FADE IN: EXT. NEW YORK STREET - NIGHT - 1946

Rain falls on the dimly lit streets. PEGGY CARTER moves purposefully, umbrella in one hand, gun concealed in her coat.

PEGGY (V.O.) The war had been over for nearly a year. But some battles never truly end. They just... change.

She pauses at a corner, checking an address written in her notebook.

PEGGY (V.O.) The SSR had received reports of strange occurrences. People acting unlike themselves. Making decisions entirely out of character. Almost as if they were being... influenced.

INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE - NIGHT

Peggy moves cautiously through the warehouse, a flashlight beam cutting through the darkness. She stops suddenly, hearing a strange, mechanical WHEEZING SOUND. The wind kicked up papers around her.

PEGGY (to herself) What on earth...?

A pulsing blue light appears, materializing gradually into the shape of a POLICE BOX. Peggy takes cover behind a pillar, weapon drawn.

The door creaks open. THE DOCTOR (11th incarnation) steps out, straightening his bow tie and scanning the area with his sonic screwdriver.

THE DOCTOR Temporal disturbances are off the charts. Definitely not natural. Definitely not good.

He walks right past Peggy's hiding spot, completely absorbed in his readings.

THE DOCTOR (continuing) 1946. New York. Post-war but pre-everything else. Very, very delicate time. So why are there temporal echoes everywhere?

Peggy is about to step out when she sees a FIGURE emerge from the shadows behind the Doctor. The figure looks human but moves with unnatural stillness. As it approaches, its hand SHIFTS, becoming translucent and fluid-like.

Without hesitation, Peggy steps out, firing a warning shot into the ceiling.

PEGGY Don't move! Either of you!

The Doctor spins around, sees the approaching figure, and ducks just as it lunges. Peggy fires again, this time hitting the figure, which DISPERSES into wisps of light before reforming a few feet away.

THE DOCTOR (excited) Oh, brilliant shot! Temporal echo, disrupted but not dispersed!

The figure begins to shift appearance, cycling through different faces before settling on one that makes Peggy freeze—it now looks exactly like HER, but older, hair streaked with grey, wearing an unfamiliar uniform with an eagle emblem.

ECHO PEGGY (voice distorted) Potential future: 87% probability. Foundation date: 1949.

The Doctor points his sonic screwdriver at the echo. It shimmers and dissipates completely.

PEGGY (gun still raised, to the Doctor) Who are you? What was that thing? And why did it look like...me?

THE DOCTOR (smiling) Excellent questions! I'm the Doctor. That was a temporal echo—a fragment of potential future pulled into the present. And it looked like you because, well... it was you. Sort of. From one possible future.

PEGGY That's not possible.

THE DOCTOR (studying her carefully) Agent Peggy Carter. Strategic Scientific Reserve. You're absolutely right—it shouldn't be possible. Someone's interfering with your timeline specifically. The question is why.

PEGGY (suspicious) How do you know who I am?

THE DOCTOR (cryptic smile) Let's just say your work leaves quite an impression on the future.

A strange PULSING sound fills the warehouse. More wisps of light begin to form.

THE DOCTOR (urgent) No time to explain now. More echoes forming. We need to run!

PEGGY I don't run from things I don't understand. I investigate them.

THE DOCTOR (grinning) Oh, I can see why the history books like you. Fine then—let's investigate! Together!

He extends his hand. After a moment's hesitation, Peggy reluctantly takes it.

THE DOCTOR Fantastic! Now, run!

They sprint toward the exit as multiple ECHO FIGURES begin materializing throughout the warehouse.

FADE TO BLACK.

ACT ONE

INT. AUTOMAT - DAWN

Peggy and the Doctor sit in a corner booth. The Doctor gleefully pours an excessive amount of sugar into his tea.

PEGGY You still haven't properly explained what those things were. Or who you are.

THE DOCTOR I told you—temporal echoes. Fragments of potential futures. Someone or something is extracting moments from various possible timelines and manifesting them here.

PEGGY That's impossible.

THE DOCTOR Improbable, yes. Impossible, no. You've seen some rather impossible things already haven't you? Howard Stark's inventions? The... what did you call it? Zero Matter?

Peggy's eyes narrow.

PEGGY How could you possibly know about that? Those files are classified.

THE DOCTOR (leaning forward) Agent Carter, I travel in time. I've seen history unfold—the good, the bad, and the utterly bizarre. And right now, something is targeting you specifically. Your potential futures. Your choices.

PEGGY Why me?

THE DOCTOR That's what we need to find out. But I have a theory.

He pulls out a small device that projects a holographic image of branching lines.

THE DOCTOR Some people are what we call "fixed points"—their decisions ripple outward, affecting countless lives. From what I've seen, you're standing at a crossroads right now. Whatever you choose to do in the coming months will have... significant repercussions.

PEGGY (skeptical) I'm just an agent doing my job.

THE DOCTOR (smiling knowingly) You've never been "just" anything, Peggy Carter.

A WAITRESS approaches their table.

WAITRESS More coffee?

As she pours, Peggy notices her hand flicker momentarily, becoming transparent. The Doctor notices too, tensing.

THE DOCTOR (quietly) Don't react. That's another echo.

The "waitress" finishes pouring and steps away. The Doctor discreetly scans her with his sonic.

THE DOCTOR They're getting more sophisticated. Integrating into your reality.

PEGGY Who's "they"?

THE DOCTOR They call themselves The Observers. They exist outside normal time, studying critical moments in history. Usually they just... well, observe. But this is different. They're interfering.

PEGGY What do these "Observers" want with me?

THE DOCTOR I'm not entirely sure. But—

He's interrupted by the arrival of DANIEL SOUSA, who approaches their table.

SOUSA Peggy, we've got another situation. Three more reports of—

He notices the Doctor.

SOUSA (suspicious) Who's this?

PEGGY Dr. John Smith. Scientific consultant.

The Doctor extends his hand, which Sousa reluctantly shakes.

THE DOCTOR Lovely to meet you. Agent Sousa, isn't it?

SOUSA (to Peggy) How does he know my name?

PEGGY He's... well-informed. What's the situation?

SOUSA Three more agents reporting strange experiences. Thompson's acting bizarre—approved vacation requests for half the department. And this was found at each of their desks. He places a small, silver, egg-shaped device on the table.

THE DOCTOR (suddenly intense) Don't touch that!

He carefully scans it with his sonic.

THE DOCTOR Temporal influence device. The Observers use these to... nudge people toward specific decisions. To test potential outcomes.

SOUSA (bewildered) What is he talking about?

PEGGY It's complicated, Daniel. I'll explain later. Where's Chief Thompson now?

SOUSA His office. Signing transfer papers. He's reassigning himself to the field office in Alaska.

THE DOCTOR The Observers are experimenting—pushing people to make choices they normally wouldn't. Testing how flexible your timeline is.

PEGGY We need to get back to the SSR. Now.

INT. SSR OFFICE - DAY

The office is in disarray—agents packing belongings, signing papers, and making phone calls. JACK THOMPSON sits in his office, robotically signing documents.

Peggy, Sousa, and the Doctor enter.

PEGGY What's happening?

AGENT ROSE (bewildered) Everyone's requesting transfers or resignations. Even Agent Fisher—he's worked here fifteen years.

The Doctor scans the room with his sonic.

THE DOCTOR (quietly, to Peggy) Temporal influence everywhere. They're seeing what happens if the SSR disbands entirely.

Thompson notices them and approaches, moving stiffly.

THOMPSON Carter. Sousa. The paperwork for your transfers is on my desk.

PEGGY We're not transferring anywhere, Chief.

THOMPSON (mechanical tone) The SSR has fulfilled its wartime purpose. Time to move on.

The Doctor steps forward, examining Thompson closely.

THE DOCTOR Heavy influence. They've really done a number on him.

He suddenly presses his sonic screwdriver against Thompson's temple. Thompson freezes, then collapses. Sousa catches him.

SOUSA What did you do?!

THE DOCTOR Disrupted the temporal field around him. He'll be fine in a minute—back to his usual charming self, I imagine.

PEGGY Can you do that for everyone?

THE DOCTOR (gesturing around) One at a time? We'd be here all day. We need to find the source.

Thompson stirs, looking confused.

THOMPSON (groggy) Carter? What happened?

PEGGY You were about to explain why you're dismantling the SSR.

THOMPSON (confused) Was I? That's... that doesn't sound right.

The Doctor quietly scans the office, then points to a vent.

THE DOCTOR (whispering) There. Something's in the ventilation system.

INT. SSR HALLWAY - MOMENTS LATER

Peggy pries open a vent panel, revealing a pulsing silver device about the size of a toaster.

THE DOCTOR Temporal influence amplifier. Affects decision-making, and nudges people toward choices they wouldn't normally make.

He carefully removes it using his jacket.

PEGGY So everyone will return to normal now?

THE DOCTOR Should do, yes. But this is just one experiment. The Observers won't stop here.

SOUSA Will someone please explain what's going on?

PEGGY Daniel, I know this sounds impossible, but—

The building SHAKES suddenly. Lights flicker. The Doctor's eyes widen.

THE DOCTOR Oh, that's not good. Not good at all.

INT. SSR MAIN OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

They rush back to find the main office transformed. Parts of it appear normal, while other sections have changed dramatically—different furniture, technology, and even the walls shift between styles.

In the centre stands a tall, bald figure in a silver suit: THE OBSERVER. Its eyes are unnaturally large, its movements precise and deliberate.

THE OBSERVER Fascinating reactions. The subject timeline demonstrates remarkable resilience.

Agent Thompson approaches it, gun drawn.

THOMPSON Don't move! You're under arrest!

THE OBSERVER (turning to Thompson) Temporal variance identified.

It touches Thompson's forehead. He instantly freezes like a statue.

THE DOCTOR (stepping forward) That's enough! You know the laws of time observation. Non-interference!

THE OBSERVER (turning to the Doctor) Time Lord detected. Your presence creates a variable we did not anticipate.

PEGGY (to the Doctor) Time Lord?

THE DOCTOR Long story. (To the Observer) What exactly are you hoping to learn here?

THE OBSERVER This nexus point contains multiple diverging timelines of significant consequence. The human Margaret Carter stands at the centre of a temporal crossroads. Her decisions in the coming months will determine the security apparatus of this planet for centuries.

PEGGY (stunned) What?

THE OBSERVER We seek to understand how malleable this decision point remains. If influenced sufficiently, will the outcome change?

The Observer gestures, and part of the office SHIFTS again, revealing glimpses of alternative versions—in one section, it becomes a high-tech facility with the eagle emblem Peggy saw earlier.

THE DOCTOR (to Peggy) They're showing you potential futures. Paths you might take.

THE OBSERVER We have brought fragments of multiple timelines into convergence for study.

The Observer gestures again. Three MORE FIGURES appear—all Peggy, but from different times and places:

MILITARY PEGGY - In an Army uniform with general's stars. DOMESTIC PEGGY - In the 1950s housewife attire, the wedding ring was visible. DIRECTOR PEGGY - Older, authoritative, wearing the uniform with the eagle emblem.

THE OBSERVER Each represents a distinct probability branch.

Peggy stares at her alternate selves, speechless.

THE DOCTOR (angry) This is going too far. You're fracturing her timeline!

THE OBSERVER The experiment must reach completion.

The room begins to distort more dramatically as sections of different realities bleed into one another.

THE DOCTOR (to Peggy) We need to go. Now!

PEGGY I'm not leaving my agents!

THE DOCTOR There's nothing we can do for them here. We need to disrupt the Observers' temporal field generator.

PEGGY And where would that be?

THE DOCTOR (grinning despite the chaos) In my box. Come on!

He grabs her hand and pulls her toward the exit as reality continues to warp around them.

FADE TO BLACK.

ACT TWO

EXT. ALLEYWAY BEHIND SSR - DAY

The Doctor and Peggy burst out of the building as windows above them flicker between different time periods.

PEGGY The agents—we can't just leave them!

THE DOCTOR Time is fracturing around them. We can help them by stopping this at the source.

He leads her to the TARDIS, which sits inconspicuously in the alley.

PEGGY (staring at the police box) This is your plan? Hide in a telephone box?

THE DOCTOR It's not just any box.

He snaps his fingers and the door swings open, revealing the glowing interior. Peggy's jaw drops.

INT. TARDIS - CONTINUOUS

Peggy steps inside, her face a picture of disbelief. The Doctor follows, closing the door behind them.

PEGGY This is... this is impossible.

THE DOCTOR (grinning) I get that a lot.

He dashes to the console and begins working controls.

THE DOCTOR The TARDIS can track the Observers' temporal energy signature. Find their entry point into this timeline.

PEGGY (still processing) It's...

THE DOCTOR Bigger on the inside, yes. Time And Relative Dimension In Space. TARDIS.

Peggy slowly approaches the console.

PEGGY Who are you? Really?

The Doctor pauses, looking at her.

THE DOCTOR I'm a traveler. From very far away. I help where I can.

PEGGY And you've seen my future?

THE DOCTOR (carefully) Parts of it. Potential versions of it.

The TARDIS console BEEPS.

THE DOCTOR Got it! The Observers established their observation post nearby. Old factory building.

PEGGY Before we go—those versions of me. They're these possible futures?

THE DOCTOR (gentle) Every decision creates branches in time. Different paths we might take.

PEGGY The one with the eagle emblem—what was that?

The Doctor hesitates.

THE DOCTOR Peggy, knowing too much about your own future can be dangerous.

PEGGY I've never backed down from danger before. I won't start now.

The Doctor studies her, then nods.

THE DOCTOR You're standing at a crossroads. The SSR won't last forever. What comes next depends largely on you.

He flips a switch, and a holographic image appears—the eagle emblem.

THE DOCTOR In many potential futures, you help create something new. Something that lasts for decades. An organization that protects people from threats they never even know exist.

PEGGY (quietly) And what about the other versions of me?

THE DOCTOR In some timelines, you choose a different path. Military advancement. Or... a quieter life.

PEGGY (processing) And that's what the Observers are doing? Testing which path I'll take?

THE DOCTOR They're trying to understand how fixed your decision point is. How much influence it would take to push you toward one path or another.

The TARDIS suddenly SHAKES violently.

THE DOCTOR They've detected us! Holding pattern!

He pulls a lever and the shaking subsides.

PEGGY What now?

THE DOCTOR (thinking) They're studying you because your decision creates a pivot point in history. What if...

He looks at Peggy with sudden inspiration.

THE DOCTOR What if we show them exactly how fixed that point is?

PEGGY How?

THE DOCTOR (dramatic) By taking a little trip!

He yanks a lever. The TARDIS central column begins moving up and down as the familiar WHEEZING SOUND fills the air.

PEGGY (alarmed) What's happening?!

THE DOCTOR Hang on tight!

EXT. SPACE-TIME VORTEX

The TARDIS tumbles through the swirling colours of the time vortex.

INT. TARDIS - CONTINUOUS

Peggy grips the railing as the TARDIS shakes. The Doctor dances around the console, flipping switches.

THE DOCTOR Just a quick hop! A few decades forward!

PEGGY We're traveling in time? Actually, travelling?

THE DOCTOR (grinning) Best way to prove a point!

The TARDIS lands with a THUD.

THE DOCTOR Here we are! New York, 1965.

PEGGY (stunned) 1965?

THE DOCTOR Just a peek. Can't stay long—timelines and all that.

He gestures to the door. Peggy hesitates, then walks toward it.

EXT. NEW YORK STREET - DAY - 1965

Peggy steps out cautiously, the Doctor behind her. She stares in amazement at the changed city—the cars, the fashions, the skyline.

PEGGY It's really...

THE DOCTOR The future. Well, your future. My past. Time's complicated that way.

He leads her toward a tall building with minimal markings.

THE DOCTOR That's what we're here to see.

INT. BUILDING LOBBY - CONTINUOUS

The Doctor uses his psychic paper to get them past security. They enter an elevator.

THE DOCTOR (pressing a button) Small glimpse only. Enough to make my point to the Observers.

INT. OBSERVATION ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

The Doctor leads Peggy into a darkened room with a large window overlooking a conference room. Inside, a meeting is in progress.

Peggy gasps. Sitting at the head of the table is an older version of herself—DIRECTOR PEGGY, now in her 50s. She exudes authority as she addresses a room full of agents.

DIRECTOR PEGGY (muffled through glass) ... the foundation of SHIELD has always been to protect, not simply to react. We anticipated the Moscow incident because we maintained our principles...

PEGGY (whispered) SHIELD?

THE DOCTOR (quietly) Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. Bit of a mouthful. Someone really wanted it to spell "shield."

Peggy watches, transfixed, as her future self commands the room.

THE DOCTOR This is what the Observers are studying. This organization you create becomes pivotal to Earth's security for decades. It shapes how humanity responds to threats beyond anything the SSR ever imagined.

PEGGY I build this?

THE DOCTOR (smiling) With help. But yes, in most timelines, this is your legacy.

A SHIMMER appears in the air beside them. The Observer materializes.

THE OBSERVER This intervention violates protocols.

THE DOCTOR (confronting it) So does your experiment! You're fracturing time around a fixed point.

THE OBSERVER Our research indicates the point is not fixed. It is mutable.

THE DOCTOR (gesturing to the conference room) Look at her. In timeline after timeline, Peggy Carter chooses to build rather than retreat. Your experiments won't change that.

THE OBSERVER (studying Peggy) Subject exhibits remarkable temporal consistency across probability metrics.

PEGGY (stepping forward) I'm not a "subject." I'm a person making my own choices.

THE OBSERVER (tilting its head) Curious. Even when presented with alternative outcomes, subject orientation remains consistent.

THE DOCTOR That's what you're missing in your calculations. Some people choose the harder path not because they must, but because they believe they should.

The Observer suddenly stiffens.

THE OBSERVER Temporal paradox forming. The viewing of one's future creates causal loop instability.

The room begins to SHIMMER and distort.

THE DOCTOR (alarmed) We've stayed too long!

He grabs Peggy's arm, pulling her toward the door as reality begins to warp around them.

INT. TARDIS - MOMENTS LATER

They burst through the doors. The Doctor races to the console.

THE DOCTOR The paradox is collapsing both timelines! We need to get back to 1946 immediately!

He yanks levers frantically. The TARDIS shudders violently as it dematerializes.

EXT. SPACE-TIME VORTEX

The TARDIS tumbles through the vortex, now filled with fracturing rifts and distortions.

INT. TARDIS - CONTINUOUS

Sparks fly from the console. The Doctor works furiously.

PEGGY What's happening?!

THE DOCTOR The Observers' experiment plus our little field trip has created temporal fissures! The timeline is trying to correct itself!

The central column moves erratically.

THE DOCTOR Hold on! Emergency landing!

The TARDIS CRASHES with a violent jolt.

FADE TO BLACK.

ACT THREE

INT. TARDIS - LATER

Peggy awakens on the floor. The lights are dim, emergency lighting only. The Doctor is working beneath the console, surrounded by wires.

PEGGY (sitting up) What happened?

THE DOCTOR Temporal crash landing. The TARDIS is repairing herself, but it'll take time.

PEGGY Where are we? When are we?

THE DOCTOR (checking a reading) Still 1946. About twelve hours after we left. But...

He flips a switch, activating the viewscreen. Outside is New York, but distorted—buildings from different eras overlapping, people frozen in place, sections of street flickering between different decades.

THE DOCTOR The timeline is fracturing. The Observers' experiments plus our paradox have destabilized this entire period.

PEGGY How do we fix it?

THE DOCTOR We need to close the temporal fissures. The Observers have a device at their observation post—a Chronometric Stabilizer. We can use it to repair the damage.

PEGGY And if we don't?

THE DOCTOR (grave) Then 1946 becomes unstuck from time. Everything you know—everyone—gets scattered across different points in history. The SSR never evolves. SHIELD never forms.

PEGGY (determined) Then we'd better get moving.

EXT. NEW YORK STREET - DAY - DISTORTED

They emerge from the TARDIS into a nightmarish version of New York. Parts of the street are from the 1940s, others from the 1960s, and still others from decades even further ahead.

Some people stand frozen, others move in slow motion. Some areas flicker rapidly between different time periods.

THE DOCTOR (scanning with his sonic) The epicenter is this way. The old factory where the Observers set up their post.

They carefully navigate through the temporal chaos.

THE DOCTOR (continuing) We need to be careful. Time distortions can be unpredictable.

As if on cue, a section of the street before them suddenly shifts, becoming a bustling 1970s scene. People appear, moving normally, unaware of the distortion.

THE DOCTOR (pulling Peggy back) Temporal bubble! If we step into it, we could get trapped in that period.

They detour around it, only to face another challenge—a building that keeps shifting between being intact and bombed-out ruins.

PEGGY What's happening to that building?

THE DOCTOR (grim) Quantum uncertainty. In one timeline it survives, in another it's destroyed. Right now, both realities are trying to exist simultaneously.

As they continue, they encounter a familiar face—HOWARD STARK, looking confused as he examines a piece of technology that keeps changing in his hands.

PEGGY Howard!

Stark looks up, relieved.

HOWARD Peggy! What the hell is happening? My lab equipment keeps transforming into... future versions of itself?

The doctor scans the device in Howard's hands.

THE DOCTOR Ooh, fascinating! Temporal evolution of technology. That device becomes something quite impressive by 1979.

HOWARD (eyeing the Doctor) Who's your friend?

PEGGY It's complicated. Howard, we need your help.

HOWARD (grinning) When do you not?

THE DOCTOR (excited) Howard Stark! Brilliant! I've always wanted to meet you! Your work on atomic containment fields eventually leads to—

PEGGY (interrupting) Doctor. Spoilers?

THE DOCTOR (catching himself) Right. Yes. Sorry.

HOWARD (intrigued) You know my future work?

THE DOCTOR Let's just say your legacy is... substantial.

PEGGY Howard, we need to get to the old Roxon factory on East River Drive.

HOWARD I've got a car nearby. If it still exists in this... whatever this is.

EXT. DISTORTED STREET - CONTINUOUS

They make their way to Howard's car, which fortunately remains stable. As they drive, they navigate through patches of different time periods.

HOWARD (driving) So time is falling apart? And you two are going to fix it?

THE DOCTOR That's the plan! Temporal fissures can be sealed with the right equipment.

HOWARD (fascinated) And you're from...?

THE DOCTOR Another world, basically. Long story.

HOWARD (to Peggy) Where do you find these guys?

PEGGY They usually find me.

The car suddenly stalls as they enter a particularly unstable zone. Outside, fragments of different decades swirl together like a kaleidoscope.

THE DOCTOR (checking his sonic) We're close to the epicenter. The distortions are strongest here.

They exit the car cautiously.

INT. ABANDONED FACTORY - DAY

The interior of the factory exists in multiple states simultaneously—parts dilapidated as in 1946, parts renovated as in later decades, and parts completely futuristic.

In the centre stands a large, silver apparatus—the Observers' equipment. Several Observers move around it, making adjustments.

The trio hide behind machinery, observing.

THE DOCTOR (whispering) The Chronometric Stabilizer. That's what we need.

HOWARD (examining it from afar) Incredible technology. I've never seen anything like it.

THE DOCTOR And you won't for about 200 years.

PEGGY How do we get to it?

Before they can plan, a VOICE speaks behind them.

OBSERVER Time Lord. You have returned.

They spin to find an Observer watching them.

THE DOCTOR Your experiment has gone too far. Look around you—you're fracturing the timeline!

OBSERVER An unfortunate side effect. Our research continues.

THE DOCTOR (incredulous) Side effect? You're destroying causality itself!

PEGGY (stepping forward) You said you were studying my decisions? The paths I might take?

OBSERVER Correct. Your nexus point creates significant temporal divergence.

PEGGY Then let me make it simple for you. I choose to protect people. In whatever form that takes—the SSR, this SHIELD organization, whatever comes next. That's who I am. No amount of temporal manipulation will change that.

The Observer studies her.

OBSERVER Fascinating consistency. Subject maintains core directive across 94% of potential timelines.

THE DOCTOR She's not just a subject—she's a person! With choices that matter!

A RUMBLE shakes the building. Parts of it begin to dissolve into temporal energy.

THE DOCTOR (alarmed) The fractures are spreading! We don't have much time!

HOWARD (to the Observer) Your research is destroying our world! Call it off!

The Observer considers this.

OBSERVER The experiment has provided sufficient data. However, stabilization is now beyond our capability.

It gestures to the apparatus.

OBSERVER The Chronometric Stabilizer cannot contain the cascading fractures.

THE DOCTOR (determined) Maybe not alone. But if I connect it to the TARDIS...

He rushes to the apparatus, examining it.

THE DOCTOR Howard! I need your help! These connection points—they need to be reconfigured!

Howard joins him, immediately grasping the technology despite its advanced nature.

HOWARD (working quickly) Like this?

THE DOCTOR (impressed) Exactly! Brilliant!

As they work, more of the building begins to dissolve. Peggy confronts the Observer.

PEGGY You said you've been watching different versions of my future. Tell me—in how many do I give up when things get difficult?

The Observer tilts its head, processing.

OBSERVER Zero recorded instances.

PEGGY Then you already know how this ends.

She moves to help the Doctor and Howard, who are dismantling parts of the stabilizer.

THE DOCTOR We need to get this back to the TARDIS! It's our only chance to reset the timeline!

Another violent SHAKE. The factory begins collapsing around them.

HOWARD (as they gather components) If we make it out of this, you two owe me a proper explanation!

THE DOCTOR (grinning despite the danger) Deal!

They race toward the exit as reality continues to fracture around them.

EXT. DISTORTED STREETS - CONTINUOUS

They run through increasingly unstable streets, carrying pieces of the stabilizer. Entire buildings flicker in and out of existence.

THE DOCTOR The TARDIS is just ahead!

They see the blue box, seemingly the only stable point in the chaos.

INT. TARDIS - MOMENTS LATER

They burst inside. The Doctor immediately begins connecting the stabilizer components to the TARDIS console.

THE DOCTOR Howard, connect that coupling to the temporal matrix!

Howard works smoothly with the alien technology.

HOWARD (fascinated) The energy conversion rate on this system is incredible!

PEGGY (anxious) Is it working?

The Doctor flips switches, making adjustments.

THE DOCTOR Almost there... The TARDIS will amplify the stabilizer's effect, creating a temporal reset wave.

HOWARD (realizing) Wait—a reset? Will we remember any of this?

The Doctor pauses, looking at them both.

THE DOCTOR (gently) No. Time will reknit itself. These events will never have happened.

PEGGY (processing) So I won't remember what I saw? The future? SHIELD?

THE DOCTOR (approaching her) The specific memories, no. But Peggy—the person who builds that future is already who you are.

The TARDIS shudders as reality continues to collapse outside.

THE DOCTOR It's time. The reset will return everyone to the moment before the Observers arrive.

Howard steps back from the console, looking at the completed connections.

HOWARD (thoughtful) So we're about to save the world, and no one will ever know.

THE DOCTOR The best kind of heroism, in my experience.

Peggy approaches the Doctor.

PEGGY Before you activate this... I need to know something. You travel through time. You've seen things unfold. Does it work? This organization I apparently build—does it make a difference?

The Doctor looks at her with gentle sincerity.

THE DOCTOR More than you could possibly imagine. There are threats coming that the world isn't ready for. But because of you, because of SHIELD, humanity survives them. Again and again.

Peggy absorbs this, then nods resolutely.

PEGGY That's enough, then.

The TARDIS console BEEPS urgently.

THE DOCTOR We're out of time! Chronometric stabilization initiating!

He pulls a lever. The stabilizer components glow brightly, energy coursing through the TARDIS systems.

THE DOCTOR (quickly, to Howard) Mr Stark, it was an honour.

He turns to Peggy.

THE DOCTOR (with a smile) Agent Carter... Peggy... when you start building, remember: it's not the weapons or the walls that protect people. It's the principles. The shield you create will be strong because of who designs it.

A blinding light fills the TARDIS as the temporal energy surges.

FLASH TO WHITE.

ACT FOUR

INT. SSR OFFICE - MORNING

Peggy sits at her desk, suddenly looking up as if startled. Everything appears normal—agents working, Thompson barking orders. No sign of temporal disturbance.

Sousa approaches with coffee.

SOUSA You okay, Peg? You look like you've seen a ghost.

PEGGY (disoriented) I... just had the strangest feeling. Like déjà vu.

SOUSA (smiling) Too many late nights working, maybe?

PEGGY Perhaps.

She notices a folder on her desk she doesn't remember—labeled "STRATEGIC RESPONSE DIVISION: PROPOSAL." Her own handwriting.

PEGGY (to herself) Did I write this?

As she opens it, a small note falls out. Handwritten: "For the SHIELD you'll build. -The Doctor"

She stares at it, her brow furrowed. A memory tries to surface but can't quite form.

EXT. NEW YORK STREET - EVENING

Peggy walks home, still contemplating the strange note and the proposal draft she apparently wrote but doesn't remember writing.

She passes a narrow alley and hears a familiar WHEEZING, GROANING sound. Stopping, she looks down the alley but sees nothing.

For a moment, she almost remembers—a blue box, a man with a bow tie, glimpses of the future—but the memory slips away like a dream upon waking.

She continues walking but with renewed purpose.

INT. PEGGY'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Peggy sits at her desk, working on the proposal. We see the title page: "STRATEGIC HOMELAND INTERVENTION, ENFORCEMENT AND LOGISTICS DIVISION."

A knock at her door. She opens it to find Howard Stark.

HOWARD (entering without invitation) Carter, I had the strangest dream last night. You and I and some fellow with a bow tie were saving the world from... time breaking apart?

Peggy freezes.

PEGGY You dreamt that too?

HOWARD (surprised) Too? So I'm not going mad?

PEGGY I've been having... fragments. Glimpses of something I can't quite remember.

Howard notices the proposal on her desk.

HOWARD (reading the title) "Strategic Homeland..." Wait, this was in my dream! SHIELD, he called it.

PEGGY Who?

HOWARD The man with the bow tie. Doctor something.

Peggy picks up the note she found earlier and shows it to Howard.

HOWARD (reading) "For the SHIELD you'll build." That's his handwriting!

PEGGY So it wasn't just a dream?

HOWARD (excited) Maybe not. And in this not-dream, I saw technology that gave me about a dozen new ideas. I've been sketching designs all morning.

He pulls out a notebook filled with rough drawings of advanced devices.

PEGGY Howard, I've been thinking. The SSR was built for the war. But the world is changing. We need something more comprehensive. Something that can address threats we haven't even imagined yet.

HOWARD (nodding) A shield, not just a sword.

PEGGY Exactly.

HOWARD (gesturing to her proposal) Well, let's get to work then. The future won't build itself.

As they begin discussing the proposal, the CAMERA PULLS BACK, showing the room from outside the window.

EXT. STREET OUTSIDE PEGGY'S APARTMENT - CONTINUOUS

The Doctor stands across the street, watching them. He smiles, satisfied.

THE DOCTOR (to himself) Some points in time can be rewritten. And some rewrites themselves.

He turns and walks toward the TARDIS, parked inconspicuously in a side street.

INT. TARDIS - MOMENTS LATER

The Doctor enters, closing the door behind him. He moves to the console, about to set coordinates, when he notices something on the scanner—a newspaper headline about strange disappearances in 1938 New York.

His expression clouds momentarily with grief.

THE DOCTOR (softly) New York in the 30s and 40s. Always did have a complicated relationship with this city.

He touches a photo of AMY and RORY from an earlier adventure, pinned to the console.

THE DOCTOR (continuing) I should have asked her to look out for you both. But then... maybe some threads are better left untugged.

He pauses, then smiles sadly.

THE DOCTOR Goodbye, Agent Carter. Director Carter, soon enough.

He sets the coordinates and pulls the dematerialization lever. The familiar WHEEZING SOUND fills the TARDIS as it disappears.

EXT. NEW YORK STREET - CONTINUOUS

The blue box fades away, leaving only the echo of its engines in the night air.

INT. PEGGY'S APARTMENT - CONTINUOUS

Peggy pauses in her conversation with Howard, going to the window as if she heard something. The street below is empty.

HOWARD Something wrong?

PEGGY (thoughtful) No... just thought I heard... never mind.

She returns to the table, picking up a pen.

PEGGY So, Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

HOWARD (grimacing) Bit of a mouthful.

PEGGY (with a knowing smile) We'll call it SHIELD.

FADE OUT.

INT. SSR ARCHIVES - ONE WEEK LATER

Peggy searches through files, finding references to strange occurrences in 1938—disappearances, sightings of "weeping angel" statues.

As she reads, she finds a newspaper clipping with a photo of a couple—a man and woman in 1938 clothing. Something about them seems familiar.

The caption reads: "Local nurse Rory Williams and his wife, author Amelia Williams, at hospital fundraiser."

Peggy stares at their faces, feeling a strange connection she can't explain.

She removes a small notebook and writes: "Find the Williams couple in '38. Message from the Doctor?"

EXT. CEMETERY - AFTERNOON - 1938

A brief glimpse of AMY and RORY walking through a New York cemetery, happily adjusted to their new life.

They pass a woman in period clothing who stops and watches them. It's PEGGY, several years younger than we've seen her.

FADE IN: EXTPEGGY (approaching) Excuse me... Mr. and Mrs. Williams?

They turn, surprised.

RORY Yes?

PEGGY This will sound strange, but... I have a message for you. From someone who calls himself "the Raggedy Man."

Amy's eyes widen in shock and emotion.

AMY (breathless) What's the message?

PEGGY He said to tell you that he understands now. And that he says hello.

Tears fill Amy's eyes as Rory puts an arm around her.

AMY (emotional) Thank you.

PEGGY I don't understand what it means, but... he seemed to think it was important you knew.

AMY (smiling through tears) It is. More than you know.

As Peggy walks away, Amy and Rory hold each other, looking up at the sky. In the intervening years that follow, Peggy keeps an eye on the couple and even attends their funerals.

AMY (whispering) Goodbye, Doctor.

FADE TO BLACK.
