Mr. Lancer yawned, trying to focus on the road ahead of him. The monthly book club he was a part of with a couple other teachers ran long, and they didn't even get around to discussing the book today! He would have to ask if they were still going to read the next book or wait until they discuss the one they were supposed to talk about today.

He squinted at the road ahead of him and looked at the gravel shoulder. It looked like someone was walking along the road. It looked like a teenager.

As he got closer his eyes widened.

Danny Fenton?

He quickly caught up to him. He slowed to a stop and rolled down his window.

"Mr. Fenton?"

His head shot up and turned to look at Mr. Lancer sharply. But it wasn't Mr. Fenton.

It clearly wasn't him, but she sure did look like him.

"I'm sorry." She said quietly. "Do I know you?"

She looked to be a couple years younger than Danny. She looked as if she could be his younger sister but Lancer knew that there were only two Fenton children. Who was this girl?

"My apologies." He tried to smile comfortingly at her. "You looked like one of my students from back there. Do you know him? Danny Fenton?"

Her eyes widened and she turned more fully towards him. "Oh! He's my, uh, cousin."

"Oh. I didn't realize the Fentons had any family in town."

She shuffled her feet and avoided his gaze. "I'm actually from- out of town. I'm trying to get to Danny."

Lancer frowned. Did her parents know where she was? How far had she walked already?

He glanced at the time on his dash. It was already almost eleven o'clock. She shouldn't be out this late.

"Did you want a ride?" Her eyes widened at his offer. "I know where the Fentons live, it's on the way home. I could drop you off."

"I think everyone knows where the Fenton's live." She chuckled. "You'll take me to Danny?"

He nodded. "I promise."

She nodded back at him. "Okay. Thank you. You're very kind."

She pulled open the passenger door and climbed into the seat next to his. Once she buckled up he started driving again.

"So, where are you coming from?" Lancer would have to have a word with Jack and Maddie about this girl's parents.

"Uhh.. Wisconsin?"

He balked at her. "You walked here from Wisconsin?"

"Oh uh no I meant Colorado?"

His eyes widened even more. "Lord of the flies! That's even further away!"

She shrank down in her seat and he tried to calm down. "Do your parents know where you are?"

She didn't respond for a moment, her eyes darting back and forth. "I don't- no."

He shook his head. "You Fenton's. Always causing trouble." He sighed. "I will have to tell Jack and Maddie to call your parents."

He saw her turn to him with big wide eyes, fear etched into her face. "You can't do that!"

He raised an eyebrow at her. "Why not?"

She opened her mouth to respond but she didn't have an excuse for that. While she scrambled for something to say, he noticed something on her cheek.

Was that ectoplasm?

"Were you hurt in a ghost attack?"

"What?" She frowned at him but there was still a bit of fear in her eyes. Lancer pointed at his own cheek.

"You've got ectoplasm smeared on your face."

She wiped it off and stared at her hand. Horror grew on her face and then the ectoplasm was on her cheek again. What was going on?

"Look out!"

She pointed out the windshield at a car that had appeared out of nowhere and was veering towards them. He tried to swerve out of the way but he didn't think they'd make it. He braced for impact but it never came. It was almost as if the car went straight through them.

Then he heard her making noise. He looked at her and her hands were on the dashboard. Her eyes were closed in concentration and now she had a drip of ectoplasm on her other cheek.

He could hear the sound of the car driving away. He stared at her. After a few more moments she let go of the dashboard and he could feel something changing.

Did she make the car intangible?

She opened her eyes and looked at him. She seemed tired, like the act exhausted her.

"What was that?" He asked her quietly.

She shook her head. "You have to take me to Danny. You can't tell his parents about me."

"Are you a ghost?" He could see that him asking the question stressed her somewhat. Like she feared how he'd react.

"Something like that."

He nodded. He pressed down on the gas pedal and they were moving again. The car was filled with tension. He took a deep breath.

"Do his parents not know about you?"

She looked down at her hands and fiddled with her fingers. "They don't even know I exist." She whispered.

Lancer's heart dropped at her words. Something strange was clearly going on here, but this girl didn't seem to actually be a Fenton, no matter how much she looked like one. Did she even have anywhere to go?

He cleared his throat and she looked up at him.

"I don't know what's happening." He started. "But you seem to need somewhere to stay. What do you say we go to my house and you get some food and rest? We can find Danny tomorrow."

Her eyes widened in awe, and probably hunger, and she nodded at him.

Looking ahead of him, he saw that they were finally getting back to the city. The buildings were lit up and it brought a sense of comfort that a haunted town probably didn't warrant. He glanced back at her.

"I never did ask, what's your name?"

"Dani, with an i."

Of course her name was also Dani. But he smiled at her.

"Nice to meet you, Dani."
