The hum of sleek engines broke the quiet calm of the Black Mansion. The Cullens arrived in their usual style, their convoy of luxury cars gliding to a stop in the circular driveway. Teddy rushed out the front door, his face lighting up with joy at the sight of his vampire friends.
"Uncle Emmett! Aunt Alice!" Teddy squealed as he ran toward them.
Emmett stepped out of his car and scooped Teddy up with ease. "Hey, little man! Missed us already?"
Alice laughed softly, brushing her sleek hair behind her ear. "I think he likes us more than you think, Emmett."
Teddy grinned and whispered, "Maybe."
As the family gathered on the steps, their expressions changed from amusement to shock. Laurent, dressed casually but sitting comfortably on the Black Mansion's patio, rose to his feet. His crimson eyes betrayed his identity to anyone familiar with his kind.
"Laurent," Carlisle said evenly, his voice laced with controlled surprise. "I didn't expect to see you here."
"Neither did I," Edward added, his jaw tightening as his gaze flicked between Laurent and Harry.
Laurent offered a polite nod. "Doctor Cullen, Mr. Cullen. I assure you, I'm not here to cause trouble. I'm... a guest."
The tension in the air was palpable as the Cullens turned to Harry, who stood at the doorway, arms crossed but relaxed. His emerald gaze swept over the group before he gestured for them to enter.
"Come in. There's much to discuss," Harry said, his voice steady.
Once inside, the Cullens found themselves seated in the grand living room. Laurent, now a focal point of curiosity and suspicion, remained calm under their scrutinizing stares. Teddy perched beside him on the couch, babbling about his recent adventures, oblivious to the tension.
"I know what you're all thinking," Harry began, standing at the center of the room. "Yes, Laurent was an associate of James and Victoria. Yes, he's a vampire. And no, he's not a threat."
Jasper's brow furrowed. "How can you be so sure?"
Hermione stepped forward, holding a vial filled with a shimmering blue liquid. "Because of this."
Alice tilted her head, intrigued. "What is it?"
"A serum," Hermione explained, her tone clinical. "I've been working on it for months. It temporarily turns a vampire human."
The Cullens exchanged stunned glances as Hermione continued. "Laurent has been volunteering for my experiments. When he takes the serum, he experiences human life for six hours. No thirst, no enhanced senses—just humanity."
Carlisle leaned forward, his interest piqued. "You mean to say he's fully human during that time?"
Hermione nodded. "Completely. He eats, sleeps, even gets tired like a regular human. It's temporary, but the effects are undeniable."
Laurent spoke up, his voice calm but firm. "I agreed to this because Hermione gave me her word she wouldn't force a permanent transformation. I have no desire to stay human, but... it's fascinating to revisit what I once was."
Rosalie, who had been silent until now, asked softly, "And why would you want to do that?"
Laurent's gaze met hers. "Curiosity. And perhaps... to remember the fragility of life."
To dispel any doubts, Hermione handed Laurent a fresh vial of the serum. He uncorked it, the liquid glowing faintly in the dim light. With a steady hand, he drank it in one swift motion.
The transformation was gradual but undeniable. His once marble-like skin softened, the red in his eyes fading to a deep brown. The Cullens watched in stunned silence as Laurent flexed his fingers, marveling at the sensation of warmth coursing through his veins.
"It's... remarkable," Carlisle murmured, his medical mind racing to comprehend the implications.
The room fell silent as Emmett approached Hermione with a determined look on his face. The normally boisterous vampire now seemed unusually serious.
"Do you have more of that potion?" he asked, his voice firm but calm.
Hermione tilted her head, studying him. "I do. Why?"
Emmett glanced at Rosalie before turning back to Hermione. "I want to try it. I'll pay whatever you want, but I need two vials."
Hermione, ever generous, shook her head. "You don't need to pay. If you're serious, here." She reached into her satchel, retrieving two vials of the shimmering blue serum. She placed them in Emmett's large hands.
Without hesitation, Emmett uncorked one vial and drank it in one gulp. Everyone watched, wide-eyed, as the transformation began. His rock-hard, pale skin softened, losing its marble-like sheen. The crimson in his eyes vanished, replaced by a deep hazel. His towering presence remained, but he now exuded a warmth that vampires lacked.
Rosalie gasped softly, her hand covering her mouth. "Emmett…"
Emmett turned to her, his expression soft yet firm. "Rosie, you have to try this. Just once."
He handed her the second vial. She hesitated, looking at the glowing liquid as if it held the key to a long-lost memory. Slowly, she took the vial and drank it. The change was just as striking. Her golden beauty softened, her sharp features now radiating human warmth. Tears welled in her hazel eyes as she touched her face.
"I feel... so different," Rosalie whispered, her voice trembling. "It's like I'm... alive."
Teddy, who had been observing quietly, tugged at Harry's sleeve. "What just happened?"
Harry crouched beside him, his tone gentle. "It's a potion your mom made. It lets vampires feel what it's like to be human for a little while."
Teddy's eyes widened. "That's so cool! Are they going to play with me now?"
Harry chuckled, ruffling Teddy's hair. "Maybe later, buddy. I think they have something else in mind."
Emmett, still marveling at his new human form, turned to Harry. "Do you have a spare bedroom we could use for a bit?"
Harry exchanged a glance with Hermione, who smiled knowingly. "Of course. First door on the left upstairs."
"Thanks," Emmett said, taking Rosalie's hand. Together, they ascended the staircase, leaving the room in stunned silence.
Teddy frowned, his young mind racing to piece things together. "Why do they need a bedroom? Are they tired?"
Hermione bit her lip to stifle a laugh, while Harry shook his head, amused. "They just want some privacy, Teddy."
"Oh," Teddy replied, still confused but satisfied enough to let it go.
As the door upstairs clicked shut, Laurent, who had been watching the entire scene with a mix of curiosity and skepticism, finally spoke. "Your potion is extraordinary. But not all of us would handle being human so... enthusiastically."
Hermione nodded thoughtfully. "It's not for everyone. But for those who wish to reconnect with their humanity, even temporarily, it's an option."
Edward, who had been unusually quiet, broke his silence. "And what happens when it's gone? When they return to being vampires?"
Hermione's smile faded slightly. "That's the challenge. It's not a cure, Edward. It's a glimpse."
Meanwhile, in the borrowed bedroom, Emmett and Rosalie marveled at their reflection in the mirror. Their hands intertwined, their skin warm to the touch.
Rosalie turned to Emmett, tears streaming down her cheeks. "It's everything I dreamed of. I never thought I'd feel this way again."
Emmett, ever the optimist, pulled her into a tight embrace. "Even if it's just for a few hours, it's worth it. You deserve this."
They spent the next few hours savoring every moment of their fleeting humanity, treasuring a feeling they had long forgotten.
As the minutes ticked by, Teddy grew restless. "Do you think they'll play with me after?"
Hermione laughed, scooping Teddy up. "Maybe, but right now, let's let them enjoy this. It's special for them."
Laurent, sitting with a cup of coffee—something he had recently come to enjoy during his human transformations—murmured, "I wonder how many others would trade their eternity for a few moments like this."
Harry, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, replied, "More than you think, but not everyone. Immortality isn't just about living forever. It's about how you choose to live."
Emmett and Rosalie emerged from the bedroom six hours later, their vampire forms fully restored. Their skin sparkled faintly in the moonlight streaming through the windows, and their golden eyes now carried a mix of satisfaction and longing. Emmett grinned broadly, his usual boisterous energy renewed.
"That," Emmett said, running a hand through his hair, "was the most amazing experience I've had in centuries."
Rosalie, looking more content than ever, nodded in agreement. "It was incredible. We felt… alive."
The room, filled with the Cullens, Laurent, Hermione, Harry, and Teddy, turned their attention to the couple. Edward raised an eyebrow, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. "So, it's that good?"
Emmett clapped a hand on Edward's shoulder. "You have no idea, bro. You should definitely try it. Trust me, it's worth every second."
Rosalie added, "It's not just the physical part—though that's… something. It's the emotions, the sensations, the connection. It's unlike anything we've felt since we were human."
Teddy, sitting on Hermione's lap, tilted his head, clearly confused but curious. "Did you have fun playing, Uncle Emmett?"
The room erupted in laughter, and Rosalie quickly covered her mouth to stifle a giggle. Emmett, ever the big brother figure, crouched in front of Teddy. "Yeah, buddy. It was like playing the best game ever."
Teddy beamed. "Can I play next time?"
Harry gently placed a hand on Teddy's shoulder, trying not to laugh. "Not quite the same game, Teddy. But don't worry, you'll have your own adventures someday."
As the laughter subsided, Emmett turned back to Harry. "Look, Harry, we've got to get more of those vials. I'll pay whatever it takes. This is something that changes everything for us."
Rosalie chimed in. "We've been living without food, without touch, without warmth for so long. Even if it's temporary, it's something I want to experience again."
Harry glanced at Hermione, who seemed pleased yet slightly overwhelmed by the growing demand for her potion. "I'm not sure we can mass-produce these, Emmett. They're tricky to make, and Hermione needs time to prepare them."
Edward, sensing the excitement in the room, stepped forward. "You're saying we all could try this?"
Emmett nodded vigorously. "Yes! Trust me, it's not just about food or warmth. It's about feeling human again. Even for a few hours, it's priceless."
Carlisle, ever the calm voice of reason, added, "It could also give us a new perspective on humanity, something we've long forgotten. I think it's worth exploring."
With Harry and Hermione's encouragement, each Cullen took a vial. One by one, they drank the potion, transforming into their human forms. The change was met with awe and excitement. Jasper marveled at the steady, unfamiliar rhythm of his heartbeat. Alice twirled around, delighted by the warmth in her cheeks and the softness of her skin. Carlisle and Esme held hands, savoring the feeling of touch without the icy chill.
For the first time in decades, the Cullens indulged in human pleasures. They devoured the food Laurent had come to love—burgers, fries, ice cream, and cakes. Alice couldn't get enough of the chocolate truffles, while Jasper discovered a love for spicy foods. Even Edward, usually the most reserved, tried pizza and admitted it wasn't half bad.
As the hours passed, the Cullens paired off, seeking private moments to explore their humanity. Carlisle and Esme retreated to the library, reliving their early days together. Alice dragged Jasper to the garden, eager to feel the grass beneath their bare feet.
Teddy, however, was puzzled. "Why does everyone keep going away? Don't they want to play?"
Harry chuckled, lifting Teddy onto his shoulders. "They're just enjoying some time to themselves. How about we play a game while they're busy?"
Teddy grinned. "Okay, but only if we can play hide-and-seek!"
By the time the six hours ended, every vial Hermione had prepared was gone. The Cullens returned to the living room, their vampire forms restored, but their hearts full of new memories.
"That," Alice declared, "was the best thing I've ever done."
Jasper nodded. "I never thought I'd miss food, but... I might start craving it again."
Esme looked at Hermione, gratitude shining in her eyes. "You've given us a gift we didn't even know we needed. Thank you."
Rosalie leaned against Emmett, a rare smile on her lips. "It's not enough, though. We'll need more."
Hermione sighed, though her smile remained. "I'll do my best, but it will take time. These potions aren't easy to make and the ingredients are very rare."
Emmett grinned. "Take all the time you need. Just make sure to save a few for us."
As the Cullens prepared to leave, Teddy hugged each of them, still brimming with excitement. "Come back soon! I'll show you my new toys!"
Edward ruffled Teddy's hair. "We will, buddy. Thanks for letting us borrow your house for a bit."
As their fancy cars roared away into the night, Hermione turned to Harry, exhaustion creeping into her voice. "Well, that escalated quickly."
Harry laughed, wrapping an arm around her. "You've outdone yourself, as always. Now we just need to figure out how to keep up with the demand."
Laurent, who had been quietly observing, sipped his coffee and said, "You might want to set some limits. Otherwise, your mansion might turn into a pleasure house."
Everyone laughed, but they knew Laurent had a point. The potion had changed everything—and life at the Black Mansion was bound to get even more interesting.
