Amanda Stetson woke up with a start. Something was wrong. One of her children was in trouble. She could feel the fear coursing through her. She didn't know which child or what was wrong, but her mother senses were on overdrive. There was also a pain in her right side. Something was definitely wrong. One of her children was terrified or hurt.
She got out of bed and put her bathrobe on. She went to her daughter's room first. Her four year old daughter Leann was fast asleep. She petted her four-year-old daughter's sandy brown hair. Her daughter seemed fine.
She heard the shower running in the kid's bathroom and listened at the door. Phillip was singing N'Sync's "Bye Bye Bye" off key in the shower. So that was two of them accounted for.
She went back to her bedroom and dialed her son Jamie's phone #. It was 6:30AM. She knew it was too early to call but she had to make sure he was alright. She heard a groggy "Hello?"
Amanda spoke, "Hi sweetheart, it's Mom. I'm sorry to wake you up. I just had a bad feeling. I needed to make sure you were alright. The paper isn't sending you anywhere dangerous again, are they?"
Jamie spoke, "That's ok, Mom. You know you can call me anytime. I needed to get up for work anyway. Are you ok, Mom? They are sending me on assignment but it's just the Cannes Film Festival next week. Not exactly dangerous unless I wear the wrong outfit. Actually, is Phillip up yet? I wanted to ask if he could get away from work for a few days. We had a really good time last time he went to a movie premiere with me. He loves hob knobbing with celebrities way more than I do. It will be more fun if he can get away and come with me."
"He's in the shower. I'll tell him to give you a call later. I'm not sure if he is going to be able to get away. They have him assigned to a different senior agent at work. People were complaining that Phillip was getting special treatment because he's my son."
Jamie scoffed, "That's crap. Phillip deserves the special treatment. He is the best agent the agency has had since Lee. Just don't tell him I said that. Did you already check on the munchkin and worm brain?"
Amanda smiled, "Yes they are both fine."
Jamie sighed, "Well keep me updated. Your instincts are usually spot on. Tell worm brain not to do anything dangerous today and to call me about Cannes."
"I will, sweetheart I love you and I miss you. Come visit very soon."
Jamie smiled, "I will. I miss you too, Mom."
All three of her children were accounted for. That just left her youngest son that had been missing for almost five years now. It couldn't be him. Amanda had never said this outloud to anyone but she was pretty sure her youngest son was gone. She had dreams that he was happy and he was with Lee.
She heard her oldest son get out of the shower and go into his room to get dressed. She figured she better get the coffee going. Amanda walked downstairs to the kitchen.
Phillip was smiling as walked into the kitchen, "Morning, Mom. Got to go in the office right away so you don't have to make me breakfast. I'll just grab a muffin and a coffee on my way in. I'm already late."
She was worried about him. "Be careful today, sweetheart. I have a bad feeling something is going to happen today."
Phillip looked at her, "i'll probably be in the office all day. They brought in a new Karbala kid in last night. They are questioning the boy now. They want me to relieve Jenkins. It's not Alex. I already asked how old the boy was. They are estimating this one to be around seven or eight years old. They think maybe Karbala is starting up again. He is too young to be from the warehouse. But he has the mark on his wrist and he took down three grown agents. Francine said the footage is incredible. I'm sure Francine or Billy are going to call you in today to talk to the boy too."
His mom nodded, "I called Jamie this morning. He is going to Cannes film festival next week. Wants to know if you want to go. Says for you to call him later."
Phillip made a face, "Oh man, I would love to go to another film festival with the doofus. There's no way they are going to let me off work though. Henderson is up my ass for every little thing."
Amanda rolled her eyes at him, "Language, sweetheart. And I'm sorry that they are treating you like this. Francine is trying to get you assigned back with her. She liked that you did all her paperwork for her."
Phillip laughed, "I don't get why all of them have such a hard time doing their own paperwork. It's not that hard."
Amanda smiled, "Well at least Francine has nice handwriting and organizes it a little bit before she gives it to you."
Phillip grinned, "Well I have to get going. I'm so late. Love you, Mom. You want to do lunch if they call you in?"
Amanda hugged her oldest son, "I would love to do lunch with you, sweetheart. My treat."
Notes:
I have a feeling that they aren't going to make that lunch.;)
Next Chapter: The Agency from Phillip's perspective. Phillip helps the Karbala kid that was brought in.
