A new girl in town Chapter 89

Taker/Sammy

Taker watched Kane walk out the door.

He doesn't look ring ready. Taker realized. He looks pissed but not ready to be in the ring.

Its actually a good thing he didn't get Hunter tonight by the time he gets Hunter he'll be ready to face him. Taker thought.

Sammy watched the big guy walk out and sighed. He's in for a rough time between J.J. not remembering him and getting back in the ring it's not going to be easy. Sammy thought.

Turning their attention to the monitor they watched first Bomb then Kane exit the curtain. Taker smiled when Kane set off the pyro causing Bomb to nearly wet himself.

Take him down but make it quick. Taker thought to Kane you don't have the wind to make it long.

Sammy just watched in silence rooting for the man in red.

That doesn't look good Taker thought as they traded blows. You don't have time for that Kane.

Then Taker smiled as he watched Kane assist Bomb through the ropes to the mats.

"What's he doing?" Sammy asked when Kane picked Bomb up.

"Finishing this." Taker said a moment before Bomb went through the table.

Taker smiled as Kane went back into the ring to break the count and take the win.

"Why did he do it that way?" Sammy asked.

"He's been by J.J.'s bedside for weeks Sammy." Taker said. "He's not really in fighting shape he had to finish it fast."

"Oh." Sammy said understanding.

Kane/Sammy/Taker

Kane walked back into the locker room.

"Not bad for someone who's out of shape." Taker said smiling.

"I'll give you out of shape, I can still kick your ass." Kane said laughing.

"Oh, right the only thing strong about you right now is your odor." Taker said.

Kane laughed and headed to the back to shower.

Sammy and Taker watched the even while Kane showered.

"Hunter won his match." Taker told Kane as he came out.

"Figures. How much did his crew help?" Kane asked.

"Chyna wasn't there. But the Outlaws were involved." Taker said.

They sat for just a bit longer then gathered their things and met Kayla an J.J. before heading back to the hotel.

Chyna

His password is still the same good. Chyna thought opening Hunter's phone.

She quickly read through his texts getting more and more angry as she did.

He's getting way to friendly with that bitch. She needs to be taken down and the sooner the better. Chyna thought.

Kayla/J.J.

As Al and the ref helped Cena to the back, Cena pushing Al away the whole time, Kayla turned to J.J.

"Jon's gonna kill him," she said, starting to laugh.

"Really?" J.J. said. "It looked like an accident."

"I think it was. But I guess I had a little something to do with Al being... all over him now," Kayla said looking amused.

Al/Cena

"Do you have a concussion?" Al asked as Cena exited the treatment room.

"No." Cena said. "No thanks to you."

"Head hit you not me." Al said.

"You are Head." Cena said. "Al Go away."

"It was an accident Head was trying to hit Tama. You moved." Al said.

"I don't care. That loss goes down on my record. I took the pin because of you." Cena said.

"Let us make it up to you." Al said. "We're really sorry."

"You want to make it up to me. Go away. Leave me alone." Cena said emphatically.

Al stopped walking and Cena walked away.

Cena/Kayla/J.J.

Cena stopped at Kayla's office.

"Kayla did you see that." Cena asked.

J.J. started laughing she couldn't help it.

"I'm sorry." J.J. sputtered out between giggles. "I shouldn't laugh."

"I'm sorry, dude," she managed between laughs. "I didn't mean for this to happen but it's funny."

"I thought I'd at least get some sympathy from you since you started this." Cena said.

"I'm sympathetic!" Kayla protested. "But I still think it's funny. Can't I be sympathetic and amused at the same time?" Kayla said putting her hands up.

"No." Cena said then he laughed. "I expect you to get me drunk tonight to get over this loss."

"Does it have to be tonight?" Kayla asked. "I... kinda maybe have plans," she said.

"You are the worst friend. If your kinda maybe falls through give me a call." Cena said stepping back out the door to go.

Kayla/X-Pac

Back at the hotel, Kayla showered and changed into something more comfortable, then sat watching TV while she waited.

Am I supposed to call or text or is Hunter? She wondered feeling unsure.

We didn't exactly make plans, but I don't want to head out somewhere in case he does want to meet up. That would be more awkward to explain than just hanging here by myself. She decided.

Kayla looked up from the TV when her phone started to ring. Looking down at the screen, she saw X-pac's number.

"Hey, stranger," she said, a smile in her voice.

X-Pac chucked.

"It's good to hear your voice," he said. "What have I missed?"

"All that can wait. Update me first," Kayla said.

Shit, I hope that sounded natural. She thought. There's way too much to tell him over the phone like this.

What isn't she telling me? x-Pac wondered, starting to worry.

"Uh, well, they let me start training a few weeks ago. I have an evaluation coming up, and that should be it. I can put this shit behind me and get back to business," he bed, sounding excited.

"That's the best news I've heard all week," Kayla bed, sounding just as excited.

"You're getting the biggest hug when I see you," she added.

X-Pac laughed quietly.

"You bet. I'll hold you to that," he said.

I didn't realize how much I missed her till I heard her voice. I can't wait to see her. I really want it to be a surprise though so I can't let on when I'll be getting back. X-Pac thought.

Just then, Kayla heard a knock on her door.

"Shit, Sean, I gotta go. Someone's at the door," Kayla said.

"No problem, hon. We can talk again soon," X-Pac said. They quickly exchanged goodbyes, then ended the call.

Hunter/Chyna

"Chyna where were you tonight." Hunter asked. "You should have been at ringside with the others."

"You haven't seemed interested, so I didn't think you needed me." Chyna said.

"Next time be there." Hunter said grabbing a jacket and heading out the door.

"Where the hell is he going we always go out together." Jessie asked.

"Who cares. Let's get out of here." Chyna said.

The Outlaws looked at her but made no move to get up.

"Fine I'll go out alone." Chyna said.

Hunter walked down the hall and knocked on Kayla's door.

A knock on her door made Kayla look away from the screen.

Is that him? She wondered as she went to answer.

"Hey, wasn't sure if you were still up for hanging out," she said smiling as she opened the door and saw Hunter standing there.

"Of course, I am." Hunter said glancing at her security. "Where shall the three of us go." He joked.

Kayla shrugged. "Any suggestions?" she asked looking at Hunter.

"If it's up to me, I'll just suggest somewhere with coffee," she added with a laugh.

"Sounds good we'll find a diner." Hunter said.

They walked out and to his Escalade and he helped her in Carl got into the back.

They drove around a bit looking for someplace.

"Oo! Here! This is perfect!" Kayla said excitedly as a waffle house came into sight.

"A waffle houses. Seriously?" Hunter said.

Damn I just know half the roster is going to be in there. Hunter thought.

"C'mon, please?" Kayla begged, widening her eyes pleadingly. "There'll be coffee, it's open and I haven't had waffles in ages. Please?" she said, resting her hand on Hunter's arm.

"Ok fine." Hunter sighed.

I just know I'm going to regret this. He thought pulling into the parking lot.

Carl went in first and looked around then waved them in.

The waitress approached them and asked if it was three. Carl spoke up and said two and the waitress looked at him strangely but led them to a booth.

As they crossed the restaurant Hunter stiffened as he saw Al Snow sitting at a table talking with animation to Head.

"What?" Kayla asked, seeing Hunter stiffen.

"Snow is here." Hunter said.

Following his line of sight, she spotted Al and Head.

"Really? It's just Al," she said. "He's strange but harmless."

"No one in this business is harmless." Hunter said.

Kayla nodded. "Fair enough," she said. "What makes you say that?" she asked curiously.

"Even a fool can change the outcome of a match or end someone's career." Hunter said. "He did it today. Cena has a mark on his record because of Al."

"This business still doesn't make sense to me; not really," she added. "You're all working together on the same show to deliver the best product you can, yet... What? What's driving this? Mutual success or personal rivalries?" she asked, trying to voice the struggle she still had in understanding the place she worked for.

"I have the Gold the highest Prize I am top man on the hill and there are a lot of people who would do ANYTHING to take me down and that includes Kane and Taker." Hunter said. "Being top dog means more money, prestige, and airtime. It means everything."

Kayla nodded, for the first time starting to realize the magnitude of what it must be like for him.

"Kinda like being captain in the USMC," she said.

"There were a lot of people who weren't happy when I got the promotion. It's not the same but yeah… I think I get it. I'm sorry for not taking all of this more seriously. I'm just used to other sports, you know. My brother plays basketball for a living. It's nothing like this and that's the only other comparison I have. I don't remember wrestling being like this when we watched it as kids," she said.

"Look at what happened with Cena tonight if he has a concussion, he'll be out for a couple of weeks and he'll drop a couple of places in the standings and have to work harder to get back where he was in line to the top." Hunter said.

"He's okay. I saw him after that match, and he doesn't have one, but I get what you're saying. I'm not in Kansas anymore, am I?" she said, trying to lighten the mood.

"Good. But no, you are not In Kansas anymore this is the Big Leagues." Hunter said, smiling.

Just then the waitress approached.

"I'll have a double stack and a pot of coffee," Kayla said.

"Same." Hunter said.

"Two pots of coffee?"

"Yeah." Hunter said. "She doesn't share."

"Ok." She said writing it down and walking away smiling.

Kayla laughed. "I'm never living that down, am I?" she asked.

"Nope." Hunter laughed.

Then she started examining the various flavors of syrup on the table.

"What's your favorite kind?" she asked, gesturing at the bottles.

"I don't eat syrup." Hunter said. "Is there no confectionary sugar?"

"Huh? What's that?" Kayla asked, looking confused. "And why don't you eat syrup? Syrup is scary." she said.

"Syrup is messy and it's sticky and it's gross." Hunter said. "I will apparently have to ask for Confectionary sugar."

"If you say so. Just keep it on your side of the table." Hunter said.

Just then, the waitress came back with their coffee.

"Before you go, he'd like some confectionary sugar, please," Kayla said, placing emphasis on 'confectionary'.

"OH, powdered sugar? No problem!" the waitress said brightly and disappeared again, coming back shortly with the afore mentioned sugar.

"Seriously? That's all it is. Powdered sugar?" she asked, trying not to tease him too much.

"Of course." He says.

Without thinking about it, Kayla poured a cup of coffee, made it the way Hunter preferred and passed it to him.

Hunter thanked her and took a sip, it was perfect.

"How is it you can make my coffee right and no one in DX can. I swear sometimes they are trying to poison me." Hunter said.

"Who's trying to poison you?" Al asks arriving at the table with Head.

"I pay attention. Hey Al," Kayla said.

"Kayla, you have to help me with Cena. He's really mad at me. Head didn't mean to hit him he moved. Now he told me to go away, and we want to make it up to him." Al said.

Kayla rubbed her forehead. "Al, I'm not sure what you want me to do. Jon kinda has the right to be mad. Maybe just leave him alone for a little while? Let him cool off," she said.

"How long we have another tag match next week?" Al asked.

Kayla looked over at Hunter as if for help.

Hunter just started laughing.

"I'll do what I can but not right now, alright? can we talk about this tomorrow?" Kayla said, trying to get Al to go.

"Ok… and Hunter you shouldn't let people poison you." Al said walking away.

Kayla just shook her head trying not to laugh.

"So that was different." Hunter said.

"Yeah. He's fun, though. Lightens the mood," Kayla said.

"So, you said your brother plays basketball it must have been fun growing up with a sibling." Hunter said.

Kayla got a faraway look on her face.

"Yeah, sort of. We were in foster care, so it wasn't all great but at least we had each other, and he's done well for himself," she said.

"Why foster care?" Hunter asked. "Were you together?"

"Our parents got killed in a drunk driving accident when I was twelve. And yeah, we were together which was lucky. Lots of people got split up," she said.

"Sounds rough." Hunter said. "But life is rarely as easy as people think it is."

"That's true. How about you?" Kayla asked curiously.

"Boarding school at the age of six." Hunter said.

"Ouch. Was it...? How was it there?" she asked carefully.

"Very academic. Sports were limited but exercise was encouraged." Hunter said.

"Sounds... competitive. I meant being away from home. You were so young," Kayla said sympathetically.

"They were strict a lot was expected of everyone. It was the same at home." Hunter said.

Should I even be telling her this stuff. Does it even matter. Hunter wondered. I've never told anyone about my past.

"Sounds hard. Like you were under a lot of pressure all the time," Kayla said, realizing that she was getting a glimpse at him that many people probably didn't.

I wonder how many people know about this. She thought. Does DX? but she didn't ask.

"Being the best is all about how well you handle pressure." Hunter said. "As our head master often said Pressure makes diamonds."

Before she could say anything, not that she had the first idea of what to say to that, her phone chimed with an incoming text.

Who would be texting me this late? She wondered.

"Hey, do you mind if I get this? I don't know who'd be texting me this late," Kayla said.

"No problem." Hunter replied.

She pulled out her phone and quickly opened the message. Her blood ran cold at what she saw.

"Holy fuck," she breathed, staring in disbelief for the second time that night.

"What is it?" Hunter asked.

"What?" Hunter said. "Carl… she got another video."

Carl immediately came over and put his hand out for the phone.

Wordlessly, Kayla handed it to him.

Then she looked at Hunter.

"I should really call them. Can I... Uh..." she asked, feeling her heart pounding and trying not to cry.

Hunter pulled out his phone and handed it to her.
