When I came to, I let out a low groan of pain as I opened up my eyes. I saw that I was in a wooden village that was on fire. Everywhere around me was fire. I could smell and taste the soot and ash. I tried to stand up on my feet, but I was too weak. I began to crawl toward the woods where the fire was not there. I glanced at my hands and torso, I was wearing some sort of wool shirt and a leather outer coat.

I slowly climbed up to my feet and stumbled to the edge of the forest as I watched the village burn down. I heard a wail of pain coming from a house in the blazing village. I groaned as I forced myself to stand. I slowly began to quickly stumble toward the screams of pain.

With every step I took, I felt like I was getting stronger… or more used to this body.

Eventually, I made it to where I heard the wails coming from, but I saw nothing. I glared and looked around as I smelt the scent of burnt flesh and charred meat.

I walked around the flaming village. Listening for any survivors.

I heard a noise, and I rushed toward it.

I saw some stone rubble shifting and moving. I climbed up the embankment and began to dig and move smaller rocks and stones.

Eventually, a very large red, headed and red-beared man climbed out of the rubble.

He coughed and grunted as he stumbled out of the pit that he was in.

I asked him, "Any other survivors?" Though deep down, I knew the answer.

The giant of a man shook his head, coughing slightly, and then said, "No, lad, I am the only one."

I gave him a single nod of my head as I gazed around at the blaze around us.

The giant of a man asked me, "What is your name, lad?"

I said softly, "Ju-Long Ryoto."

He crouched down and said, "My name is Stoick the Vast."

My eyes widened slightly as I realized where I had seen him from.

He asked, "Do you have a way off of the island?"

I shrugged and said softly, "Maybe there are some ships somewhere around the island…."

Stoick sighed softly and said, "I will take that as a no."

I sighed and said softly, "We will have nails once the fires cool, and we have a forest where we can build a boat, and there are animals in the forest where we can use their hides as material for a sail."

Stoick nodded his head and said, "Aye, that may work." He looked down at me and asked, "How old are you, lad?"

"Five or six winters," I said softly.

He stroked his beard and said, "Hmm, I have a son a winter younger than you." Stoick shook his head once and then said, "Okay, let's get some water and food, then we can plan a way to get out of here."

I nodded my head once as I yawned softly. I felt tired, but I knew that I needed to be alert, though I did not sense any direct danger.

Stoick looked down at me and said, "Rest, lad. I will carry you to the stream."

I frowned and shook my head, and said, "I am fine, Sir."

He gave me a blank look that said to me, prove it.

I began to walk toward where I had heard the sound of rushing water.

After a short while, I lead the way to the stream that I heard.

Stoick's heavy steps trailed behind me as he walked.

After we made it to the creek, I crouched down and, cupped some water in my hands and then brought it up to my lips to drink. I was not too thirsty, but I knew that water was necessary and vital for me.

Stoick laid on his stomach and drank the water that way, his beard soaking some water. After a couple of minutes, he stood up, then wiped his lips with the back of his hand and wrung his beard out with his large hands.

He nodded his head once and said, "That quenched the thirst. Now we need to rest. It will be too dark to do anything once the fires burn out. We will begin once the sun rises."

I nodded my head in understanding, though I had night vision… or I should have it anyway. I asked, "Are you sure that it will be safe to sleep out in the open, Sir?"

Stoick stroked his wet beard in thought before saying after a short while, "Aye, I think it will be safe for the night."

I nodded my head in agreement and said, "Very well."

I yawned again and, leaned my back against a large tree and pulled some leaves and branches over my legs and lower body.

Stoick looked at me with an appraising look in his eyes before he said, "I will watch over us."

I said softly, "But, Stoick, Sir, you will need to be at full strength if we want to leave the island alive… or at all."

Stoick sighed softly and said, "If one of us does not stay awake, then we may become in danger."

I nodded my head, though I had a hunch that we would be safe, or at the very least, I would be able to sense the danger.

I decided to cut my losses and said softly, "Good night, Stoick."

"Night, lad." That was the last thing I heard before I drifted off to sleep.

When I woke up, it was the crack of dawn; the sky was still dark, but the sky in the East was lightening up. I yawned softly and stretched out my back as I woke up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes.

Stoick the Vast was nearby, waiting for me to wake.

He gave me a tired smile and said, "Time to get to work, lad."

I nodded my head once and asked him, "What can I do to help?"

He paused and thought about it for a while before saying to me, "You can start by cutting down some trees at their base."

"Yes, sir, I think I can do that," I replied… I then asked, "Do we have any tools?"

He sighed and said as he said, "Come along, lad, we will look through the rubble."

When we finished building the small ship, we set sail towards Berk… his home.

The wind and sea were in our favor as we sailed. I subtly used my powers to keep dragons away from our small ship, not wanting to deal with them at the moment.

We used tanned boar fur and skin for sails and boar jerky for food and for fish bait.

It took several weeks at sea to make it to an island that was habited by allies to Berk and friends of Stoick.

We traded our small ship, furs, and a couple of other things for a proper ship.

The good news? We were on our way to Berk.

The bad news? We were a few more weeks away from Berk.

When we finally arrived at Berk.

Stoick stood tall and proud. I all but hid in a shadow. Nobody noticed me, almost nobody… a boy with brown hair and green eyes noticed me. He was skinny as he asked, "Father, who is that?"

'Ah, that must be Hiccup,' I thought to myself.

Stoick said, "This is the only other survivor of the Thing."

I stepped out of the shadow of Stoick and smiled at Hiccup. I waved at him and said, "I am Ju-Long Ryoto."

"Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third." He replied to me.

I thought to myself, 'That certainly is a mouthful.'

Stoick said, "Why don't you two play?"

Hiccup nodded his head and said, "Okay!" He then proceeded to pull me by the arm towards the village.

I allowed him to pull me along.
