Kylo made it home and both his parents were waiting for him, the school called. The solemnity in their eyes told Kylo they already knew about his detention. He dropped his backpack by the door, its weight a physical reminder of the emotional burden he carried.
Kylo's father, Chase, stepped forward, concern etched across his face. "Kylo, are you okay?" he asked gently, his voice tinged with worry.
Kylo hesitated, his gaze dropping to the floor as he struggled to find the words. "I'm... I'm not sure," he finally admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "It's just been a rough day."
Kylo's mother, Skye, moved closer, her presence comforting yet pressing. She gently placed a hand on his shoulder and asked this time, "I'll say, what happened?"
Kylo looked up, meeting her eyes, feeling the warmth and concern radiating from her. He sighed deeply, knowing that it was time to share the burden he had been carrying all day.
"Silas was bullying me and Luna didn't like it. Things escalated and, well, she used her control on me and made me shift," Kylo confessed, his voice trembling slightly as he relived the day's events. He saw his parents exchange a worried glance, the gravity of the situation sinking in.
Skye's eyes flashed with a mix of anger and protectiveness. "I knew it! This whole guardian thing needs to be squashed. We can't let her control him like this," she said, her voice firm and resolute.
Chase stepped forward, placing a steady hand on Skye's arm, trying to calm her down. "Skye, calm down. There is nothing we can do. Kylo will always be bound to her; it's not something we can just stop," he said softly, his voice soothing yet firm.
Skye looked at him, her anger slowly melting into frustration. She knew he was right, but the thought of Luna having such control over Kylo was hard to accept. "But Chase, it's not fair," she murmured, her voice breaking.
Kylo looked at his parents, desperation in his eyes. "Please don't take Luna away from me. I get she messed up, but I can't lose her, please," he pleaded, his voice cracking under the weight of his emotions. Despite how upset he was with her, a part of him cared for her immensely.
Chase and Skye exchanged a glance, their hearts breaking for their son. They could see the genuine conflict within him, the struggle between his anger and his deep-seated affection for Luna.
"No one is going to take her from you, Kylo," Chase said, his voice gentle yet firm. "Her parents and your mother and I just think you need some time apart."
"No, please don't! I need her," Kylo implored, his voice rising in desperation. The room fell silent, the weight of his words hanging heavy in the air. Skye's heart ached at the sight of her son's anguish, while Chase's expression softened with understanding.
"Kylo," Skye began gently, her eyes locked onto his, "we're not saying this to hurt you. We just want to make sure you're safe and that you can manage this bond without it causing you harm."
"You don't need her, Kylo, you are your own person," Chase said, his voice steady and reassuring. "You have strength within you that you don't even realize yet. This bond doesn't define who you are; it's your choices and actions that do."
Kylo's eyes welled up with tears as he absorbed his father's words.
"Please, I need her. Please," Kylo begged desperately, his voice filled with a raw, aching need that tore at Skye's heart.
"It's just for a short while, okay? Just so we can understand this bond better," Chase said, his tone calm and reassuring.
"I will still see her in school though, right?" Kylo asked, a glimmer of hope in his tear-filled eyes.
Chase hesitated, his heart heavy with the weight of his next words. "Well, no. Your mom is going to homeschool you for a bit," he finally said, his voice gentle but resolute.
"You're pulling me from school?" Kylo said, his voice breaking with a mix of shock and disappointment.
"Yes, we discussed it with the principal. It is not forever, Kylo," Skye reassured him softly. "This is just so we can focus on you and help you understand this bond better."
"This is just going to make it worse! I hate you both!" Kylo exclaimed as he ran up to his room and slammed the door. The sound echoed through the house, leaving a heavy silence in its wake. Skye and Chase exchanged a sorrowful glance, knowing that their decision, although made with the best intentions, had caused their son pain. Skye took a deep breath, her heart aching for Kylo's distress, while Chase placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, offering his silent support.
Meanwhile, Luna sat on the edge of her bed, her heart pounding in her chest as she listened to her parents. Ryder and Katie were seated across from her, their expressions filled with a mix of concern and determination.
"Luna, sweetheart," Katie began gently, her voice calm and soothing, "we need to talk to you about Kylo. It's important for him to have some space right now so he can better understand this bond."
"What does that mean?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.
"It means you and Kylo are not going to see each other for a bit," Ryder replied gently. "His parents are pulling him from school and homeschooling him."
Luna's eyes filled with panic. "You're joking, right? Kylo needs me. He's going to lose control!" she pleaded, her voice rising with urgency. "He's so angry right now; I need to go see him."
"No, Luna," Katie said firmly but kindly, "the two of you need space. He needs to be able to control his own wolf. Chase and Skye want him to figure it out without you."
Luna's lower lip trembled as she fought back tears. "But our bond... it's so strong. How can you just break it like this?"
Ryder gently reached out, taking her hand in his. "Your bond with him just needs a break. It's temporary," he assured her. "This is not the end; it's just a pause. Trust us, and trust him. He needs this time to find his own strength. And you need to let him."
Luna's voice trembled as she pleaded, "I can feel him, Mom. He is so upset, I can feel him losing control. Please don't do this, he needs me."
Katie's expression became sterner as she looked directly into Luna's eyes. "He doesn't need you, Luna. You need to realize that what you did today at school has consequences, and the biggest one is the way it affects Kylo. You need to let him figure this out. Forcing him to shift was wrong."
Luna's eyes widened, her breath catching as the weight of Katie's words settled in. "I didn't mean for this to happen," she whispered, guilt washing over her.
"We understand that," Ryder said softly, squeezing her hand reassuringly. "But now you need to give him space. You will not reach out to him. This is for his own good, and for yours too."
Luna nodded slowly, tears slipping down her cheeks as she accepted the difficult truth. "Okay," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I'll give him space."
It took everything in Luna to not mind link him, she wanted to so badly but she was trying to do the right thing. The bond between them pulsed with his anger and frustration, and she could feel it gnawing at her soul. Each passing second felt like an eternity, and the urge to reach out to Kylo grew stronger, almost unbearable. But Luna took a deep breath, her resolve hardening as she reminded herself of the promise she had made to her parents – and to herself. This was necessary, no matter how much it hurt. She needed to give him the space to grow, to control his own wolf. She had to trust that their bond was strong enough to withstand this separation, and that one day, they would be reunited, stronger than ever.
Meanwhile, Kylo did not come out of his room that night, not even to eat dinner. He was so upset and afraid of what would happen. He was losing himself, and he didn't have Luna to talk him down. His wolf raged inside him, clawing for release, but he fought to keep control. He knew Luna was his anchor, the one who could calm his storm, but now he was alone in this battle.
Kylo paced the room, his mind a whirlwind of confusion and anger. His body trembled with the effort of holding back the transformation.
He heard a knock on his door but he never said anything. The door opened and in walked one of the triplets, Kato.
"Kato, get out!" Kylo yelled, not meaning to. He knew his brother meant well, but the turmoil inside him was too intense. Kato, unfazed by the outburst, took a tentative step forward, concern etched on his face.
"Kylo, I just want to help," Kato said softly, his eyes searching his brother's for a sign of acceptance. "I know you're going through a lot, but you don't have to do it alone."
Kylo's jaw clenched as he struggled to maintain control. "I don't need help," he growled, his voice strained. "Just leave me alone, Kato."
Kato let out a sigh, glancing back at the door where Skye stood, worry etched on their face. "Kato, let's just let him be," Skye said gently, trying to coax their brother out.
"No, Mom, he needs us. We are family!" Kato insisted, his voice firm with determination.
Selene and Taliyah, the youngest of the siblings, peeked from behind Skye, their tiny faces filled with concern. "We want to help too," Selene said, her voice small but resolute.
Taliyah nodded in agreement. "Kylo needs us," she whispered, clutching her sister's hand tightly.
Skye looked down at the twins, their innocence and earnestness tugging at her heart. They might only be four years old, but they understood more than anyone gave them credit for. They sensed Kylo's struggle and wanted to be there for him, just as much as Kato did.
With a deep breath, Skye stepped aside, allowing the triplets to enter Kylo's room. "Alright," she said softly. "But be gentle. He needs our strength and love now more than ever."
Kato led the way, followed closely by Selene and Taliyah. The room's tension was palpable, but together, they hoped to bring Kylo the comfort he so desperately needed.
"Please leave!" Kylo said again, but his siblings didn't back down. They were determined to help him see that he didn't need Luna; he had them too. Kato, Selene, and Taliyah surrounded Kylo, each offering their silent support and love. Kato placed a hand on Kylo's shoulder, grounding him as Selene and Taliyah climbed onto the bed, their small arms wrapping around their brother in a hug.
Kylo felt the anger leaving, as his brother and sisters hugged him tightly, he knew he would not hurt them. They were actually making him feel better. The warmth of their embrace, the innocence of their intentions, and the unconditional love that radiated from their small bodies began to thaw the ice that had encased his heart.
Kylo's shoulders relaxed, and for the first time in what felt like forever, he allowed himself to breathe deeply. The tension that had gripped him so tightly began to loosen, and tears welled up in his eyes. He looked down at Selene and Taliyah, their faces pressed against his chest, and then at Kato, whose hand remained a steady presence on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry," Kylo whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "I'm so sorry."
Kato gave a reassuring squeeze. "We're here for you, Kylo. We're not going anywhere."
Selene and Taliyah tightened their grip, their small hands clutching at him as if to anchor him in their love. Kylo closed his eyes, letting the tears fall freely, and for the first time in a long while, he allowed himself to feel the comfort and solace that only family could provide.
"We love you, Kylo," the twins said in unison. As Kylo let go of his emotions, he didn't realize he was holding back so much. The floodgates opened, and all the pain, hurt, and frustration he had bottled up began to pour out.
He had been trying to be strong for so long, to push through his struggles alone, but in this moment, he understood that true strength lay in vulnerability and in accepting the support of those who cared for him. His siblings' unwavering presence and their heartfelt declarations of love gave him a newfound sense of hope and courage.
"Thanks, you guys can let me go now," Kylo said with a soft chuckle, his voice still trembling with the aftermath of his emotions.
Kato, Selene, and Taliyah let go, their expressions filled with relief and understanding. "Just let us know when we need to do it again," Selene said, her voice gentle and reassuring.
"We need to do it again?" Taliyah said.
"Well, not now. He is better, right, Kylo?" Kato said.
Kylo nodded, wiping the last of his tears. "Yeah, I'm better now. Thanks to you guys."
"Good, well see ya," Taliyah said, as Selene and Kato rolled their eyes. She was the complicated triplet, always adding a touch of unpredictability to their dynamic. Despite her quirks, her siblings wouldn't trade her for the world. Kylo smiled, feeling the warmth of their bond envelop him like a cozy blanket. They had their differences, but in moments like these, their unity shone brightly, proving that family was their greatest strength.
