Here's the next chapter! It's going to be a little shorter because I want the Kokabiel fight to have its own dedicated chapter, although I will still add the epilogue. I also decided to add a few extra opponents to the fight in this chapter. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy!

After Emery had stabilized Irina's condition with her Senjutsu, Luke met up with Fumiko on their way to the future battlefield to have the swordswoman properly healed. However, Irina was still weak, and Rias told them to take her to Sona's house to recover. With that taken care of, Luke and Fumiko arrived at a park a short distance away from Kuoh Academy where Rias, Sona, Melody, Seth, and their respective peerages were, although Yuuto was nowhere to be seen. The entire student council, including Sona and Saji, was forming a large barrier around the school to keep the destruction from getting into the town.

"Rias, we've raised a barrier around the school." Saji reported as he was awkwardly standing due to the spanking he received earlier. "This should keep out most of the riffraff unless an especially powerful visitor comes by."

"This should minimize the damage, but honestly, I doubt it will hold if Kokabiel decides to get serious." Sona said. "What's worse is that he seems to be preparing to do just that. My servants have already spotted him unleashing his power at several locations around campus."

As the leaders were discussing plans, Fumiko caught something in the corner of her eye. Her attention was drawn toward Akira, and she felt there was something familiar about her, walking over to her as if her body was moving on its own. Akira noticed Fumiko walking toward her and turned her face away with an expression of shame.

"Excu-excuse me? Have… we met before?" Fumiko asked.

"Er… I…" Akira hesitated to say anything in response.

"Fumiko, there you are!" Luke came up to them with a look of relief. "I thought you might've wandered off." He then noticed Akira. "Oh, you're that girl from the other day. Why are you hiding your face?"

Akira didn't respond to Luke's query, and it seemed like it pained her to remain quiet. However, she was taken by surprise when Fumiko suddenly appeared in front of her. As soon as Fumiko saw Akira's face and the scar under her left eye, her eyes widened in shock, and she placed her hands over her mouth.

"A… Akira?" Fumiko gasped. "Is it… really you?"

"F-Fumiko, you know her, too?"

"Hey, Kazuya-chan!" Issei walked over to them. "Melody-san wants us-"

Issei stopped speaking the moment he sensed the atmosphere around the two aqua-haired girls.

"… I'm sorry, but I'm not the Akira you once knew." Akira spoke up with a strained voice. "I'll head over to Melody-sama now, Hyoudou. Let's go."

Issei seemed hesitant to just head back without asking what had happened, but since Akira didn't appear to be in a mood to chat and there was a big battle coming up, all he could do was walk side by side with her. Fumiko watched as Akira walked off, her eyes shaking and glazed. After taking a few more glances between them, Luke spoke up again.

"Fumiko… We have to survive this!" Luke declared.

"… Huh?" Fumiko then turned to Luke quizzically.

"That way, once things settle down, you and Kazuya can talk to each other again."

Fumiko just stared at Luke, still a little out of it due to the recent shock she had.

"Listen up, everyone!"

Rias proudly stood with Akeno, Melody and Seth beside her and everyone else except the Sitri peerage gathered in front of her.

"The Gremory, Morag, and Sigmund groups will be entering the barrier to combat Kokabiel!" Rias announced. "We need to hold the line for one hour until the Great Satan Lucifer's forces arrive! This battle will be one of life and death! Not a single one of you is allowed to die! We all want everyone to come out of this alive and continue going to this school!"

"If I feel like the battle is about to take a turn for the worst and someone might die, I'll have to play my trump card." Seth declared.

"We won't allow Kokabiel to start another Great War simply out of boredom! Let's show him what we're all capable of!" Melody rallied up the servants.

"Okay!" Everyone shouted in unison.

I never thought you would face a Fallen Angel from the Bible so soon after my awakening. Opheria told Luke through his mind. But we're not the only dragons he'll be facing!

All of the combatants entered the school grounds through the main gates and as soon as they stepped inside, Luke and Issei promoted to Queen to power themselves up. In the center of the schoolyard, there were four swords floating over a magic circle and emitting a brilliant light with Valper in the center of them.

"Valper, how much longer will it take to fuse the Excaliburs?"

Everyone looked upward to see Kokabiel staring down at them from a seat floating in the sky, sitting with his legs crossed.

"Less than ten minutes, Kokabiel." Valper answered.

"I see, carry on." Kokabiel then turned his attention to the Rias. "Is Sirzechs coming? Or Serafall? Perhaps Sterling?"

"We are here on their behalf! You can-"

Rias was suddenly interrupted by a sudden burst of wind that passed by them, followed by a loud explosion. They looked toward where the sound came from and saw a huge pillar of light sticking out of the ground where the gymnasium used to be.

There's nothing left of the gym! Luke thought with his eyes wide and mouth agape. Comparing Kokabiel's spear of light to Raynare's is like comparing a howitzer to a handgun!

If it comes to it, you may need to use that Balance Breaker once again.

Honestly, even with Balance Breaker I don't think I'd be strong enough to defeat him. And that's without factoring in the time limit.

"Now, how about a little game? I've brought a few pets with me from the Underworld." Kokabiel snapped his fingers.

The ground started rumbling as four creatures appeared from within the darkness. These creatures included a massive three-headed dog, a large beast that looked like a hybrid of a lion, a goat, and a snake, and a giant with the head and tail of a bull.

"Not only do we have the guard dog of the Underworld to deal with, but there's also a chimera and a minotaur." Seth said.

"We're going to have to destroy them!" Rias commanded. "Luke, I want you to support us with your Bless ability. If you see one of your allies getting flanked, cast Svallin to shield them."

"Got it, President!" Luke nodded.

"Issei, I want you to stand by and support us with your Boosted Gear's Transfer." Melody ordered. "How many times can you transfer your power?"

"As I am now, three or four times." Issei replied. "Actually, I'll pass out after the fourth, so let's go with three."

"Then we'll have to make each one count." Melody said.

"Rias, your team can take on the chimera." Seth suggested.

"My team will take on Cerberus then." Melody said.

"That leaves me and my team with the minotaur." Seth cracked his knuckles. "Let's go!"

Each group went off to their respective opponents. Seth, Annabelle, Alastair, Emery and Hana approached the minotaur.

"Hana, this is your first time in a real battle." Seth told her. "If you ever feel overwhelmed, don't hesitate to let me know and I'll pick up the slack."

"I'll be fine, Seth-san." Hana assured him. "I've been training with this power, so I won't get captured again."

Seth smiled at Hana before turning to the minotaur and his arm transforming into his Longinus World Ender. After letting out a battle cry, the minotaur started charging at them. Alastair, his body coated in steel, and Seth got in front of the minotaur and with their combined defenses managed to stop its charge. Emery and Annabelle ran to the side of the monster and the former surrounded her fist in touki and punched the minotaur in its ribs, causing internal damage to it. Annabelle made a war hammer appear in her hands, coating the head in demonic power, and with a single swing into the minotaur's ribs on the other side of its body, completely shattered them. While the minotaur keeled from the combined attacks, Seth and Alastair uppercut it upwards.

"Hana, now!" Seth called out.

"Right!"

Hana had prepared a whirlwind of thousands of cherry blossom petals around her and shot a torrent of them at the minotaur. Even with its tough skin, the sharp petals were cutting away at its flesh bit by bit.

"HYAAAAH!"

An especially dense gust of petals was shot at the minotaur's head. When the petals calmed down, the minotaur's head was completely gone, and blood leaked out from the now headless neck. Eventually, the minotaur's body fell to the ground.

"Way to go, Hana! You dealt the finishing blow!" Seth gave her a thumbs up.

"Oh, um, thank you, Seth-san." Hana became a bit sheepish, and a blush appeared on her cheeks.

Meanwhile, Melody and Misaki were using their Devil wings to dodge the fireballs being shot by the Cerberus, shooting sonic blasts and ice spears at the hellhound. Katherine used her speed to get on the Cerberus's back and jumped up to the nape of the center head's neck.

"Bad doggie!" Katherine then stabbed her rapier through its neck.

While the middle head was growling in pain, the other two heads tried to bite at Katherine, but she jumped back and avoided the pincer attack. A flash zipped past the left and right heads and their eyes were suddenly cut and bleeding. Spiral reappeared behind the Cerberus with his sword unsheathed and covered in fresh blood.

"Are you ready, Misaki?" Melody asked her Queen.

"Of course, Melody-sama."

A large icicle appeared above the Cerberus's head and Melody flew up to the top of it and delivered an axe kick to the icicle, using her Power of Sound to amplify the force of her kick, to send it crashing straight down on the Cerberus and impaling it.

"Way to go!" Issei pumped his fist.

"Issei-senpai! Asia-senpai! Watch out!" Hikaru warned them through her Omniscient Oracle.

Suddenly, Issei and Asia heard a growling sound from nearby and a second Cerberus appeared from the darkness.

"Another one?!" Issei shouted.

The second Cerberus barked before charging straight at Asia. Issei was prepared to use his Boost to power himself up in order to protect Asia, but a small figure with a large sword jumped over his head.

"I've got this."

Azusa, flaming Dyrnwyn in both hands, slashed the Cerberus in half, its wounds erupting into flames which engulfed its body and reduced it to dust.

"Thanks, Azusa-chan!" Issei said.

As those fights were happening, the Gremory team was busy fighting the chimera. The goat head was breathing flames to cancel out the long-ranged attacks from Rias and Akeno. Koneko managed to punch the lion head square in the face, but the snake tail was coming straight towards her with its fangs bared.

Bless!

A barrier formed around Koneko, and the snake tail bounced right off of it. The chimera then turned its attention to Luke and Fumiko.

"Shit!" Luke said.

The chimera started barreling towards them.

I have to keep Fumiko safe! Sorry, President, but I'm gonna have to bring out Aymr against this thing.

"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!"

Akira charged at the chimera head on, her entire body enveloped in an aura of demonic power. As she got right up to the beast, she grabbed it by its horns and tried to push it back.

"I… won't… let you hurt Fumiko!" Akira growled as she exerted all of her strength into stopping the chimera.

Fumiko then noticed the snake tail coiling for an attack and the goat head prepared to breath fire, both targeting Akira.

"Akira, get away now!" Fumiko shouted.

The snake tail lunged straight at Akira, but it was suddenly severed from the rest of the chimera's body, and it disintegrated into dust. The goat head was also sliced off and fell onto the ground. Capitalizing on the chimera reeling back from having its heads amputated, Akira thrust the lion's head into her knee and smashed its skull. She then pinned it to the ground by its face with her foot, grabbed onto one of its horns with both hands and started pulling on it. Eventually, she broke off the horn and used it to stab it straight through the lion's face.

"I thought you could use some help."

Luke and Fumiko's attention was drawn to Xenovia, who had her Excalibur unsheathed, as well as Yuuto who brandished one of his demonic swords.

"Xenovia!" Luke exclaimed. "Kiba!"

"Th-th-thank you!" Fumiko bowed in gratitude.

"All beasts like this are weak to Holy Swords." Xenovia said before plunging her Excalibur into the chimera's chest to finish it off for good, its entire body turning to dust.

Akira walked up to Xenovia and Yuuto. "Thanks."

With the battles against the beasts finished, everyone gathered up, ready to face Kokabiel.

"Fumiko, give me a power boost." Rias ordered. "Go for the injection."

"Right!"

Fumiko brought out her Supreme Aid, the fluid inside it becoming red, and injected the needle into Rias's right arm. After a few seconds, Rias could feel a strong surge of power within her body.

"Take this, Kokabiel!" Rias shot a blast of destruction at Kokabiel, much larger than anything Luke had ever seen from her before.

Kokabiel remained calm and simply held out a single hand. The attack collided with his hand, and he was able to hold it back for a few seconds before redirecting the blast up into the sky where it disappeared. After seeing some smoke rising from his hand, Kokabiel couldn't help but grin and chuckle.

"Heh, even a regular Sacred Gear can increase Rias Gremory's power to this extent. I can only imagine what a boost from the Red Dragon Emperor is capable of."

"It is complete."

The four Excaliburs in the magic circle began emitting an intensely bright light that forced everyone but Kokabiel to shield their eyes.

"Four Excaliburs have now become one." Kokabiel clapped.

When the light subsided, everyone could see that there was now only a single Excalibur in the magic circle.

"Because of the light created by the fusion of the Excaliburs, the self-destruct magic circle has been activated." Valper said. "The entire town will be destroyed in less than twenty minutes. The only way to stop it is to defeat Kokabiel."

Twenty minutes?! Lord Sirzechs's forces won't be able to make it in time!

"Freed!" Kokabiel called the Stray Exorcist.

"Yeah, Boss?" Freed responded as he came from the darkness.

"Accept the fused Excalibur." Kokabiel commanded. "You will fight using that. This will be the final piece of entertainment tonight."

"Yeah, yeah, got it. You can be a real slavedriver, ya know that?" Freed took the fused Excalibur into his hands. "Buuuut I'm so honored to use my new Exclaibur! Uweeheehee! Time to chop up some Devils!"

Xenovia walked up to Yuuto. "Knight of Rias Gremory, if we're still working together, let us destroy that Excalibur."

"Are you sure that you're fine with that?" Yuuto asked back.

Xenovia confidently smiled. "At worst, I can just recover the fragments after we've smashed them. Holy Swords are only as strong as their wielders. In Freed's hands, it's a sword of heresy. It may as well be a regular blade."

Valper started chuckling.

"Valper Galilei." Yuuto spoke calmly, but his eyes were burning with fury. "I am the sole survivor of the Holy Sword Project. No, that's not correct. I died by your hand. But I've been reborn as a Devil."

"Oh, so you survived, huh?" Valper found Yuuto's words amusing. "It's quite fateful that we've met in this faraway country. Heheheh. You see, I'm fascinated by Holy Swords. I love them so much they appear in my dreams. It might be because I was regaled the stories of Excalibur in my youth. You can imagine my despair when I discovered I didn't have the aptitude to wield a Holy Sword. Because I couldn't wield them, I admired those who could. I devoted my life to researching how to create an individual capable of using a Holy Sword. At long last, my research is complete, and I owe it all to you and your fellow test subjects."

"'Complete'? You disposed of us after we were deemed failures."

"Not quite. There was an essential Factor required to wield Holy Swords. The project was to estimate the necessary quantity of the Factor to ensure compatibility. Most of the test subjects contained the Factor, but they lacked the quantity to wield an Excalibur. That's when I came across the question 'what if there is a way to extract and combine those Factors'."

"I see. Now it all adds up." Xenovia gritted her teeth in anger. "What you put inside the Holy Sword wielders when they receive a blessing is…"

Azusa held her hand up to her heart and clenched tightly as if something pained her.

"That's right, holy swordswoman. We remove the Factor from those who possess one and crystallize them." Valper took out a shining orb with a holy aura. "With this, research on Holy Sword wielders improved by leaps and bounds. Despite the results, the Church branded me a heretic and stole my research. Simply by looking at you, I can see that it was passed onto Michael. He condemns me and this is the result? He probably isn't even killing to extract the Factor from the test subjects. But I suppose that would make him more human than me. Hmhmhmhm."

"You killed me and my comrades to take our Factors?" Yuuto growled with hatred.

"Indeed. Four orbs were made from that experiment. Three of them were used on Freed. The one in my hand is the last one."

"Hyahahahahaha!" Freed started cackling. "I was the only one compatible with it! The others weren't, so they died! Makes me a special snowflake, doesn't it!"

"… Valper Galilei." Yuuto's hands shook as his body was surrounded in demonic aura. "How many lives have you taken for your ambitions…"

"Hmm. If that's how you feel, then I will give this last crystallized Factor to you. At this stage, it is possible to mass-produce them with the right conditions. First, I will destroy this town with Kokabiel. Then I will gather all of the legendary Holy Swords around the world, mass produce Holy Sword wielders and wage war against Michael and the Vatican with the combined Exclaiburs. I will show those Angels and their followers who condemned me the results of my research."

Valper tossed the shining orb onto the ground like it was trash, and it rolled right up to Yuuto's foot. Yuuto quietly leaned down, picked up the orb and started patting it like it was precious.

"… Everyone…" Kiba mumbled as a tear fell down his cheek.

The expression on Yuuto's face was a mixture of both sadness and rage. Just then the orb gave out faint lights which started to spread and envelop the entire field. Bluish-white lights rose up from the ground around Yuuto and took the shape of boys and girls, who were all giving him a mournful gaze.

"The energy flowing across the battlefield made the souls within the orb appear." Akeno said.

Then… these must be Yuuto's friends from the Holy Sword Project.

"Everyone! I-I… It's always… always been on my mind. Did I deserve to be the only survivor…? There were those with far bigger and more numerous aspirations. Those who loved life more than I did. Is it right that I am the only one of us to have a peaceful life…?"

The spirit of a boy smiled. "Don't worry about us anymore. Live your life."

Tears came from the boy's eyes after feeling the spirits' thoughts reach Yuuto. All of the spirits started rhythmically speaking.

"… A hymn." Asia immediately recognized.

Yuuto started singing the hymn while shedding tears. The bodies of the spirits started to glow, and the lights were getting brighter, with Yuuto at its center.

"We were no good alone."

"We didn't have enough Factor to wield a Holy Sword, but…"

"Together, we should be able to-"

"Accept the Holy Sword."

"Don't be afraid."

"Even if God is watching."

"Our hearts will always be…"

"One."

The spirits of Yuuto's friends went up to the heavens and descended to Yuuto in a large radiance.

That Knight has attained it. Opheria spoke to Luke.

Attained what?

Sacred Gears evolve depending on the emotions of its possessor, but there is a transformation that goes beyond that. When the feelings and desires of the possessor undergo a dramatic shift that alters the world around them, that change affects the Sacred Gear. This… is a Balance Breaker.

Yuuto remembered when he escaped from the laboratory on the brink of death and encountered Rias, asking him 'what do you desire'.

"… To live on as a Devil." Yuuto murmured. "That was my master's wish, and mine as well. I thought I would be fine with that, but… I realized I couldn't throw away my resentment towards the Excaliburs or those who murdered my friends. No, I could have forgotten about it, but… That doesn't mean this is over! Valper Galilei, as long as you live, there will always be those who will suffer the same fate!"

"Hmph, research always requires sacrifice." Valper scoffed.

"Yuutooooooo!"

Yuuto heard his personal name from a voice he didn't expect to hear it from. The person who referred to him as such was Luke.

"Luke-kun?"

"Do you want to know why I wished to live so strongly that I summoned President?" Luke's eyes were glazing over. "Because I have to live on for my parents! And… you should live on for your friends! Both those who have passed on and those still with you! Now beat that bastard Freed and his Excalibur!"

"Yuuto, do it!" Rias added. "You need to end this yourself! You're better than that Excalibur! You're a member of my peerage! You are my Knight! There's no way my Knight would lose to an Excalibur!"

"Yuuto-kun, we believe in you!" Akeno cheered.

"… Yuuto-senpai." Koneko spoke up.

"You can beat him, Yuuto-senpai!" Fumiko shouted with her eyes shut.

Everyone's words touched Yuuto's heart.

"Hahaha, what's with all the blubbering?" Freed chuckled. "Were you singing with those puny ghosts? I can't stand that song! Just listening to it makes my skin crawl! Enough of this! I'll carve you to pieces with this fused Excalibur!"

"I will become a sword. Buchou, everyone, I will become your sword! This is my response to your faith in me! Sword Rebirth!"

Yuuto's Sacred Gear and the souls of his deceased friends merged and took on a new form in which demonic and holy power intertwined in the shape of a sword with both divine light and foreboding darkness.

"Balance Breaker! Holy-Demon Sword of Twin Supremacy, Sword of the Betrayer! You will know the power of the blade that combines light and dark into one!"

Yuuto dashed toward Freed, but he kept track of his movements, so he performed a few feints before he clashed swords with the exorcist. The aura from the fused Excalibur was being nullified by Yuuto's Holy-Demon Sword.

"That sword can surpass four Excaliburs?!" Freed panicked.

"If it was the true Excalibur, my blade wouldn't stand a chance." Yuuto explained. "But your Excalibur cannot cut the will of me and my friends!"

"Tch! Stretch!"

Freed's Excalibur twisted and moved around in random directions at blistering speeds before splitting at the tip into two and darting at Yuuto with god speed. Sensing Freed's killing intent, Yuuto was able to block the Excalibur strikes from every direction it came from.

"Why can't I hit you?!" Freed started complaining to the Excalibur. "You're supposed to be the ultimate Holy Sword! Then I'll have to add this as well!"

The tip of Excalibur became invisible, but Yuuto was still able to parry Freed's attacks. Freed's eyes narrowed with displeasure and frustration.

"That's it. Keep him occupied." Xenovia intruded in the battle, her Excalibur Destruction in her left hand while the right was held in the air. "Saint Peter, Saint Basil, Saint Denis, and the Virgin Mary, please hear my voice."

The space in front of Yuuto and Xenovia distorted, and she put her hand in that distorted space, pulling out from it a sword with a holy aura.

"In the name of the saints who reside in this blade, I release you, Durandal!"

"Durandal?!" Valper gasped.

"I thought you were the wielder of an Excalibur!" Kokabiel was equally surprised.

"No, I was always Durandal's wielder." Xenovia clarified as she readied both of her Holy Swords. "I was also asked to wield an Excalibur for the time being."

"Impossible! My research has yet to produce someone who could use Durandal!" Valper said.

"I'm not surprised. Even the Vatican has not been able to create an artificial Durandal wielder." Xenovia stated.

"Then how?!"

"Unlike Irina, who is among many artificial Holy Sword users, I am a natural born wielder. Durandal is a sword with unimaginable destructive power. It cuts anything it touches. It doesn't even listen to me most of the time. That's why I have to carry it in another space. Even I, it's wielder, find it difficult to control. Freed Sellzen, I should thank you for forcing me to use Durandal and Excalibur at the same time. I can't contain my excitement. Don't die with a single hit, okay? I at least want Excalibur to be used to its fullest!"

Durandal's blade gave off a stronger holy aura than even the Excalibur held by Freed.

"Is that even legal?!" Freed shouted. "Don't spoil my fun! You shitty bitch! Go to hell!"

Freed targeted his hostility toward Xenovia and tried to slash her with the transparent Excalibur, but in a single slash, Freed's Excalibur shattered and there was a large gash in the ground.

"It's just a broken Holy Sword, huh?" Xenovia sighed in boredom. "It can't even compete with Durandal."

"Seriously?! The legendary Excalibur was blown to pieces?! How horrible! Kyaaaaa! Am I an idiot for trying to use something that was broken from the start? I was supposed to witness the shallowness of humanity and the foolishness of the Chuch!"

While his spirits were down, Yuuto came straight at Freed. The priest tried to block the Holy-Demon Sword with what was left of his Excalibur, but it crumbled with just one cut.

"Did you see it? Our power has surpassed Excalibur."

Yuuto proceeded to slash Freed across from his shoulder to the side of his stomach, and he fell as blood came from his wounds. Yuuto gripped his Holy-Demon Sword and looked up toward the night sky with a feeling of losing his purpose in life.

"A… Holy-Demon Sword?" Valper looked on in shock. "That's impossible… Opposing powers cannot merge like that…"

"Valper Galilei, prepare yourself!" Yuuto pointed his Holy-Demon Sword at Valper.

"… I see! I understand now! If light and dark are out of balance… that explains it! Not only did the Great Satans perish, but so did-"

Before Valper could finish, a spear of light pierced through his chest and after vomiting blood, his body fell to the ground. Yuuto went up to him to check his condition and confirmed that he was dead.

"Valper, you really were remarkable." Kokabiel commented. "Realizing the truth proves that. In reality, I never really needed you. I could have done all of this myself from the start. Hahahahahaha! Kahahahahahaha!"

Everyone watched as Kokabiel descended to the ground with a boisterous laugh, a fearless smile, and giving off intense pressure, preparing themselves to face an overwhelmingly powerful opponent.
