A new girl in town Chapter 91

Kane/J.J./Taker/Sammy

Kane waited until he was pretty sure J.J. would be up before he headed to her room.

Knocking on the door he waited nervously.

"Kane?" J.J. asked when she opened the door. Nervous when she saw what looked like an overnight bag in his hand.

"I wanted to bring you this." He spoke. "It's your camera gear."

"Oh." J.J. said reaching for it.

"On days off you would usually go out and find a nice place to shoot. I thought you might like to do that today… Um not with me I know you don't know me well enough to want to do that yet." Kane stammered. "But maybe you could get Sammy to go?"

"Get me to go where?" Sammy asked as she and Taker approached.

"Kane says I used to go out and take pictures on my day off." J.J. said.

"Yes, you did." Taker said. "You and Kane used to go all over."

"Maybe we could all go?" Taker said. "I could use some air."

"Me too." Sammy said.

"I would really like that." Kane said hopefully.

"Where would we go?" J.J. asked.

"I'm sure there are a few parks or something in the area." Taker said.

"That could work." J.J. said.

"We could do a picnic." Sammy said cheerfully.

"Works for me." Taker said.

They all headed down together and squeezed into Taker's SUV and headed out.

They found a park and wandered around taking pictures all morning. They found a food truck and got some food.

Sitting in the grass Kane looked at J.J.

"I remember our first picnic." Kane said. "Matter of fact it's the first picnic I ever remember. I wasn't talking yet, and you ate so much you said you were going to pop. I poked your belly and nodded that I thought you would. You ended up tickling me. It was one of the best days of my life."

"I don't understand some of the things you say Kane. First picnic you remember." J.J. said.

"You don't remember this J.J. but I spent all of my youth locked away. You are responsible for a lot of firsts in my life." Kane said. "It's one of the many many reasons I love you."

J.J.'s eyes filled with tears.

"I don't know what to say. I wish I remembered but I don't." J.J. said.

"I'll wait till you do. No matter how long it takes J.J." Kane said.

They spent the rest of the afternoon wandering with J.J. taking her shots and talking.

Kayla/Hunter

Kayla finally dropped Al back at his room in the afternoon. She'd spent all morning making sure he drank, kept plying him with snacks after their breakfast with Cena and got him stoned a couple more times for good measure.

Before leaving him to his own devices, she made him swear that under no circumstances would he even look at a cup of coffee and made him promise to call or text if he needed anything. With that done, she finally had the first free moments of the day to herself.

With a deep sigh, she returned to her room with her ever-present guard in toe.

She was just thinking about binge-watching something on Netflix when she remembered Hunter's texts from earlier.

I could really use time to decompress away from here. She thought reaching for her phone and dashing off a quick message.

Long story but I'm free now. Still want to hang out.

Kayla/Hunter

Yeah, I'm still up for hanging out. I'll meet you downstairs. Hunter texted back.

Kayla changed quickly into something a bit more flattering then headed out.

Hunter was waiting for her when she got there. She smiled when she saw him and before she could think twice about it, reached out for a hug.

Like the night before he hugged her back. Then he sniffed and looked at her.

"Why does your hair smell like weed?" he asked.

Kayla looked embarrassed.

"Uh. It's a long story but before you ask, I'm not stoned. Why don't we figure out what we're gonna do and I'll tell you about it in the car?" she said.

"Fine. You mentioned liking sushi last night. There's a good place not far from here," he said.

Kayla grinned excitedly. "I'm game."

Once in the car, he looked expectantly at her.

"Did you know that Al's allergic to coffee?" she asked?

"No. Why would I know that?" Hunter asked.

"Good point. Well anyway, he showed up at my room at 6 this morning pounding on the door and rambling about needing to fix Jon. I tried to get him to calm down or something but that worked about as well as you'd expect."

"So anyway, long story short, I ordered coffee and tried to get him to leave Jon alone for a few hours, but I've been so damn tired that I fell asleep. When I woke, all of the coffee was gone," she said pouting.

Hunter laughed.

"How much did he have?" he asked.

"Two pots of mine and one of his, I guess," Kayla said.

"He was vibrating, and I didn't know what else to do so I got him stoned. Pretended to smoke but didn't thinking it would at least make him normal."

"That guy will never be normal," Hunter said but he was laughing.

Kayla was surprised when they arrived at the sushi place.

This is really nice. She thought as they headed inside. Someone took their jackets, and another took Hunter's reservation information.

"This is really nice," Kayla said looking around at the decor.

"The food is even better," Hunter said as a hostess lead them to their table.

She was surprised to see pillows instead of chairs at the table when they got there. She hesitated, looking at Hunter for directions.

"Don't worry I got you." Hunter smiled.

He stepped up on her left and took her hand then placed his hand behind her back at her waist. Just bend your knees like you are going to kneel but go a bit offside." He said as she lowered herself down.

Then he took his own seat cross legged on the pillow.

"No fair you got it easier." Kayla said.

"If I have to sit like this for the entire meal, then so do you," she said.

"Or you could join me and sit in a man's position?" Hunter said.

Kayla thought about it for a moment then copied his cross-legged position, sighing in relief as her back stopped protesting.

"Screw it, that feels better," she said.

"Thank god there was no way I was getting into women's position without breaking something." Hunter laughed.

Kayla laughed along with him as she pictured it.

"Is there a menu or something?" Kayla asked, looking around curiously.

"They have set menus, and I picked the best one available. I know you don't appreciate me ordering for you but that's how it is here," he said.

Kayla just shrugged. "This is neat. I'm not gonna argue... this time," she said smiling.

"This menu comes with a great variety of Sushi including blowfish. The blowfish will be separated from the other Sushi, so you don't have to try it if you don't want to. "Hunter said.

"I'll try anything once," Kayla said.

"Ok if there is anything you don't recognize let me know." Hunter said as the first of the food came out.

"This looks amazing," Kayla said as they filled their plates. "How did you ever find this place?"

"Believe it or not I went for a walk." Hunter said. "It was a nice day, and I was tired of being inside."

"I do that a lot, too," Kayla said. "I should get back to doing it more. And running."

"Well miss lazy bones… first you were kidnapped and now you are under twenty-four-hour guard… guards who by the way I don't think want to chase your ass down the street. You'll have to confine your running to the gym." Hunter said trying to keep a straight face.

Kayla made a face. "Says the man who gets to do whatever he wants because he isn't being guarded 24/7,' she grumbled looking unhappy.

"Aww is Kayla gonna pout." Hunter said laughing. "Seriously this can't last forever you'll be back to bitching about your boring ass life in no time,"

"Hey, at least I have a life. You've admitted that besides going out to bars, going to the gym and spending endless hours in your room, you don't have much of one," she fired back.

"I'm probably the most interesting part of your life right now," she said before she could stop herself.

"I never said my life was a prize, Kayla. And your right you probably are." Hunter laughed again.

Kayla laughed in spite of herself. "You could use some excitement," she said. "What do you do when you aren't on the road?"

"That depends on whether I'm with DX or not." Hunter said.

"What do you mean?" she asked.

"It's complicated you wouldn't understand." Hunter said suddenly serious.

Kayla looked at him carefully. I think I've just made him uncomfortable. She realized. Not wanting to press the issue, she let it go.

Did I say too much? Hunter wondered.

Hunter picked up a bowl.

"This is the "I google-stalked you, you know. "A while ago," Kayla blurted, desperate to change the subject.

"You did?" Hunter asked bowl completely forgotten in his hand."Yeah. We like a lot of the same things: music, soccer... Um. Oh god, I've just made things really awkward, haven't I?" she said looking embarrassed.

"I also saw a picture of your house," she said.

"OH, really did you like the color." Hunter asked.

"Color it was all glass and steel." Kayla said.

"Oh yeah that's right." Hunter said.

"Uh... ooookay.," Does he have another house? Kayla wondered. That was weird.

"Oh, did you want some blowfish." Hunter said suddenly remembering the bowl in his hand.

"Sure. Thanks," Kayla said taking a piece with her chopsticks and popping it into her mouth. "Oh wow, that's amazing," she said.

"So, what music do you like." Hunter asked.

"Playing or listening?" Kayla asked.

"Both?" Hunter asked.

"Everything. Depends on my mood. I can go from hip-hop to country some days," she said laughing. "How about you?"

"Pretty much the same." Hunter said. "What do you play?"

"Drums, keyboard and guitar," she replied. "And I sing."

"Wow. You're your own band." Hunter said smiling.

"I'd need about six arms for that," Kayla said smiling back. "My parents were both musicians. My dad played guitar, and my mom was a classical pianist turned music teacher," she explained.

"So, music is in your blood. Wish it was in mine. Been trying to teach myself guitar for years and I am still not very good." Hunter said, shaking his head.

Shit why did I say that? Hunter thought.

"It's not my best instrument but I could help if you want," she said.

"No, that's ok I only do it when I'm at home." Hunter said.

"Well, the offer stands if you change your mind," Kayla said. "I've missed having someone to jam with."

"Have you been able to play since you've been here?" Hunter asked.

"Could I borrow your guitar sometime? In the rush of leaving, I packed everything else but didn't bring mine," she said not able to hide her yearning.

"I would if I could. But I don't have one on the road I don't want these plebes knowing I play." Hunter said.

"Oh? Why not? I think it's great," Kayla said.

"Doesn't fit the image, Kayla. The Game has a very specific image. A guitar doesn't fit." Hunter said.

"Oh, right. You've got a rep to maintain. Pardon me for forgetting," she said, trying to lighten the mood.

I wish you felt more okay just being you. She thought.

"That rep as you call it took years to build it's my job my lively hood. It's who I am." Hunter said.

"I get it. But as I'm learning, there's a lot more to you than that," she said smiling. "And I like that."

"Probably not as much as you think." Hunter said.

"I guess we're finished," Kayla said in surprise, looking at the empty dishes.

Better not push him too hard. She decided, relieved, that she could change the subject. I've made him uncomfortable more than once tonight. Better not try my luck.

Hunter took her hand and helped her up. On their way out, he stopped and left a tip, then they made their way back to the car. They talked about the food on the way back to the hotel, which took no time at all.

Instead of parting in the lobby like the previous night, Hunter accompanied her upstairs and all the way to her room.

"Thanks for dinner. I had a really nice time," Kayla said as they stood in front of the door to her room.

"Thank you. It was fun. Nice to have normal company for a change," he said.

"Oh... You mean DX?" she asked.

He just shook his head.

"Do I get a hug?" she asked hopefully.

"If you must." Hunter said, smiling.

"OH, I must." Kayla said hugging him.

Then Kayla turned and went into her room.

Hunter

Getting back to his room he was glad to see that there were no messages on his door.

For once they seem to have gotten through an evening without me. He thought. More and more lately they are getting on my nerves.

What about Kayla? She is definitely getting on my nerves but in a good way. I could definitely stand to spend more time around her. But I keep slipping with her. First about the house. I can't let anyone know about the second house. I'll lose my one place of sanity. Worse than that I told her I've been trying to learn guitar. That is something I didn't think I'd ever tell anyone I so suck at it.

What does she want from me? Everyone one wants something. I can't help her career she's not a wrestler. She's fiercely independent and doesn't want money. She doesn't want me, we're just friends. What does she want?

Chyna/Tori

The two women sat at the hotel bar.

"I'm telling you Chyna. My cousin Trevor is a computer wiz. He can get anything on anyone. I bet the can even find out who her stalker was if we wanted to. All we would need was one of those pictures she got on her phone back then." Tori said.

"Really?" Chyna said. "And why would he help you."

"Because I'm his favorite cousin. And he wants to get back at the person who beat me and got me thrown out of DX."

"I can get one of those pics." Chyna said. "Get him started."

Kayla

First thing the next morning, Kayla dragged herself out of bed, grabbed her shoes and jacket and headed out the door.

"I need a smoke," she said to the guard at her door then headed to the elevators and downstairs.

She'd just gotten to the smoking area and lit up when RVD showed up.

"Morning," she said around the cigarette in her mouth.

"Morning." RVD said. "I heard you gave Al coffee." He adds laughing.

Kayla groaned. "Does everybody know about that?"

"I didn't till I gave it to him when we were rooming. We had both just started." RVD said. "He was up for like two days."

"Fucking hell. I had to get him stoned to calm him down," she said. "By the way, do you know where he gets his weed from? He keeps saying that head gets it but that can't be true, right?"

RVD laughed. "Head does get it."

"I put it in there. Whenever he should be running low, I refill head." RVD said.

Kayla staired at him in astonishment? "What are you, the fucking weed fairy?" she asked. "Since when do you just hand out weed like candy?"

"Well, the whole Head thing is kinda my fault." RVD said looking to make sure the guard was far enough away not to hear.

"Your fault? How?" Kayla asked sounding intrigued.

"We were rooming together, and I was going to have some shrooms. He wanted some and I said no. He convinced me he could handle it and so I gave him a pinch. I went in the other room and when I came back more was missing. I asked and he said he wasn't feeling anything, so he took more. I yelled at him that they took time, but it was too late. He had a really weird trip. But by morning he seemed pretty ok. Still a little stoned. So, I got him out of his match. Then he saw this Mannequin head and picked it up and started talking to it. I figured he's still stoned, and he'd put it down when he came down. He never put it down." RVD said. "I've been watching out for him ever since best I can."

"Yikes. Sounds like you did your best to warn him. It wasn't your fault that he went and took more. I'm sure if you'd known that he'd lose it like that, things would have turned out differently," she said sympathetically. "I've always wondered what the deal was. Guess it makes sense now," she added.

"I mean he's still a really good wrestler and everyone even Vince thinks it's a gag. He still does everything else fine he just talks to Head." RVD said.

"Exactly. It could have turned out worse," she said.

They continued chatting as they head inside. Then they went their separate ways.
