AN: Alright, Chapter 3. I'll keep the intro short before we go right on in. I do have to give a warning. There will be a fight scene later in the chapter and the violence there is what's gonna give this story its M rating. You've been warned.
The sun was down and the campfire was roaring full swing. Artemis, Thalia, Annabeth and Zoe were laughing, crying and cheering as they caught up with each other. Cooking up a storm was Percy, who was cutting, cleaning, seasoning and cooking up Gustave with practiced ease. Despite their mixed feelings, the hunters were loving it all the same.
"Gods whatever this spice is is so good." Phoebe moaned, swallowing her pride and hatred as she dug into a slab of seared meat. She never tasted anything like it in all the centuries she's been alive. Percy chuckled softly as he gave a younger hunter another serving.
"I would hope so. Literally lost an arm for it a while back." He shot at her, unintentionally rolling the arm in question. Everyone save Zoe stared at the boy in question and his nonchalance at his dismemberment.
"I have a vastly improved regeneration factor nowadays amongst other bonuses. Earned and cashed in a few favors to get it, although it's not as good as the original benefactor's own regeneration." Percy explained when he saw the stares, and the worried and frightened look of Annabeth, directed at him. Zoe snorted.
"Hence why you regrew half an arm in a few hours instead of a few weeks like usual." She said in a matter of fact tone, making Artemis wince. While a god's regeneration on its own was good, it wasn't that good. They needed help to match that level. She could only wonder how good his donor's regeneration was. Percy huffed.
"More because I'm back home and my connection to my water powers are much stronger." Percy said, offering up a logical explanation as to why things were much better than what she was used to. Nodding and accepting the explanation, Zoe went back to her food while Percy went back to cooking. Phoebe turned to Zoe.
"So Zoe, what's with guns? Figure you'd go for a bow and arrow again." She asked, motioning to the arsenal off to the side the reborn girl had. Pistols, SMG's, assault rifles, shotguns and even a rocket launcher. She had it as well as some weapons they never even knew existed.
"I would normally. However, three factors changed that. One, my metahuman gene is very much tailored to firearms." She said proudly.
"Metahuman gene?" Artemis asked, curious as to what she meant by that. Glancing to the side, she saw Annabeth perked up and leaned in to listen. Clearly Percy explained this to her.
"It's like demigod powers without the divinity and way more varied. My gene allows me to just have virtually unlimited ammo for whatever gun I'm using, although it does require different amounts of energy from myself depending on the ammo." Zoe explained, and to prove her point, a simple pistol bullet popped into existence right in her, to which she began twirling it between her fingers easily.
If only it was arrows, Artemuis thought in sadness.
"The other two factors?" Phoebe asked. Zoe grinned happily.
"Like my dad, one I love very much by the way, I am super good with shooting. Hell, I'm better with a gun than a bow, although dads way better still." Zoe said proudly, making everyone gasp. Zoe Nightshade, praising another man, let alone having a great relationship with him. They never thought they'd see the day.
"Can we get a demonstration?" Artemis asked, curious as to how good she was and by extent her new father. If she ever met the man she'd have to thank him for being so good to her old friend. Zoe shook her head.
"Later." She offered, everyone accepting of her response. Now exactly wasn't the best time for that kind of stuff.
"And the final thing?" Thalia asked. Zoe grinned in an unnerving way.
"We run into some monsters, I'll test out my, well, our friends hypothesis on the matter. Knowing him, it's probably right." Zoe said cryptically. Phoebe merely slammed her head on the table. Zoe is good friends with Percy, she has a dad she loves, another male she's friends with and praises so highly.
What's next? Percy declaring war on Olympus?
Zoe shot a look at Artemis, noticing she was awfully quiet. Seeing the troubled look on her old mistress's face, she got up from the table.
"Percy, can we have some privacy?" Zoe asked, getting his attention as she gently grabbed the goddess's shoulder, leading them a bit away from the table. A few meters away from the hunters, Percy enveloped them in a red bubble that was soundproof, telling them he'd be back in five minutes.
"So Zoe." Artemis got out awkwardly after a minute or so of silence. Zoe looked at her friend expectedly, having an idea of what this was about. Artemis took a breath.
"Are you going to be rejoining the Hunt?" she got out, looking at her long time friend in anticipation. Zoe slouched and exhaled deeply, running a hand through her hair.
"While I'm very much flattered by your offer and the thought crossed my mind a few times since my rebirth, I'm going to have to decline." She said softly, a pained smile on her face as she rejected the offer. Artemis stood there slack jawed, shocked at her old friend's response.
"What? Why?" she asked a little desperately. Zoe ran a hand through her hair and sat down. Patting the spot next to her, Artemis joined her old friend.
"I love my new life Milady. I have friends, a dad I love and can be proud of, even if he isn't the best man and is in jail a lot, and I love what I do for the world. As much as I've enjoyed my time with you, looking back on it, it's just been holding me back." Zoe explained, absent-mindedly staring at the stars, specifically her constellation.
"What do you mean?" Artemis asked. While she could understand most of what Zoe said, she couldn't fathom what she meant about herself and her sisters. Zoe sighed.
"You and the other girls, we've been stuck in our ways for thousands of years. While the changes you're trying out with Annabeth are a start, you still have a lot ahead of you in order to be better." Zoe said cryptically, making Artemis flinch a little, now understanding where she was going. Yeah, she had a point. Before Artemis could open her mouth, Zoe continued.
"You want to know who the worst human I know is?" Zoe asked out of the blue, fishing some papers out of her suit. Handing the goddess a picture, she saw a fat black woman in a suit with short hair. What was unnerving about the photo was her eyes. Just cold and dead.
"Amanda Waller. Heads and directs unethical experiments that make what you and the other gods did look tame. Hundreds if not thousands of people killed, innocent or not, by her orders. She's the bitch who can end my dads life on a whim, if the missions she sends him on don't kill him." Zoe explained, revealing the surface level atrocities of a mere human. Handing the goddess a few sheets of paper, Artemis felt her stomach twist and turn worse and worse as she read on.
How? How could one human, one woman enforce all these horrors. Cloning. Bombs in heads. Assassinations. Innocent children. She was worse than some of the Titans! Artemis couldn't help herself and lurched to the side, emptying her stomach onto the ground as Zoe rubbed her back, a few tears pooling in her eyes.
"The point I'm making is women can be just as bad, if not worse than men. You and everyone else are so focused on bad men that you ignore the good men and boys and the bad women and girls." Zoe said soothingly, breaking the harsh truth to the goddess she always denied. Sniffling, she merely leaned against the metahuman, letting her head be rubbed as she quietly cried. After a few minutes, she ran out of tears.
"The times have changed in the world, and we have to change to keep up or be left behind." Zoe said sagely, Artemis dumbly nodding along. She looked up at her friend.
"When did you get so wise?" she teased, a small grin on her face. Zoe chuckled softly.
"Our one friend is smart enough that he makes the Wisdom goddess look like an absolute baboon. You'd like him. Humble, kind and caring. You pick up a thing or two being with him." Zoe said appraisingly. If she could, she'd like to meet this male. If Zoe liked him, he had to be okay. Artemis changed the subject.
"The Hunt and I aren't the only reason you won't join, is it?" she asked softly and knowingly, following Zoe's gaze and landing on Percy, who was laughing and smiling with Annabeth.
"No, it isn't." She said with a bittersweet smile. Zoe threw on a happier face.
"If it makes you feel any better, once said friend can figure out a way for me and Percy to hop back and forth between here and home, we can go hunting together. Just like old times." Zoe said in a jovial tone, bringing both their spirits back up. Just like old times.
Back with Percy and the Hunters, Percy was finally sitting down and eating. Thalia and Annabeth with him, he had his fangs out, ripping the normally tough meat with ease and swallowing it practically whole. Thalia got his attention.
"So Percy, how exactly did you get back here?" she asked, something a lot of the other hunters were curious about as well, save Annabeth.
"Well, me, Zoe and a few of our friends got kidnapped by an alien warlord and would've been puppets in a mind control experiment." Percy started before stopping once he noticed the incredulous looks of the girls.
"Don't give me that look. You live amongst the Greek gods and all their weird nonsense, Zoe came back to life, yadda, yadda, yadda. Just accept this type of stuff." Percy ranted, bringing up a very fair point. The gods were real and the majority of the world thought they weren't. What he was saying wasn't farfetched in the grand scheme.
"Anyway, we escaped, fought him and our friend set it so his ship imploded and created a sort of pseudo worm or black hole. Honestly, it's a miracle we ended up here specifically instead of some random dimension." Percy said.
"You're welcome by the way. Pass the ketchup." said a nasally voice. Looking at its source, everyone saw a tiny floating cartoon. Not a man. A literal, 2D cartoon clashing against normal humans. He was about three feet tall, with a comically large, balding head, two black dots for eyes and a dark purple top hat. Connected to his head was a body the same size as his head, clad in a purple suit to match his hat.
Mr. Mxyzptlk: Voiced by Gilbert Gottfried- Design: DC Animated Universe (RIP)
"Who are you?" Artemis ordered, drawing her bow and aiming at the diminutive man, her hunters following suit. Despite this, he remained unbothered, continuing to eat his food while Percy and Zoe sighed and rolled their eyes, very familiar with this being
"Don't bother, we can do literally nothing to him. Just be glad he's a joker and here for fun." Zoe explained, passing the requested condiment to the imp. Phoebe blew up.
"The fuck you mean we can do nothing to him." She ground out. Percy sighed dramatically before picking up the imp under his arms, as if he were a cat. Of course he was still eating, unbothered by this.
"This little guy is Mr. Mxyzptlk, and he's from the Fifth Dimension, while we're in the Third Dimension. He's two whole levels of existence higher than us." Percy explained with Zoe nodding confirmation. The imp cleared his throat dramatically.
"Which means I can do this." He said before snapping his fingers a few times, and every one brought about drastic changes.
First snap merely swapped the genders of everyone. All the hunters and Zoe became fairly handsome men, Percy became a beautiful woman and Artemis for some reason was still very, VERY feminine despite clearly being a boy. Weird.
The second snap turned them all into random animals. The third into some inanimate objects. The fourth snap was the breaking point.
Annabeth became black with black hair, Thalia became Chinese, Percy became blonde, Artemis and Zoe became Hispanic, and so on. Every single individual's race and appearance was changed and became unrecognizable as to how they actually looked. With a fifth and final snap, everyone was back to normal and everyone had different reactions.
"Why was I a male?" Artemis ground out, nearly puking at the very thought that she was male, despite still being very feminine, even for five seconds. Yeah, she was definitely going to stop with the gender bending.
"Eh, if it makes you feel any better, you were still very beautiful as a boy. Weird how you still had a fat ass though." Zoe said casually, completely unashamed of the fact she announced she was staring at the goddess's rear. Artemis merely blushed golden.
"Did you just make me black?" Annabeth cried, grabbing the diminutive imp by his suit and shaking him violently. The imp was unbothered and waved her off despite his head flopping around.
"Oh quit your complaining. According to people on the internet you're white so your skin color and whatever you experienced in life doesn't matter." He explained in a matter of fact tone, confusing everything in the vicinity but at the same, pissing them off even more.
"Okay first of all, what? Second of all, that's so racist." Thalia said, stating the obvious and to her dismay, the imp shrugged his shoulders.
"You'd think that but no. Meanwhile if it was reversed people would be crying for blood. Bunch of hypocrites." He complained, disgusted by the humans' hypocrisy. An awkward silence filled the area as the hunt stared down the imp, who Annabeth was still shaking.
"If it makes you feel any better I made King Thunder Thighs black and some black girl named Hazel asian." the imp said, trying to make Thalia feel better. In fact this did the opposite and made her shiver although everyone was confused at the significance of this Hazel.
"Knowing what he's done and known for, I feel that's worse given the stereotypes." Artemis sighed, seeing the logic in the beings words and how screwed up this whole thing was. He merely gave her a supportive pat on the shoulder.
"Very but others don't think like that. Dumbasses." He cursed. Percy decided to change the topic and grabbed the imp by the back of his suit and held him at arm's length.
"So why are you here exactly? Surely you didn't bring us here out of the kindness of your heart." He interrogated, knowing all too well how this guy worked. Mr. Mxyzptlk clapped his hands jovially.
"Oh you know me so well. Anyway, I figured bringing you guys here would be a prime opportunity for some entertainment, considering what you've been wanting to do for over a year. And yes, this involves why he's been gone in the first place." He explained mysteriously, drawing the curiosity of everyone except Zoe and Percy. Percy merely grinned devilishly, an absolutely manic, bloodthirsty grin on his face that unnerved everyone.
"Percy, what exactly did Zeus do to you?" Annabeth got out, almost flinching when Percy turned his gaze upon her, dropping his disguise and making everyone jump at how he truly looked.
"After I made my request a year ago regarding the gods and their kids, which you saw, The King, the Wisdom and War gods pulled me aside after everything was said and done." Percy explained, creating a rough holographic rendition of that meeting with his ring. To everyone's horror, all three of them flashed Percy to a location used in Hera's torture and as one, threw him in.
"They threw me into Chaos without a shred of remorse. I don't mean to brag but I did a lot of the heavy lifting leading up to the war and allowing us to win. Sacrificed so much for Olympus. You'd think that would count for something but no." Percy ranted, everyone dumbly nodding in agreement. The girls didn't call him out on it as they knew it was true, and if any one of them were in his shoes, they doubted they could pull through.
"The War God still hated my guts after my first quest. I also believe that my request would lessen conflict so that's a factor as well. The Wisdom goddess hates me on the basis of being Poseidon's son and the fact me and Annabeth wanted to date. There was likely another factor in her decision. Don't get me started on the King." Percy listed, bringing up his hypothesis on the betrayal itself. Granted there very likely was more to it, everyone knew that, but he wasn't going to go and make things up. Artemis swallowed the lump in her throat.
"What about you Zoe?" she got out.
"After I was put in the sky, the King attempted a Callisto situation- she began explaining only for some of the older girls to shriek and start crying while Artemis felt her heart drop. That was a very sensitive, bitter topic that none of them liked to acknowledge.
-again some time later. I refused his advances and like Percy, right into Chaos. Unlike him being spit out in a random location, I was reincarnated. Was an awkward conversation with my dad." Zoe continued, scratching the back of her head at that memory. Things were silent for a few minutes, everyone digesting the crimes brought upon the hero who saved so many and their long time friend and sister.
"So what is Chaos?" Annabeth asked, a sentiment many there were curious of as well. Nobody knew what the swirling mass of well, chaos, was. All they knew is that whatever was thrown in there vanished, never to be seen again. They theorized that beings were simply erased from existence but Percy and Zoe standing there said otherwise. Percy hummed.
"From what I can tell and experienced, Chaos here apparently functions as a sort of pseudo portal to different dimensions and universes. What happens to the individual varies once inside. Zoe was reincarnated. I popped up at 16 years old somewhere in the universe near Sector 2814. Don't know if it was just that universe or we got lucky to end up there together " He theorized, showing off his Lantern Ring for everyone.
"You mean?" Artemis asked, eyes widening slightly. Percy nodded.
"Yes. I was in the vacuum of space for a few seconds. It was nothing but pure luck and chance that I met the requirements for a Red Lantern ring nearby which saved my life for the time being. Another second i would've died" He said. An oppressive silence filled the camp, no one wanting to address the next topic until Annabeth did so.
"So what now?" She asked, rubbing Percy's back as he sighed.
"Right now, it's just waiting for our friend to come get us." He muttered.
"What about my father and the other two?" Artemis asked shyly. Considering what she was shown, she had every right to be nervous. Percy stared at her blankly.
"Swear on the River Styx that you won't attack me or say anything." He pleaded in a dead tone that unnerved her. Reluctantly, she did so and the telltale sound of thunder occurred.
"Should the opportunity arise, and I know it won't cause problems down the line, I'm either going to kill the three of them, or make them mortal and the world would be better off because of it." Percy hissed venomously. Not even a second after his declaration, dozens of arrows were aimed at him, Artemis aiming right at his forehead, Styx be damned. The only ones who didn't were Annabeth and Thalia.
"And why would I let you do such a thing?" the goddess asked, taking all her restraint to not simply kill Percy on the spot. Despite the betrayal he faced, this was still declaring war on Olympus. Her eyes widened and started to tear a little when she felt something metal press against the back of her head. Despite what she saw as betrayal, she didn't take her eyes off of Percy.
"Because you all know deep down he's right." Zoe said sternly, taking the safety off of her pistol. It hurt her to do this but it was something that had to be done. While it wouldn't kill her, it would definitely do some damage and that was more than enough.
"He attempted to rape your best friend and threw her into Chaos. As she said, the Callisto situation all over again. God knows how many other women he actually raped over the centuries. He was going to kill Thalia, his own daughter over a prophecy that any dumbass could realize only benefited his own side given the circumstances." he raged, becoming more and more unhinged as ranted. Heat began to surge off of him, making Annabeth recoil and stopping him.
"I'm sorry about that. Much easier for me to get angry with this." He said, taking a few deep breaths as he flashed his ring.
"He was willing to go to war with my dad, and kill millions, if not billions of innocents because his dumbass lost the most powerful weapon they have right under his nose. And no, my dad isn't without blame either. A simple swearing on the Styx would've ended it." He started, bringing up a very fair point. The more Percy ranted, the more they could see the points he was making and actually started to agree with him more and more.
"He's got a list of sins and transgressions that can take years to get through. We both know he is unfit to rule and is such a horrible being that he's on par with some of the Titans." he concluded before turning to the goddess.
"Artemis, I have to ask you this. If he rapes or attempts to rape one of your hunters another time, will you just let it happen or will you fight back?" He fired at her, making her hang her head in shame. She didn't know. Percy shook his head.
"The War God. He's not as bad as his dad but he still has to go. He was willing to help Kronos start a war that would've killed so many. He doesn't think. He just wants senseless violence. Same with his dad, if his kids die, so be it. Fuck, I wouldn't put it past him to rape a few women to get a kid and I'm willing to bet he'd kill one of his own too." He ranted, making some of the girls wince at the accusations. Nobody brought up his involvement with Kronos all those years ago as they knew they'd be killed on the spot. Percy felt himself heat up, forcing some of the girls to back away from him. Taking a minute to calm himself, he directed his gaze towards Annabeth.
"Annabeth, what's the story told regarding your mother and Medusa?" He said blankly, making the blonde in question wince before she schooled her features.
"Medusa was your dad's old girlfriend and they went on a date in one of her temples. Her punishment was being turned into the gorgon." she said in monotone, as if it was something she explained thousands of times. Off to the side, Artemis winced. She knew what happened between those three and she still hasn't forgiven the two gods for what they've done to Medusa at the time. How Percy came upon that information she didn't know, and she dreaded to know what else he knew. Percy smiled in an almost cruel manner.
"Medusa was a priestess for your mother and refused my dads advances and was subsequently raped, and yes, I'm going to punch him hard for that. Medusa went to her patron for comfort and forgiveness and in turn was turned into the gorgon. All to get back at my dad." He explained, all to the growing horror of the hunters, especially Annabeth and other daughters of Athena. While she'd admit her mother wasn't the warmest goddess, to do something so heinous was disgusting, even more so than normal. Percy wasn't done.
"Did you know that a good chunk of the standard monsters you guys kill used to be normal humans? Some hellhounds, empousa and the occasional cyclops. All of them who defied the Wisdom goddess in some capacity. Be it smarter than her, said no to her advances and prying, etcetera. Fuck, two of them are her own spawn." He raged, revealing even more of the goddesses' crimes. Artemis couldn't help but lower her bow in shock. Even she didn't know this and she didn't have any big reason to doubt Percy. He knew the truth regarding Medusa, one of Athena and Poseidons biggest and well guarded secrets, so he'd know of any hidden crimes of the goddess. What else did he know? What else did Athena do? Percy wasn't done. She was so enraptured by his ramblings that she didn't pay any attention to the headache that was starting to grow in intensity.
"Annabeth, tell me. Did she ever act like an actual mother to you or your siblings? A hug, encouragement, anything? She sees and uses you as tools. The fact that a few of them are around the same age tells me she doesn't give a fuck. Just keep popping out children. Same for the others as far as I know. She reminds of those women who adopt and then neglect kids just to look good." He snarled, bringing up a good point to those who were listening. All the other goddesses at least made some effort to contact their children whenever they could, but Athena rarely showed up, and even then, only when she wanted something or said kid did something big. Meanwhile Annabeth started to cry softly.
"Better yet, she has an artifact of hers in possession of Arachne, another one of her victims. Actually, I'm not certain whether or not she actually knows Arachne is involved or she just keeps sending kids despite the same results. Guess how many of the hundreds of her children she sent to get it succeeded?" Percy said, driving the final nail home. To willingly send her own kids to what was essentially certain death, year after year despite knowing what would happen was too much for Annabeth and she started to break down.
"Please. Please tell me it's not true." She choked, the normally stoic girl breaking down, tears pooling in her eyes like her sisters. Percy hugged her gently as she sobbed.
"I swear on the River Styx it's all true to the best of my knowledge in this universe." He muttered, followed by the loudest crack of thunder they've heard from the Styx. Like a switch, Annabeth stopped everything. Her shitty childhood, the betrayal of Percy, lying to and essentially killing her and her siblings for centuries and all the other atrocities. In that moment, she felt a weight lift off her shoulders and something shatter.
"I. Hate. Her. I hate her so much." She ground out in a way as if she were a child of Ares, blood beginning to drip from her mouth, no doubt from how hard she ground her teeth. Before anyone could inspect her she stormed off in huff, acting more like an animal as she raged off, the sounds of her screaming and nature breaking a distance away. The sound of a body hitting the ground took their attention again.
"Artemis?" Percy asked, seeing the goddess collapse onto the ground in a dead faint, ichor flowing from her nose.
"MILADY!" Thalia panicked, rushing over to her goddess while Zoe did the same.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?!" Phoebe screamed, lunging at him with a knife. To her horror, it bounced off his skin with barely a scratch. Grabbing her wrist, she couldn't budge and instead resorted to trying to punch and kick him to the same result.
"Some kind of mental block or suppression snapped. Heh, always had my suspicions. Everything she hates in a male and she listens to the living embodiment of that with no issue." Zoe muttered, making everyone snap to her. Inspecting the goddess more closely, she saw the bleeding had stopped. Giving a signal, everyone stepped away from Percy. Percy stood there a bit awkwardly.
"So does anyone have Apollo on speed dial?" Zoe asked. Everyone shook their heads. Percy sighed.
"Okay I got this." He said. Stepping away, he took a deep breath.
"APOLLO IS A FUCKING LOSER WHO IS INCREDIBLY UGLY, IS HORRIBLE AT MUSIC AND HATES HIS BIG SISTER!" he shouted to the heavens, making everyone drop their jaws at his taunting. They didn't even cover the younger hunters' ears. He simply shook his head.
"Don't give me that look." He said, rolling his eyes. Not like they had any better ideas. Zoe raised her hand.
"Three, two, one." She counted down, and sure enough, Apollo flashed in on the dot. His normally joyous face was livid, along with him being fully garbed for battle and ready to let loose an arrow.
"WHO DARES INSULT- Zoe? Percy?" He got out before his attitude vanished in an instant. The once dead girl he knew for thousands of years was back, now garbed in mortal military equipment. Alongside her, the hero of Olympus who vanished without a trace was back with a new look and with an aura that he couldn't quite pin down. Taking advantage of the dumbstruck god, Percy effortlessly dragged him to his comatose sister.
"Artemis is currently suffering from some mental issues and we need you to take a look at them." He said in a no nonsense tone. Apollo immediately went down on his knees upon hearing that, with Zoe and Thalia backing away.
"What the Hades happened to her?" He asked seriously, prying open an eyelid, not looking away from her. Percy shuffled around awkwardly.
"Told them some things she didn't like apparently. I'd tell you but I'm not taking a chance on the same thing happening to you." He explained, with the god accepting the answer for the time being.. Percy was about to continue when he felt something familiar.
"Oh you've gotta be shitting me." He growled out, heat building up before he stormed off. Curious as to what pissed him off, Apollo's jaw dropped when Percy opened a swirling red portal with his ring.
"Zoe, I'll be back soon. Lantern near the bottom of the ocean. Fill Apollo in on what he's missed." Percy ordered, receiving a nod of confirmation.
"Have fun Percy." Zoe said with a smile, giving him a two finger salute as he flew through the portal. It collapsed on itself right after, giving Thalia a chance to ask Zoe a question.
"So how dangerous is a Lantern?" Thalia asked, curious as to what the significance was. Zoe hummed and crossed her arms under her bust.
"One Lantern is usually enough to sufficiently defend a sector of the entire universe, which usually contains 2.3 Septendecillion galaxies- all daughters of Athena immediately fainted at such a boggling number and feat- Either way, intergalactic terrorists or peacekeepers depending on the color. Red, Orange and Yellow are usually the former, save Percy of course. Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet are the latter." She said nonchalantly before taking out her gear and beginning to inspect it. If another Lantern was here, what else was coming?
"What the fuck did I miss?" Apollo asked, completely flabbergasted by the last two minutes and what Zoe and Percy have been up to.
Space
Outside the solar system that contained Earth, one of the most dangerous and violent individuals was making his way to the third planet from the sun. Similar in appearance to a biker, the bone white male was incredibly large, his leather jacket barely containing his frame. Even had the right sleeve ripped off in his entirety showing off a muscular arm and no doubt frame bigger than most beings. Blue jeans and black leather boots were on his lower half while fingerless black gloves gripped his space hogs handlebars.
Grinning in anticipation, pure red eyes clashed with the black markings on his pale face, while his mustache, beard and wild mane of black hair fluttered against the vacuum of space. Right next to his face, Mr. Mxyzptlk popped into existence, keeping pace with the aliens' space hog.
Lobo: Voiced by Brad Garrett- Design: DC Animated Universe
(Please note that even though Mr. Mxyzptlk is described as a 2D cartoon, Lobo is not. Mr. Mxyzptlk is the only 2D character. Everyone else is 3D. If that makes sense)
"So you know what to do right?" the 5th Dimensional Being asked, making the bounty hunter snort.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fuck Ares and Athena's shit up. Toy with them and give them a taste of their own medicine. Don't kill them." the Czarnian muttered in annoyance. Telling him how to do his damn job. Insulting. Mr. Mxyzptlk crossed his arms as they passed the planet Jupiter
"That's right. It's been two whole chapters without any hyper violence and you're just the guy needed to make up for it." He explained, making Lobo raise an eyebrow in confusion but he ultimately paid it no mind. Mr. Mxyzptlk gave Lobo a small piece of paper as they passed Mars.
"You know how to find Ares. Athena is in a library in this location. Have fun." the imp said before leaving this level of existence. Lobo read the note before ditching the paper, letting it float through space. Entering Earth's atmosphere, he noticed how nobody paid any attention to him as he flew into the city. The Mist or whatever it was that damnable imp informed him about. Swinging in near a nice looking bar in the middle of the city, Lobo kept his hog running as he dismounted.
"Tch. Man this place is boring." Lobo muttered as he looked around the quiet city, and more importantly at his target in the bar.
The Czarnian squeezed his way into the bar, looking over the establishment for his target. He whooped the ass of his counterpart enough times to know exactly where to find him by presence alone. Sure enough, his target was at the bar, drinking and having the time of his life. The common urge swelled up and he grinned.
"You Ares?" He asked, lumbered over behind the war god. The deity threw back the rest of his beer.
"Yeah, what of it punk?" He asked, turning around to look at the man who wanted his attention. The instant he did so a large hand grabbed the top of his head and slammed it straight through the bar, destroying It completely. Not letting go, the larger man lifted the god back up and threw him through the window HARD. Crashing into his motorcycle, Ares and his ride skid across the road and into a parked car with enough force it exploded, a large fireball filling most of the street. As flames spread across the asphalt, people began running away, eager to get away from the inhuman psychopath and spreading fire. Stepping out of the broken window, the biker was unbothered by the flames licking his skin. Not wasting the opportunity, he grabbed one of his cigars and lit it with the surrounding inferno.
"Fucking wuss." He muttered, grabbing his shotgun off his back and began loading it, taking his sweet time as he walked towards his target. He owed the kid a favor and he was going to make it count. Ares stepped out of the fire, his clothes being slightly burnt.
"Do you have any idea who the fuck you're messing with punk!?" the war god yelled before rushing his aggressor, fist reared back for a haymaker. Throwing a punch that would kill mortals and injure minor gods, Ares was stunned when it was caught with almost no issue.
"I do." Lobo stated, blowing smoke into Ares face before bringing him in for a headbutt that sent the deity reeling back as he clutched his face.
"And I don't care." He taunted, unraveling his hook and chain and wrapping it around the war gods feet and pulling it, sending him flat on his back
"Come on man, this the best the so-called God of War can do." Lobo whined, wrapping his chain back up on his arm. Shaking the cobwebs out of his head, Ares got up and summoned his sword and rushed the alien wildly.
"There we go! Now we're talking!" Lobo cheered, rushing Ares head on. Ares swung his sword down fast enough that most beings wouldn't even see it yet the mysterious being blocked it with little issue, catching it with his chain.
"So, what the fuck do you want?" Ares ground out, panting slightly as he attempted to push down to no avail. Cracks began to form on the pavement from the pressure yet Lobo paid it no mind. Lobo gave in a little, letting his foe get closer by a few inches.
"Owed someone a small favor and they wanted me to kick the shit out of you." Lobo informed Ares, making his eyes widen in shock and outrage.
"Fighting a god, let alone an Olympian is a small favor?" Ares snarled, practically foaming at the mouth, trying to put on a brave face. In reality, he was unnerved. Who was out there that taking on Olympus was considered a small task for them?
"Oh you have no idea what's out there big man." Lobo grinned, kicking Ares in the midsection and making him stumble back. Grabbing a random car, Lobo effortlessly swung it over his head and onto Ares, flattening it and burying the god. It remained there for a few seconds before it began to rise.
"AARRRGH! I'm going to grind you into paste." Ares roared, effortlessly holding the car above his head, his clothes taking more and more damage as his skin started to be effected.
"Awful big talk from a dead man." Lobo grinned, crossing his arms nonchalantly. Ares seethed.
"I'm not dead yet." He got out, preparing to slam the car used on him back at Lobo. Insultingly, he simply mocked looking at his wrist.
"You're right. My watch is about 10 seconds fast." Lobo joked before grabbed two parked cars on either side of him and slamming them together, sandwiching Ares between them in a fiery explosion that filled the street. As Ares cried out in pain, Lobo took out his shotgun.
Fanning the flames away, time seemed to move in slow motion for Ares. His clothes were on fire and patches of his skin were starting to gain first degree burns, his godly regeneration barely keeping up with his wounds. Panting, he looked up to see a shotgun shoved into his stomach roughly. He could only blink at the mortal, who gave him a grin before pulling the trigger. A shockwave erupted from the barrel, hurting him even more as against all reason, he was sent flying through the sky, crashing into and grinding against various buildings as he was sent across the city.
Whistling, Lobo hopped onto his bike that rushed at him, not even stopping as he rushed after his quarry. On the other side of New York, Athena sighed as she put down the book she was reading, disappointed in her daughter. She couldn't understand why her daughter was hung up on the Hades be damned spawn of Poseidon. She tried convincing her for over a year to move on but she was having none of it. Even went and joined her half sister's little group until Percy came back.
She couldn't help but let out an uncharacteristic snort at the thought. They threw that disrespectful brat in Chaos, something even the gods were afraid of. He wasn't coming back ever. As she put the book back, she couldn't help but freeze when she felt a surprising amount of rage directed at her. Probably Medusa or Arachne cursing her name again. Couldn't be one of her children, not anymore. She made sure that after the first few of her kids all those centuries ago stood against her, that nobody would have any reason to stand against her.
Her musings were broken by a massive explosion right outside the library, bathing the interior in orange. Rushing outside as The Mist ushered the mortals away, she couldn't help but wince at the state Ares was in. Fire was clinging onto him and burning, the scent of burnt flesh filling the air while first and second degree burns littered his body, all the while a significant amount of his clothes were gone. She rushed over.
"Ares? What the Hades happened to you?" she asked, kneeling over him as he laid on the ground, patting out the fires and giving his regeneration a small boost. Despite all that he was motionless
"Fuck that hurt." He got out, coughing up a small amount of ichor, not even bothering to move. Athena frowned when she heard the sound of engines rushing over to their locations as well as Ares stiffening up. Looking up, she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow when she saw what was apparently a flying motorcycle of some kind, likely something from Hephaestus, floating around 50 feet above them. She'd have to talk to him after this. She glared at the mortal rider.
"Oh goodie." Lobo said, dismounting from the hog and lazily jumping off, plummeting down carelessly as the bike continued to fly. He slammed into the pavement hard, dust flying as he created a small crater, completely unbothered by the fall.
"Hopefully the both of you together can actually give me a fight." He taunted, cracking his knuckles and neck. Getting up, Athena summoned her battle attire, her spear, which could harm mortals and shield in hand while Ares struggled to get up. Lobo raised an eyebrow.
"Mmmm. Well if you insist on weapons." He said in a mocking voice, unraveling his chain and letting the hook hit the ground. Quickly, he twirled the chain fast enough it became a blur before throwing it at the unprepared Ares, snagging his arm before pulling him over like he was weightless. In free fall, he could do nothing as a haymaker connected with his face, ripples traveling across its surface before he was sent back. He bounced across the ground for a few meters, ichor staining the ground as well as a few teeth.
Not even bothering to check on him, Athena rushed the mortal, spear raised and ready to impale him, all the while he stood there unbothered. Thrusting it, Athena's eyes widened when she saw him effortlessly dodge her strikes, some of them narrowly missing him as he dodged and weaved around and under the spear. Quickly changing her strategy, she thrust her shield forward in an attempt to scare him but to her complete shock, he stared at it unflinchingly.
"Oh this lady on your shield is gorgeous!" he praised, looking at the visage of the gorgon Medusa, something that would make some gods and even some Titans flinch. Ripping it from her arm roughly, pulling some muscles as he did so, she could help but gasp when he repeatedly pressed down on the durable shield, compressing it until it was the size of a marble and to her disbelief, ate it.
"Mmmm, thanks. He muttered before sinking his fist into her stomach, making her throw up. Blindly throwing a punch from her now shieldless arm, she yelled in pain as he effortlessly caught it and broke her forearm against his knee, spiked knee pads impaling her as well. Panting in fear and pain from her arm which now had an extra, unnatural joint, she tried to back away but he wasn't having it.
"Alright, I think I'm sufficiently- he got out before, to his and Athena's shock, Ares' sword was impaled in his heart. Behind him, the war god grinned triumphantly, thinking he got the mortal. To the two gods horror, he looked unbothered.
"Rude." Lobo muttered before pulling the sword out of his body from the side, causing more damage that healed up right before their eyes. Regeneration clearly better than the hydra's and theirs. Lobo huffed.
"As I was saying. I think this was a good warm up." Lobo said before shoving Athena onto the ground. Turning around quickly, Lobo placed his hands on Ares shoulder and ripped his arm off. Shocked, Ares could only stand there, looking at his stump. He didn't even see the stump of his arm rushing towards his face, sending him into the ground with a shockwave creating a crater that was filling with his ichor.
"Man, this is so disappointing. I met humans and mortals who put up a better fight than this." Lobo said, insulting Athena unknowingly. They were gods! Lobo grinned as he turned back to her.
"Virgin goddess huh? I think I know what to do to you." Lobo muttered and immediately, all instincts were in overdrive as she frantically backed away from the mortal who brutalized her, knowing what was coming. Lobo chuckled.
"Oh don't worry. I may have killed millions if not billions over my lifetime, but rape and kids are off limits. Well, directly killing kids." He muttered, before pulling out his shotgun. Roughly stomping on Athena's stomach, she couldn't help but whimper and cry a little when she saw him press the barrel in between her legs.
"Won't be needing this anyway." He grinned at her before pulling the trigger. Athena's vision went white, the worst pain she ever experienced filling her being. She couldn't even breathe, let alone scream as she flopped under the mortal's boot aimlessly. Ichor gushed from the wound like a river as he removed his boot. He stood over, watching her writhe before after what felt like hours, she stopped.
"Kill me." She groaned out, ichor flying with every syllable. Lobo put on a thinking pose.
"Nah." He said, waving off the broken goddess's desperate plea. Whistling, his hog rushed over to him as he mounted it. Just as he was about to leave, Athena weak called out to him.
"What are you?" she croaked out.
"Names Lobo. That's L as in lacerate. O as in obliterate. B as in disembowel. O as in, well, guess I can use obliterate twice." Lobo said, introducing himself. His work done, he cackled madly as he shot off into the night sky, leaving the two gods to bleed out.
AN: And we're back! Got the backstory on what happened to Percy and Zoe out of the way. Is it cliche and not that well executed? Yes but it works. We all know how and why Percy gets betrayed and it's the same 99% of the time, why fix what isn't broken? Besides,
I also have no shame in how I addressed the race swapping bit. Sue me. That's exactly how it sounds out there when people defend it, and before you go on about Rick- I feel that despite being the creator, he's wrong about his own work. I mean, JK Rowling screwed things up and got things wrong about her stuff in varying ways. Rick isn't immune. I swear if he decided to make Hazel asian and he gave the exact same reason he did with Annabeth, people would rage. Hypocrites
That thing regarding Athena and by extent the other gods is something I saw in another fic and I felt it makes sense. The gods are in charge and are still pumping out kids, so they might as well downplay and or say how their history went differently. Historical revisionism. I mean, it would make things pretty damn awkward knowing the things your godly parent have done and likely will do again.
The thing with Athena turning people into monsters is a pretty common occurrence. Medusa, Arachne, etc. It's not far-fetched to say she did the same to others who denied or offended her in some capacity. Including her own kids, especially when you consider her sending them into the meat grinder that is getting her artifact/Arachne. I mean, never read the sequel series, this is the gist of it according to a friend who did read it. I digress.
Lobo absolutely bodied Ares and Athena in a horrifically brutal fashion. This is the guy who killed his entire species in high-school and was explicitly denied from entering any afterlife. We all knew where this was going when he showed up. Lobo will be popping in occasionally throughout the fic. Also, how was the fight? Constructive criticism is always appreciated.
Also, figure I'd let you know that even though this is primarily a DC x PJO crossover, there will be some cameos of other IP's DC has collabed with in some capacity. The guest characters/series from Injustice like Mortal Kombat and Hellboy. Godzilla (specifically Monsterverse) and Co will show up in some capacity. Etcetera.
Anyway, I'm gonna be working on Antithesis Chapter 3 next, gonna try and dabble with a Godzilla x Percy Jackson thing (also, good kaiju or evil kaiju? Which sounds more appealing?) And get the next chapter of my Harry Potter fic going. See ya guys.

"Where the Hades have you been 'brother'?" Triton asked, shooting a glare at his half brother. To his surprise, Percy didn't take the bait.
"Triton, you can have a stupid temper tantrum about my existence and attempt to fight me later, but right now there's bigger concerns at the moment." Percy said, grabbing the head of one of the fish-like creatures that rushed him without looking and crushing it. Triton snorted.
"Tch. Hopefully Father will be in a better mood now that you're here." He said, bringing a smile to Percy's face, making the minor god nervous when he saw the shark-like teeth he possessed.
"Oh yeah, I owe him a few good punches." Percy said, cracking his knuckles before shooting off into the fray, zipping around and killing anything that crossed his path in a glowing red blur.
Preview 2
"Give me the goddess mortal and I'll let you live." Porphyrion offered generously, gesturing to the frightful Hera who was cowering in fear behind the mortal, who stared at the giant with no fear. Nobody expected his response in a million years.
"Give me head." the mortal taunted, narrowing his eyes as he stared down the Bane of Zeus. Porphyrion could only blink in disbelief.
"You didn't just say that." He got out, unsure of whether or not he heard things correctly. Sure enough, he did.
"I absolutely did, what are you gonna do about it?" He continued, crossing his arms over his chest in mocking fashion. Even began tapping his foot impatiently.
