Barely a whip cream cloud floated lazily though the endless blue of the sky. The ones that did drifted aimlessly, changing shape and having no intention of approaching the sun to obscure its warm glow. Barely a flash of white obscured the crisp blues and greens of the ocean. The waters were content with the melancholy of the day and saw no reason to waste energy to make white caps. Even the rhythmic whmpssh! And keehhahr! Of the sea as it kissed the land was tender and quiet. Warm winds calmly delivered their news and gossips to the trees. Today the leaves were mostly listeners instead of rustling amongst themselves to continue the gossip chain.
Nearly hidden amongst the wind-whispered palms stood a human structure; a house. Its design might have been tempted some to describe it as a glorified beach hut. Flowering vines had been invited to climb the support posts of the wrap-around porch. A wide path of pebbles and crushed shells led from the front step to the beach before it was swallowed by sand. The quaint beach cottage nestled in the trees far enough from high tide and the worst of stormy winds.
It hadn't been there terribly long but one would have never guessed such by the way it rested so comfortably tucked away from the shoreline. Few others than the sea, wind and its tree neighbors even knew it was there. Normally the cottage had a quiet and peaceful air about it. Today there hung a restlessness like fog. For certain something was happening, or going to happen soon. When this restlessness became apparent, the breeze seemed to soften, hushing the leaves and flowers. This was something new. Voices from within the cottage were to be expected. But this was an event none of the island residents had witnessed before. At best the winds had carried news of such from distant islands but never here.
The eager watchers and listeners were not waiting long. Restless voices swam through the rooms. One room in particular was getting a lot of attention. But after a while things settled. The tension, no, apprehension remained. They were waiting too.
A sound.
A sound the island had never heard before cracked through the air. It shattered the silence and broke the tension.
The breeze tickled the leaves and danced among the flowers. Excitedly explaining why this strange shrieking was important.
Immediately the island came to life again. Tree leaves shook as they stuttered a delighted welcome. Waves crashed harder with thunderous applause. The cacophony lasted for only a moment before excitedly gossiping to the four corners what they had witnessed.
A new Heart, a precious new light, had entered the world.
