The doorbell rang and both Chase and Skye turned toward the sound, their hearts skipping a beat. Chase hurried to open the door, revealing Cameron standing there, a concerned look on his face.
"Hey Cam, Kylo is asleep," Chase said, stepping aside to let him in.
"Oh good, is he okay then?" Cameron asked, relief evident in his voice. "Luna said she couldn't feel him and she is freaking out."
"He is fine and you can tell Luna that," Chase said, trying to reassure Cameron as best he could. "We just need to make sure he stays that way. He's been trying to find ways out of the house, and we need to figure out how to prevent that."
"He is trying to get to her. I had to stop her several times today to go to him," Cameron said, his expression mirroring Luna's distress. "She could feel his sadness and it's killing her."
Chase hesitated for a moment, carefully choosing his words. "Well, he is fine," Chase said, not wanting to tell Cameron that they were trying to break this bond. He knew Cameron would tell Luna, and he already had Kylo fighting him on it. He didn't need Luna to as well. "We just need to keep a closer eye on him."
Cameron nodded slowly, sensing there was more to the story but choosing not to press further. "Alright, just let me know if there's anything I can do to help. Luna's been a mess all day."
"We will," Skye said, offering a small, reassuring smile. "For now, let's just make sure everyone stays calm and safe."
Cameron left and Skye sighed, this was all beginning to get way too complicated. She turned to Chase, her brow furrowed with worry. "Do you think we can keep this up? Keeping them apart like this?"
Chase ran a hand through his hair, his own frustration evident. "I don't know, Skye. But we don't have much of a choice. Kylo's safety is all that matters right now."
"But is what we are doing keeping him safe? I mean what if breaking the bond is wrong?" Skye's voice was filled with doubt and concern.
Chase sighed deeply. "I wish I knew the answer to that, Skye. It's possible that breaking the bond could have unintended consequences. But right now, it seems to be the only way to protect Kylo. If we don't do something, he might continue to put himself in danger trying to reach Luna."
Skye bit her lip, her mind racing with all the possible outcomes. "I just hope we're making the right decision. It feels like we're walking on a tightrope, trying to balance his safety with his emotions."
Chase nodded, the weight of their choices pressing heavily on his shoulders. "We'll just have to take it one step at a time and keep an eye on how he responds. If things start to go wrong, we'll need to reevaluate our approach."
Skye sighed again, her worry not alleviated but knowing Chase was right. "Alright, let's just keep doing our best for him. That's all we can do."
Chase reached out and squeezed her hand. "We're in this together, Skye. We'll figure it out, somehow."
"Where are the triplets?" Chase asked, his eyes scanning the room.
"Xayah took them to the park," Skye replied, a hint of relief in her voice. "She really is the best. They needed a break from all the tension here."
Chase managed a small smile. "I'm glad they're getting some fresh air. We need to make sure they stay as far away from this mess as possible."
"They just want to help their brother," Skye said softly, the affection for the triplets evident in her eyes. "They look up to him so much, and it breaks my heart to think of how this is affecting them too."
"I know," Chase agreed, his voice heavy with empathy. "We'll have to explain things to them in a way that they can understand, without scaring them."
"I know it's just hard. I wonder if we are harming him further. I just hope Wild gets here faster," Skye said, her voice trembling slightly.
Chase did too as he headed outside to figure out the window. He didn't want Kylo to escape again.
It was dark when Kylo woke up and he felt disoriented, not sure how he managed to get home. The room was unfamiliar, the shadows stretching across the walls like ominous figures. He rubbed his eyes, trying to piece together the fragmented memories of the day.
"Where am I?" he muttered to himself, sitting up and looking around. The faint light streaming through the window did little to illuminate the room, but it provided a sliver of comfort in the otherwise murky darkness.
As his eyes adjusted, Kylo realized he was in his own bed, but he couldn't remember how he got there. The last thing he remembered was being with his dad, talking to the vampires about his bond with Luna. The details of the conversation were hazy.
He knew his family was asleep, as he crept out of the bedroom. He was not expecting his dad to be sitting on the couch, the dim light of the living room revealing his stern yet worried expression. Startled, Kylo froze, unsure whether he should retreat back to his room or face the inevitable conversation.
"Kylo, come here," his dad's voice was a mixture of fatigue and relief.
Kylo hesitated but slowly made his way towards the living room, the weight of the day's events pressing down on him. His dad gestured for him to sit on the couch beside him.
"How are you feeling? Do you remember what happened?" he asked gently.
Kylo took a deep breath, his mind struggling to recall the events. "I... I remember bits and pieces," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "I was with you and the vampires, and then everything went blurry."
"Do you remember what we talked about?" Chase asked, his tone cautious but filled with concern.
Kylo shook his head slowly. "It's all a bit foggy. I remember something about Luna and the bond, but not much else."
Chase sighed, the worry etched on his face deepening. "Okay, get some food, and Kylo, please stay here. We know how badly you want to see her, but we just think you need some space, alright?"
Kylo's heart sank. He knew his dad was right, but the yearning to be with Luna was overwhelming. He nodded reluctantly, feeling the weight of disappointment settle in.
"I will stay," Kylo said, even though his instincts were telling him to go to Luna. He felt a profound conflict within himself, torn between the desire to obey his dad's wishes and the strong pull to be with Luna. As much as he wanted to resist, he understood the importance of taking his father's advice seriously.
Chase headed up to bed leaving Kylo alone in the living room, the quietness of the house amplifying his thoughts. He sank deeper into the couch, running his fingers through his hair, the soft hum of the fridge the only sound breaking the silence.
Kylo's mind wandered to Luna, the memories of their moments together flooding back. He couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that was gnawing at him. Despite his father's request to stay put, the urge to see her was almost unbearable. He glanced at the clock, the minutes ticking away slowly, each one dragging him further into a state of restlessness.
As the moments passed, Kylo's mind became a battleground of conflicting emotions. He knew he needed to heed his father's advice, yet the magnetic pull towards Luna was insistent. He fought the urge to leave, clenching his fists in an effort to anchor himself to the spot.
The silence of the room was punctuated by the ticking clock, its rhythm a steady reminder of time slipping by. Kylo stood up abruptly, feeling the need to clear his thoughts. He paced the room, each step echoing his turmoil.
He paused by the window, staring out into the night. The moon cast an ethereal glow on the garden, and the shadows seemed to dance, whispering his name. He felt a surge of longing, as if Luna's presence was calling him from across the distance.
Kylo closed his eyes, trying to focus on the sound of his breathing, the scent of the room, anything to ground himself. But the memories of Luna—her laughter, her touch, the bond they shared—were too powerful. They swirled around him, wrapping him in their embrace, making it impossible to think of anything else.
Finally, he couldn't stand it any longer. His resolve crumbled, and he found himself heading towards the door, his heart pounding in his chest. Despite the warnings, despite the understanding that he needed time, Kylo felt like a prisoner to his own emotions, desperate to break free and find solace with Luna.
Just before he could open the door, he heard footsteps behind him.
"Kylo, are you leaving?" Kato asked, his voice soft yet filled with concern.
Kylo froze, his hand still on the doorknob. He turned slowly to face his younger brother, who stood at the bottom of the stairs, rubbing sleep from his eyes. The look on Kato's face mirrored the worry that Kylo felt deep inside.
"I... I don't know, Kato," Kylo admitted, his voice barely a whisper. The internal struggle was evident in his eyes, a storm of emotions brewing.
Kato stepped closer, placing a hand on Kylo's shoulder. "I know you want to see her. But maybe Dad is right. Maybe you need to give it some time."
"I can't, Kato. It's too hard," Kylo admitted, his voice heavy with the weight of his emotions.
Kylo's gaze softened as he looked at Kato. The offer of support, of a comforting presence, was like a lifeline in the tumultuous sea of his emotions.
"I'm sorry, I am here though, and I think you should stay," Kato continued, his voice steady and reassuring. "If you want, I can wake Selene and Taliyah, and we can bear hug you again."
Kylo laughed softly, shaking his head. "No, don't wake them. I won't leave, Kato. Okay?" he said, his voice tinged with a mixture of relief and determination.
Kylo's smile faded as he saw the earnest expression on Kato's face. "Are you sure? Can I trust you?" Kato asked, his voice trembling slightly.
Kylo nodded, his heart aching at the vulnerability in his brother's eyes. "Yes, Kato. You can trust me. I'll stay. I promise."
Kato's face broke into a relieved smile, and he wrapped his arms around Kylo in a tight hug. "I'm glad," he whispered, holding his brother close.
As they stood there in the dimly lit hallway, the weight of the night's emotions seemed to lift slightly. The bond between them felt stronger than ever, forged through shared pain and mutual support.
"You should go back to bed," Kylo said softly, breaking the embrace. "I'll be okay here."
Kato hesitated for a moment, searching his brother's face for any signs of uncertainty. When he found none, he nodded and stepped back. "Alright. But if you need anything, just call me."
Kylo gave a small nod, appreciating the gesture.
Kato headed back upstairs and Kylo sighed, he was so close to leaving, but he always managed to get caught. The temptation to flee, to escape the suffocating weight of his responsibilities, tugged at him relentlessly. But the look in Kato's eyes, the unwavering trust and hope, anchored him here. It was a reminder that he wasn't just running from his problems; he was running from the people who believed in him.
He glanced around the hallway, its shadows now feeling less oppressive, more familiar. The house was silent, save for the soft creak of the old wooden floors and the gentle hum of the night outside. Kylo took a deep breath, grounding himself in the present moment, in the promise he had just made.
Walking slowly to the window, he stared out into the night. The stars seemed to twinkle with a quiet reassurance, encouraging him to stay, to fight.
He knew it would be a constant battle to fight his instinct to go see Luna. The pull toward her was powerful, almost magnetic, and it often clouded his judgment. Despite the promise he made to Kato, Kylo's heart still yearned for the solace and understanding that Luna provided. She had always been his refuge, the one person who could see through his exterior and understand the turmoil within.
Kylo headed up to bed, hoping he could sleep. The weight of the evening's events lingered, pressing down on his chest like a heavy shroud. Each step up the creaky staircase felt like a small victory, a testament to his resolve to stay and face another day.
Reaching his room, he closed the door softly behind him and leaned against it for a moment, letting the silence wash over him. The room was dimly lit by the soft glow of the moonlight filtering through the curtains. Kylo moved to the bed and sat on the edge, running a hand through his hair.
He knew sleep would not come easily tonight. His mind was a tangled web of thoughts and emotions, each thread pulling him in different directions. The promise he made to Kato was a beacon of light, guiding him through the darkness, but the pull toward Luna was like a siren's call, tempting him to abandon his post and seek solace in her embrace.
With a sigh, Kylo lay down, staring up at the ceiling. He could hear the faint rustle of leaves outside and the occasional chirp of a cricket, sounds that usually brought him comfort but now seemed distant and hollow. He closed his eyes, willing his mind to quiet and his heart to find peace.
As he drifted on the edge of sleep, a single thought anchored him: he had made a promise, and he would see it through. No matter the cost.
