Luna had returned to Hogwarts a few months before Harry did, summoned by a mission that felt both desperate and impossible: finding an ancient relic from Ravenclaw House—the lost diadem. When Harry finally caved and told her about the Horcruxes and the reason behind his quest, Luna felt her heart flutter. They were huddled close beneath the Invisibility Cloak, sneaking through the corridors on their way to Ravenclaw Tower in search of answers.
After narrowly avoiding the Carrows, chasing the elusive Gray Lady, and stealing kisses between whispered plans and quiet laughter, their wild goose chase finally led them to the Room of Requirement. Time was running out. The castle trembled with the sounds of war, and by the time they located and destroyed the diadem, the Battle of Hogwarts had erupted outside the room.
Tears shimmered in Harry's eyes as he turned to Luna.
"Luna, there's something I have to do. No matter what happens... promise me you'll keep fighting."
She looked up at him, eyes wide with concern.
"Of course."
Harry pulled her into a kiss—fierce, desperate—as if it might be the last they'd ever share. Then, wiping away his tears, he turned and ran into the chaos.
Luna stood frozen for a moment, her breath catching in her throat until a masked Death Eater spotted her and raised his wand.
"Avada Ke—"
"Stupefy!" someone shouted. A jet of red light struck the Death Eater square in the chest. He crumpled.
Luna whirled around to see Draco Malfoy step out from behind a pillar, motioning urgently for her to follow. She sprinted toward him, and without a word, he pulled her into a long, tight hug. The moment was shattered by another spell flying toward them.
"Duck!" Draco yanked her down, the curse exploding against the stone wall behind them.
They crouched low, catching their breath.
"It's good to see you," Luna said with a crooked grin.
"You too," Draco replied, planting a quick kiss on her forehead. "But we don't have time for reunions. I need to get you to the Slytherin dungeon, you'll be safe there—"
"No, Draco," Luna interrupted, voice firm. "I'm fighting. I promised that I'd keep fighting. McGonagall said anyone of age can join. Well, I am of age. I'm staying."
Draco stared at her for a beat, then exhaled sharply.
"There are Dementors out there. I saw them. They'll need your Patronus. I'll help clear a path for you." He hesitated, frowning. "Wait—did you say you promised someone you'd fight? Who?"
A curse hit the wall beside them. They ducked and sprinted toward the courtyard.
"I promised Harry," Luna said, spinning to fire a Stunning Spell at a Death Eater on their heels.
Draco raised an eyebrow. "Are you two a thing now or something?"
They dove behind a column, narrowly avoiding a Killing Curse. Draco retaliated, hitting the caster with a Petrificus Totalus.
"Well... yes," Luna admitted. "But I hope that doesn't change our friendship."
"Why would it?" Draco said with a shrug. "You're a grown woman. Date whoever you want." He stunned another Death Eater, then flashed her a wicked grin. "Besides, I take pride in knowing I kissed Potter's girlfriend before he did."
Luna laughed, despite everything, as they reached the courtyard.
Just like Draco said, the Dementors hovered there, chilling the air even in mid-spring. The cold was suffocating; even the Death Eaters looked shaken. Luna raised her wand and cast her Patronus alongside a small group of others, pushing back the darkness.
Then Voldemort's voice boomed through the air, chilling them more deeply than the Dementors ever could. He offered a temporary ceasefire—an hour to bury the dead and bring Harry Potter to him.
Luna lowered her wand slowly, exchanging uncertain glances with the others. The moment was still, the battle paused, but the dread lingered in the air like smoke.
