Darker…darker…and darker still.

Satella found herself sinking into the abyss, she could feel nothing and yet everything all at once. A pain that weighed on her heart like a ball and chain that kept pulling her further and further beneath the waves of her mind. The half-elf's eyes blinked as she noticed a shadowy figure manifest before her. The twisted reflection of her innermost desires and the true ugliness that hid inside.

"Witch of Envy," Satella addressed. The Shadowy figure turned to her, two lights visible in the darkness that stared back at Satella.

"THIS GROWS TIRESOME!" The Witch speaks. Her voice is that of Satella's, but there is something off…. something not quite right. The tone, the inflection, the way she enunciates her words, it's all different. "HOW LONG MUST WE WAIT TO GET WHAT'S OURS!"

"However long we must." Satella answered as she wiggled her fingers. Numerous chains emerged from them, darting towards the Witch. The chains coiled around them both, bounding the two together as they forever became connected in the darkness.

Satella felt the shadows of the Witch begin to dissipate as their body's pressed against each other. The Witch's true form revealing itself to her as they were squeezed together. Satella's amethyst eyes met the Witch's own but where Satella's had a spark , the Witch's eyes felt hollow.

The Witch glared at Satella. "This is pointless." She scoffed. "You can't hold me forever."

"I don't need to." Satella retorted. "I just need to hold you till Subaru kills us."

"How naïve." The Witch mocked. "He will never do such a thing. He loves us, with his mind, body, and soul, and we love him, and nothing will stop us. Death's embrace, Time's passage, even the Beauty of Madness, will all succumb before our love."

"You are already mad." Satella spat. "We are already out of time, and Death is already waiting for us." She warned. "He's knocking at our doors, knocking at Subaru's door. We keep it close. We keep it shut. It won't be enough, though. It will never be enough. One way or the other, Death will come, if not for his body, then for his soul, and if not for his soul, then his mind. If Subaru reaches the point where his mind is shattered, then what? What will become of him then?"

"We treasure every piece of him then." The Witch whispered. "We love every broken shard…and then we carefully put him back together again. Piece by piece, memory by memory. No matter what happens, we'll always help him find his way back to us. It doesn't matter how many times he dies, nor does it matter how many versions of himself need to live… It's all going to be Subaru in the end. Whether he runs away with the maid, or he becomes Echidna's puppet. Even if he forgets himself entirely…he'll still be Subaru and he'll still be ours." The Witch told her.

"You're crazy."

"We're crazy...for him."

Alright, it's been a while, and a lot has happened. I finished university, got a job, got fired, and then got a new one. Now I'm looking back and wondering...well..I'm debating whether to continue this story after so long. I've had some ideas and plans, and I honestly want to revisit and revise it. I don't want to rewrite it from the ground up, but I'm considering editing and removing some parts of the original and reworking some stuff. I just confess I had ideas but no clue how to execute some and part of this ended up being padded out with pointless filler on the anime reaction and stuff. I'm hoping if I do return I can do it proper this time both for myself as a writer and for you my audience.

I honestly don't want to rewrite the story but there are parts I'm cringing at after so long. A lot can change in 4 nearly 5 years and my writing is one of them. So as a little bit of a way to figure out this return form, I wanted to ask...what are some things you all liked and dislike about the story. What are some things you all thought might have hindered it and what might elevate it.

For me I dislike all the pointless anime references I made. It honestly felt like padding and unrealistic but yeah. I'm hoping to develop the characters more and explore their dynamics more. I know my personal favourite was the MES trio, Minerva-Echidna-Satella, so hopefully the others can get time to shine, especially with Reinhard in the misc. So yeah...
