CHAPTER 28: WHAT IF...

1900 HOURS...
KENSI AND MARTY'S HOUSE...

Kensi and Deeks had finished eating a little while ago and now sat watching an epidsode of America's Next Top Model.

Deeks was not paying attention to the show, because he was lost in his thoughts. He had been quiet since they found out they were having a baby boy.

"You okay..."

Kensi asked, noticing how quiet he was, but received no answer.

"...Deeks?" Kensi asked as she nudged him with her foot. "Huh, what?" Deeks asked.

"Are you okay?" Kensi repeated.

"Yeah, I was just thinking." He told her. "About what?" Kensi inquired. "My dad. Kens, what if something happens and I end up hurting Dominic the way my dad hurt me?" Deeks asked with fear in his eyes and doubt in his voice.

"That is not going to happen, Deeks. You are nothing like your father and you are great with kids. Plus, you are not doing this alone, we've made it through a lot together and together we can do this." Kensi reassured him.

"What if there comes a day that you or I go undercover and don't come back? I'm scared, Kens." Deeks told her.

"I cannot guarantee there won't be a chance one of us will not come home, but as long as we are together...we can protect Dom and I will always fight to get home if you will. Don't go down the 'what if' road, because all the questions you come up with will drive you crazy." Kensi advised him.

"I know, but it's hard not to." Deeks replied.

A little while later Deeks glanced over at Kensi and noticed that she had fallen asleep.

Kensi gave a snort snore and Deeks chuckled. He wondered why it took them so long to get where they were now.

Then he wondered how long the happiness would last before something happened to change that.

Because it seemed something was always happening in their lives.

Getting shot at, kidnapped and everything else that went with their jobs.
