Love Letters- Chapter 13, Letter 14
Kagome woke up to an empty bed. She could hear Sesshomaru's soft music playing from his study. Without opening her eyes, she smiled, it was so wonderful to have him home, she felt whole again.
Stretching and sitting up, Kagome wrapped herself in her robe laying on the edge of the bed. She knew Sesshomaru laid it out for her. Their small vacation was over and it was time for Kagome to start working on her paintings for the gallery opening again. She wandered into her study, right next to Sesshomaru's and started sketching. She had a new painting in mind that she needed to get onto paper.
Thinking, she sketched a hibiscus flower. To the beat of the classical music drifting through the open door of both their studies, Kagome sketched her full idea. Around the flower, she created a galaxy scene, with detailed planets and star formations. This idea came from the dream she'd had the night before.
She dreamt of the letter her secret admirer left her in high school. She'd gotten five letters from them, each talking about another art idea she reminded them of. The letters talked about flowers and galaxy scenes, nature scenes bursting with light and color with some element of galaxy or stars.
*Ten Years Earlier*
Kagome fought her locker until it finally pried open. It was always too full of sketch books and art projects. She sighed when another loose watercolor painting floated to the floor. Bending to pick it up, she noticed an envelope had fallen out too, landing next to her painting. The envelope was gorgeous, gold and embossed with her name on it. But where'd it come from? Opening it carefully, she pulled out the beautiful mint green stationary and started reading.
Kagome,
Your art is impeccable. I can only imagine what it's like to be captured by your beautiful eyes, through your paint brush or your camera. Your vision is beyond compare. Looking at you, being near you is like looking at the galaxy. There are no words for how gorgeous you are. You are celestial. Ethereal. I can only wish that one day I could be the person you could see. You've already captured me. I am yours and you have no idea. I belong to you as much as the flowers belong in your hair. As much as they belong in your art. You'll forever be my hibiscus flower, stunning and powerful, floating through an indescribable galaxy full of color. You, my flower amongst the stars, are beyond any compare. One of a kind. I'm captivated by you, and only you. One day, I'll tell you who I am. And I can only pray to your skies that you'll be mine.
Yours,
An Admirer
Kagome was floored. No one had ever said such beautiful things about her. As she carefully put the note back into the envelope and into her favorite sketchbook for safekeeping, she looked around. Who could possibly feel this way about her?
Sesshomaru tried to look as unassuming as possible as he leaned on his locker, listening to Miroku ramble on about his newest plan to get Sango to go out with him. He was looking at Kagome, watching her read his note. He scanned her face for a reaction, and turned his eyes back to his conversation when she surveyed the hallway for the writer. She wanted to know who wrote her such a thing, if only he had the resolve to tell her it was him.
*Present Day*
Sesshomaru let out a peaceful sigh as he finished his work for the morning. Their tiny honeymoon was over, and they both had to go back to work. Kagome's gallery opening was coming soon, only a few months away. He was working on a new merger with an up and coming marketing company. They were both incredibly busy.
Tashio Inc. worked almost exclusively in the art world, owning galleries, studios, and working closely with clients of all different genres. His newest branch, Image Productions, kept him the busiest as of late. His clients were the managers of huge musicians and starlets trying to make it big in the music business. They were needy, always calling him, desperate for the management teams he led. Every little thing was an emergency for them. He didn't mind them as much now, especially since he was far too happy to be back in his home office, knowing Kagome was so nearby. Nothing could bother him.
He looked at the clock, it was nearly time for him to go into work. The mid-morning sun was shining through his window. He knew his Kagome was sketching away, he hated interrupting her. He wondered if she wanted him to drive her to the Studio today. He worried that the paint smell would upset her stomach. According to Jaken, her morning sickness was horrible while he was away and he didn't want anything to trigger it.
Sighing again, Sesshomaru rose from his desk and moved towards Kagome's office. Looking through the doorway, he smiled, watching her sketch her idea furiously from her spot on the floor. Different details of the main painting were sketched out on separate pages surrounding her, next to a gold envelope he hadn't seen in years.
After a few minutes he knocked gently on the doorframe, "Kagome, I'm headed to the office today. Do you want a ride to the studio?"
She looked up, "Sure love. Now that you're home you won't insist that Ah-Un drives me everywhere, huh?"
He chuckled, "Your car is always breaking and since you refuse to let me buy you a new one, I feel better about you driving my car or Ah-Un driving you", he crossed the room and kissed the top of her head, "besides, he's a driver, that's his job."
Kagome rolled her eyes, "of course. Let me get dressed and we'll go, okay?"
He nodded and helped her to her feet. She kissed his cheek softly and wandered into the bedroom to find clothes. Sesshomaru gathered her most recent sketches from the floor and put them carefully back into her book. Once he heard the shower turn on he picked up the envelope. Re-reading his old letter to her warmed his heart in a way only Kagome could. He didn't realize she'd kept these, and that they even meant so much to her. He'd thought she gave up on trying to figure out who wrote them and tossed them aside.
He looked at his handwriting, careful and precise. He remembered trying to change his handwriting in spots so she wouldn't recognize it. His high school self was so certain that she'd reject him that he pulled out every possible identifier. He wondered if she still wanted to know who wrote them.
"Looking at my love letter?" Kagome asked slyly, putting her hair in a loose braid.
"You talked about them so much in high school, I thought you made them up." Sesshomaru tried to cover his tracks.
"Mm, nope" Kagome mused, gently taking the envelope from his hand and gathering her sketches, "how could I make you up, Sesshomaru?"
A deep blush colored his cheeks, "when did you figure it out?"
Kagome smiled at him, blue eyes bright, "After the second one. You asked me about my paintings in Art class and vaguely mentioned what color the flowers were going to be. You kinda told on yourself."
Sesshomaru shook his head, he remembered that conversation. He was so surprised that she was drawing what he wrote that he wasn't paying attention to his words.
"I love you Kagome." He said, kissing her free hand.
"I love you too Sesshy. Now let's go before Papa sends you away again for being so late!" She bounced out of the study and down the stairs. Sesshomaru followed, grabbing his briefcase and turning off the lights as he moved from room to room. When he got to the front door, he found Kagome looking through the hall closet for her shoes. She was bent, the loose dress she wore curved around her backside as she rifled through the shoes on the floor.
"Love, have you seen my other gold flip flop?" Kagome sighed desperately, she was so frustrated. She just had it!
There, on the counter next to her keys, was her flip flop. Next to her phone was the other one. Sesshomaru cleared his throat and gestured to the counter when she turned around.
Kagome huffed, "Pregnancy brain? Really? This is going to be a long day!"
He chuckled and gathered her purse, art bag, phone, and keys before opening the front door.
"Put your shoes on, I have everything else."
Kagome sighed and slipped on her shoes.
Sesshomaru opened the passenger seat to the car for Kagome and helped her in. On the drive to her studio, he decided to ask her about her morning sickness. He was surprised when she just laughed at him.
"Love, its all day long. At the beginning it was just in the morning but lately, it's been all day long. I've mastered puking quietly and I had Miroku put some shields up to keep you and Jaken from smelling it. I don't want y'all to worry about me. But it's slowing down, and that's what matters. Dr. Kadae says it shouldn't last past the second trimester, and I'm about a week away from that."
Sesshomaru let a smile come to his face as they pulled up to the studio.
"I just wanted to make sure you were okay, love."
Kagome laughed softly, "I know love. It's normal, I should've known Jaken noticed."
Sesshomaru smiled, reached over and kissed her hand; "have a good day Kagome, call me or Ah Un when you're ready to come home."
Kagome lifted herself out of Sesshomaru's car and gathered the bags, "have a good day at work Sesshy!"
"I'm serious Kagome! Don't make me call Inuyasha to babysit you!"
He could hear Kagome's laugh as she opened the door to her studio and walked inside. She was getting bigger and bigger as the days passed, and he loved seeing her belly swelling with his twins. She was 3 months along now, and her belly was just starting to poke out of her tiny frame. He could see her body growing, changing to make room and take care of the new lives growing inside it.
As he drove to his office, he imagined how exactly his life was going to change. He imagined the car seats in the back of his car. Tiny voices coming from his backseat. A smile came to his face as he pulled into his parking spot and gathered himself into the elevator, he couldn't wait to accompany her on her next doctor's appointment. They were going to find out the genders soon! He smiled at Kanna, his receptionist, as he walked into his office and settled into a day of phone meetings and making sure all of his clients were taken care of.
*Kagome's Studio*
Kagome was riding a high after her Art Show dinner. It had gone exceptionally well, she gained so many new clients for her paintings and they all wanted her to work with them for their personal photography needs. Now though, she had to finish her paintings for her gallery opening. Her new sketches, from the morning, were being put onto canvas today.
Kagome started her painting playlist, an eclectic mix of all of her music, and took her pencil to the canvas.
By the time Sesshomaru texted her to see if she was ready to come home, at 6:30, did she realize how much she had gotten done. Three of the five new paintings she wanted for the gallery opening were sketched to canvas and base painted in her watercolors. Tomorrow, she decided as she replied with her readiness to go home, she would bring one of Sesshomaru's old shirts so she can try the acrylics.
She gathered her things, locked up and waited outside for her love. One of Sesshomaru's nastier ex girlfriends, Kagura, was pulling into her apartment next door to Kagome's private studio. She glared deeply at Kagome's growing belly, and moved icily to gather her designer bags out of her shiny black Mercedes.
Kagome sighed when she saw Sesshomaru's Range Rover V8 pulled smoothly up to her. Even in the late evening, the matte blue looked beautiful against the sunlight. He spotted her discomfort immediately, and quickly got out of the car to help her into it.
"Hi Sesshomaru, I didn't know your sweet angelic love was about to have a little cherub of your own," She languished," I hope you didn't think you'd have a baby shower without me."
"We weren't announcing it yet, Kagura." He said icily, closing Kagome into the car. He rolled his eyes as a sickly sweet smiled crossed her lips as she mimed zipping them shut, "as always, your secrets are safe with me."
He got back in the car and angrily buckled his seatbelt.
"I fucking hate that girl." Kagome yawned.
Sesshomaru nodded, and put hand on her thigh. She put her hand on top of his and squeezed a little, they both wanted to keep their paradise to themselves for a little while longer. Kagrua, and her sister Yura were two of the top gossip columnists in the city. They had eyes everywhere, and had even out scooped TMZ on a few high profile celebrities. The story would be out by morning.
Sesshomaru drove them home, stopping for Wendy's and In-N-Out Burger on the way. Pulling into their driveway, Kagome awoke and started eating the fries.
"We chose our careers, love. And it was bound to come out on our own severs too. I'm literally huge already! We might as well just tell it before they do." Kagome smiled, accepting Sesshomaru's help getting out of the car.
He nodded, she was right. Plus, he'd been waiting to post on his instagram about his beautiful wife and babies. His PR team always encouraged him to be more open with his relationship with Kagome, since her instagram was much more open, although more metaphorical. Kagome's instagram was filled with pictures of Sesshomaru's sweet handwritten notes, or the times she suddenly found flowers or lunch sent to her studio. Some of his grander gifts, like the vintage easel he bought when they moved in together, and the beautiful book of photography from his personal camera appeared in posts as well. She teased her own presents to Sesshomaru, and overall had her social media platforms filled with her art, and affirmations from her love, friends, family, and fans. Her marketing team, managed by Tashio Inc., loved Kagome's down-to-earth, honest presence against Sesshomaru's quiet power.
The settled on the couch with their fast food and turned on the TV. As Sesshomaru flipped through the channels for something he and Kagome could agree on watching, Kagome pulled out her phone and posted a picture of her French fries resting on top of her growing belly onto her snapchat story. She then posted a phot she took at the studio, of her wedding ring in the natural light, and posted it to her instagram, officially announcing their marriage and growing family. Sesshomaru landed on Kitchen Nightmares, started eating, and made his own instagram post.
They both settled into their tv show and before Sesshomaru knew it, his love was fast asleep. He smiled, cleaned up their dinner, and carried her to bed. He stripped them both and settled Kagome into their bed. Pulling a piece of paper and a gold envelop from his side table, Sesshomaru wrote:
My Dearest Children,
I am more excited for your arrival than you know. You mother is so beautiful; your lives will be so filled with love. I have loved your mother from the moment I met her. To know her, is to know love. You two are the greatest gifts I could've made with your mother. You are our greatest masterpiece. I have only wanted to photograph your mother, extensively, but now, with the two of you I have two more muses. Two more reasons to create in love.
My deepest love,
Dad
