
"Kids, what was Hooty trying to do?" Eda asks curious.
"Quick! Pretend he helped you before he destroys everything," King urged.
Sweating bullets both teens gesture for Eda to lean.
Using her wing, Eda made it so it was just a private conversation.
"Hooty…wanted to set us up. Me with Minato and Amity," Luz starts.
"And me with Luz, Amity, and Katara," Minato finishes.
"Whoa? All of you? Dang not bad," Eda teases.
"Eda, this is serious. I mean all of us together?" Minato asks.
"Do you want to?" Eda asks.
Blushing Minato and Luz glanced at each other and then at Amity and Katara.
"Then do it," Eda urged.
"Yeah but…" Minato starts.
"What? Are you kids telling me you don't like each other that way?" Eda asks.
"No!" Both said at the same time before glancing at each other.
"Wait, Minato do you like like me? Like as more than just a best friend." Luz asks.
Struggling Minato took a deep breath realizing he had to do it.
"Of course, I like you that way!" Minato confesses. "Luz, you've been by my side longer than anyone. You were the perfect best friend and I didn't want to risk losing that if something went wrong,"
"Me too. You've always had my back and I've always had yours. We're such a perfect team and I didn't want to lose that," Luz confesses making him smile.
"Guess great minds…." Minato starts.
"Think alike," Luz finishes.
As the two hug, they look into each other's eyes.
"Be honest do you want to go out with Amity?" Minato asks.
"Mmm kinda. I mean, she is pretty cute. And I've known you've had a crush on Katara for a while now," Luz teases.
"My best friend is Bi. Wow," Minato said.
"You don't mind?" Luz asks.
"Luz, you've always been full of surprises but like all of them, they're just what makes you, you. Nothing will change the way I look at you. Not even this," Minato declares making her smile.
"Well then, seems like you two have some stuff you need to sort out," Eda smiles gesturing to the others.
"Now? During this?" Luz asks gesturing to Hooty sobbing on the floor as he tore up the ground.
"Okay, I hear ya. I might be able to help. It's not perfect but what is?" Eda shrugs. "Good luck kids,"
Spreading her wings. Eda swoops in and grabs Hooty but as she yanks him out of the ground it breaks under the teens causing them to briefly fall into the hole.
"Oh my gosh, are you two okay?" Luz asks.
"I'm fine," Amity assures.
"I've handled worse," Katara said as they all stood up.
"Look I know we've been acting weird and I'm sorry," Minato said.
"Believe us," Luz said.
"Minato, do you guys have something you want to say?" Katara asks.
"I was just... I've been wanting to ask you something for a while. But I wanted to do it in the best way. And then the Magical Matchmaking happened."
"I guess I didn't want you girls to think we were desperate and crazy," Minato said.
"I never thought that about either of you," Amity blushes. "You two are some of the coolest people I've met."
"What? But no one is cooler than you Amity," Luz said before blushing realizing what she said.
"I'm not as cool as you think," Amity said embarrassed. "I have dorky dreams at times. And they involve the two of you,"
Hearing this Minato and Luz froze not expecting this.
"I guess if we're all being honest. Normally I'm not one to just rush into danger, but the more I'm around you, I don't mind it. I love the rush of Powerball game, I love learning about the Boiling Isles, I love going on crazy adventures and fighting monsters…and I love being around you, Minato," Katara blushes.
Hearing what the two girls thought, Luz and Minato realized it was now or never,"
"Everything in my life is crazy and I have no idea what my future holds, but when I'm with you girls…I don't feel as scared. So would you like to go out sometime?" Minato asks.
"Okay. Amity Blight, do you wanna go out with me?" Luz asks making her smile.
"Yes." Amity smiles.
"And maybe some other time, you and I could," Luz said looking at Minato.
Minato was about to answer when Katara moved in.
"After he goes on a date with me," Katara smiles grabbing his arm first.
"Hey, what about me?" Luz asks.
"You already have a date set up," Katara said as the 4 of them smiled and laughed.
Up in the sky, Hooty was now crying tears of joy while Eda held him and King watching them.
"Dang Hooty, you really are something," Eda smiles as it turns out the crater was in the shape of a heart.
Flashback End:
Zooming out, Hooty was typing his letter to Lilith.
"King may not know where he came from, but he's learning more and more about himself every day. Eda can become Harpy Eda now! She still drinks her elixir, but she's accepted the Owl Beast as part of her. It's progress. And Luz and Minato's new relationships are interesting. They've definitely been a help in trying to get information from that old human's diary. They're adorable, and deserve all the happiness! I still think Minato likes Blanca and Tiger Lily as well, but I guess they'll have to discover that on their own. I'd help them too, but I had to promise never to help anyone ever again, but nevertheless, I'm a genius!" Hooty said finishing his letter.
Bringing it to the mailbox, Hooty puts it inside.
"Everything solved! No more mysteries!" Hooty declares as a shadow approaches him.
"I beg your pardon," A deep voice calls out.
Looking up, Hooty saw an elderly demon with a skull shaped like King's and wearing old robes.
"Would you see this finds its way to King Clawthorne?" He asks placing a black letter on a rock next to Hooty before walking away.
Looking at the letter, Hooty gasped as a bug crawled across it.
"Oh my gosh! A bug!" Hooty said eating the bug and the letter as well. "Whoopsie, hope that was junk mail," Hooty said unaware of who that was and what he just ate.
