Gohan and Videl, The Galactic Patrolers
Chapter 1: An Undetectable Enemy
It was a clear morning when a 16-year-old boy, dressed as a superhero, was flying over the mountains toward the nearest city, renamed Satan City in recent years.
"I think I overslept. If I don't hurry, I'll be late again." he muttered as he looked at his watch before increasing his flight speed.
In 10 minutes, the city appeared on the horizon, and the hero headed toward the building with an orange star. Landing on the roof, he checked that no one was there and pressed a button on his watch, making his disguise disappear. At that moment, he heard the bell in the distance signaling the students to enter the classroom.
The boy quickly ran down the stairs and then down the hallway to avoid being late. He arrived at the classroom just as the teacher was about to close the door.
"Gohan, you should start coming earlier. You were almost late today. As good as a student as you are, being late is not allowed. Go ahead and take a seat." the gray-haired teacher told him.
"Sorry, Professor, I'll try to arrive earlier next time." Gohan replied with a nervous smile before climbing the stairs to his seat. He sat down, greeting his classmates he had met last week.
"In today's class, we'll start by looking at the limits that can occur in a mathematical function. Please, students, open your book to page 87." He spoke loudly to get his students' attention.
After a few seconds, during which murmurs and groans could be heard, he began to look at the students until his gaze settled on one of them. "Let's see, Sharpner. Could you read the definition in the book?" he said to a boy, who was characterized by his long blond hair.
With his hands on the back of his head and a pencil in his mouth, he replied, "And you think I brought the book to class?" He then gave a slight, ironic laugh, prompting laughter from his classmates.
Ignoring his students' laughter, he decided to choose someone else to read and keep his opinions about the boy to himself. "Would Erasa please read the definition?" This time he addressed the blonde girl sitting next to Gohan.
She was startled by the teacher's request, as she hadn't, in fact, brought the book. She was about to speak when her friend's book appeared from her right. Winking at her black-haired friend in gratitude, she began to read.
"Suppose f(x) is defined when x is close to the number a. We say that the limit of f(x), as x approaches a, is equal to L if we can make the values of f(x) arbitrarily close to L (as close to L as we want), taking values of x close enough to a (on both sides of a), but not equal to a"
"Thank you very much. Videl, since this is your book, could you explain in your own words what your friend just read means?" This time, he spoke to the person between Erasa and Sharpner. The black-haired girl grabbed her book and read it again before answering.
"I think it means that the limit exists if we approach a number from both sides and the function gives us the same value"
"That's correct, thank you very much, Videl. Is that clear to the rest of you?" After receiving approval from about half the class, he decided to continue.
"Okay, then we'll start working on the exercises."
The class ended normally until, during lunchtime, a classmate's watch beeped.
"This is Videl," she said to her communicator.
"We've got a robbery at the city bank, there's a hostage situation. We need your help," came the slightly robotic voice of a police officer over the phone.
Videl excused herself from her friends and started running out of the school. "Be careful, Videl!" her friend yelled. She raised her hand to show that she had heard her. Once outside, she threw a capsule to the ground, and a yellow jet appeared. She quickly climbed into it and took off toward the bank.
"Excuse me, guys, I'm going to the bathroom," Gohan told his blond friends.
"Don't get constipated again or you'll miss class," Sharpner joked, causing the boy to blush and earning an elbow to the ribs from Erasa.
Heading toward the bathroom, once no one was watching, he changed course for the roof. Once on the roof, he pressed the button on his watch and transformed back into the superhero.
"The bank again? The first time I met Videl was when they were robbing the bank, and it wasn't even a week ago," the boy spoke to the air as he headed toward the bank.
He could see a yellow jet landing; knowing who was on board, he decided not to intervene immediately. He would intervene if it got out of control, but something inside him wanted to see his classmate fight the robbers.
From above, he could see everything clearly. There was a pickup truck parked on the sidewalk, likely their getaway vehicle. Three criminals were standing at the entrance, armed, and inside, a fourth accomplice was controlling the crowd. The street was surrounded by police, so they had nowhere to go, but with hostages on their side, the situation was favorable for them.
He could see the black-haired girl approach the police to talk to them. Then she circled around the area and approached from the right of the bank where the largest robber, who was carrying a rifle and was the most dangerous of the three, was.
She threw a can between them and simultaneously jumped on the giant, kicking him in the temple, knocking him out instantly. At that moment, smoke burst from the can, obliterating the two accomplices. The one on the left felt a blow to the back of his head before falling unconscious on the sidewalk. Hearing the crash, the remaining thief turned around only to receive a blow to the stomach that knocked him out. Seeing the attackers' swift defeat, Videl began to receive applause and cheers, causing her to blush in embarrassment, distracting her from the fight.
"Come on, Videl, it's not over yet, don't get so confident." the superhero thought from the sky. "Die, idiot." a voice came from inside, so he decided to act and stood in front of the vigilante just as the burst of gunfire began. As if they were traveling in slow motion, he could see them exactly. Deciding not to risk a stray bullet, he caught them all. He dropped them and then punched him in the jaw, turning off his lights.
She couldn't understand him, and it frustrated her. How he flew and how he could catch bullets didn't make sense. Besides, he was incredibly dumb. The last time they met, she had been subtle about calling him by his name and had almost given himself away, not counting the hesitation in his voice. "If the subtle way doesn't work, I'll try a more aggressive one" Videl thought.
"Wait!" she yelled at the superhero, stopping him before he could even begin his flight.
"What's wrong, Miss Videl?"
"Where are you going?" he asked, hands on his hips and a frown.
"Where evil can't find me, so they won't be waiting for the Great Saiyaman to show up to save the day!" He shouted back so everyone could hear his voice. "I must have sounded great with that line."
Ignoring his cheesy line, probably confirming once again that the hero was a fool, she continued with her plan. "That's strange. Where you seem to be heading is the same direction as the route to my school," she said with a smile on her face, practically thinking she had trapped him.
A nervous laugh appeared on the hero's face. "Hahaha, what a coincidence, right? Well, I have to go. Bye, Miss Videl," he replied hurriedly, taking off to get as far away from that place as possible.
"Do I really give away any clues about who I am? The two times we met, it seemed like she was going to give me away if I stayed any longer," Gohan thought as he flew toward the school roof. Then he tried to remember their encounter from last week.
They were in class. Videl's clock rang, and then she hurried out of the classroom. Erasa had explained that she fights crime and the police had called her for help. Asking to go to the bathroom, Gohan left the classroom to find her.
Once he arrived with the girl, she had already taken care of a criminal. Suddenly, the other guy had pulled out a gun to shoot her, so he decided to make his introduction. He had practiced all night, so when he introduced himself, he left everyone speechless. Easily catching the bully, he handed him over to his classmate.
That's where she almost discovered him. "Thank you for helping me. Was your name Saiyaman?" she told him.
"It's nothing, Miss Videl. My duty is to protect people."
"Who are you really?"
"I can't say, Miss Videl."
"Come on, Gohan, at least tell me how you got out of class."
"Well..." he swallowed when he realized he'd almost revealed his identity. "I don't know who this Gohan guy is. I'm sorry, but I have to go," he finished nervously, then quickly took off and left the place.
Really, he hadn't given her any clues that would reveal his identity. That girl must be psychic, that was the only option.
In the Milky Way galaxy, there are criminals just like on Earth. So, to combat them, the King of the Milky Way created the Intergalactic Patrol. The patrol is made up of brave patrolmen who sacrifice their lives to maintain peace in the galaxy. In turn, the patrolmen are required to wear the insignia with pride and commitment.
At the patrol's central base, there are all the prisoners held since its creation and some surviving prisoners who were captured by the patrol's predecessor. Right now, they're moving around a lot and seem quite nervous.
"Agent Jaco, are you sure you detected Saganbo's spaceship in your area?" An agent with a round, green face spoke as he watched some radars, but they didn't return any response.
"I can't confirm exactly since the signal only lasted a few seconds. But from the way he disappeared, I'm almost sure they activated their ship's turbo" A short person with purple skin and yellow eyes answered.
"Damn it, we won't be able to detect them until they run out of fuel."
"Do you even know which direction they were heading?" This time, a green octopus spoke, wearing a crown on its head, indicating it was the king.
"In the direction of point SU88 toward point 9045YX, Your Majesty."
"Okay, radio for the nearest agents to head toward that location immediately."
"Yumpa, let this be the last time you make us stop to eat. If we stayed any longer, they would have detected us," said a yellow, human-like dinosaur. At first glance, he looked quite skinny.
"Enough, Zauyogi. I had to eat. My body needs it," replied a fat panda bear with food scraps on the corners of his lips.
"Enough fighting! They've most likely detected us with the radar, but the speed of this spaceship doesn't allow them to chase us, so I don't want the group to weaken," said an orange specimen with a yellow mohawk. The way he commanded the others showed that he was the boss.
"Okay, sorry, Zauyogi. Next time we stop, I'll grab more food, so we don't have to make an emergency stop," said the panda, offering his hand, which the dinosaur accepted.
"Boss, we have a problem. Our Blue Aurum reserves are running low." "We'll only be able to maintain turbo boost for two days," said the ship's pilot. He was short, light green, and had triangular tentacles sprouting from his head. "Two days is a very short time, Tsumorekka. As soon as we brake, they'll detect us instantly," he replied, then turned to the only person who hadn't spoken the entire trip. He was characterized by a smooth head with three gems on his forehead. "Hey, 73, can you tell us the nearest uninhabited planet that might contain Blue Aurum?"
"According to the computer data, it's a green planet. We need to turn in the 2-2-0 direction. There shouldn't be anyone there, and it has large oceans and fields, so there could be a large amount of Blue Aurum," he spoke in an emotionless voice, and his facial expression suggested it had no natural life, but was instead an android.
"Okay, let's go. Hurry, Tsumo." The pilot obeyed and turned in the direction his companion, who was still sitting cross-legged, told him.
In the distance, through the ship's windshield, a green dot could be seen. This planet was orbiting between three stars. And for the first time in 24 hours, the android opened his eyes, which were pure black.
"In 10 minutes, we'll arrive at the planet," he warned his companions.
"Okay, prepare for landing."
The planet was becoming more and more visible; the green color could be clearly seen, and large blue oceans adorned its crust. The presence of clouds indicated that it had an atmosphere dense enough to breathe.
The ship landed on the planet's surface, causing a strong impact that left a large crater and raised a cloud of dust. Once the smoke cleared, the ship's door opened, and all its occupants exited.
"Whew, fresh air. It's good to be able to breathe it," the dinosaur spoke to the others.
"My computer detects 80 inhabitants on this planet."
"73. You and I will talk to some of its inhabitants. Meanwhile, Yumpa, Tsumorekka, and Zauyogi, go investigate the planet and see what you find. Take the ship with you" the leader of the organization said.
"Great Patriarch, we have intruders on our planet," said a tall, green person with two antennas hanging from his forehead.
"Yes, I've sensed it. They don't give me a good feeling. I'll tell the warriors to return to their villages. We can't leave the elderly and children unprotected," said someone with similar features, but he looked older and was holding a cane in one of his hands.
Looking toward the horizon, he closed his eyes to concentrate. "I already told everyone to return. I hope they don't come looking for the dragon balls. For nothing in the world should we allow them to keep them." Just as he finished speaking, footsteps were heard outside the house.
"Excuse me, is anyone here?" said the orange humanoid.
"I'll go and talk. I'll try to find out what they're here for," the old man told his bodyguard.
The front door opened, a cane poked through it, and then the old man. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?"
"Oh, but you're an old man. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Saganbo, and we're space scientists. We search for planets to analyze the life forms on each one. But upon arriving at your planet, we ran out of fuel, and we wanted to know if this planet has Blue Aurum, since it's the only way our ship can function."
"Are you scientists and couldn't calculate the fuel needed for your trip? I don't believe that story," the old man objected wisely.
"Look, I don't care whether you believe us or not. Just tell us if your planet has the mineral." This time, sounding irritated since his story hadn't worked.
"Go away, I won't give you anything. I could read your thoughts, and you're space thieves. Hey, Ant, fight against them. With your level, you can do it," he ordered his bodyguard, who left the house.
"This planet, along with its people, is a peaceful place. I won't let you bring chaos to Namek," he said before getting into a fighting stance.
"I'll distract him, and you'll know what to do," he said quietly to his companion, thinking his enemy couldn't hear them. But the slight movement of Namek's ears confirmed that he could hear the strategy perfectly.
"I think two against one would be unfair." I will fight you alone, my partner will wait his turn on that rockāsaid Saganbo aloud just before he and 73 received a punch in the face that sent them far away from the Patriarch's house.
"Don't think I'll let you strategize, much less that we'll fight near the patriarch," he said to the cloud of dust created by the impact of the two thieves. When the cloud dissipated, only Saganbo was in sight. The android had disappeared.
"Don't think you can fool me. I heard exactly what you said to him, so he won't be able to catch me off guard. So, I'll defeat you first and then find your partner. It shouldn't take more than five minutes." Finishing his speech, he reached out to grab Saganbo by the leg. He lifted him up and slammed him to the ground.
He rose into the air and shot toward Saganbo, who was catching his breath and managed to cover himself just in time before receiving a punch to the jaw. He grabbed the green arm and began to extend it and elbowed him in the forearm, breaking his arm. "No matter how strong you are, you were defeated by the great Saganbo at the first blow," he said, and began to trail off when he saw his opponent tearing off his arm. A few seconds later, it regenerated like a lizard.
"In case you didn't know, we can regenerate," he said before snapping the fingers of his regenerated hand.
At that moment, he felt a hand grabbing his neck. It belonged to the android, who had hidden himself and caught the Namek off guard. On the android's forehead, Ant's image appeared reflected in one of his gems.
"Well done, 73, I knew I could trust you. Hey, green bug, I'll give you some information before I die. 73 can copy the powers of the enemies he grabs by the neck," Saganbo said, causing the Namek's eyes to widen.
"Can copy powers? Don't make me laugh. You're just bragging."
"Show him your powers, 73."
The android charged with a punch in the same manner as the Namek, colliding their fists and generating a shockwave. Then they both punched each other in the stomach, indicating they were practically on the same level. However, being an android, 73 didn't suffer the physical toll Ant suffered. While recovering, he was hit in the jaw, sending him flying. After that blow, the Namekian never got up again. "If I pretend to be unconscious, I'll be able to get more information. I can't beat someone who's as strong as me and doesn't tire."
"Well, it seems you're no good even for training. Just two hits and you can't get up. In that case, I'll kill you myself," Saganbo said before beginning to charge energy in the palm of his hand.
"Wait, boss, that guy's data has given me some very important information. This planet doesn't have Blue Aurum, but it has something more important," the android spoke, stopping the leader.
"And what would that be?
"The Dragon Balls."
