Osana Najimi enters the school gate in a hurry because she is late and she sees a letter in her locker. She thinks nothing of it and she takes off her shoes and puts on her shoes that she has to wear inside the school building (Japanese school rules). After class she looks back at the letter she found in her locker and that is what it says.
I want to talk to you about romance. We will meet at the fountain at 3:30, I hope you are on time.
"That is strange.." Osana says to herself, maybe it is from senpai. But there is something. There is a nice girl who is the leader of the cooking club who acts differently when she is with her, her name is Amai Odayaka. Osana still remembers during the charity bake sale that she got an extra cupcake with a chocolate heart from her, a kind gift, she thought, because she does that all the time with the other students. She also went to her parents' bakery and Amai was very proud of her being there. Osana also remembers during Valentine's Day that she got a shortcake from an anonymous admirateur that she thought was from senpai but was actually from a member of the cooking club. She always gets a shortcake from Amai every time she comes to her to taste her pastries. Osana is very fond of strawberries, so it feels like a step of a new friendship.
"What's wrong, Osana?" someone asks Osana, it's her best friend, Raibaru Fumetsu.
"Oh, it's just a letter from someone." Osana answers. She starts to blush and hides her face, she is not ready for this rendezvous.
15:30
Osana is at the fountain and Raibaru is supporting her, she now has enough confidence to talk to the person. Raibaru leaves Osana alone for a moment and walks to the martial arts club. Osana is waiting and she sees Amai walking towards her. Amai greets her and her face is red, she is really happy to see her. "You put a letter in my locker and you want to talk about romance." Osana says to her, Amai nods.
"I know I don't know much about romance, but I want to talk about it with you." Amai has a small box in her hands, two homemade nigiri with salmon. She gives it to Osana and she thanks her. Amai takes a deep breath and she talks about a boy named Taro Yamada, also called (by everyone) as senpai. She talks about how much she loves him and how intelligent he is. Osana is surprised because she also has feelings for Taro, even though they are childhood friends, but because he rejected her she has problems with love.
"I had feelings for him too, but he rejected me." says Osana, Amai pats her shoulder and tells her that she still has time to have a boyfriend. They talk about cats and meet at a cat café near the school.
"I will see you tonight." says Amai to Osana.
"Me too."
Osana walks away from the garden and she feels a warmness in her chest, she and Amai had once had these conversations at the fountain. They have common interests and dislikes, like for example that they love cooking and hate occultism, Osana helps out at the cooking club sometimes and they are not friends but acquaintances. She sees Raibaru and hugs her, she tells her about Amai and how they are going to a cat café.
"That is fantastic, Osana." Raibaru congratulates, "You are very lucky today."
Osana starts blushing again and gets very nervous, she thinks she is developing feelings for Amai and she is very nervous. Raibaru sees it and tells her that she will give some advice after school. Osana thanks her and they go to their clubs, Raibaru to the martial arts club and Osana helps the cooking club.
17:30
In the cat cafe, Osana and Amai are sitting at a table, eating crepes together while looking at the cute cats that are wandering around the entire cafe. They are talking about their day at school and how they can go to the gardening club during lunch next time. Osana has already finished her crepe and there is some whipped cream on her cheek, Amai wipes it off, they smile at each other and they look at each other, their pupils dilating.
"I have a confession.." Amai says in a shy tone.
"What is it?"
Amai looks away for a moment and her face turns red, she takes a deep breath and looks at Osana.
"I'm not completely in love with Taro-kun, I-I have g-g ... She also confesses that she is now developing feelings for her too, she tells Amai how nice she is, how cute her giggle is and that she makes the best pastries in the whole village. They look back at each other and they realize how perfect they are for each other, Amai starts to smile and she giggles. Osana starts to blush harder and she smiles back, they hold hands.
"My little shortcake.." Amai says to Osana.
"You are the soy sauce to my nigiri.." Osana says back. They drink a strawberry milkshake together, looking at each other with love. Two cats, an orange cat and a gray fluffy cat, come to them and sit with the two girls.
"Hey, they look like us!" Osana calls out in a surprising tone, Amai laughs and strokes her head. The two cats are next to each other and they rub their heads together, they are really cute, just like the blossoming relationship of Osana and Amai.
After paying, they step out of the café holding hands. They walk around the village and go to the park, they see all kinds of flowers and plants around their surroundings. They sit down under a cherry tree, they look at each other.
"You are the nicest girl I have ever met." compliments Osana.
"Kindness is the key to life, it makes you experience the most beautiful things." answers Amai. They hold hands and they move closer to each other, they feel each other's warmth and softness. They move closer to each other and their lips touch, their hands hug each other and they feel each other's presence. They stop kissing and they laugh. They lie on the grass and they hug each other, they watch the sunset with a smile on their faces. A successful date without any drama.
