Later that night, Cassandra and the others went to a pub to celebrate. Will, not wanting to go, was practically dragged by Ronald and Eric. They found a booth for themselves as they began drinking.
"You need to loosen up, Will! This is a time to celebrate!" Ronald smiled.
"We don't have time for this." Will frowned.
"Come now, William! This is the perfect time for us to spend some quality time together!" Grell smiled as she leaned against Will. Will pushed Grell away from him.
"It's not every day someone becomes a full reaper within a week." Alan replied.
"Yeah, that's true." Ronald nodded before looking over at Cassandra and threw his arm around her. "Not anyone does that. What's you're secret? Did you cheat or something?"
"No. I just have a photogenic memory that's all." Cassandra said, softly. "But I guess I can let you all in with a secret."
"What is it?" Eric asked.
"It is true I am a Shinigami; however, I am also part human as well." Ronald, Alan, and Eric's eyes widen in shock, looking over at Will and Grell. Will said nothing. Grell's eyes widen, looking at Cassandra in disbelief.
"Why would you tell them that!?" She shouted.
"We're all friends now. I don't see that point in keeping secrets. I trust you all." Cassandra spoke.
"Did you two know about this?" Alan asked Will.
"Yes." Will answered. "As much as this is against regulations, we need more help. This needs to remain between ourselves."
"Your secret's safe with me." Ronald smiled.
"I won't tell no one." Alan spoke.
"It'd be a shame to lose someone with skills like yours." Eric answered.
"Thank you." Cassandra smiled. "Although I do have a question, do attacks often happen during the test?"
"No. There are the usual cinematic record mishaps. But nothing like this. I'm going to be looking into it." Will spoke. Cassandra frowned in worry. This was no ordinary attack. This person was targeting a specific person. They were looking for her. It was her fault that this happened. Ronald smiled, standing up and held his hand out towards Cassandra.
"Hey, cheer up! This is supposed to be your night! How about a dance?" He asked. Cassandra blinked staring up at him.
"Um, sure." She smiled and took his hand, and Ronald pulled the two of them towards the small crowd of people who were dancing as well in the middle of the floor. Grell watched the two of them leave, feeling a hot feeling in her chest then glanced over to Will.
"Shall we dance too, Will?" Grell smiled.
"Not if you were the last thing on Earth." Will said, coldly.
"I like it when you play hard to get!"Grell grinned running her finger along Will's chest, pressing up on him. Will grabbed Grell's finger, squeezing it, tightly. Grell yelped in pain, pulling her hand back. Will stood up and left the table walking away.
"I'm heading back. Don't stay out too late all of you. We have a lot of work to do tomorrow."
"He wouldn't know a good time if it hit him in the face." Eric remarked.
"Yeah." Alan smiled a little before his hand went to his chest. Eric immediately saw the pained expression on Alan's face.
"Alan, is it-!" He said in worry.
"It's fine." Alan spoke. "I don't want to ruin this for everyone." Ronald and Cassandra came back to the table, finished dancing. Cassandra noticed that Alan was looked a little pale.
"Are you alright?" She said in concern. "You're sweating a little. Are you not feeling well?" "Can grim reapers get sick?"She thought to herself worried for Alan.
"I'm just a little tired." Alan spoke.
"Well, I had fun. I think we should call it a night. It is getting late. I'll come with you guys and start heading back home." Cassandra told them. They left and headed back to Headquarters. As they took one step into the building, Alan had collapsed, grasping his chest in pain.
"Alan!" Eric caught him before he fell. Ronald quickly came over helping as well. Eric peeled away Alan's jacket and unbutton his shirt. Cassandra was alarmed when she saw red thorn like patterns on Alan's body, slowly heading towards his heart.
"What's wrong with him!?" Cassandra shouted in worry.
"It's the Thorns of Death." Grell told her.
"Thorns of Death?" Cassandra questioned.
"It's an illness. It is contracted when a soul is destined to die becomes vengeful and fight against grim reapers that would reap it. It manifests in thorns that will eventually suffocate the heart." Eric explained.
"There's something to help him is there?"
"No. There is no cure. It will kill me eventually." Alan spoke through pained breaths. Cassandra was at a loss of words, feeling her heart drop. Alan struggled as he slowly stood up, supporting himself on Eric. "I've already accepted it. I didn't want to worry everyone, but it seems I did. And I ruined your night."
"No, you didn't." Cassandra shook her head. "Tonight was the best night I've had in a while."
"Come on, I'll take you back." Grell told her. Cassandra nodded and said goodbye to Ronald, Eric, and Alan and left with Grell. Cassandra quickly changed back into her work clothes, carrying her reaper uniform and swapping out her glasses. As they headed back to the Undertaker's shop, Cassandra was silent the whole way, worried about Alan.
There has to be something to ease Alan's pain...
Wait, she recalled there was a laboratory somewhere in the building. I'll stop there in the morning at figure out something.
"Here we are." Grell spoke, snapping Cassandra out of her thoughts.
"Thank you for taking me back." Cassandra smiled. "I'll see you tomorrow." Grell left and Cassandra stepped inside the shop, looking around wondering if Undertaker was still up. It was hard to see, however there were candles still lit, illuminating in the darkness. Cassandra turned around and closed the door behind her.
"He he he! I was beginning to wonder when you would return." Cassandra felt fingers snake onto her shoulders as Undertaker spoke behind her, making Cassandra jump, startled. She quickly turned around, seeing him standing in front of her and quickly hid her reaper clothes and glasses behind her.
"I didn't know you were still up. I didn't wake you, did I?" She asked him.
"No. But I am curious as to what you got behind your back?" He asked.
"I don't have anything." Cassandra quickly told him.
"You're a terrible liar." Undertaker tsked.
"You really want to know what I got behind me, do you?" Cassandra teased, smirking a little. She quickly lunged at Undertaker, who was surprised at first. Cassandra wrapped her arms around him, hugging him. Cassandra heard the Undertaker laugh and he wrapped his arms around her hugging her back.
"What is this now?"
Cassandra pulled away from, hiding her hands behind her back. "I haven't seen you much lately being gone all the time. I missed you."
"Where have the little rabbit been off to lately, I wonder?" Undertaker asked.
"I've made some new friends." She told him and yawned and started to head up stairs, quickly moving her uniform out of Undertaker's sight.
"You better get some rest then. Oh, and the young Phantomhive stopped by a few days ago." Undertaker smiled. "There's a case of children going missing."
"Children?" Cassandra wondered. "I guess I'll stop by to see Ciel and Sebastian tomorrow as well. Goodnight, Undertaker."
