Arc 2: Taki/Iwa Peace Treaty Arc
Chapter 14: Awakening Resolve
The Blue Devil Shinobi's chakra radiated a heavy, oppressive force that weighed on everyone's shoulders. Naruto, Sasuke, and Keiko each took their stances, feeling the impact of his words sink in.
Kakashi studied the Blue Devil closely, recognizing that this wasn't just a challenge. He's here to expose their weaknesses, Kakashi realized.
"Everyone, stay alert and work together!" Kakashi commanded, his voice steady as he prepared himself to intervene if needed.
Naruto clenched his fists, his sky-blue eyes sharp as they switched to his red Sharingan eyes. I'll show him we're not weak, he thought, focusing on his taijutsu and ninjutsu skills, fully aware that he wasn't as versed in clone techniques.
Beside him, Sasuke took a more guarded stance. Though he lacked certain advanced jutsu, his Sharingan gave him keen insight into their opponent's moves. He knew his strength lay in precision, so he waited for an opening, prepared to support Naruto with well-placed strikes.
Keiko, standing just behind them, was alert, observing her teammates' coordination. Naruto and Sasuke's teamwork is strong I don't think anyone can match it, she noted, impressed. I'll match their pace and cover any gaps.
Naruto moved first, closing in on the Blue Devil with impressive speed. He launched into a series of direct punches and kicks, aiming to keep his opponent on the defensive. But the Blue Devil was unfazed, countering each move with effortless precision, his expression unreadable.
Sasuke joined Naruto, coming in from the side to throw off the Blue Devil's balance. He launched a high kick toward their opponent's shoulder, forcing him to shift and focus on multiple angles. The Blue Devil deflected Sasuke's kick, his gaze shifting just enough to give Naruto an opening.
Naruto saw his chance and pivoted quickly, dropping into a low sweeping kick aimed at the Blue Devil's legs. But the Blue Devil sidestepped the attack, catching Naruto's ankle in a firm grip and flipping him to the ground.
Keiko sprang into action, aiming a powerful punch at the Blue Devil's shoulder, but he twisted out of her reach with ease, evading her attack. She kept her guard up, quickly adjusting her stance as the Blue Devil retaliated with a swift jab. She barely dodged, the force of his strike grazing her.
The Blue Devil's smirk faded, his eyes narrowing as he addressed them. "You're persistent, but that's not enough." His eyes turned to Kakashi. "Hatake, this is the best they can do under your guidance?"
Kakashi met his gaze steadily. "They're doing just fine," he replied, though he understood the criticism hidden within the Blue Devil's words.
The Blue Devil's chakra flared again, his Sharingan blazing through the eye holes of his mask as he escalated his attacks. He shifted into a series of rapid strikes, pressing each of them to their limits, forcing Naruto, Sasuke, and Keiko to respond to his relentless assault.
Despite their best efforts, the Blue Devil was always one step ahead, reading their movements and countering with precision. As he moved through the trio's defenses, he threw in sudden, unpredictable strikes, testing their reflexes.
Kurotsuchi, watching from the sidelines, could no longer hold back. Concern broke through her usual confident facade. "Naruto!" she called, her voice tense with worry.
Distracted by her voice, Naruto glanced toward her just long enough for the Blue Devil to land a tap on his shoulder, unbalancing him. "Kurotsuchi! Stay back!" he shouted, refocusing as he steadied himself.
Sakura, watching beside Kurotsuchi, clenched her fists, her gaze hardening. She respected her teammates' focus and trusted in the training, but Kurotsuchi's interference struck a nerve.
The Blue Devil's words echoed in Naruto's mind. "You think you'll be able to defeat Itachi Uchiha with that level of power? You're mistaken."
Naruto's resolve flared anew, his Sharingan blazing with determination as he steadied himself and took a deep breath. He pushed himself off the ground, ready to face the Blue Devil once more, unwilling to back down. Each of them knew this challenge was far from over.
Naruto, Sasuke, Keiko, and Kakashi tightened their formation, each moving in sync as they unleashed a wave of combined attacks.
"Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!" Naruto called out, sending a flurry of small, controlled fireballs toward the Blue Devil. Sasuke followed suit, weaving hand signs and adding his own power. "Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"
The air crackled with heat as the flames surged toward the Blue Devil, forcing him back. But his movements were smooth, his eyes reading each attack as he dodged, sidestepped, and deflected. Just as he evaded a particularly large fireball from Sasuke, Keiko followed up with her own Earth Style jutsu, slamming her hands onto the ground.
"Earth Style: Stone Pillar Jutsu!" she called, causing jagged stone columns to burst up around the Blue Devil, boxing him in. The Blue Devil twisted to avoid the rising pillars, narrowly escaping their reach, but his expression remained calm, focused. Keiko's pillars were closing in, but in one swift motion, he shattered the nearest one with a powerful kick.
Kakashi took advantage of the distraction, flashing through hand signs. "Earth Style: Earth Dragon Bullet!" A massive dragon of rock and mud surged forward, joining the barrage from the team. The Blue Devil leapt, dodging, but the dragon's tail grazed him, leaving a trail of dust in its wake.
Kakashi continued his assault, his Sharingan fixed intently on the Blue Devil. Just as Kakashi was about to press forward, the Blue Devil shifted, moving faster than they could anticipate. He closed the gap in an instant and, with a powerful kick, sent Kakashi flying. Kakashi's body collided with a tree, the impact causing him to slump to the ground, unconscious.
Naruto, Sasuke, and Keiko tensed as they realized the severity of the situation. With Kakashi down, the battle had turned, and they knew this fight would only grow harder from here.
Sasuke's eyes narrowed as he launched another fireball directly at the Blue Devil, determined to maintain the pressure. The Blue Devil dodged effortlessly, his gaze flickering toward the edge of the battlefield. With a sudden, calculated movement, he redirected Sasuke's fireball, sending it arcing toward Kurotsuchi and Sakura.
Kurotsuchi's eyes widened, but she acted quickly, slamming her hands together. "Earth Style: Mud Wall!" she called out, raising a solid wall of earth that absorbed the impact of the fireball, the flames dispersing against it in a wave of heat.
The Blue Devil's attention turned back to Sasuke, a glint of intent in his eyes. Before Sasuke could react, the ground beneath him shifted, and thick wooden tendrils burst up, wrapping around him and immobilizing him in place.
Sasuke struggled, his hands trapped by the dense wood as he tried to break free. "Wood Style?" he muttered, his eyes widening in realization.
Keiko glanced at Naruto, urgency in her voice. "Naruto, buy me some time!"
Naruto nodded, his resolve hardening. "Got it."
With that, he charged toward the Blue Devil, engaging him in close-quarters combat. His punches and kicks were swift and precise, each movement designed to keep the Blue Devil occupied, to stall him just long enough for Keiko's next move.
Naruto steadied himself, his breath heavy as he struggled to hold his ground. After buying time for Keiko, he had been mercilessly swatted aside by the Blue Devil, his body sent sprawling. Kurotsuchi and Sakura dashed over to him and Sasuke, their faces etched with worry as they helped the boys to their feet.
Keiko, however, had risen to her own challenge. She stood a few paces from the Blue Devil, her eyes transformed as her Mangekyo Sharingan blazed with newfound intensity. Dark patterns spun within her eyes, and she lifted her hands, revealing the strange markings of her Kopitatchi technique, heightened by her Mangekyo's power.
The Blue Devil's lips curved into a chilling smile as he observed her, shifting his stance and drawing in nature energy, his chakra flaring ever so subtly. He raised a brow, intrigued by the sight of her Mangekyo. "Finally showing me something interesting, Keiko?"
Keiko clenched her fists, the energy radiating from her Mangekyo mixing with her Kopitatchi as she charged forward. The two began to trade blows, their movements a dizzying blur as Keiko unleashed her newfound strength. Each punch she landed seemed to shake the air, her abilities elevated by the Mangekyo, and her strikes resonating with intensity.
But soon, Keiko felt an odd sensation creeping through her. Her hands felt heavier with each punch, her energy draining at an alarming rate. She staggered slightly, her vision blurring. The Blue Devil chuckled, sidestepping her next attack with ease.
"You haven't realized, have you?" he taunted, his voice a cold whisper. "Your precious Kopitatchi is absorbing nature energy from me. You can't handle it, can you?"
Keiko grit her teeth, letting out a frustrated grunt. She knew she couldn't keep fighting like this, not with her technique betraying her. With a final, determined breath, she released the Kopitatchi, the markings fading from her hands. But the Blue Devil was finished toying with her.
"Enough," he said coldly, raising his hand. In an instant, a Rasengan whirled to life in his palm—a technique that was shocking to both her and the barely conscious Kakashi, who watched in stunned disbelief from the sidelines.
The Blue Devil drove the Rasengan into Keiko with brutal precision, sending her hurtling back. She crashed to the ground, her body slamming into the earth with a force that sent dust and debris into the air.
Naruto forced himself back to his feet, a new resolve burning in his gaze as he looked at the downed Keiko. I can't hold back any longer, he thought, remembering his own forbidden jutsu. Last time, it was too much to control, but if there was ever a time…
Naruto formed the hand signs, calling upon the darkest corners of his chakra. The Blue Devil noticed his actions and smirked, effortlessly mirroring his movements. Both hands began to swirl with a dark, seething energy, a black and purple inferno igniting as they faced each other.
They charged at each other, both shouting in unison: "Dark Style: Dark Soul Inferno!"
The energy in their hands exploded into fierce black and purple flames, a violent blaze of dark chakra clashing between them. The Blue Devil leaned forward, his gaze piercing as he locked eyes with Naruto. "You are going to disappoint your mother with this level of power!" he sneered.
Naruto's anger flared, and he pushed harder, but his Dark Soul Inferno began to grow unstable. The flames twisted and contorted wildly, expanding beyond his control.
In a deafening explosion, the unstable jutsu detonated, sending both shinobi flying back. Naruto was thrown violently to the ground, his body collapsing as he finally succumbed to exhaustion and injury. Across from him, the Blue Devil was knocked to one knee, a dark laugh escaping his lips as he steadied himself.
The echo of his laughter cut through the smoke-filled air, a grim reminder that this fight was far from over.
The distant roar of an explosion shook the air, sending shockwaves through the surrounding forest. Roshi, Fu, and Mito stopped in their tracks, their senses immediately alert. Without a word, they exchanged glances, understanding the urgency, and raced toward the site of the blast.
Meanwhile, Kakashi staggered to his feet, his entire body trembling from the impact of the explosion and his injuries. His Sharingan eye focused on the Blue Devil, who was now standing, seemingly unfazed by the devastation he had caused. Despite the pain wracking his body, Kakashi managed to speak, his voice rough but demanding, "How… do you know the Rasengan?"
The Blue Devil's lips twisted into a mocking grin. "That, my dear Cyclops, is for me to know… and you to never understand." He chuckled darkly, his amusement evident.
Before Kakashi could press further, three powerful presences emerged from the shadows. Roshi, Fu, and Mito entered the battlefield, their eyes scanning the scene with hardened determination. The Blue Devil's gaze shifted to them, his expression quickly turning cold with disdain.
"Ah, if it isn't the filthy beasts' containers," he sneered, his voice dripping with contempt.
Roshi placed a steady hand on Fu's shoulder, speaking in a low, calming tone, "Remember your training. Stay focused."
But Mito's attention was elsewhere. Her eyes had locked onto Naruto's unconscious form sprawled on the ground, his body battered and lifeless. Time seemed to freeze as her gaze fixed on him, her heart pounding in her chest. A chilling silence consumed her as a fierce, protective rage built within her.
Without warning, Mito's chakra erupted, enveloping her in a blazing aura of crimson. Her body transformed as the chakra took shape, forming the unmistakable cloak of the Six-Tails, her rage amplifying the power of the Kyubi within her. Her roar shattered the tense silence, echoing across the battlefield.
The Blue Devil's eyes narrowed. Six tails? This early? He thought. He could see this was a fight he didn't want to take head-on. He would have to play this carefully, knowing he was now at a disadvantage against Mito's unleashed fury.
With a snarl, Mito launched herself at him, her movements wild and relentless. The Blue Devil's Mangekyo Sharingan spun, allowing him to predict her erratic strikes, but each dodge grew closer as her fury increased. He weaved and twisted, narrowly avoiding her attacks, the air hissing from the force of her strikes.
Roshi and Fu quickly joined Mito's assault, their chakra flaring as they shifted into their tailed beast forms. Roshi's fiery aura of the Four-Tails joined Fu's water-infused power, each of them unleashing strikes at the Blue Devil. He reacted swiftly, raising his hands and calling upon his wood style to erect a forest of wooden tendrils, hoping to bind the Jinchuriki in place and drain their tailed beast chakra.
But to his shock, Mito instinctively unleashed her own wood-style powers, canceling out his technique. His wooden restraints cracked and splintered under the influence of her energy, leaving him vulnerable as the three Jinchuriki closed in.
Realizing he was running out of options, the Blue Devil concentrated, summoning one of his most destructive techniques. "Hakai no Kaze!" he bellowed, unleashing a tempest of slicing winds that tore through the air, halting Roshi and Fu in their tracks as the powerful gusts cut through their defenses.
But Mito, now bearing the chakra cloak of the Seven-Tails, surged forward undeterred. Her eyes, feral and unrestrained, reflected her singular purpose—to obliterate the Blue Devil. The Kyubi's influence had fully overtaken her mind, fueling her unbridled rage.
Thinking quickly, the Blue Devil drew a slip of paper from his robes and began etching a seal with his blood-soaked fingertip, his hand steady despite the chaos around him. Dodging Mito's strikes, he completed the intricate design on the paper. With a swift motion, he leaped at her and slapped the Bijuu Constricting Chakra Seal onto her forehead.
Mito's body jerked violently, her chakra cloak flickering as the seal took effect. Her rage-filled growls softened, and her chakra dissipated, the cloak melting away as she collapsed to the ground, unconscious. The Blue Devil stepped back, breathing heavily, the exertion finally catching up to him. He muttered to himself, "I wasn't… prepared for that…"
His thoughts were abruptly cut short as a sudden crackling filled the air. Kakashi was upon him, lightning sparking around his hand as he thrust forward with a Chidori.
Reacting instinctively, the Blue Devil barely managed to twist out of the way, the lightning grazing his side. He turned to face Kakashi, his expression darkening. "You'll have to train them harder if they want to stand a chance," he sneered, brushing off the blood from the Chidori's near-hit. "Besides, I am still waiting to see something amazing happen in Naruto and Sasuke both," he added. Kakashi wondered what he meant.
With a final mocking glance, he vanished into the shadows, leaving the battlefield littered with the wounded, and Kakashi standing in silent resolve.
The battlefield was a desolate wasteland. The once-pristine training grounds of Iwagakure, surrounded by towering cliffs and lush greenery, were now nothing but scorched earth and shattered stone. Craters dotted the landscape, blackened by flames and still smoking from the aftermath of jutsu. Trees that once stood tall and proud were reduced to charred stumps, their ashes drifting on the faint breeze. The eerie silence was broken only by the faint groans of the injured and the crackling of lingering embers.
Kakashi Hatake sat slumped against a large boulder, his body trembling with exhaustion and pain. His breathing was ragged, his vision blurred as he scanned the scene. His Sharingan eye burned from overuse, and his mind raced, replaying the fight that had left his entire team defeated. The words of their mysterious attacker echoed in his mind:
"Besides, I am still waiting to see something amazing happen in Naruto and Sasuke both."
Kakashi's gaze shifted to his students. Sasuke was the first to stir, his body battered but his spirit still unbroken. Slowly, the boy pushed himself to his feet, his knees shaking as he fought to stay upright. His onyx eyes, burning with defiance, flickered to Naruto, who lay unconscious nearby. His cousin's usually vibrant face was pale, and his arm was badly burned, still smoldering from the Blue Devil's final attack.
"Sasuke…" Kakashi croaked, his voice hoarse. "Don't push yourself. You're still injured."
Sasuke didn't respond immediately. He took a shaky step forward, his gaze fixed on Naruto's motionless form. He saw Kurotsuchi comforting Naruto Uchiha. A flicker of emotion crossed his face—worry, guilt, and frustration all tangled together. But before Sasuke could say anything, a powerful voice cut through the stillness.
"What the hell happened here?"
The air seemed to grow heavier as Ōnoki, the Tsuchikage, descended from above, his short figure somehow emanating an imposing presence. His sharp eyes swept across the devastated training grounds, lingering on the injured shinobi scattered around. Kurotsuchi knelt beside Naruto, cradling his head in her lap, her expression a mix of worry and anger. The unconscious forms of Roshi, Fu, and Mito were scattered nearby, their chakra reserves depleted from their failed attempts to stop the enigmatic enemy.
Ōnoki's gaze turned to Kakashi, his expression demanding answers. "Kakashi Hatake, what in the world happened here? Who could have done this?"
Kakashi sighed, pushing himself upright despite the pain that wracked his body. He met Ōnoki's gaze with a grim expression. "A mysterious enemy appeared. He was… unlike anything I've faced before. Strong, fast, and ruthless. He defeated all of us, including the Jinchuriki, with calculated precision."
Ōnoki's eyes narrowed, disbelief flickering across his face. "You're telling me this team—this 'mega team'—was completely overwhelmed? By one man?" His voice carried both shock and incredulity. "Who could possibly wield such power?"
Kakashi hesitated for a moment, his mind replaying the image of their foe. The man's presence had been suffocating, his movements precise and lethal. The Sharingan had glowed ominously behind his mask, and his mastery over ninjutsu and taijutsu was unparalleled.
"He wore a mask," Kakashi began, his voice steady despite the pain. "It was intricately engraved with seals—likely to conceal his identity. He was dressed in black pants and ninja sandals, a mesh shirt beneath a dark blue T-shirt, and a long blue overcoat with more intricate seals stitched along the hem. His Sharingan was unmistakable—two red eyes glowing with a malevolent intensity."
Ōnoki's frown deepened. "Sharingan?" he muttered, his tone laced with suspicion. "Another Uchiha?"
Kakashi nodded slowly. "It's possible. But whoever he is, his skills are on a level I've rarely encountered. He should be classified as a 'flee-on-sight' target."
The weight of Kakashi's words hung in the air, and Ōnoki's expression turned grave. He glanced at the destruction around him, at the unconscious forms of the Jinchuriki, and finally at Naruto, whose arm bore the charred evidence of a jutsu too powerful for a genin to handle.
"Stronger than Itachi Uchiha?" Ōnoki asked, his voice low and tense.
Kakashi's gaze dropped, his thoughts briefly drifting to his former ANBU subordinate. "I can't say," he admitted. "I haven't faced Itachi in combat since his defection. But this man… his power is overwhelming. He fights with precision and purpose, as though every move is part of a greater plan."
Ōnoki's sharp eyes lingered on Naruto's unconscious form. "What could be so important for someone like that to attack this team and leave everyone alive?" he wondered aloud.
Kakashi had no answer. His thoughts returned to the Blue Devil's parting words. "I am still waiting to see something amazing happen in Naruto and Sasuke both." What had he meant? Why leave them alive?
"I'll fetch a medical team," Ōnoki said abruptly, his gruff voice breaking through Kakashi's thoughts. "This level of destruction… we'll need to clean up quickly before word spreads."
Kakashi nodded weakly. "Thank you, Lord Tsuchikage."
As Ōnoki turned to leave, his gaze swept over the scene one last time. Kurotsuchi remained at Naruto's side, her hands trembling slightly as she adjusted his position to make him more comfortable. Sasuke stood nearby, silent and pensive, his fists clenched tightly at his sides.
Kakashi watched them all, his mind still racing with questions and doubts. The Blue Devil's final words echoed in his mind, a haunting reminder of their failure.
What did he mean? What is he waiting for? Then the realtiy hit Kakashi, The Blue Devil will meet them for Round 3.
Kakashi's body ached, but the pain in his chest was worse—the pain of knowing that this was only the beginning of something far greater.
The weight of their defeat hung heavy in the air, but beneath it all, there was a flicker of resolve. They would grow stronger. They had to. For now, though, the team was left to recover and regroup, their spirits battered but not broken.
Oh so I got a PM on X about the character arcs, which is cool. So i figured id explain them a little.
Sasuke's original character was that he was power hungry and focused on revenge. This version of Sasuke is focusing on restoring his clan's name and getting stronger, but not only to kill Itachi, but to help the village. This is why Keiko was inserted into the story. Added with Naruto's mother and Naruto, he is not too on edge. That was able to help him stay closer to the side of sanity and a familiar feel with family.
Naruto Uchiha is a character who despite not having a father, still has mostly everything at birth (friends, family, talent, and love). Slowly each thing is taken away from him and he begins to break. It doesn't help that he has malevolent blood in him. Naruto will have to navigate through his intense emotions to guide him forward his path. With his older self guiding him down a path that may lead to more power at the risk of everything.
Mito Uzumaki's character had been dependent on her best friend/crush Naruto. Her whole story will be getting strength from herself to defend her friends and her precious people. This will be shown over the coming arcs. She is slowly getting more powerful, something which Future Naruto notices in their most recent battle.
Sakura started out unserious in ninja work, however, after Team SevenPlus starts training more, Sakura eventually takes it more seriously. Realizing shes behind all her comrades, she wishes to surpass them so that she can protect them this time. Similar to canon.
Keiko Byoki no Te is on the road to revenge. Her hatred of Itachi Uchiha will push her far, however, the new person in life, Sasuke Uchiha, will be helping her further herself to go beyond just revenge, but to restructure everything in her life.
Blue Devil Shinobi appears to be shrouded in mysteries, but hints of his old life comes to light the longer he is around. He came back in time a failure to protect everyone he loved, now his main mission is to ensure that this timeline doesnt suffer the same fate, however, he is willing to go far and make greater sacrifices to achieve his goals. Most people wonder why he doesnt just kill Obito now, well, Obito is about equal to this future version of Naruto. Perhaps if future Naruto had an eternal mangekyo sharingan he would be stronger.
Kakashi Hatake in canon was very nonchalant and wasnt the best sensei to his team. This version of Kakashi will be guiding Team SevenPlus to get stronger and be smarter. However, some things get too complicated later on and he will be forced with a decision to make. He is close to deciphering The Blue Devil's identiy. Kakashi vaguely recalls a time during his time in Anbu Black Ops about an Uchiha who appeared out of nowhere. One matching a description eerily similar to Naruto Uchiha. He may have to dig through a few old files to find out.
