So here I am, completely frozen in fear as I sit near inches away from you.

frozen in place, you haven't moved an inch in almost two days...your flesh is pale and your scent has changed..I could smell the sickness that lingers...and each day since you've collapsed it's just continued to spread.

I haven't left your side, I haven't removed from my spot since the day everything happened.

recalling that day...makes me emotionally weak.

FLASH BACK

" why can't I come?" Kagome asked sorta hurt that Inuyasha would even suggest that she stay back instead of accompanying him.

" what do you mean why, your sick" he spat out. " even if you did come you'd slow me down, I can't focus on engaging the enemy and worry about you at the same damn time "

she was confused by his statement, she didn't feel sick so what was he talking about.

" I think you're mistaken, I don't feel sick at all"

she said.

Inuyasha huffed and turned to glance back at her as if not believing her, " stop trying to play mind games with me, I've been noticing it for days. Your barely eating, I've heard you last night coughing your lungs out your flushed and on top of that your dragging, don't sit there and tell me your not sick, " he said a little too loudly.

she was still confused despite what he just told her she honestly hasn't felt any different then she normally did, except maybe had less of an appetite and been kinda tired but otherwise she felt okay.

" But...I don't feel..." Inuyasha raised a hand to stop her from finishing what she was about to say. " enough, you're staying here. no ands or buts about it. " with that being said Inuyasha turned away and receded to walk out the door"

END OF FLASHBACK

But he didn't know she was going to disobey his orders and come looking for him anyway,

and because she went looking for him she became worse.

He knew why she followed behind, cause the night of the new moon was literally around the corner and Kagome knew that Inuyasha was venerable and an easier target with demons when he was in his human state.

Not that saying that he still wasn't strong or dependable, he was just less indestructible. She was worried about him and he understood that, but seeing her in the condition that she's in now had him upset.

The door opened and the elder priestess came in carrying a wicker basket of medical herbs. " has her state changed since I left Inuyasha?"

he shook his head not even looking at her but remained focused on Kagome's breathing.

" don't ye fret, she'll start feeling better within a day or two" the elder priestess reassuring the anxious half demon.

" she should've just stayed back like I told her too... damn it why can't this woman just LISTEN instead of being reckless. " he huffed out and then his head dropped again, bangs now shadowing his face.

"Inuyasha...if I may...how long has it been since you and Kagome celebrated your coupling?"

he was taken back by the question and wasn't understanding why it was even brought up. " about 3 months, why?"

The elder priestess nodded. She got up and gathered some medicinal herbs and started brewing a concoction.

The smell of whatever it was that she was making was foul... Inuyasha had no choice but to cover his sensitive nose with his sleeve. " What In the living hell are you making ya old hag?..." he coughed a few times " how's this medicinal medicine going to help Kagome when the smell alone almost knocks me out"

" I think...I may know what's wrong with our dear Kagome"

Inuyasha raised a curious brow ." and ...what's that?"

She dipped her hands into the medicine and gently started applying it to Kagome's abdomen. She looked up at Inuyasha and then back down to Kagome and...shut her eyes resting her hand above her stomach. A blue light, pure of energy enveloped Kagome's body...then as quickly as it began it was over.

Old lady Kaede stood. now certain of what's wrong. She moved over to Inuyasha grabbing his hand. " Listen closely Inuyasha...what I'm about to tell you may be shocking and before I do so I need you to promise me...that after today that Kagome remains stress free and safe...and not cause a commotion or a scene whenever she wakes from her slumber..will ye promise me? can you do me these simple tasks"

Inuyasha didn't know how to respond back to such a weird yet confusing request. He looked down at his hand and back at the elder priestess and raised a confused brow at her begging statement and wondered why she'd ask this of him.

he rolled his eyes " SURE, SURE whatever now tell me, what's wrong with kagome.?" he demanded.

Kaede looked worrisome at the half demon not quite trusting his words, she huffed and closed her one eye...her face beaming with concern. seconds went by and still she continued her gaze

" OUT WITH IT KAEDE...I'M BOUT READY TO LOSE MY DAMN MIND" he barked.

" why you ungrateful mongrel"...she shook her head and mumbled...not saying anything more she grabbed his hand and placed it down on Kagome's stomach.

NEEDLES to say, Inuyasha was completely bewildered by the notion...not understanding he started to speak then Kaede stopped him.

" You may be blessed with looks but when it comes to knowledge, your lacking" she said in a crackled voice

" YOU CALLIN' ME STUPID YA OLD HAG?" he yelled at her balling up his fist shaking it at her.

" I, I am... considering you didn't take into consideration your mates pregnant state."

His breathe hitched

The world stopped turning and the words rang and repeated themselves in his head... thinking back he should've recognized the signs. He picked up the differences with Sango and all three of her pregnancies.. why couldn't he pick up the changes in Kagome besides picking up the smell of sickness.

Their coupling...the last time him and Kagome had any actual privacy was a few months ago...and yeah they're married and mates so it's only normal that from time to time they'd come together and... make love.

Remembering that night made Inuyasha blush. He shook his head and remained quiet, he looked down at his hand that was sprawled out on Kagome's stomach...he wasn't surprised when he saw his own hand quiver. " Per... pregnant" The words stumbled from his lips.

The elder priestess watched as Inuyasha froze and began to nervously remove his hand from her abdomen.

His hand came back to his side and he balled up his fist, his throat kinda constricted and swallowing was hard. He shook his head and got up to his feet and staggered out the door... barely able to breathe.

Kaede hurried after him not understanding his reaction. Once outside she watches as Inuyasha's legs give out and he kinda just crumbles to the ground.

" She's been pregnant this whole time and I...I didn't know...I didn't even see the signs...her scent didn't change like Sangos did...she went out looking for me, worried... pregnant. It's all my fault I should've just stayed back knowing me going out on the day the moon wasn't visible was just gonna cause her to stress.." He was shocked with grief...

" How are you at fault Inuyasha..I don't even think she was aware" Kaede said

Inuyasha shook his head in denial. " If I WOULD'VE stayed, she wouldn't have gone looking for me. "

After a few brief moments of self blame, Inuyasha heard something...His eyes bolted open and he pushed himself up to his knees... waiting.

" I'm not sure if I'm losing my mind or not but...I think I just heard..my name being called"

They both hurried back inside the hut and became frantic when they saw Kagome laying there and her eyes open.

" what happened why am I back at Kaeda's." she looked over at Inuyasha who looked strangely pale compared to his normal sun kissed tanned skin completion. " Inuyasha? " she tried to sit up but a wave of nausea came at her and she quickly laid back down.

He went and sat down by her, grabbing her hand and holding it lightly " Take an easy Kagome, you just woke up" he said in a concerning voice. She looked at him and looked over at the elder priestess and back at Inuyasha.

" why are you all acting so strangely?" She asked

Inuyasha's gaze went from warm to cool. " Kagome you've been out of it for almost 3 days now" he voice cracked when he said it.

Kagome's eyes widened " THREE DAYS." she yelled out again trying to spring up but was forced back down by Inuyasha

Kaede came and sat down at the other end. She cleared her throat and began to speak.

" you went out looking for Inuyasha cause it was the night of the new moon...do ye remember?"

Kagome glanced at Inuyasha who turned his head away..he looked somewhat fearful.

" yes... I remember" she said quietly.

Inuyasha's head snapped back and his brows were narrowed.

" I was worried....cause I knew it was the day he lost his demonic powers... " she looked up at him again and this time she could see his eyes start to weld.

" WHY DIDN'T YOU LISTEN" he said out loud. His hand tightened on hers. " Why didn't you stay when I asked you too...why'd you come out looking for me KNOWING it was dangerous?...you could've gotten seriously hurt or worse... if I would've been any later you and the bab..." he closed his eyes and looked away. Kagome wanted him to finish his sentence he was getting ready to say something but he stopped and now she was curious.

" me and what? " she asked

Kaede cleared her throat " Kagome...the night you went out looking for Inuyasha..was you feeling sick at all? "

Kagome shook her head. " I just felt tired and didn't have much of an appetite."

" what about nauseated? did you feel like vomiting at all?"

Kagome thought back and recalled a day where she was cooking fish and the smell made her feel uneasy and nauseous. There was also another bout of if the day she and Sango went out to gather dinner. " Once or twice"

Inuyasha wanted to scream..she never told him about this...why didn't she tell him?

Kaede looked at Inuyasha who very much looked like he was about ready to knock a hold in the wall..she shook her head at him trying to remind him that Kagome doesn't need the extra stress. He took a big breath in and exhaled trying to calm himself

" Kagome... You're with child" Kaede said

Her eyes became big, then her expression went from worried, scared, excited and back to worried again...

She shook her head and didn't believe it. " Your... mistaken...if I was pregnant I would've been able to tell the difference right? I would've felt different wouldn't I ? there's no way I'm pregnant." she sat up fighting off the urge to throw up and with Shakey limbs got to her feet. " You mean to tell me I was pregnant the whole time and I unknowingly risked not just myself but my unborn child ?" Guilt shadowed over her face and her eyes began to water.

Inuyasha went to her and gathered her into his arms " None of this...is your fault Kagome, NONE of it, You understand me. " he whispered into her hair and his grip loosened. " If anyone's to blame it's me" he said in a horsed tone .

" But why?..." she spoke sniffling back tears

" Because if I would've stayed...you wouldn't have gone looking for me"
