The story of a rose over a shallow grave belongs to Wombag1786; this is the sequel to that.

P.S.: Sorry for the delay; I just didn't know how to continue the story. But I hope this is enough. By the way, Happy New Year 2025!
Chapter 13: Fire Support.
In the Dugout tavern.
Nate took a big swig of beer while reflecting a bit on the events of yesterday. They had arrived at Diamond City before nightfall, where they took ED-E and Nick to get repaired, as they had little electrical tics thanks to the pulse grenade. They found this bar where they could spend the night, and now Seis was with him, sending a message to Ruby.
"Are we looking tough? Huh, blue guy?" joked the bar owner, Vadim Brobov, a character with Russian roots who owned the tavern along with his brother Yefim.
"Just pour me another drink," Nate said, handing over the empty glass for Vadim to refill.
"I know tough looks, my friend, and you look like you've been through hell," Vadim joked.
"Ha, you have no idea," Nate said as he drank.
"We need to get back to Sanctuary; Ruby says more settlers have arrived, and Preston needs all the help he can get," Seis said, finishing reading his Pip-Boy.
"Yeah... first, we need to stock up, and then we'll head over there," Nate said, drinking.
"I'll see you outside, boss," Seis said, leaving Nate alone to drink.
'I have to keep going; Shaun is out there,' he thought before finishing his drink and leaving some caps on the bar as payment.
"Good luck, blue guy!" Vadim said farewell.
Before leaving with his group, Nate went to change, putting on Kellogg's clothes over his jumpsuit, along with the pockets of the old leather armor, and selling the old armor.
Nate approached the group, whose robotic companions were doing better.
"Are you coming with us?" Nate asked Nick.
"Unfortunately, no. I'm going to ask Piper a few things about the case. I'll keep in touch via radio," Nick said.
"Alright, I'll be listening," Nate said, allowing Nick to head to Piper's office.
The rest would head towards the Diamond City exit to return to Sanctuary.
They had passed through downtown Boston to go to Cambridge, where they had to cross the bridge connecting the two. But they ended up engaged in a fight against some raiders who had set up camp on a boat. Luckily, the laser and a grenade were enough to finish them off. After the battle, they moved through the streets of Cambridge until they both received a short radio signal.
"To all units of the Brotherhood of Steel, we request assistance. We are at the Cambridge police headquarters." They heard rifle laser shots in the distance.
As they approached the source of the noise, they saw a large horde of feral ghouls running toward the headquarters. Nate used grenades to attract the horde, causing them to disperse toward them. Seis fired quick shots with his medical staff to take out the closest ones while ED-E flew overhead to deliver precise headshots, and Nate used the All American to finish them off with automatic shots.
"Let's go!" Nate shouted as he loaded his weapon, and Seis provided cover.
They ran toward the station where a group of three was: a man and a woman in military clothing and a man in power armor firing a laser rifle.
Seeing him, Nate nodded and joined the fight with them.
"Fire at the truck!" shouted the man in power armor.
Nate threw a grenade at the truck, setting it ablaze, followed by a mini nuclear explosion thanks to its nuclear engine. The group was thrown backward by the shockwave, finishing off most of the ghouls and injuring the remaining ones.
As the group regrouped and saw the chaos caused by the explosion, they calmed down a bit to finish off the injured. When they returned, the man looked at them distrustfully.
"Good job, both of you. Now, what are you doing here?"
Seis noticed the emblem on his chest. "Are you from the Brotherhood of Steel?" he asked.
The man looked surprised for a moment but maintained his professionalism. "Affirmative. And you?"
"We're just trying to survive, like the rest," Nate said.
"That fighting style surpasses what a wasteland survivor can do. Are you from a nearby settlement?" he asked.
"We're from Sanctuary; well, I am..." Nate said nonchalantly. "He's from the other side of the country."
"I've seen the maps around here, but I've never been here. Sorry if I'm distrusting, but the Commonwealth hasn't welcomed us with open arms. We could use an extra hand."
"Before anything else," Seis spoke. "Are you from the Brotherhood? No? At least we should know your name, and you know ours."
"Understandable, I'm Paladin Danse of the Brotherhood of Steel," he said, looking over at his group; the woman was taking care of the man's wounds. "She's Scribe Haylen, and he's Knight Rhys. We've been trying to send a message to the Boston airport, but the signal is weak."
"Sir," said Scribe Haylen, wearing a uniform with pockets and a cap.
"Yes?" asked Danse.
"I've modified the radio signal from the station, but it's very weak. I need a signal amplifier."
Danse nodded. "Our objective is ArcJet Systems, and it contains the technology we need... the long-range transmitter. Let's make a deal— you help us, and I'll give you a reward in return. What do you say?"
"Sir, don't trust these dwellers," Knight Rhys spoke from the ground. "It's better if we go alone," he said, trying to get up, but Haylen stopped him.
"And that wound will reopen. Don't make this more complicated, Rhys," the woman said firmly to an annoyed Rhys.
"Fine," Nate said.
"Let's move; Haylen, treat Rhys's wounds, and when he's better, establish a security perimeter," Danse said, putting on his armor helmet.
"At your command," Haylen said as she got to work.
As they walked to the right, Nate noticed Rhys glaring at him with hatred. They left the station behind and followed Danse.
"ArcJet is to the west. If we go this way, we'll avoid the hordes of savages infesting Cambridge. I know it's risky to stray away from the station, but our priority is the transmitter. I could have relocated the team, but Scribe Haylen discovered strange energy readings in the area that needed to be investigated. As far as we know, they emit high-level-grade transmissions."
As they advanced, Nate decided to ask. "So, what are you? A military group or the remnants of the U.S. government?"
"We are a group that preserves technology. We prevent it from falling into the wrong hands."
"And appropriating it for themselves," Seis added skeptically.
Danse didn't respond to that. Nate, who was confused, looked at him. "Why the distrust?"
"The Brotherhood doesn't have the best reputation. To some, they're raiders with power armor who take technological stuff from you."
Nate decided not to continue the conversation, thinking that everyone had mixed opinions about the Brotherhood.
They moved forward without any problems until they reached a yellow and black building filled with debris. Danse spoke. "Before we enter, we'll do it cleanly and stealthily. No heroics. Understood?"
"Understood," Nate said, and Seis nodded.
They would enter the ruined building.
"They took advantage of the technology and got rich. They ignored the damage they caused," he said as they moved through the hall to a room where there were destroyed sentry bots. "Someone has already taken care of the security system in the center."
"Is anyone else here?"
"It seems so; there's no blood or spent shell casings... Maybe they are synths," Danse said, pulling out his laser rifle.
"Yeah, I've seen them," Nate said, remembering Kellogg. "Let's keep going."
"Forward."
The three would advance to another room where there was a blocked door where Seis would find a key to unlock it with a terminal. Once opened, they would be greeted by synths pointing weapons at them. The group fought their way through them in the hallways of the building. Meanwhile, Nate felt a strange sensation of electricity coursing through his body each time he killed a synth.
As they moved through a door, they entered a rocket testing area. "The scribes are going to go crazy here," Danse said in awe at the rocket.
"Look for a generator; I'll stand guard," Nate said, and Seis entered the testing booth where they saw a massive metal weapon. But it was too big to carry, so they left it where it was. They moved to the terminal where Nate, after five minutes, would unlock it and restore the auxiliary power of the complex, but they heard gunshots from outside and would see more synths shooting at Danse, who was defending himself. Nate noticed that the test thruster was activated.
"Shut the doors!" Seis nodded and closed them, and Nate activated the countdown.
As it reached zero, the room lit up momentarily, incinerating the synths, and Danse covered himself as best as he could. When it was over, they ran toward Danse.
"My God. Are you alright?" he asked.
"Yes... my power armor took some damage. The important thing is to keep going for the transmitter," he said, struggling to get back up.
The group would enter an elevator that took them to the control room, where they finished off the remaining synths and found the transmitter among the bodies.
"Well done, let's get out of here," Danse said.
They took the last elevator that took them to the surface.
"It could have gone better, but the mission was completed."
"Despite the differences, we made a good team," Nate said.
"Yeah, we did. It's nice working with civilians who follow orders, and as promised, here's your reward along with this. It was my old modified service rifle; I think it'll be useful to you," Danse said, handing Nate a bag of caps and a black laser rifle. "Now, here's the last thing. I have a proposal for you: you can spend your days aimlessly wandering from settlement to settlement, or you can use your skills for a good cause by joining the Brotherhood for a good cause."
"If I join, would you be willing to help me?" Nate asked, and Seis just shook his head indicating not to speak.
"What do you need?"
"Yesterday, I had an encounter with an Institute agent who took my son. If I join, I want you to help me find him and bring him back."
"I can swear the Brotherhood will do everything possible for you," Danse said, taking off his helmet.
"Alright, I'm in."
Danse smiled. "Alright, let's head back to the station." Nate nodded and would follow Danse. Meanwhile, Seis thought that they had made a deal with the devil.
What do you think? I know it was a bit slow, but now this is filler. Soon we'll get closer to an arc with our favorite group. See you in the next chapter.
