Sess POV

As Rin waited for me to continue speaking, her beautiful eyes never left mine. She could tell what I had to say was important and so she simply waited. When she held her small hand out to me palm up, I didn't even pretend to hesitate to grab hold. The air was chilly but the sun was still high enough and warm enough to keep it from being freezing.

I took a moment to simply enjoy being with my Rin after a long day apart, my demon finally quiet. Though I had hated the time away from her it did allow me to have a conversation with my father, one I didn't really want to have, still Rin needed to know all her options not just what I knew to be the truth. Taking a breath, I opened my mouth to tell her just what was going on.

"I'm sure you have noticed how…..differently my demon responds to you."

Her soft giggle is still music to my ears and pulls an answering lift from my own lips.

"Yes, I have noticed he can get a wee bit cranky at certain things." Is the soft response she gives.

"Yes." Looking into her eyes she doesn't look worried or upset at all just patiently waiting. "Do you know why he responds the way he does?"

Her soft smile slips just a bit as she shakes her head no. Even though I had suspected she didn't it was nice to have it confirmed. Allowing me to tell her the whole truth without contest.

"With some demons it means nothing, they simply are aggressive and will take any excuse to act on it. Including a woman he has deemed his for the moment."

Her eyes stay on me and her expression doesn't change telling me she at least suspects my demon isn't one of those.

"In others like dog demons, wolves and even certain cats it means they have found their mate."

I wait barely a moment before pressing on.

"Do you know what that means Rin?" my voice has slipped back into the monotones of before.

"I…..I…I think I want you to tell me." She spoke so softly it was almost as if we had gone back in time to when she first started speaking again. Deep in her dark chocolate eyes I could see an emotion waiting to come through but couldn't read what the emotion was. So rather than make us both wait any longer and suffer more I did as she wanted.

"It means they have found the one person who is meant to be with them for the rest of their lives, their soulmate." I did try to read the emotions passing in her eyes this time just kept talking. "With dog demons it is the female who decides if she wishes to stay with the male. It's rare but some females have more than one mate and can choose who she wants or all of them. Especially if she isn't a dog demon."

"You're saying….I'm..I'm your mate?" her voice is so full of shock and disbelief I almost smile. Instead, I lift my free hand to tuck the hair the light breeze blew into her face behind her ear.

"Yes, Rin. YOU are my mate."

Ever so slowly the shock and disbelief turned into hope then understanding and finally belief. As her eyes filled with tears and a smile bloomed on her pretty face, I was able to name the emotion her eyes had been screaming for do long.

Even as she laughs and throws her small frame at me, I keep my gaze locked on hers. My long arms wrapping around her easily and enjoying the feel of her skin on mine as she rubs her face into my neck. Her arms are locked tight around my waist and her legs have mine cages on the bench, it's a place I would be only too happy to stay for as long as she wants. Finally, a smile pulls up my frozen lips and I tuck her closer to me pulling deep inhales of her sent into my lungs. The look of love shining for all to see from her eyes the only thing on my mind.
