Father's Day
Mortu looked down at the paper card he held in the hands of his exosuit. It wasn't evenly folded, things weren't glue down well and were unevenly cut. The drawings and writing on it were clumsy at best. And it looked like a little bit of food or juice might have gotten on a corner.
"What is this?" he asked curiously, looking over at the small mutated crocodile that was looking up at him with hopeful eyes, his tail swishing anxiously, and the Utrom teacher hovering beside him.
"We have been studying Earth holidays, particularly ones of this country," he said. "We recently studied Father's Day and Leatherhead wanted to make a card for you. It seemed to be a good way to engage with the holiday and to practice his fine motor skills."
Mortu knew that Leatherhead was still having some trouble with his fine motor skills, so he had to agree that this was a good use of them. He hadn't expected to be given a gift as Leatherhead's father, though.
Then again, he had been quite involved since the little crocodile's mutation, making sure that he was getting all that he needed and was cared for. Like a father.
Ah.
Mortu knelt down so that his actual face was more eye level with the small boy. "Thank you. It is a wonderful gift."
The boy's eyes lit up, and he let out a chirp as he rushed forward to hug Mortu, rubbing his face on the Utrom. Mortu both closed the exosuit's arms around him in a hug, and patted the boy's face with his own tentacles.
Yes. A wonderful gift indeed.
