Demonic Crisis Ch 5: Quirk Purge
At I-Technical Academy, the police had stopped and questioned one of the students, Graham, outside on the streets. "Please tell me if you've seen any unusual incidents involving Melissa Shield," requested the detective.
He remembered the sinking city incident where a worm-like creature had hollowed out the ground beneath several buildings. "There was this one time she saved us from a giant worm," replied Graham.
The detective raised his eyebrows in surprise to hear that. "A giant worm?" the detective asked.
"Yeah. It sank our gym, then went after us. Melissa killed it by shooting it with her Quirk," replied Graham.
The detective paused momentarily and remembered some information he had learned of Melissa earlier. "I've been told Melissa never displayed any Quirks before. Why the change?" asked the detective.
"That was the first time I've ever seen her use a Quirk. I guess she's just a late bloomer," admitted Graham.
"What did her Quirk do?" asked the detective.
"She fired bullets at the worm," replied Graham.
The I-Island police had also investigated other sites that Melissa had frequented such as room 1080 of an apartment complex in the Northeast City. When they reached that room, the previous occupant had long vacated the apartment and it was completely empty. When pressed, the receptionist only gave a description of Tania Fey, a young blonde Caucasian woman with frizzy hair who had rented the place. She was the same woman who owned the Atma Foundation clinic and was the one paying for its reconstruction.
Unable to find out anything concrete about this woman or Melissa, the police's investigation had stalled. Later, Tsukauchi gave his friend All Might a call with the bad news. "Sorry Toshinori, we couldn't get in touch with any of owners of the Atma Foundation clinic. All we found were workers rebuilding the clinic," replied Tsukauchi.
"Thanks for trying," said All Might.
"Don't worry. We'll find her, wherever she's hiding. I'll talk to you later," said Tsukauchi.
After Tsukauchi hung up the phone, All Might sank into his seat in the UA teacher's office, lost in thought. "Dave doesn't know anything and all possible leads have vanished without a trace. What kind of mess have you gotten yourself into?" All Might asked of Melissa, even though she was not there to hear him.
All Might reviewed what Tsukauchi and the police at I-Island told him about Melissa. Among the places she had been frequenting were Mustafar Park and the Atma Foundation clinic. Nothing was suspicious about her being at the park, except for the fact that it was in Japan, all the way across the ocean from her home in I-Island. The clinic was the same, but also the most interesting location. It had been set up to help people who suffered a strange disease known as "Atma," which caused them to transform into a man-eating monster.
Judging from her strange form as the chicken-legged, biped robot and her frequenting the clinic, the police had reason to suspect she had been infected with Atma. She was now using this power for vigilante activities such as the killing of the Mustafar Lords. She had also been at the incident at I-Island with the Immortal Stranger himself, the man who had killed All For One. Based on this information, the Stranger appeared to be gathering those who had Atma under his banner.
Even now, All Might was still in disbelief at how things had turned out. The daughter of his best friend had become a vigilante, killing to further some warped ideal much like the Hero Killer Stain did. His thoughts wandered back to innocent days early on in his career, when Dave first introduced him to Melissa on the streets of Sacramento. As a young child, Melissa barely reached All Might's knee. She wore a red dress, far more feminine attire than the pants she wore as a teenager.
"This is my daughter, Melissa. She's already six years old, but endlessly curious about the world," said the young David Shield, presenting his daughter to his friend.
"Well now! Nice to you meet you, young Melissa!" said All Might, who lifted Melissa off the ground.
"I know you! You were on TV, when that chemical factory caught on fire!" said young Melissa. "You're All Might!"
"Oh, so my reputation precedes me! Looks like I have another fan!" remarked All Might with a appreciative smile.
"So you and papa know each other?" asked Melissa.
"Of course! Your papa helps me all the time. He is my sidekick," replied All Might.
A nearby television screen changed to a news report. "This just in. A tornado has formed 20 km to the north of Sacramento. Residents in the area are advised to avoid travel there and head underground for safety," said the female news anchor.
"A tornado? I have to get going. Got work to do!" said All Might, placing Melissa on the ground.
All Might raced to where the tornado had been sighted. With the power of One For All, he had reached the area in just seconds. Even this far away, the tornado made local winds start to gather up dust and debris. It whirled them together into a dark funnel that rampaged across the southwestern US. All Might gathered power into his right hand, then rushed forward to throw the mightiest punch he could muster. Its sheer force dispersed the tornado completely and had left clear sunny skies in the area.
With the threat resolved, he made his way back to Sacramento. "This just in. All Might was spotted at the site of the tornado. With a single punch, he dispersed it and cleared the weather. The people of the country give thanks to you, All Might!" said the news anchor.
"That was awesome, Uncle Might! Still, I wish I could do things like that. I don't have a Quirk," remarked young Melissa, pouting at the thought of her Quirklessness.
"Nonsense! See my costume? Not a single rip or tear in it. You know why? Your father made it for me. He made it so well, it could stand up to the winds of a tornado. Everyone sees me as their big hero, but your father is my hero. If he hadn't created this costume, I wouldn't be able to go around saving people," said All Might.
Some time later, after All Might's reminiscing, Izuku and Melissa took a break from a bout of training at the colosseum to quench their thirst with a drink of water. Throughout the break, Melissa kept her eyes down. Izuku could plainly see that Melissa was distracted, her thoughts were elsewhere and not focused on their training. As the two sparred in the boxing ring, Atsuro acted as referee while the Spade Mercs and Girimekhala watched.
A few seconds into the match, after a few exchanges of blows, Izuku landed a powerful right on her chin which knocked her down. Atsuro had called for the session to stop while he tended to her bruise. Sometime after the match, Izuku stopped Melissa in the hallway between the locker rooms. "Was there something on your mind? You seemed very distracted during our training," asked Izuku.
"It's Uncle Might. He knows. He knows I'm Metal Gear and that I've been doing vigilante stuff while here. I had to skip school to avoid the police and I'll probably be expelled!" replied Melissa. "There goes my chance at following in my dad's footsteps..."
"I know. I wanted to be a hero as much as you wanted to be a scientist, but things didn't turn out the way either of us planned. Even so, a part of you knew you had to do this. We're the only ones who could do this, the only ones who can stop the demons. Being a hero isn't all glamour and praise. I'm learning that and I don't even attend a hero course!" said Izuku.
"Still, I attacked Uncle Might, just to get him off of us! How could he ever forgive me for that?" asked Melissa, still wallowing in doubt.
"I'm sure he can. I don't think All Might hates you at all. He just doesn't like the way we do things. We've all seen what the demons are like. We do things this way because it is necessary," said Izuku. "I hope that one day, we won't need to hide and we can be accepted for who we are. Until then, I'm here. We're all here for you."
Melissa began to smile. "Thank you Izuku! I feel so much better!" Melissa suddenly hugged Izuku in gratitude.
"Whoa! Too close!" remarked Izuku, blushing from such an overt display of affection.
"Hug her you stupid!" cried Midori.
"Gah!" remarked Izuku as Midori had walked in on them with a grin like the Cheshire Cat.
"You two seem to be getting along!" she remarked impishly. "I've got things to do, so I'll leave you two love birds alone."

At the city of Hiroshima a massive force of angels had entered its city limits via the air. One squadron spotted a group of Python demons below. They were serpentine demons made of smoke with a dragon skull for the head. The Pythons spewed ice from their mouths, forcing the angel squadron to scatter to avoid harm. When they reunited, the angels hurled holy blasts back at the Pythons. The ground burst in explosions all around them with one Python being killed in the exchange.
Distracted with their attack on the Pythons, the angels did not see a Murmur locking his sights on a Power in their ranks. The Power got struck by ball lightning from behind, being destroyed instantly. The others turned around and noticed the Murmur, then scattered and retorted with a volley of holy blasts. Below were the Loa, demons who looked like floating skulls with a snake crawling through its eye sockets. The Loa hovered into range of the Pythons and spit blasts of darkness, successfully killing one of the Python.
Elsewhere, a stray shot from an angel struck a building and blew a massive hole into its side. The weakened support struts gave out with the twisting and creaking of metal, taking the top portion of the structure down to the ground with a loud boom. The people of Hiroshima fled in terror. Soon, several local pro heroes and those from out of town had been dispatched to the area to put down the violent confrontation between Law and Chaos. At various locations, the heroes attempted to attack the demons, but their attacks simply passed through futilely.
Quickly realizing they could not harm their foes, the pro heroes switched focus from combat to containment and evacuating civilians. Among the heroes dispatched to the area were students from Shiketsu High of Hiroshima, western Japan's counterpart to UA High of Mustafar in eastern Japan. One such hero was a student clad in a burgundy costume with tubes all over his body. He also wore the cap of a Shiketsu student. His name was Inasa Yoarashi, also known as "Gale Force" for his Quirk, "Whirlwind," which let him control air.
He saw some of Hiroshima's citizens running down the street, then an exchange of blows between a Virtue and a Murmur. The Murmur hurled ball lightning, which the Virtue evaded by ascending. The ball lightning continued on to hit an office building, taking out its support struts and causing it to topple. Yoarashi created a whirlwind to levitate the falling portion and keep it suspended. His friends immediately rushed to the civilians below and pulled them out of harm's way.
"Like, you have to go now! You're totally gonna get squashed if you stay here!" warned Camie Utsushimi, a honey blonde who wore a catsuit which was unzipped down her chest.
"Yes, hurry! It's not safe here!" warned Seiji Shishikura, a violet-haired boy wearing a red domino mask and a black long coat with red trimmings.
Both Camie and Shishikura got the remaining civilians out of the way, freeing Yoarashi to allow the rubble to fall to the ground. The students escorted the fleeing civilians away from the combat area. It was a monumental task since some angels and demons were aerial and all were causing random damage to Hiroshima with stray attacks. The group encountered a Flauros, a red, leopard-like demon with its head on the chest of his armoured torso.
It tried to hurl fireballs at the group, but Yoarashi blew them off course or back to Flauros, which passed through its body causing no harm. Camie employed her Quirk, "Glamour," to create illusory duplicates of herself. They ran at Flauros, baiting it into attacking them. While it was distracted with clawing the fakes, the Shiketsu students got the civilians out of the area. "Help!" cried a man, who they noticed had been trapped under some rubble nearby.
"I'm coming!" cried Yoarashi, who directed wind to levitate the rubble.
Although free, the man could not get up and could only crawl. "My leg is broken!" he cried as he kept crawling at a snail's pace to safety.
"I've got you," said Shishikura, who quickly ran over and used his Quirk to form a fleshy cast over the man's leg. He then propped the man and helped him escape.
The Flauros cut down the last of Camie's illusory clones, then noticed the wounded man. It hurled a fireball at him, which would also catch Shishikura in the explosion, him being so close to prop the wounded man up. Yoarashi produced wind to blow the fireball off course, saving the two from harm. Shishikura decided to use his Quirk, "Meatball," to remove some of his flesh and form a hand from it. It carried the wounded man out of the area as Shishikura followed behind as an escort. Camie produced more illusory clones to distract Flauros as everyone made their exit.
Back at Nagasaki, Ibara had just come out of church after attending a sermon given by a local priest. As the congregation split up, the Shiozaki family stopped at a burger restaurant to eat their lunch. They heard the sound of shouting from outside in the street and ran to check. "Please! I haven't done anything wrong!" said a terrified man with the features of a mantis.
"Quirks are not permitted in this city. You were told to have it removed at the hospital. You're in violation of the law and now, there will be consequences," replied a Dominion, an angel who carried a Bible and a set of scales. The Dominion conjured a pillar of holy power upon the man, disintegrating him in golden light. "Be on your way, citizens, and obey the rules," the Dominion said, before flying away.
With the Dominion gone, Ibara decided to tell her friends about the mantis-like man via smartphone texting. "Is that true?" asked Itsuka, shocked to hear about it.
"Yeah! I just saw it happen a few minutes ago. The angel just killed that man for not obeying an order to get his Quirk removed," replied Ibara.
"That's crazy! He killed the guy just because he still had his Quirk?" asked Tetsu in shock.
"Yep. The angels aren't playing around. They won't tolerate Quirks," replied Ibara.
"What about you? Are you okay?" asked Itsuka.
"Yeah. I'm fine. I don't have a Quirk anymore, so the angels won't bother me," replied Ibara.
"How are the angels getting rid of people's Quirks? They have to have some way of doing that," asked Tetsu.
"I heard they've created a special 'Quirk-Killer' drug which does that. I didn't need it since I train in the Luminance, but other people have to get injections to get their Quirks removed," said Ibara.
"That's kind of extreme. While I don't agree with stripping people of their Quirks, I don't see why they couldn't just capture the man and rush him to the hospital to get injected," said Itsuka.
"I know, but if God deems it necessary to ensure order and stop Quirks from getting out of control, we must have faith in his plan," said Ibara.
"It sounds like they're going overboard to me. Please be careful, Shiozaki," said Tetsu.
"I will. Don't worry about me. I'll be okay," said Ibara.
))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
A few days later, when late night fell on the city of Mustafar, a group of five humanoid demons in black garb, capes, fedoras, and gas masks sneaked through the darkness. On their backs were canisters connected to a spray gun via a rubber tube. These humanoid demons were Mad Gassers, demons who specialized in causing various afflictions by spraying their victims with gas. The Mad Gassers approached a fenced-off location whose sign labelled it as the Mustafar Waterworks.
The Mustafar Waterworks was a large site enclosed by a chain link fence with barbed wire running along the top. It had numerous vats and silos on its grounds which contained water in various states of treatment from the extremely putrid and dirty to clean and clear water fit for consumption by the city. Those silos with the cleanest water stood as a trio at the north end of the grounds and fed back into the city's water main.
A security guard manned a booth outside the western front gate of the Waterworks. One of the Mad Gassers sneaked his way there without the guard noticing. He got into the blind spot beside the booth and fed a nozzle into a crack in the wood. Slowly but surely, the clear gas seeped in. The guard felt a sudden drowsiness overtake him and he nodded off to sleep. With the guard unconscious, the Mad Gasser used his controls to open the gate.
The Mad Gasser group found the three silos of clean water and ascended stairs to the catwalks linking them at the top. One of the Mad Gassers used a blowtorch to melt open a hole, then put his nozzle inside to spray gas into the water. Bit by bit, the water became contaminated with the red, blood-like substance which hissed out of the nozzle. Two other Mad Gassers worked on the other two silos, contaminating them with the strange red poison. The rest stood on lookout for anyone who might interfere with their operation.
Their job proceeded uneventfully until a group of three Spade Merc Pixies came upon the Waterworks. When the trio noticed the Mad Gassers by the top of the silos, their eyes shot open. "Hey! What are you doing?" one of them called out to the Mad Gassers.
"Shit! Busted!" cried a Mad Gasser lookout.
"Stop!" cried the Pixie.
The Pixies flew closer to the Mad Gassers, who responded by spraying green poison clouds. The Pixies scattered, then arced bolts of lightning. One of the Mad Gassers got struck and convulsed in agony before tumbling off of the silo and crumbling into Magatsuhi motes. The other Mad Gassers continued retaliating by spraying poison. One of the Pixies got caught in the cloud and inhaled a part of it. She started to gag, then collapsed and broke apart into motes of Magatsuhi.
As the Pixies and Mad Gassers fought, their altercation got noticed by a trio of Lilim skulking in an alley a distance away. "Oh... My... God! There's like a fight going on at the Waterworks!" said one Lilim.
"Hey! Some of them are from the Foundation. They're such a buzzkill!" remarked the second.
"Oh, whatever! Let's go crash the party, girls! We'll totally call our friends over!" said the third.
The Lilim approached the altercation and hurled ball lightning at a Mad Gasser trying to descend from the silo. He ducked that attack, which went stray and hit a support strut which sustained the silos. As the metal creaked, the Mad Gassers jumped from the catwalk, fortunate to have landed safely below. Moments later, the silos toppled over and hit the ground with a loud clang and leaked their contents all over the ground.
More demons of Chaos came in response to the Lilims' call to join the altercation. An Ose materialized within the grounds of the Waterworks, behind a distracted Pixie. He cut down the Pixie, then did the same to the final one, removing the Foundation's presence in the area completely. A Gagyson approached one of the Mad Gassers and hurled ball lightning down at him. The Mad Gasser hopped away, then sprayed poison gas, only to have the Gagyson blow it back with a flap of its wings.
The Mad Gasser appeared unaffected by having his attacked returned to him. The Gagyson hurled another ball lightning. After the Mad Gasser dodged, the Gagyson called down a lightning bolt from the heavens, striking its foe and killing him. A squadron of angels flying by in the distance noticed the lightning bolt and went over to investigate. They found the demons fighting each other and moved to intervene.
One of the Powers spotted a Lilim hovering over the fallen silos, then hurled a violet sphere of almighty power. Caught by surprise, the Lilim got consumed in the ensuing explosion. The blast also disintegrated a portion of a silo's side, which allowed the rest of the silo's contents to leak out and cover the ground. An Ose on the ground spotted him and fired a beam of kinetic power from cupped hands. The Power sensed the beam and quickly leaned backwards to evade it.
A Flauros sent a stray fireball into the office of the Waterworks. An explosion ensued, setting what remained of the building on fire. A new group of demons approached the Waterworks, let by the Spade Mercs. Hector the Hecatonchires, a turquoise giant with numerous arms and faces, hurled dozens of punches at an Ose and a Power. "A-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA! A-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TA! OWATA!" he cried as he pummelled the Power and Ose demons into oblivion.
Orochi, a giant snake with eight heads, snapped at a Lilim. He caught the succubus-like demon in his jaws and chomped down hard. The Lilim got split into two before vanishing in motes of Magatsuhi. Midori cornered the last surviving Mad Gassers. They tried to spray poison at her, but she moved around the cloud with preternatural speed. A torrent of flame erupted from her fingertips and ignited the clothes of the demons. They flailed about in terror, futilely trying to extinguish the flames before being consumed by them.
An Ose caught sight of Yuzu and advanced to attack her. Scarlet suddenly appeared behind him and sprayed fire into his back. The Ose got incinerated, getting his attack ended abruptly. "Thank you Scarlet!" said Yuzu, upon turning around to see her foe.
Scarlet blew a kiss at her. "Any time, Yuzu darling!" replied Scarlet.
By now, Mustafar's pro heroes and authorities had arrived on the scene. The police came upon a Gagyson and began to shoot it with firearms. Their bullets connected and killed the demon. Tsukauchi was among their ranks and watched the Gagyson's demise with mouth agape. "Our weapons worked this time? How?" he asked.
"I don't know, but we're gonna take advantage of it!" said another officer.
The pro heroes, whose members included All Might, engaged the demons with All Might facing off with an Ose. The Ose charged in to attack him, but All Might sidestepped the chop, then popped the demon in the cheek with a right. The Ose got hurled to the ground, where he vanished in motes of Magatsuhi. Nearby, Mirko kicked a Decarabia to the ground. Before it could get up, she hopped on and stomped it into the ground fatally.
After the Spade Mercs and the pro heroes finished off the angels and demons, the two sides locked gazes and turned to each other. A stare down ensued between them. Abel stepped forward to address them. "Defenders of Hero Society, by working together, we've defeated the demons tonight. Consider the battle won and let us leave in peace. If you attempt to stop us, we will do battle immediately and you will be crushed," Abel warned them telepathically.
"Let you go? After seeing you involved here?" asked Mirko defiantly.
Abel glared at Mirko. "Any one of us could wipe out your forces many times over, and we are many. Don't be a reckless fool!" Abel continued to warn her telepathically.
"Where's Melissa? Tell me where she is now!" demanded All Might.
"She's unharmed and hidden away safely. That's all I will tell you," Abel assured the Symbol of Peace through telepathy.
A few more seconds passed, but neither side made a move. "They're not attacking. They're waiting to see what we do next," stated Ryukyu.
Another tense moment of silence passed, yet nobody made a move. During this stare down, Tsukauchi had gotten off of a call on the radio. "Stand down. Let 'em go," announced Tsukauchi through a microphone.
"Tsukauchi?" asked All Might.
"Orders from above," replied Tsukauchi. "The Waterworks have already suffered extensive damage. Another battle here will only make it worse and lead to worse disruptions to the city water supply."
Abel nodded. "A wise decision," remarked Abel through telepathy. "As you secure the area, do perform tests on the water in those tanks. You'll be surprised at what you find."
The Spade Mercs teleported into Yog, then recalled their other demons. Yog himself teleported away, leaving the heroes and police behind to secure the area. "Shit! He got away!" cursed All Might.
"It's better this way. The Waterworks had already taken too much damage. There will be other opportunities to capture them," said Tsukauchi.
))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
The Spade Mercs returned to their Domain in Mustafar Park, where Abel received reports from Rosa the Alraune outside the ziggurat. "Lord Abel, our forces report victory at the Waterworks in Tokyo, but were routed at Sapporo. The Sapporo Waterworks had been damaged extensively but fortunately, the Mad Gassers' poison wasn't able to reach the general public," reported Rosa.
Yuzu let out a bated breath. "That's some good news," remarked Yuzu.
"The only place we couldn't provide assistance was at Deika City due to the presence of Chaos there," reported Rosa.
"What were the Mad Gassers doing there anyway? What do they hope to gain by poisoning the water of all these cities?" asked Yuzu.
"This wasn't just random Mad Gassers trying to prank people. They were doing this in Mustafar, Tokyo, Deika, and Sapporo," replied Midori.
"It wasn't just any kind of poison. Those Mad Gassers were putting Quirk-Killer into the water. I detected it when I scanned the water at the site," replied Abel.
Yuzu's jaw dropped. "They were putting Quirk-Killer into the water?" asked Yuzu.
"Think about it. How will the Law faction get rid of everyone's Quirk quickly?" asked Atsuro.
"Most people aren't going to learn the Luminance or volunteer to get injected with Quirk-Killer. The only other way is to trick people into taking it," said Midori.
Abel turned to Rosa. "Rosa, continue monitoring the situation," said Abel.
"Yes milord," replied Rosa.
As the days passed, the police investigated the demon attack at the Waterworks. The Immortal Stranger and followers had intervened to stop it and left without any further incident once they were finished. The police's forensics experts had taken samples from the site, including of the drinking water, for investigation. After they conducted tests on it, they found unusually high amounts of human DNA and cells within what was supposedly clean water. Word of this strange and revolting discovery spread through the media and reached the ears of pro heroes.
Some of these heroes met with Sir Nighteye at the board room of his agency. He was a slender, bespectacled man of green hair with yellow highlights who wore a grey business suit, the look of a typical salary man. His agency was one of the principal foes of the Shie Hassaikai and its drug operations. The heroes involved included Ryukyu, the elderly Gran Torino, and Eraserhead, who was better known as Shota Aizawa of the UA faculty. Heroes from Nighteye's agency included the centipede-headed Centipeder and Bubble Girl, who had watery blue skin.
"Although the Shie Hassaikai matter has been settled for the most part, a startling new discovery has us worried at our agency. Please tell them, Centipeder," said Nighteye.
"Aye sir. The police had samples of the water from the Mustafar Waterworks tested. When the results came back, they indicated an unusually high amount of human DNA, blood, and cells within it," reported Centipeder.
Ryukyu let out a grimace of disgust. "Uggh! What were the demons doing there?" asked Ryukyu.
"The DNA and cells in the water matched that of the sample taken from the bullet which had struck Kirishima during his work study with Fat Gum. It's Quirk-Killer," replied Centipeder. He paused a moment to allow the magnitude of that revelation to sink into the assembled heroes.
The heroes broke out into gossip at that bombshell. "Quirk-Killer?" asked Ryukyu.
"Quiet please. Let Centipeder continue," stated Nighteye.
"As it appears, the demons intended to poison the water supply of various cities," continued Centipeder.
A brown-skinned man with locks for ear rings perked up in shock. "Are you trying to tell me the Immortal Stranger was trying to poison our water supply with that stuff?" asked the man, the pro hero Rock Lock.
"We don't believe it was him. More likely, it was the angels of Nagasaki. They openly call for the elimination of Quirks. Our sources indicate that they have their hospitals routinely inject Quirk-Killer into people to remove Quirks," replied Centipeder.
"What about Kai Chisaki, the head of the Shie Hassaikai? Where is he in all of this?" asked Eraserhead. "Last I heard, he had escaped police custody and went underground."
"He had been seen in Nagasaki according to police sources there. He and Hassaikai remnants are working under the angels to manufacture Quirk-Killer for their anti-Quirk crusade," replied Centipeder.
"What about Eri and her grandfather? They still haven't been accounted for," asked Eraserhead.
"We still have no clue about where she or her grandfather might be," replied Centipeder.
"I'll admit, this is growing beyond anything I've ever seen in my years. To have real angels and demons battling in Japan is something I've only read about in the Bible or a storybook," remarked Gran Torino.
))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
The members of the Atma Foundation gathered again to hear the latest development in the war between Law and Chaos. "Good news. We've found out where the Law faction made that Quirk-Killer. We've traced it to the nation of Otheon, which is on a small island in the southwestern portion of the Celtic Sea," announced Abel.
"Does that mean their Quirk-Killer factories are there?" asked Melissa, drawing the most obvious conclusion.
"Much of their production is there, yes, but not all of it. There's also a big problem there. The Law faction had made an alliance with Humarise, a cult-like group based there which firmly believes in the Quirk Singularity and the elimination of Quirks," replied Abel.
"They're just like the angels!" remarked Izuku.
"Yep! Birds of a feather flock together," remarked Midori.
"Not only that, Humarise had just carried out a coup in that country with Law faction assistance. The leader of Humarise, Flect Turn, is running the show now," said Abel. "Our demons have been in contact with the exiled government in the neighbouring country of Klayd. We've also arranged to meet a contact there who will help us get a view of the situation on the ground before we make our move. Our goal is to knock out that Quirk-Killer factory, bring down Humarise, and help restore the original government to power."
"Be careful while we're there. Since the angels took control, they've begun forcing the people to give up their Quirks," said Yuzu.
Meanwhile, a young, devil-may-care man combed a head full of spiky hair in front of a mirror. He wore a tattered blue dress shirt and dark grey pants, both of which were held together by numerous patches. He adjusted a red tie with blue stripes, then put on a red bandana, and a pair of sunglasses on top that. His siblings, a boy and a girl, brought him a khaki jacket with an orange flower in its breast pocket. He looked at his ensemble in the mirror and saw everything was in order.
"Roro, Lala, I'm heading out for a job. You know what to do while I'm gone, right?" asked the young man, who was named Rody Soul.
"We'll study bunches!" replied the two little kids with a smile.
"If it turns out I'll be home late?" asked Rody.
"We'll make dinner for ourselves," replied the siblings.
"Good! I'll catch you kiddos later," said Rody with a smile, before departing from his home.
"Bye big brother!" said Lala, the female sibling.
"You too Pino!" said Roro, the male sibling, to the small pink bird which accompanied Rody.
As the door to his trailer home closed, Rody ran through Shanty Town. This was where the poor of Otheon City lived, the slums filled with shabby, dilapidated homes. A few of the homes had graffiti sprayed onto them by local gangs. He soon came upon Stanleyk's Bar, so marked by the red letters on the brown brick building. Inside was a bartender in late middle age who was balding. He was cleaning glasses with a rag behind the bar.
"Hey old man, when do I do that job you mentioned a week ago?" asked Rody.
The bartender, Stanleyk, looked around to see if anyone was eavesdropping, then coughed to clear his throat. "Tomorrow, the Rising Sun Kids are coming here to put on a show. You'll show them around town. You'll meet them at the Otheon Side Hotel near the airport. They're going to ask if you've seen their roadie. Tell them that yes, you're their roadie," replied Stanleyk.
"Thanks old man. I'll make sure to meet them," said Rody. "We wouldn't want them to get lost, now would we?"
Rody returned home for the night, ate dinner with his siblings and went to bed. The next day, Rody set out to meet the Rising Sun Kids and give them a tour around town. In truth, that was simply a cover story to hide the fact that the band was actually a group of Atma Foundation agents coming to help the resistance overturn the coup by Humarise. As Rody biked through the city, his thoughts drifted to the past, shortly after his mother died giving birth to Lala.
A police officer met him and his siblings on that fateful warm summer day. "I'm sorry Rody. You father has gone missing," the officer reported to him.
"Missing? How?" asked Rody.
"We suspect Humarise might be responsible for his disappearance. Witnesses saw some of their agents in the area before he vanished," informed the officer.
Years had passed and Rody grew into the young man he was currently. With their father's support cut off, the Soul family could not afford their previous home, a veritable mansion. Seeing no other alternative, the three siblings packed their belongings and departed for the slums. They found an abandoned old trailer home there and promptly moved in, setting up their possessions and bed. They had lived here all the way to today, though the question of their father's fate had always haunted them.
Then one day, they received their answer. Some bodies had washed up on the banks of the Otheon River which divided the city in two. A girl who was playing in the area blundered into where the mangled bodies were and saw them. "AAAAAH!" she screamed in terror, before turning and fleeing the other way.
Soon, the authorities swarmed the river banks. They identified one of the bodies as missing scientist Eddie Soul. Humarise had indeed kidnapped him and when his usefulness ended, he shared the fate of those unneeded. He had been killed and unceremoniously dumped in the ocean. When Rody thought of Humarise, it made his blood boil. They not only took his father's life and consigned his family to this misery, they were hypocrites of the worst kind. They were an anti-Quirk group, yet actively used Quirks to achieve their agenda.
Rody ascended up the river side cliff from Shanty Town to the next tier, the lower middle class. This area consisted of the typical single-family homes that could be found in virtually every city across the world. Despite being small homes, they were actual brick and mortar buildings and not shacks or trailers like Rody's current home. Rody took his bike past the bridge into a shortcut between a pair of buildings.
Suddenly, Pino began squawking from his shoulder. "Huh?" asked Rody, just before an explosion burst from behind, hurling off of his bike. As he got up from the ground, Rody looked back and saw an Angel above. "An Angel?" he asked.
"All who refuse to surrender their Quirks must be punished. Prepare to face judgment!" announced the female Angel.
