It was nearing midnight as I stood near the cave entrance where I knew the dark scepter was held, and inside that scepter was a dark evil hedgehog I called 'father'. He had been locked away by Shadow and Silver who had stopped him years ago from destroying the earth. I glanced back out towards the city to see its peaceful form jutting from the distant hills.

The place had banned me when they learned from Eggman's stupid experiments that I was offspring of the deadliest villain. So there I stood in the wilderness staring at their pathetic existence as my anger rose. I was only ten and they had tried to manipulate me with their lies claimed to be my friends yet kicked me out. Even my brother, Tails, had abandoned me after I had accidentally lost my temper. Hot tears threatened to spill from my eyes as my hands tightened into fists.

"Why do we of darkness get treated this way?" I looked back towards the cave where I knew my life would either end or begin. With a flicker of hope that he'd remember me after all those years I went into the cave and through the tunnels. It was darker inside but I didn't care since I had inherited my father's ability to see in the dark.

When I finally made it to the back of the cave I found there on the boulder-like stand the dark scepter which glowed with his powers which let out a bit of mist. I hesitated a moment before I reached down to stroke the relic which they had created with a substance that had weakened my father enough to imprison him, it was created with glitter, the worst thing ever created.

I wasn't affected by it as badly since I had been born a hybrid but it did weaken me a bit as I took the scepter in hand and turned it over intrigued with the design. Though it only interested me for a second before the memory of why it was made caused me to scowl and throw it against the rocks at my feet. The glass and glitter shattered and flew everywhere as the mist exploded from its confines.

My fur got sprinkled by the mess as I backed up a step, coughing and waving a hand to clear the air. "Stupid glitter!" As I dusted myself off to no avail my gaze returned to the mist which moved towards me before sinking into the ground. It formed a puddle of shadow that bubbled like ooze before the form of a hedgehog emerged. I stepped back a bit as he looked up at me with his glowing slime green eyes, his anger and pain of betrayal still evident in those slits of pupils which glared at me for a moment before he straightened and approached me. His pale bluish black fur and quills held pale sky blue highlights and his shoes and gloves resemble Shadow's but with dull hues.

"Who are you mortal?" He hissed angrily as he lifted his claw to point at me.

Immediately I stepped towards him as I knelt down knowing exactly what he searched for. "I'm called Sonic, Sonic the hedgehog." I kept my gaze fixed on the ground as I waited for his response before he reached down and lifted my chin with his sharp claw.

"Hmm." He hummed in deep thought as he moved my head about inspecting me before he released his grip and brushed his claw against my ear which twitched slightly. "Why is the hero of this pathetic planet willing to submit to me so easily?"

I looked up at him a moment our eyes locked on one another before my ears folded back. "I'm no hero...all I am is a failure, as a friend to those who turned on me and as the son of Mephiles the Dark."

"You...?" His gaze turned from dark to confused before put his hand on my head and forced it back. "You are not my child, he died."

I stared at him for the longest moment before it clicked, he had thought I died when we were separated. I barely remembered him myself since he was imprisoned when I was three, I had only learned from Eggman's dna experiments. But before I could answer I felt his powers enter my head forcing me into slumber. As my body hit the floor of the cave my mind became invaded by his presence which loomed over me. His form re-emerged there as I also took form in the void of my mind.

Silently he began to go through my memories which made me nervous but I couldn't do anything to stop him since I had already submitted to him. My mind ached as he dug through my memories from the past ten years until he suddenly stopped. "So you did survive, and had taken a nickname? Smart...but also stupid Maurice."

"Well, I didn't want them to know my real name." I explained quietly as I felt him return my mind back to the way it was. "Besides they named me that."

"Who? The ones who had captured you or the ones who betrayed you?" He spat in disgust as he glared down at me.

"Th-the s-second ones." I looked down at my hands in shame, I had been a foolish and stupid child and had paid dearly for it.

"I see, since they showed you the kindness and acceptance you lacked when locked up you had grown attached to them only to be betrayed." His words were full of disdain as he turned back to my mind which he pulled something from before turning back to me. "Even though they implanted a chip to keep you under control?"

I stared at the chip he held as something old but familiar seeped its way back into me. "I-I...Th-that was f-from Eggman."

"Oh Maurice, sentiment for foolish mortals? Have I taught you nothing? Those creatures will never accept what's different from them." He then crushed the chip between his fingers before leaving my mind. I opened my eyes and sat up as he walked away, his steps leading to the exit of the cave. "Come Maurice, we must cleanse ourselves of this wretched glitter before we take our revenge on those pathetic mortals."

I obediently followed him to the river that flowed nearby and we both washed off the glitter allowing it to get swept away in the current. We then turned our steps to the city where I knew my father would kill many but I had lost the will to care anymore since they had turned against me first. My friends had turned against me, saying I was too unpredictable and that I had to be locked away. But knowing nothing could contain me they had run me out of the city, even Amy and Tails, my closest friends I had known for years had turned on me.

Mephiles took to the air as his form shifted to his nightmare form and I allowed myself to do the same. His fur turned purplish and crystally while mine turned black and mist-like, his eyes gained red sclera and mine became white voids. There was no doubt in my mind, I was destined to be the son of a nightmare, a villain who would kill those who had ruined my life.
