A/N- Chapter 5 is now revised

Also, I would like to clarify some things here so I don't get some hate mail or questions that I won't answer later on:

1. Ron and Hermione would be friends with Harry but not the best friends of golden trio. Ron is supposed to be in shadow of his so many elder brothers, but he is too lazy to actually make any efforts to do anything about it. He chose stupid subjects (e.g. divination) so he can get easy grades rather than learning something useful (e.g. Ancient Runes, Arithmancy). Harry stuck with him probably because he was his first ever friend and that lead to nothing else than making him mere mediocre at best in JKR books. Hermione is a good person, but her bossy attitude mixed with know-it-all behaviour is not going to help Harry either. She is shown too good to be true in WB movies, but when Harry does better than her even by using some notes or a different book, she calls it cheating and cannot bear that he was doing better than her. She will be a good friend with Harry though and may be a help to Him in destroying Voldemort , but so will be couple of others (I intend to have Daphne Greengrass, Susan Bones and Luna Lovegood get to try to know him. Who knows even Fleur may be enamoured by his charms. "Laughing Evilly…well may be not").

2. Ginny in this fic is not as shy and doesn't look at him with embarrassed way as she does in Canon. She will become his friend that Ron cannot be. Ron may be jealous initially but will understand that he cannot be there for Harry as his sister (no, she is neither twin nor is same age as Ron) can be. No there will be no bond or mind talks here. Their relationship will grow gradually as it normally should.

Chapter 5 – While you were sleeping

It had been a week since Dumbledore has brought an unconscious Harry Potter to Hogwarts. Madam Pomfrey had done all that she could do to mend his past injuries and physical issues, but Harry had yet to be awaken.

Even Minerva had tried to cancel her trip to her sister to take care of the boy she should have taken in rather than allow Albus to let him live with those disgusting muggles. She had been inclined to go to No. 4 Private Drive to teach Petunia and Vernon a lesson they will not forget through their life. She had been furious when Poppy had listed his injuries, that she wanted to turn Dursleys into pesky rats and feed them to a dog, however Dumbledore had rightly pointed out that she will be of no help if she would also spend time in Azkaban. She had finally agreed to take a short trip to her sister's place and made Albus promise to her that he will let her know immediately when Harry had woken up. She had so much to atone to the boy and to James and Lily. She had wished that both her past students will find it in them to forgive her.

Poppy had been aware of an increased mental capacity and activity in still unconscious Harry, which Albus had attributed to the boy's mind trying to regain its full capacity and control as Lord Voldemort's soul was no longer leeching Harry's mental and magical force, it was not so unusual to have that growth. What he did not yet know was that it was Harry's mind trying to assimilate both the knowledge and sorting the memories that he had gained from the soul fragment.

Albus have had couple of specialized healers from St. Mungo's also to look at the unconscious child, but even they could not find any true reasons of his being in a magical coma as they had now started to call it. One thing that all healers including Poppy had concurred was that Harry will wake up by himself when his mind and magic was ready to face the world.

Bartholomew, who unknown to even minister was the current head of the Department of Mysteries. He had agreed with Albus to keep Harry's Quad score hidden. The score for the boy was edited to reflect a low 7.5 and corresponding matching colors leaving no trace of any intervention whatso ever. The magical register at ministry would record the data automatically as soon the charm was performed on the subject, however in this case the intervention by Bartholomew had assured that the score will only update when he was satisfied and concurred with Dumbledore. The said entry was also locked however to be private and classified access considering the status of its subject being one of the biggest celebrity in the magical world, which meant that access to the data will be available only to people in the list that have been authorized by him and Dumbledore. In this case he and Dumbledore were the only ones authorized to access it. Even if someone somehow gained access to the record later on (Voldemort had been assumed to have the followers in DOM as well in last war), they will only know that the boy was above average and that too barely.

While the magical Coma of Harry Potter continued beyond first week, Albus retreated to his office where he began to introspect onto the magnitude of his follies with respect to the boy, and how he had become the master manipulator with his 'For The Greater Good' philosophy. He vowed that he will mend his ways and do what he needed to pay for the debt now owed to the boy and his parents. That thought brought forward another of his folly to his mind i.e the illegal incarceration of Sirius Black, which he intended to take care of first.

Albus took the floo powder from the mantle of the fireplace in his office and threw into the fire. Then he gracefully stepped into the fire and shouted Ministry of Magic. He came out of the fireplace in Ministry and moved towards the lifts. He gave the receptionist wizard sitting at the atrium a curt and respectful nod and got into the lift. The lift sopped at Level Two of the Ministry of Magic, which housed the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

He stepped out of the lift and moved towards the corridor lined with doors on both sides, around the corner of which there were a set of heavy oak doors leading into the Auror Headquarters: a large open area divided into small cubicles, one for each Auror. He did stop to greet Kingsley Shacklebolt, an old order member and an ally, and Head Auror Alastor Moody who was his old friend, before moving towards the office of the Head of DMLE Amelia Bones.

A pretty brunette was sitting at the desk outside Amelia's office. She had graduated couple of years ago from Hogwarts and was a Hufflepuff named Serina Jones. He greeted her politely and asked if he could meet Amelia. She went inside the office and immediately returned and motioned for him to enter the office of the Head of DMLE.

As he entered the office of Amelia, he silently observed the room which was spacious but sparsely decorate, with a big Teakwood table and a comfortable chair and two chairs for the visitors which seemed to be similarly comfortable, unlike the lavish office of that fool Fudge. However, each corner of this office was filled with the meticulously arranged files and stacks of parchments.

He smiled as his eyes met Amelia's and greeted her, "Hello Amelia! It is nice to see you. Trust, I did not interrupt anything important."

Amelia responded with a smile, "Nothing as important as it might be that the great Albus Dumbledore has come to meet me without any previous intimation."

Albus' smile widened, "you always were intelligent and perceptive Amelia! But I am neither here as Headmaster of Hogwarts or in capacity of Chief Warlock. I am here merely to address a grave mistake of justice system which was recently brough to my notice on behalf of Harry Potter."

"Albus, if you are referring to the issue related to the unfortunate abuse of Harry Potter at hands of his muggle relatives, with whom he was placed the day he-who-must-not-be named disappeared, I can assure that the action has already been taken. Kingsley had brough it to my notice immediately after speaking to you last week. The muggles will be charged with physical and mental abuse of a minor in muggle courts, and I was assured that such crimes are punished severely in their world as well, so you can be assured of the justice there. However, I want to know one thing Dumbledore. Wasn't it you who placed the poor child with such heinous beasts."

Albus did not hide his shame when he told Amelia, "I am aware of my mistakes Amelia! and Merlin knows that I am trying to atone for them. However, I am not here to discuss the fate of those wretched people today." The last words he said were said as if they were laced in venom.

This to an extent assuaged the worries of Amelia towards the poor orphan. She had known Potters fairly well and could have easily taken the boy in when Potters have died, but she was then mourning the death of her own family at the hands of Dark Lord and she was to take care of Susan as the poor girl was not left with anyone else. She sighed as she realized it could have been a great idea as both kids could have had a sibling to grow up with, but alas the past could not be changed.

She had become lost in her thoughts that she missed the sadness in eyes of the old man who had come to her for help. She came out of her musing on clearing of throat by Albus.

"What can I do for you and Harry?" she asked.

Dumbledore explained, "In last week when the issue for Harry's guardianship arose as part of my conversation with Minerva on how to move forward as the child cannot go to Muggles anymore, I realized Sirius Black was listed by Potter's in their will as Harry's godfather and was supposed to take care of Harry in event of their demise. Also, in case Sirius for whatever reasons could not take care of Harry in event of their death, he shall be placed with Alice and Frank Longbottom, Alice being Harry's godmother. Now since both Alice and Frank have suffered a fate worse than death he doesn't have an immediate guardian, but Sirius however is still alive but is in Azkaban for betraying James and Lily Potter."

Amelia shouted, "Have you gone mad old man? Are you telling me that you would put Harry with the traitor to his family? This is nonsense. Get out of my office right away".

Albus raised his hand and Amelia stopped her rant as a power that Dumbledore was known for was now radiating from him. He said, "Sorry Amelia! You misunderstand me. I do not wish to give or would give Harry to Sirius in this state, at least not till he has been proven innocent and gains some mental and physical strength post his trial."

"But he was found guilty and there must have been a trial." Amelia said indignantly.

Albus said again with a weary voice, "I thought so too and had missed to see the signs of injustice. Sirius was arrested by Barty Crouch and together with an order from then Minister Bagnold, he was thrown into Azkaban without a trial."

"What do you want me to do Albus," she asked him as she found herself at denial again but could also not believe that the man she had once found herself in love with had been found a traitor and sent to Azkaban for a crime against no one else but the family of his own best friend.

She felt guilty that she believed others immediately and did not even try to find if he was given a proper trial. She had been shaken then; her broken heart was one reason she did not ask Albus where the boy was while she should have, as Lily had been a good friend of hers. She had owed Lily that much at least. Even if Sirius is truly found guilty of charges, at least he would have been given his due right to a fair trial. In her heart there was still a hope that Sirius was not guilty and she wanted to give him one chance so that she can get rid of the guilt that she felt and hope that she will be seeing Sirius again without shackles.

She immediately wrote a message to Wizongamot for a meeting in a week's time and asked one auror who she could fully trust to move Sirius Black from Azkaban to the holding cells with highest security, to be held there till the trial.

With hope to get Sirius a fair trial and his intuition that Harry will have his rightful guardian when he wakes up, Dumbledore left the office of Amelia Bones. He had initially thought of taking the boy under his own name or ask Minerva to adopt Harry, he had dismissed the idea due to their age and responsibilities towards school and wizarding world. He however had decided to step down from his position of Supreme Mugwump when Harry wakes up so that he could give more time to Britain and his beloved school as now he was almost sure that one day Voldemort will be back.

Sirius Black was lying on his cot in his cell at Azkaban. He had been dumped there immediately after he was arrested by the aurors without even a trial.

When Wormtail had fled the muggle street after blowing it up which had resulted in killing the muggles, he was in extreme rage and guilt for agreeing to change the secret keeper, that he maniacally started laughing that "I killed them. I killed James and Lily!".

His mind had told him that he did kill them when he had allowed Peter to betray them by becoming the secret keeper for James and Lily. His mind was so overwhelmed and filled with rage and his thirst for vengeance had fogged his mind that he had given young Harry to Hagrid to be sent to be taken on orders of Dumbledore, instead of making sure that Harry should have been his first priority.

This was another reason he was so angry with himself, as to why he had not thought of Harry and stopped to take care of him. Why had he rushed after Peter without a careful though and had allowed himself to be taken in like that. Later he had tried to tell both Crouch and Bagnold that he was innocent but then no one had listened to him as there were too many death eaters to be tried.

Even Remus who he had been friends since their first year, had believed that he had betrayed his friend who was more like a brother to Sirius. But he did not hate Remus for that. How could he, when he had thought that, the assumed spy in Order was Remus.

No, he had ruined his life himself and now he was paying for his mistakes. Harry was paying for his mistakes. He had hoped that Dumbledore had put Harry with someone like Weasleys and not with Lily's wretched sister who would only make Harry's life miserable.

It was his these thoughts that had kept him sane and alive so far. He had spent most part of his time in his Animagus form of Padfoot and hence dementors were not able to hurt him or yet destroy his mind.

He had heard the footsteps of someone coming and had changed back to his human form. The effect of dementors was instantaneous and he felt all his happy thoughts leave him.

The guards at Azkaban would periodically patrol the wretched halls of the hellhole he was in and at that time he would need to return to his human form. The footsteps were now even more louder and closer and they seem to approach his cell.

Suddenly the footsteps stopped outside his cell and he could see two aurors there. He recognized one as Kingsley Shacklebolt who had been couple of years ahead of him at Hogwarts. He wondered what he was doing here. Kingsley was giving some orders to his partner. The prison guards entered his cell and he found two wands aimed at him. He was roughly picked from his cot and found himself with the magical handcuffs which dampened magic and prevented animagus transformation.

The aurors escorted him to the entry of the prison and he was then taken onto a boat from the island and finally to a magically secured cell at the Ministry with anti-magic and anti-animagus transformation field in place.

He wondered why he had been moved to the holding cell from the prison. Had they found Pettigrew.

While he was lost in his thoughts, Amelia Bones with the head of aurors division, Alastor Moody entered his cell with two other aurors/hit wizards at the door with their wands pointed at his heart. Amelia addressed to him that they a reliable source which had pointed out that he had not been given the trial when he was arrested and that he had not joined he-who-must-not-be-named as had been thought by everyone.

Since this was a clearly a travesty of justice to a Head of an ancient and noble family, the Wizongamot had agreed to provide him a trial next day at 10:00 AM.

At 10:00 AM next day, the Wizongamot was in full session and most of those present were from old and noble families and they were enraged at Barty Crouch and previous minister Bagnold to have sent one of themselves to Azkaban for life without even a trial.

They had immediately agreed to provide a fair trial to Sirius when he could be presented before the Wizongamot. Fudge was not initially willing to go through with the trial, but when Dumbledore said that he could use it to his advantage that he was just trying to get an innocent a chance at justice which was denied by previous administration, he had immediately agreed as he could use that to his political advantage. Albus had been disgusted at the person who they now had as Minister of Magic.

Amelia immediately started the court's proceedings, and asked the aurors to bring Sirius Black to the courtroom, who had been allowed to bathe and had been provided a fresh set of clothes.

Sirius walked to the courtroom with his head held high, however the dark circles under his eyes were pretty much visible for all to see that his time at prison had not been pleasant for him. He was asked to move to sit into the chair at the middle of the courtroom which immediately chained him. Two aurors were standing by his sides with their wands out. Amelia then asked the Ministry Potion Master to administer 3 drops of Veritaserum to the prisoner. As the Veritaserum was administered Sirius' eyes glazed a bit. The court proceedings were on now.

Albus asked Amelia to proceed with the questions for the prisoner. Sirius had denied to have a legal representative as he was sure he will be found innocent under Veritaserum. This had unquestionably increased his chances with the Wizongamot for his acquittal. Amelia started with the basic questions.

Amelia: Please tell the court your full name

Sirius: Sirius Orion Black

When the court was satisfied that truth serum was working, Amelia proceeded with further questions:

Amelia: Are you a death eater?

Sirius: No

Amelia: Are you a supporter of he-who-must-not-be-named?

Sirius: I never was and never will be a supporter of Voldemort

At the name of Lord Voldemort, the entire court room shuddered except Dumbledore and Amelia

Amelia: Did you betray Potters?

Sirius: No

Fudge and others started to shout at this. Albus tried to bring the order in the court but failed. He then shot a loud bang like sound in the chamber, which seemed to do the trick.

Amelia: Were you not the secret keeper of the Potters?

Sirius: No

Amelia: Then who was the secret keeper?

Sirius: Peter Pettigrew

Amelia: Did you not kill poor Peter and 13 muggles?

Sirius: No, Peter is alive as he is an unregistered rat animagus who killed the muggles and then cut his finger and ran away in his animagus form.

That at least explained how only one finger of Pettigrew was found. Some members still created noise but were then silenced by Dumbledore. Sirius then was given the antidote to Veritaserum and was taken back to the holding cells.

Amelia then asked the members to vote on the innocence or guilt of Sirius Black.

After couple of hours the Wizongamot reconvened to provide the verdict. Sirius Black was exonerated by a majority vote and the court had proceeded with an apology from the Ministry for his illegal confinement and awarded him a compensation for his troubles which was to cover his pay as Lead Auror for years in confinement. He was also awarded a compensation of 100,000 galleons besides the stay at St. Mungo's for his treatment at Ministry's expense till he was found in sound physical and mental health.

Sirius could not believe that he was now a free man. He went to meet Dumbledore but he had already left for Hogwarts. Amelia came to see him. She was smiling at him now as he was now free and had not betrayed his friends, not that she believed he ever had.

She said, "welcome back, Lord Black".

He thanked her for the help and told that he will see her once he is back from St. Mungo's.

Sirius returned from St. Mungo's after 2 weeks to meet Dumbledore at Hogwarts. Albus welcomed him to his office. Albus called a house elf and asked her to bring some tea. When the tea arrived, they both sat in silence.

Sirius silently finished his tea and as he kept his cup at the table he asked Dumbledore, "Where is my godson Albus!?"
