A/N: First attempt at fanfiction. Any spelling errors are completely mine. This fic takes place when Emily first joins the BAU but I will be creating a whole new case for it. Not a whole lot of Jemily, interaction in this chapter. Hope you guys enjoy it.

The flight from Chicago to Virginia was a light one. I walked through the BAU doors and headed straight to the Unit Chief's office. Aaron Hotchner was a serious-looking guy. I've watched a few of his interviews from his cases and it seemed that his face hadn't cracked a smile in ages. Maybe he doesn't know how to. I've met him before, in passing, when he was doing security clearance for my mom.

I knocked timidly on the hardwood door. I heard a tough voice say 'Come in." I struggled to open the door with my box of things in my hand.

"Hi! Agent Hotchner," I said rushing in and placing my things onto a chair in his office.

"I'm Agent Emily Prentiss," I said, reaching out to shake his hand.

"How do you do? Oh, you're, uh, Ambassador Prentiss' daughter," He said. I held back an eye roll. Years of building my own name, people still seem to only remember me because I'm my Mother's daughter.

"I did security clearances for your mother's staff. It was one of my first commands. I believe you were off to Brown at the time," Agent Hotchner said.

"Actually, it was Yale," I chuckled. "Go Bulldogs." Agent Hotchner hummed in response.

"I've been with the Bureau almost 10 years now," I said, after a moment of silence.

"Oh, don't tell me that. Has it been that long?" He asked.

"Apparently, sir. But I work mostly in the midwest. St. Louis, Chicago," I said. I could feel the awkward tension rising in the office and I could tell Agent Hotchner could feel it as well.

"Good. Your parents well?" He asked.

"Uh, yeah, yeah. They're great," I said, rocking back and forth. Hotchner nodded.

"Excellent."

Agent Hotchner and I had a mini staring contest.

"What can I do for you?" He asked. I looked down at my stuff.

"Well, I guess I was hoping you could tell me where to put my stuff."

"I'm sorry?" Agent Hotchner questioned. My heart rate sped up.

"I'm supposed to start here today," I started, "At the BAU." I reached into my box and handed him my transfer papers. A confused look washed over Agent Hotchner's face.

"There's been a mistake," He said. I could feel my heart beating in my chest.

"I-I don't think so, sir," I stammered.

"There's definitely been a mistake," He said to me. There was a knock on the door and I turned to see a young blonde woman at the door.

"Excuse me, we're getting started," She said.

"Thank you. I'll be right there," Agent Hotchner said. My eyes lingered on her figure as she walked away.

"I didn't approve this transfer, Agent Prentiss," He said walking away from his desk. My eyes snapped back to Agent Hotchner.

"I'm sorry for the confusion, but you've been misinformed," He said handing me my transfer papers, "Excuse me. It's very good to see you again," He said leaving his office.

"Sir, I-" I trailed behind him like a lost puppy but stopped at the door. He walked up to another agent and they took one look at me before continuing to walk down to the pit. I walked back into the office and placed my box back down on the chair. Fuck.

I barged into Section Chief Erin Strauss's office. I was angry and confused. But mainly angry.

"Why wasn't SSA Hotchner informed of my transfer?" I asked angrily. Erin took her glasses off and put down the file she was reading.

"Hello, Emily. Nice to see you've arrived safe and sound," She said. I rolled my eyes.

"Why wasn't he informed?" I asked again.

"It wasn't necessary. Elle Greenaway departed from the team and they needed someone in her place. Your transfer went through and you're a part of his team now," She said.

"You need to talk to SSA Hotchner and let him know what's up with the transfer," I told her. Erin sighed.

"What...what was that?" I asked her. She adjusted herself.

"I transferred you into Aaron's team because I feel like he is running a rogue team. Greenaway shot a potential suspect and Hotchner did not do a proper investigation into what happened that night," She said, "I have to make sure I don't have any rogue teams being sent out into the field. I can't closely watch every team."

I crossed my arms.

"You want me to be a mole."

"Is that a question?"

"No ma'am. It's a statement," I said, "I had put in numerous requests to be transferred into this unit over the years and I thought this time I got in because of my experience. It's only because you want me to be a mole."

"Emily, if you don't want to be in this unit, I can-

"No, I want to be in this unit but not as your mole, Strauss." I was angry at the thought of it.

"You have until Aaron and his team comes back from their case," She said in finality. I just sighed and exited her office.

I sat in the dark of SSA Hotchner's office. Erin gave me a heads up that Hotchner was arriving soon. Soon turned into 2 hours. He barged in and turned the lights on.

"Sir, I know there must have been a mix up with the transfer papers and you believe I don't belong to your team but I feel like I do," I said, "Please take a chance on me, Sir." Hotch looked tired. The last time I saw him, he looked more...happy with life. Now he just looked run down.

"Okay," He said, "I'm going to put you on a probationary basis." I stood up, ecstatic.

"Thank you! Thank you, sir!" I said shaking his hand rapidly.

"Don't thank me just yet," He said, "Be here bright and early so that JJ can speed you on who's who on the team."

"Uh, JJ?" I asked.

"Our Press Liaison, Jennifer Jareau. Any potential case goes through her and she chooses the one with the highest priority. She also handles the press during cases as well," He said, "You'll meet her tomorrow and she'll catch you up on the changes and the team." I nodded.

"Should I leave my stuff here or at one of the desks?" I asked.

"Leave them here. I'll get you situated in the morning," He said, sitting at his desk. I nodded not moving from my position. He looked up at me.

"Anything else I can do for you?" He asked.

"Oh no, sorry," I said, "Good night, Hotchner." I exited his office.

Once in my car, I let out a happy squeal. My phone rang and I knew my night couldn't get better.

"Hey babe," I said answering the phone.

"Hey, I'm back in Virginia and I miss you," She said, "I'm already back at your place." She being Clara Seger. She works for the FBI's International Response Team. She's usually away weeks at a time, flying to different parts of the globe. It's rare that she makes it back to Virginia. When she does, I know I will not be getting a lot of sleep that night.

It's hard to put a label on what we have since we don't see each other as much and when we do, we spend our time together...naked. We've been together for two years and not having a label on what we have has yet to complicate anything.

My phone's alarm blared. waking both me and Clara up. Clara reached for it and shut it off.

"Ugh, I just fell asleep," I groaned. Clara curled into my body some more.

"It's fine, I snoozed it," Clara mumbled.

"I have to get up. Gotta head to Quantico soon," I told her.

"The first day on the job," She said, "BAU." I nodded and snuggled into her naked body.

"How do you expect to hide these?" She said, tracing the hickies on my neck with her pointer finger.

"I could say the same to you," I said, admiring the loud hickies I left on her.

"My team knows about you," She said.

"How much do they know?" I asked.

"They know we've been sleeping together for a few years now and that you work for the FBI," She said. I rolled my eyes.

"Oh my gosh, they searched for me didn't they?"

"They tried to but-" My phone ringing cut her off.

I reached for it but Clara snatched it from my hands.

"Emily Prentiss' residence, her super-secret lover here. Who am I talking to and what is the nature of this call?" She answered.

"Clara, that's not funny," I said, taking my phone from her.

"Prentiss."

"Um, Emily Prentiss?" A voice said, "This is Jennifer Jareau. Sorry to call this early. I was just making sure Hotch told you to meet me at the BAU bullpen." My face flushed with red.

"Yes, He did. I'm getting ready now," I said.

"Okay see you soon," she said. Once the phone hung up, I flung it across the bed. Clara started kissing on my neck.

"Please don't do that again," I said, "That was one of my new colleagues."

"You and your air of mystery," She said, "They are going to find out eventually."

"I like my privacy. Who I'm dating does not concern anyone," I huffed, "I gotta get ready for work." Clara pouted.

"You're really gonna leave here upset at me after all that happened last night?" I got up from the bed and walked to my closet.

"You're the reason I'm running on three hours of sleep right now," I chuckled. I grabbed some clothes. Black dress pants with a white button-up and a black suit jacket.

"Wear the skirt," Clara said, "It makes your ass look good." I chuckled.

"Yea, I don't need them looking at my ass."

"But it's such a great sight to see," She said. I rolled my eyes and threw her a towel.

"I'm going to take a shower," I said, "If we're quick enough, we can get some coffee on our way to Quantico." Clara jumped out of bed and ran to the shower. I chuckled as I walked leisurely into the bathroom.

A/N: Please leave a review. I'm nervous about posting this since I've never really written fanfic before and I don't really read Jemily fics.
