A New Year

Four days after Christmas, the SHIELD communication that Tony was monitoring exploded with activity; initially Tony didn't know what it was about, but it was something big that happened; as he prepares for the new year with his family and friends; Tony slowly manages to filter through this wave of communication to find out what's going on; a few months ago, during Operation Clean Plates, there was a robbery at IMA (Advanced Mechanical Ideas); at the time Tony manufactured his armor and is developing it; having new ideas to apply to his project, IMA has an experimental project for a flexible, adaptable metal suit that gives extra strength to the user; it was stolen and given the danger that this suit represents; SHIELD sent Natasha Romanoff to investigate the case and she was in it playing tag with the thief who always managed to escape her; always managed to surpass her technique and always stay one step ahead of Black Widow and that in itself is already a feat and as the thief was showing off her feats against Black Widow on the internet to various criminal organizations and independent criminals, she was shaking Black Widow's reputation in the world of espionage.

Tony saw some of these videos; he had already learned that reputation in this world of espionage is everything; especially for those with famous names, but the truth is that not being known or famous is the most important part of espionage and Natasha Romanoff would have to deal with that; the famous Black Widow was losing her reputation; they had finally discovered the identity of the thief; Melina Vostokoff; according to the history that Shield has and that Tony researched; second place in all the assignments given by the Red Room, only behind Natasha Romanoff; tired, she betrayed the Red Room by deserting and stealing a vial of the Infinity Formula that Tony had researched about her; a flexible metal suit is already bad, it is even worse that this suit is used by a Red Room creation and Natasha had trouble defeating the Iron Lady as she called herself; it was only close to New Year's that she managed to do so; the Iron Lady was killed; her suit was destroyed and the place where the Black Widow faced her was destroyed in a huge explosion.

The new year came with the joy of Tony being with his family and friends and in this first month of the new year, he began to plan and build the Mark V, more than time to think about plates that connect and intertwine to form the armor; this is the beginning of his project to dress the armor in retractable plates that fit together, in this case, the Mark V; the Soccer Ball; it can be compressed into the shape of a briefcase, having a lower weight, less armor, he brought titanium, but, in a smaller proportion, he made the carbon composite as the largest composition of the armor; as a way to compensate for the low armor, but, the life support and the anti-impact gel remained in the same form as in the other armors, but, only the repulsors as a weapon and this armor can only be used in case of emergency; It is with this armor that Tony begins his studies for the next evolution of the armor, he continues his studies of the new element and prepares to patent it and thus begin to publish works and study it as the next scientific evolution; Tony had some ideas for what to do with this new element; new projects; especially old projects of his father that he was unable to get off the ground.

Tony started with the engines, nothing would work if he didn't test the element as fuel for engines that would certainly be revolutionary; he also wanted to transmute the element into metal to work with it in his armor and in other areas, but, as fuel to create clean energy and non-polluting fuel for means of transportation would be his first step with the element; his studies were in the beginning, but, they already showed promise of great work; Tony was focused on doing the best with this new element and analyzing it to publish a work with it and patent it, but, even with this work focused on Starkium and, in addition, starting to design the Mark VI; he still had the ability to multitask and was doing other things too, besides spending time with his family and carrying out missions as Iron Man. Tony put on the armor, at the end of January, he was going on a mission; activating the repulsors of the boots, Tony took off across the skies of the United States towards the Middle East; traveling fast, Rhodes in the War Machine suit approached:

- A good morning for flying! – said Tony:

- Like any other morning! – said Rhodes – Ready for the mission?

- As always! – Tony replied – Let's destroy some of my weapons!

- With pleasure! - said Rhodes - And the bonus is to come and blow up the Ten Rings!

- That's my boy! - Tony said and both Iron Man and War Machine advanced to the next target, Afghanistan, near the border with Iran; a Ten Rings fortress with a large weapons and ammunition depot, but also a soldier training site with strong anti-aircraft defenses and high walls, but they weren't counting on two heavily armored and armed armors to attack:

- Jarvis, give me an image of the target! – said Tony:

- Generating image now! – said Jarvis and in the bottom corner of the screen an image of the Ten Rings complex appeared:

- Show your defenses! – said Tony:

- Four points with machine guns; caliber .50, three self-propelled systems of Russian origin containing medium-range missiles; men on the roofs carrying the SI-80s from Stark Industries! – said Jarvis:

- Damn it Obie! – said Tony knowing the capabilities of the personal anti-aircraft defense system that his company manufactures; they were approaching the place and preparing to fight them – Jarvis, get ready to confuse the SI-80's targeting systems!

- Getting ready sir – said Jarvis.

They arrived and could already see the complex in the distance and the satellite images were showing that they had already been detected; he knew he would have to install camouflage panels on the next versions of the armor; Tony and Rhodes separated to cover ground to eliminate the defenses as quickly as possible; missiles from the self-propelled vehicles were launched and Tony printed the evasion mode running away from the missiles; Rhodes was doing the same:

- Do you have missiles on your tail? – asked Rhodes:

- Yes! – Tony replied – And you?

- Yes! – Rhodes replied:

- Let's go for a walk! – said Tony:

- I knew you would say that! – said Rhodes.

Tony descended quickly and maneuvered at the last moment to stay parallel to the ground, being followed by the missiles. Two hit the ground and exploded. Tony was swallowed by the explosion and left, being followed by two more missiles, and then launching flares, exploding the other two missiles. Tony climbed and returned to the base. Rhodes had also eliminated the missiles that followed him. Tony locked on high and launched a missile from his back that traveled quickly, hitting one of the three missile artillery cars and the other two, being hit by the missiles on Rhodes' shoulders, causing a huge explosion. Tony advanced using the repulsor and destroying the machine gun nest, but the SI-80s were fired, but, confused, they ended up exploding themselves. Rhodes reacted by opening the compartment of the small missiles in his arms and firing them all, blowing up the roof, killing several terrorists and thus eliminating the defenses:

- Defenses down! – said Tony:

- Not fully confirmed yet! – said Rhodes – Let's go down and face those who are left; there is certainly still something hidden and waiting for us!

- Party pooper! – said Tony:

- Tony! I've said it over and over again that this is not a walk in the park! – said Rhodes:

- I completely understand! – said Tony. They approached to be greeted with bullets from the Ten Rings terrorists:

- They're on the wall! – said Rhodes:

- You know what to do! – said Tony.

Rhodes activated the machine gun on his shoulder and fired, hitting several terrorists and the wall, making a circular movement, hitting the entire wall; while Tony came behind, knocking down the one who escaped with the repulsors and throwing him off the wall; Rhodes collected the machine gun and landed in the courtyard, followed by Tony; with the machine guns on his gauntlets, he began to fire, hitting several terrorists, with Tony at his back doing the same with his repulsors; Tony fired with one hand at a time, hitting several terrorists who were coming towards them; the sensors warned of something:

- Rhodes, grenade! – said Tony:

- I saw it! - said Rhodes, quickly ducking and throwing the grenade away, exploding on the other side of the complex; Tony took advantage of his friend ducking and extended one hand, firing the repulsor, hitting a terrorist in the chest and then with both hands, hitting another terrorist who was going to throw a grenade and it exploded behind the fallen terrorist; the terrorists in the courtyard were dead or injured so as not to react, but the sensors still captured a living presence inside the base and then, walking side by side and reaching the gate, they raised their hands and fired their repulsors, blowing up the door and entering; they were greeted with gunshots and screams from the terrorists:

- You know what to do Tony! – said Rhodes:

- Let's finish this! - Tony said; both went on opposite sides, Tony firing the repulsors at the terrorists he was facing; he fired with one hand, knocking down another one, he fired another, going through the wall and hitting another terrorist; he raised both hands, firing the repulsors, hitting two terrorists who were screaming and firing their weapons at him; a grenade fell at his feet and exploded, but that didn't affect Tony, who returned it by firing a repulsor, hitting the guy who had thrown the grenade. He fell to the ground dead and Tony continued entering a corridor and the sensors indicating hidden terrorists. They came out of their hiding places shooting at Tony, but their surprise was revealed when they assembled a .50 caliber and fired, hitting Tony, who fell backwards from the force of the impact; Tony got on his knees and fired both repulsors, exploding the machine gun and activated the repulsors in his boot and advanced at speed, turning it off and sliding on the ground, stopping behind the two hidden terrorists:

- Hi! - Tony said firing the repulsor from both hands hitting the two terrorists, it was too late when a terrorist shouted for Allah and Tony turned and saw him wearing a vest full of bombs and pressing the detonator before Tony could react and then explode, the force of the explosion threw Tony back into the hallway hitting the wall causing a hole in the ceiling and shaking the entire structure; Tony was dizzy:

- Tony! – said Rhodes and the sound of gunshots could be heard in the background – Tony! Are you okay?

- Yes, I'm fine! – Tony replied, standing up and leaning against the wall:

- What was that? – asked James:

- A bomb man! – replied Tony, managing to stand up without support:

- Sons of bitches! – said Rhodes:

- I think they still have more surprises for us; Bicudo! – said Tony:

- You're right! - said Rhodes - Let's deal with them! Are you really okay Tony?

- Yes! – Tony replied – I should have expected this kind of tactic from the Ten Rings!

Tony continued through the base and incredibly found no more surprises from the Ten Rings and then following the satellite mapping, he arrived at the server room; it was clear to see that it had been reinforced to resist missiles; a bunker protects these computers, but the surprise lies in the fact that there was no one erasing the data, there was no one burning documents or destroying the hardware, they were just turned on and ready to be used:

- Jarvis scan! – Tony said in alert mode, expecting some trap:

- Nothing found Sir, should I connect to the computers? – asked Jarvis:

- Yes! – Tony replied – With caution, be prepared for any nasty viruses!

Tony put a USB stick in one of the computers:

- Accessing the satellite network! - Jarvis said and the screen quickly began to show several images and scanned documents - No viruses found, copying the files and then downloading them to Stark Industries servers!

- How's it going there, Rhodes? – asked Tony:

- It's over! - Rhodes replied - No enemy, calling the cavalry to enter! And you?

- Finished, let's wait for our allies to arrive! – replied Tony

Allied soldiers arrived at the base and took over, they would do the procedure and then leave, leaving nothing important behind; Tony and Rhodes stayed to ensure security and then returned home for reporting and repairs; upon arriving home, Tony rested, prepared the report of what he did and what he found, and the next morning, rested, he began to look at the files that Jarvis had copied; he was looking at the projection analyzing some files, he was sure that the FBI and the CIA and other agencies would see these files as old and outdated and useless and that is why they were left there for them to access without problems, a hollow victory. Tony cursed the Ten Rings and was about to delete these files forever when he found an image, it is enough to catch his attention; a scan of an old image; a city in the clouds where the sun shines brightly surrounded by dragons with ten figures falling from the city into the darkness followed by ten shiny objects falling far from the figures to which next to it was the symbol of the Ten Rings group without the scimitars that Tony would never get out of his head; Tony zoomed in on the edge of the city where there was a figure with a shiny fist; he identified writings on the edge of the engraving:

- Jarvis, translation, please! – said Tony:

- Searching database for translation! – said Jarvis – Language not identified!

- Ancient language! – said Tony – Keep looking!

- Deepening the research; looking for languages considered dead! – said Jarvis – Text in ancient Tibetan!

- A dead language! – said Tony:

- Correct, sir! – said Jarvis:

- Start generating calculations to translate this text from Ancient Tibetan into our language! – said Tony:

- Sir, I have no idea how long it will take to get this text translated! – said Jarvis:

- Use the linguists' research to speed up the process Jarvis! – said Tony:

- Starting work sir! – said Jarvis:

- Take your time! – said Tony – This will give me time to think!

- About what, sir? – asked Jarvis:

- About this artifact and if there are more of them! – Tony replied.

The month of February continued with Tony working on several projects, as the translation of the engraving found at the base of the Ten Rings took a back seat along with the research of several relics similar to the ten rings that could be considered dangerous; Tony was focused on the moment, work and family; Mark VI was being designed to withstand heavy blows, more than most and Tony wanted to make sure it was ready; at the moment the Mark IV would be used for work; running around the world and ensuring world peace, resolving some conflicts and hunting terrorist groups leaving nothing behind to be used by them; putting fear in anyone who wants to enlist in these groups; his work was going well; Tony is mainly focused on a project for the air force, an aerial aircraft carrier; a helicarrier in the same mold that SHIELD uses to be used by the American Air Force; he was also designing a quinjet that SHIELD also uses to be used by the air force to be a replacement for the V-22 Osprey or a second option; is also working on space-related projects, when the Chitauri Invasion happened, Tony wanted to provide means for Earth's defense.

It was while working on his various projects that Tony concentrated on having his attention drawn to a fact:

- Sir! – said Jarvis:

- Yes! – said Tony:

- I have finished translating the engraving you acquired from the Ten Rings group! – said Jarvis:

- You did it! – Tony said:

- After much research, I have developed a program to translate Old Tibetan, as well as being able to be modified to translate other languages considered dead! – said Jarvis:

- Very good, J; show us what you got! – said Tony. Jarvis placed the projected screen in front of Tony:

- I believe that a visual aid can help better explain what this parchment engraving is about! – said Jarvis – "There was a time when there were dragons, powerful, divine, beautiful and kind beings and they created a city; K'un Lun; a city where there was light, peace, harmony and happiness and to protect the city from those who wanted to harm it, the dragons created ten rings of great power"!

Jarvis zoomed in on the image, focusing on the right side where there was an engraving of a sun with an illuminated city with dragons in the sky and the symbol of the ten rings, but without the scimitar:

- "The dragons gave these ten rings to a guardian who swore with his life to guard and protect K'un Lun, but over time the power corrupted the guardian and with his most loyal and ambitious followers they wanted to take the city for themselves along with the power of the dragons; so the dragons chose someone to challenge them; giving power to this challenger, he became the Iron Fist"! – said Jarvis; there was an engraving of a person on the edge of the city with his fist glowing and ten people falling from the city along with the ten rings – "The Iron Fist became the new guardian of K'un Lun expelling the traitors never to return and the rings were lost during the fight, but knowing that they were no longer in the possession of the traitors"!

The engraving below shows the ten traitors looking up at the city:

- "The traitors wish to return to the city, but without the rings, they will never succeed; they separate and build empires through fear and crime and they know that whoever reunites the rings will become not only the ruler of the city, but will dominate the world!" – said Jarvis and showed in another engraving at the bottom of the parchment several people on a battlefield with a person with ten rings floating around and above everyone in the battle:

- Is that all? – asked Tony:

- Yes sir, the text has been translated! – replied Jarvis:

- Why did the Ten Rings want me focused on this engraving? – asked Tony:

- They might give the impression that the leader of the group has the ten rings! – Jarvis replied:

- And because of that, he thinks he has the right to rule the world? – asked Tony:

- No sir! – replied Jarvis – But, they also give the impression that they are more dangerous than you believe them to be!

Tony is silent for a while in thought:

- Start researching everything about K'un Lun and the ten rings including the group; the legend and the group are related! – said Tony – It looks like we'll have Indiana Jones activities!

- Right now sir! – said Jarvis.

It was the next day that Tony got a response from Jarvis about the research, two digitized parchment engravings that according to Jarvis when translating the writings, one was related to the other, the first engraving is quite similar to the first one he had obtained in the attack on the Ten Rings base; the city of K'un Lun with the Iron Fist on the edge of the city and five figures falling into the darkness:

- Jarvis, translation! – said Tony:

- "The protection of the Iron Fist ensured the safety of K'un Lun for generations, but even the most peaceful, most prosperous city could not overcome human ambition; the Traitor's five most loyal sought the immortality of the dragons, but they failed and were expelled by the Iron Fist"! – said Jarvis who was now focusing on the image at the bottom of the scroll – "These five loyal sought the immortality of the heretical dragons; those who, like the Traitor, were corrupted by absolute power; these five founded Yami No Te"!

- Yami No Te? – asked Tony:

- Searching the database all over the world! – said Jarvis – Better known as Hand, there are several reports indicating their existence, but there is no evidence to be believed; documents that reveal the possibility of them being linked to all types of crimes!

- File everything about them, I want to be ready if they show up! – Tony said:

- Done sir! – said Jarvis:

- The other engraving? – asked Tony:

- From the translation, it refers to a ritual in which the power of the Iron Fist can be transferred! - Jarvis replied - It also indicates what to use!

- Okay! Find whoever owned these original scrolls and see if you can buy them. Let's organize a space to store them! - said Tony:

- Aren't you going to use the safe where you keep the paintings that Mrs. Stark buys? - asked Jarvis:

- No! I want another space! – Tony replied:

- Searching among the properties owned by you! - said Jarvis - One property fits what you want, sir; a bunker in the state of Utah that your father built to house his dangerous experiments that you transferred to Alaska and that now houses the servers for my backups!

- Ah! Yes! – said Tony – A place prepared to receive these artifacts, very good Jarvis; we have the chosen one!

Tony snapped his fingers looking at the data:

- Is there anything else related to the research on the ten rings? – asked Tony:

- Only that some data indicate that Genghis Khan obtained the ten rings in the Valley of Spirits, in China! – replied Jarvis:

- Then it's time to visit the Valley of Spirits! – said Tony:

- Sir; I must remind you that China does not treat very well those who invade its territory! – said Jarvis:

- I'm aware Jarvis, but I've upgraded the Mark IV with deflector panels that will camouflage me against Chinese surveillance! - said Tony - Mark the Valley of Spirits on the map and keep a satellite focused on the location!

- Done sir! - said Jarvis and Tony entered the base, starting to put on the armor and when it was complete, he closed his helmet and took off towards China; crossing the Pacific Ocean, avoiding the radars that were pointed at his visor; using the satellite to map the region:

- Satellite pointing to the region, sir! – said Jarvis – I believe we have a short window of time before the Chinese satellites discover us!

- Let's use this time and make the most of it! – said Tony:

- The region has been poorly mapped due to the almost constant cloud cover over the region! – said Jarvis – Recently, China has been more committed to mapping and exploring the region!

- They're interested in the place! – said Tony – That means there are relics there!

Using the deflectors, Tony enters Chinese airspace and so far has managed to go unnoticed, but, as Jarvis had stated, he wouldn't have much time; note: thinking about a stealth armor project; Tony was approaching the region:

- What's the weather like in the Jarvis region? – Tony asked:

- Cloudy with dark clouds, I will still be able to continue communication in this weather sir, but if you enter a cave, you will be alone! - warned Jarvis:

- Understood! - Tony said landing on his three-pointed signature; standing up, he walked analyzing the rocky terrain, but he could also identify several signs of camps over the years; the passage to the valley is a huge stone opening that Tony walked past seeing the green hills, he took flight following and leaving the green hills behind where he entered an area of desert land, landing in front of an opening, not natural, built by man:

- This is a series of caves built by the present human hands, sir! – said Jarvis:

Upon entering the cave, Tony turned on the suit's head and shoulder flashlights, cautiously following the corridor. Soon he was scanning all the engravings on it; basically, they spoke of the fall of the heretics of the war of the ten rings, this time it was more detailed, even detailing each fate that the guardians suffered individually, but here there were no more engravings or writing on the wall, here, Tony was more cautious, he could guess that there was a trap:

- Scanning the place sir! - said Jarvis and Tony was looking at the wall and noticing several small holes in the ceiling and on the left wall, looking better he could see spikes embedded in the right wall and on the floor:

- This is a trap! – said Tony:

- Scan completed indicates that it is correct sir, a trap has already been triggered! - said Jarvis - Sir; I must warn you that from this point on I will be unable to communicate with you; options to prevent this problem from occurring again must be studied!

- Duly noted, Jarvis! - Tony said, walking again, and at that moment the communication with Jarvis had ended. Tony only had control of the weapons, the movement of the armor, and the aim, ready to act in case of a problem. He didn't. Walking through the tunnel, he noticed that the traps had been activated a long time ago. The most diverse traps with spears and poisoned darts; large, sharp blades and stones had been activated or destroyed. Skeletons lay along the tunnel, indicating that the Mandarin was not the first to enter this tomb. Tony walked until he entered a large hall lit by mirror systems that caught the sunlight through a tunnel in the ceiling. In the center of the hall was a statue of a dragon with ten bare claws. He knew that the ten rings were there until the Mandarin came and took them. An indication that the power of the ten rings is real and that the Mandarin is a powerful man, and Tony is incapable of facing him. The Mandarin made him come here to show that he is powerful, that he overcame all difficulties and found the power to be a god and that above all he is unstoppable.

Tony walked around the hall to see if he could find anything that could have more information about the ten rings, but then his sensors pointed to an air current that the system indicated where it came from, Tony walked there and was soon looking for something that would open that door; hoping that Mandarin hadn't found that secret door; after looking carefully and the systems indicating the size of the door and its length, he pressed the button that sank into the wall and the door opened with a dragging of stones; it was dark, but with the flashlights that Tony had activated from his suit, he entered a smaller hall than the previous one and there was a pedestal with a sword placed there, the golden handle; the sword's guard was golden in the shape of a fang and the blade was completely black as if it absorbed the light from the environment; and analyzing he saw that the walls were carved with engravings and writings in ancient Mongolian; with everything recorded, Tony carefully approached the sword and picked it up; waiting in anticipation he waited for there to be some reaction, he took the sword from the pedestal and nothing happened, sighing in relief he left the hall and seeing that there was nothing left for him, he left to return to the tunnel and to leave the tomb.

Jarvis was happy when Tony left the cave and could finally get back in touch:

- Sir, how are you going to carry the sword? – asked Jarvis:

- I can do something with the remains of the camps at the entrance to the valley and attach the armor! – Tony replied:

- Very well sir; I advise we leave this valley as quickly as possible! – said Jarvis – The Chinese government will not be pleased if they discover you on their lands!

- You're right! – said Tony, at that moment his interface display beeped – What is this?

- Power surge, sir! – Jarvis replied – It came on suddenly!

- Of course it came out of nowhere! – said Tony – Locate it!

- Locating source! – said Jarvis – In front of you!

Tony walked forward until he came face to face with a wall:

- Jarvis! – said Tony:

- Scanning analysis is underway! – said Jarvis – Hidden door behind the stone wall!

Tony raised his hand and fired a beam that exploded on the wall and it revealed a smooth wall of stone; this time Tony kept the beam continuous destroying the stone until only a smooth wall of black stone was left:

- And now how do you open it? – asked Tony:

- It seems that this stone blocks all types of scans that I can perform! - said Jarvis - But, sir, given the fact that it was hidden by a stone wall, it should be easy to open!

- You're right Jarvis! - said Tony, he approached the wall and pressed his free hand in the center and then a line divided the black stone and it separated in two opening like a door and then the air entered the open cave:

- Breathing air levels are reaching normal levels inside the cave! – said Jarvis:

- Let's see what she has! - said Tony, entering calmly, following her, the scan had not revealed any traps; following the tunnel until reaching the central chamber bathed in sunlight with an object on a pedestal in the center; a crystal; a single crystal with a point on the pedestal:

- I don't understand sir! – said Jarvis – Why go to all this trouble to hide a single crystal?

- In the possibility that this crystal is quite dangerous! – Tony replied approaching and grabbing the crystal and nothing happened – It seems that nothing happens while I grab it with the armor's glove!

- My scans analyze an energy field around the crystal; apparently the crystal reacts when it is touched! – said Jarvis:

- DNA! – Tony said:

- It's a possibility, sir! – said Jarvis.
