Took us quite a bit but we're finally back with this story. We're doing our best to try and write more often and at a faster rate, obviously it doesn't always work out, but we do what we can.
Anyway, hope you enjoy this chapter, so let's go!
"Weak." Kyle snorted as he sat across from Natsu in the train taking the group to Magnolia.
"Shut up…" Natsu mumbled, half his body hanging out the window.
"So that's a Dragon Slayer only thing huh?" Saito said, eating some chips he got from the trolley.
"Guess so." Tony mused, while Happy ate some tuna flavored chips.
"Don't worry Natsu, we'll be back home soon!" Happy said to cheer him up.
"Yay…" Natsu said weakly, only to groan and… well the noise made it obvious what was going on outside the window.
"Anyway… why are you coming with us to Magnolia?" Tony asked curiously as he looked to Kyle.
"Well… I kinda wanna join Fairy Tail." Kyle admitted with a shrug.
"It's because of Lucy isn't it?" Saito asked in deadpan.
"W-well…" Kyle blushed, looking away.
"Dude… trust me, I get it, I'm the same for Erza." Tony told him with a nod.
"Ah… glad I'm not the only one." Kyle said with a laugh.
Meanwhile, in a different cabin, Louise abruptly closed the window. "I am SO glad we're not in the same cabin as that idiot," she grumbled, having heard the sound of Natsu being sick. That and that they were in the cabin AHEAD of him rather than behind, seeing as she could hear Gray shouting.
"Oh that was on purpose," Marcus snorted. "We just didn't make it obvious since we didn't feel like starting a fight in the train."
"Glad I chose to sit with you two then," Louise said a bit wryly.
"I'm surprised Saito didn't catch on," Will smirked a bit.
"His loss in this case," Louise shrugged.
"Still… I'm getting this weird feeling right now." Will said after a moment, frowning.
"You too huh? I wonder why that is." Marcus said with a frown of his own.
"What's wrong?" Louise asked them in concern.
"We're not sure, it just… feels like we're forgetting something important, something that we really shouldn't be forgetting." Marcus answered, deep in thought.
Ultimately though neither of them could really figure out what was nagging at them, and before long they'd arrived back in Magnolia. However…
"Does the city feel a bit different today?" Saito asked as they noticed some people looking, and they were speaking in hushed whispers.
"Considering how tense everyone looks…wonder who did something THIS time?" Louise said dryly.
"Maybe Gildarts is finally in town? Or the asshat." Marcus said with a snort.
"You REALLY don't like Laxus huh?" Will asked his brother with a sweatdrop.
"The guy needs a hard reality check, I know for a fact that now that I have access to Dragon style, I can beat his punk ass." Marcus said, completely sure of himself.
"Don't you think that's somewhat cocky of you to say?" Erza asked idly.
"I literally just need WizarDragon to finish the Land Dragon Style ring and I'd become impervious to most of his attacks since I'd qualify as an Earth elemental in that form, and I doubt he can raise his output so high he'd cause any sort of breakdown voltage or something similar, especially since he doesn't bother to really train." he answered matter of factly.
"Uh… what'd he just say?" Natsu asked after a moment.
"Electricity doesn't work on earth, and he's saying he'll become immune to most of what that Laxus guy can throw at him soon." Kyle translated for him "Guessing he's a strong lightning magic user like me?"
"He's a Lighting Dragon Slayer." Will answered, causing Natsu to turn to him in surprise.
"Wait, he's a Dragon Slayer too? How come nobody told me?!" he asked in shock.
"From what we've heard, he's not quite like you. He just has a Lightning Dragon Lacrima installed in his body, unlike you who learned your magic naturally from an actual dragon." Marcus explained.
"How do you even know this stuff?" Gray asked curiously.
"We know what to listen to." Will said with a grin. Any further conversation was put on hold when they noticed the Guild Hall coming into view…and stopped short.
"What the hell…?!" Marcus gasped, a similar notion the others shared as the Guild Hall had a myriad of metal pillars shoved into it…or was it poking out of it? Either way, the guild was currently badly damaged.
"What happened here?!" Saito asked in shock.
"Somehow I doubt this is some kind of remodeling plan, yeah?" Kyle asked, a worried frown on his face.
"The guild may be eccentric, but it's not THAT bad." Lucy said, looking at the building in worry.
"I hope everyone's ok… still, who did this?" Louise voiced what they were all thinking.
"Phantom Lord." a voice nearby answered them, causing the group to turn to see Mirajane walking up to them "They're the ones who did all this."
"Phantom…" Natsu said, growling, while the brothers looked even more concerned.
"Is anybody hurt?" Tony asked with a frown.
"Thankfully not. They attacked in the middle of the night when no one was in the building." Mirajane said with a sigh "We're using the basement for now until we can get the main building repaired, come on." she said, guiding them to a set of stairs behind the building as they went down, soon reaching the basement storehouse of the guild where they could see everyone.
"Hey, the gang made it back!" someone shouted, earning a few cheers of relief from other members.
"Hey, did you guys see what happened to the guild?!"
"How could they not? It's like a giant eyesore right now up there!"
"Damn Phantom Lord, coming to bust up our guild!"
"Those bastards have always loved to pick a fight with us."
"We should go destroy their own guild hall too!"
"Shut up idiot, this is Phantom Lord we're talking about here!"
"Well, everyone's lively like usual." Saito said with a sweatdrop.
"That's good in its own way at least." Marcus said with a smile, even if he still looked a little worried.
"Everyone was pretty shocked when they arrived here this morning." Mirajane said with a smile as she led them to the makeshift bar, where Makarov was sitting as usual, drinking from a mug.
"Yo, glad you brats made it back." he greeted them with a grin.
"Hey, this ain't happy hour old man!" Natsu shouted, getting in Makarov's face.
"Calm down Natsu, one thing at a time." Makarov sighed, pushing the dragon slayer out of his face. "So, you completed the job?"
"They did, I was the other party involved in it." Kyle said, stepping forward "Turns out the cause of things getting bad was what we found out was a juvenile elder dragon called a Gore Magala. Honestly, even I'd never heard of that until these guys told me about it." he said, gesturing to the brothers, Tony and Saito.
"Well, they're not exactly common…and we just happened to have info on them," Tony shrugged. "More importantly, I guess we should fix the guild before Kyle registers," he said, before looking to Kyle. "I imagine you'd rather join up in a place that ISN'T ready to fall apart."
"Eh, I've done important stuff in less safe looking places," Kyle shrugged. "Joining up with a Guild that needs to repair its hall? Just a slightly odd Wednesday for me."
"...you're gonna be right at home with this crazy house. I can tell right now," Louise said dryly.
"You gotta be a little crazy to be a Devil Slayer," he said with a rather mad grin.
"Oh? So we're getting a new recruit like that huh?" Makarov said with an interested grin "You're sure you wanna join up boy?"
"Positive. Beyond the fact I worked well with everyone, I've only ever heard praise about Fairy Tail. That and I heard you guys have some of the best food for miles." Kyle added with a laugh.
"Ah, yeah that's because of me." Will said with a smile "Though I can't cook without a proper kitchen right now sadly."
"Ah, that's too bad, but I'll look forward to when I can try it then." Kyle said, before he turned back to Makarov "So, how do I join?"
"Simple, I just give my approval, and you've already got it." Makarov laughed, accepting the magic stamp from Mirajane "What's your favorite color kid?"
"I'd say yellow." Kyle said, presenting his left forearm, the guild mark being stamped onto it in a bright yellow "Nice. Tattoo stamps are really nice and easy."
"Better that than a needle like people did way back in the day." Makarov chuckled.
"Never understood the point of literally putting ink in your own body," Kyle shrugged. "Now then, since I'm part of the Guild, what's the first order of business? Cleaning that up, or making the guy who did it need to pick up the tab he's racked up?"
"Yeah, guess we COULD just these Phantom Lord guys the repair bill huh?" Tony chuckled.
Makarov barked out a laugh at that "I like the way you boys think! So what if they trash the guild hall, we can repair it bigger and better, AND force them to pay for it too!"
"What's important is that everyone is safe, right?" Louise figured with a smile.
"Exactly." Makarov nodded with a smile of his own.
"I still think we should go kick their butts." Natsu mumbled, his head on the bar table, before he got chopped lightly on the top of his head.
"That's why you're not in charge." Marcus said, lifting his hand back up with a sigh.
"War between guilds is prohibited, especially guilds as strong as ours." Erza said, though it was clear she wanted to fight as much as he did.
"I can imagine. We're collateral damage prone just doing normal missions. Actually going to war with another Guild that's comparable to ours? I feel sorry for anyone caught in the crossfire," Saito sweat dropped. "Anyway, do we want to get this mess cleaned up now, or…?"
"Oh don't worry about it just yet. You all just got back so I'm sure you must be tired. You can always lend us a hand tomorrow," Makarov said cheerfully.
"Speaking of later…I'm not seeing Levy and her team around," Will mused. "Were they out on a job when this all happened?"
"Huh… good question." Lucy said, frowning a bit as she looked around as well, not seeing her fellow book fan around.
"Oh they should be fine. They were in fact working on a small job just outside town, so they should be back in a few hours," Makarov said, waving their concerns off.
Marcus frowned a bit, sharing a look with Will, but there wasn't much they could do.
"So… this is your place?" Kyle asked, walking inside the house owned by the group. He was a bit surprised at the first floor being a jewelry shop run by Marcus when he wasn't out on a job, but that was pretty unique really.
"Pretty much. We figured it always pays to have an extra line of work, plus that way the place kind of pays for itself," Marcus chuckled.
"So uh… you guys have spare bedrooms, right?" Tony asked, being present as well.
Due to the attack from Phantom Lord, Makarov had said that everyone should stay in groups to be safe, so Tony and Kyle both went with Team Gateway for now until the two could find their own places.
"Yeah, bedrooms are on the third floor, there's five of them, one being a guest room. Second floor is the main living space, and first floor, of course, is the shop." Will explained, gesturing for them to follow upstairs.
"Man… pretty cool." Tony said with a grin as he looked around, Kyle agreeing as he nodded.
"Speaking of cool, I actually got some new gear when you guys went out to Galuna." Saito told the brothers with a grin.
"Oh yeah? Let's see it." Marcus said, interested in seeing what Saito bought.
Saito grinned, before he glowed, and a set of silver and blue armor appeared over his clothes "Well, what do you think? Figured it was time I got myself my own armor since I can actually requip now."
"Did you get just the one or any specialty armors?" William asked.
"Ah, no specialty armors just yet, those were a bit more costly." Saito said with an awkward laugh "But I DID get some rare level weapons though." he said, summoning a saber with a wicked looking black blade "This is a Magic Eater sword, and, obviously, it cancels out any magic it slashes… or, well, most of it, too high rank and it probably won't do much." he added with a sweatdrop.
"It's a good idea for sure, what else you got?" Tony asked with an interested grin.
Saito grinned, before the Magic Eater was replaced with a long halberd, the blade shaped like a metallic red flame "A Blazing Halberd, as you can guess, it generates fire with it's attacks, and…" he trailed off, the weapon being replaced again, this time replaced with a large, golden hammer "A Quake Hammer, earth elemental and can cause localized tremors."
"Definitely a heavy hitter. Those are some good choices." Kyle nodded in approval.
"Yeahp, and for the last weapon I have for now…" Saito trailed off, the hammer soon replaced with… a shotgun.
"Bro…" Marcus said with wide eyes.
"Man, you got yourself a boomstick? Nice." Will grinned in approval.
"The best kind too." Saito smirked, showing it was a pump action type "It's basically a regular shotgun, but I've got some specialized magic bullets, namely Storm, Burst and Gravity."
"You boys done playing with your toys?" Louise commented in amusement from where she sat in a lounge chair, causing the guys to laugh a bit "Still, I DID get something new myself." she admitted, getting up "Too bad I can only use Inversion Magic and my Explosions, at least until I figure out what my problem is." she said as she went upstairs to her room to get what she bought.
"So…" Marcus started.
"I'm not spoiling it, just give her a minute." Saito snorted in amusement.
"Fair enough." Marcus shrugged as they sat down and waited, though they didn't have to wait long as Louise soon came back, clutching her heavy cloak around her, before she opened it up with a smile, revealing some light, metallic pink armor on her torso, along with some hip armor, as well as a short silver spear about as long as her arm.
"What do you think? I felt I should make sure to at least have SOME protection, and I can defend myself if anyone gets in close now." she said proudly.
"Definitely a good idea. With how fast some guys are…you'll want to have at least some form of protection," Will nodded.
"No kidding…some of the people here look like they could break someone in half with just a casual kick," Tony sweat dropped.
"I didn't need that image," Louise said dryly.
"At least it's not Dragon Ball." Saito muttered to himself, before he shook his head as he sent his armor back into his requip space "Anyway, what do you think's gonna happen with Phantom Lord?"
"We'll probably actually send them the repair bills as a 'take that' for them trashing our guild hall, but beyond that… maybe try to tell the Council to give them some kind of black mark, since from what I hear, they're always the ones starting shit." Marcus said thoughtfully.
"If they keep doing that, sounds like they REALLY want to start a war or something," Kyle frowned.
"Well fortunately Makarov is pretty level headed so he wouldn't fall for that. Honestly the only way he'd be pushed to actually go to war is if they…hurt…one of the…guild members…" Marcus said, before he trailed off, as if he realized something. "...Levy and her team aren't back yet, despite how easy the job they took was. You don't think…?"
Everyone slowly paled at that, while Will's eyes widened suddenly "Oh shit…" he whispered.
"We should go and look." Saito said seriously.
"One big group, don't split up." Marcus said seriously, as they all quickly ran out of the home and onto the street, with the brothers discreetly bumping fists and connecting their minds.
'What the hell is wrong with us?! How did we forget this?! Worse part I can't even remember exactly where Team Shadow Gear is supposed to be at! Hell, I can't remember the name of WHO hurt them!' Marcus sent, an angry frown on his face.
'Doesn't help that I'm pretty sure the event was pushed back. I THINK we were supposed to find the guild destroyed after we got back from Galuna, but instead it's like the timeline decided to hit the brakes on canon for a few more days, and instead we met Kyle.' Will realised as they two ran with the other four, looking around as they tried to find Levy, Jet and Droy.
'We may have a theory.' Chimera said to both of them.
'It's possible that what's affecting your memories… is the curse that you had Mystogan try and help you break a while back.' Dragon revealed to them.
'This damn thing!' Marcus thought in anger, a scowl on his face as a hand touched his neck, where he knew the curse was focused on.
'If it's affecting not just our ability to speak, but even erasing some of our memories of the original timeline… there's no way this was put on us by Zeref somehow, this is…' Will trailed off with a worried look as he glanced to Marcus.
'An actual divine being, probably higher than even Ankhseram, put this curse on you… likely in an attempt to prevent you from heavily derailing the timeline more than you have just by being present.' Chimera said with a nod.
'Great…just great. Some jerkass deity is trying to force things to stay as canon as possible,' Marcus growled in his head.
'We gotta hope that whoever this god is, they won't just erase us outright, and hopefully we can still fix some things.' Will sent, earning a nod from his brother.
'Yeah, all we can do,' Marcus agreed as they continued searching.
"Hey, what's that ahead?!" Kyle suddenly called out, the brothers looking ahead to see people gathering in the park by the town's southern entrance, near a large tree. The moment they saw what it was, their eyes widened in horror.
"Esaeler meht yltneg!" Louise shouted without hesitation, as the target was Team Shadow Gear who'd been beaten up and basically affixed to the tree with metal restraints, while having the mark of Phantom Lords painted on them, the meaning of all this being very obvious.
Either way, the magic took effect as the restraints came off, the three of them being gently lowered to the ground.
"Hey, someone needs to get a doctor!" someone in the crowd shouted, a few people starting to run to do just that, while Marcus frowned heavily, pulling out a new ring he'd made recently and scanning it on his belt.
"Loud, Please!"
"Everyone in Fairy Tail, get down to the southern entrance of town! Right now!" he shouted out, his voice carrying through all of Magnolia and making several people wince at how loud it was.
The effect was soon visible as it wasn't long before pretty much every member of Fairy Tail in town was gathered, just in time for some medics to be in the middle of making sure Team Shadow Gear was okay…relatively speaking.
And of course, quickly enough…
"Master…" Marcus said when he saw Makarov approach, his face shadowed, wearing his white coat, stopping when he saw Levy, Jet and Droy on the ground, being tended to by medics.
Slowly, he lowered his head, putting a hand to his face "Wrecking up our bar, that I could deal with, just laugh it off and flip them the bird, but this? To harm my children?" he trailed off, his grip getting so tight on his cane it started to splinter "No parent can remain silent when his children are hurt!" he said, his cane finally breaking as he looked up, his face enraged "This means war!"
Nobody else disagreed with him, the faces of every Fairy Tail member as murderous as his was, as they all moved.
Phantom Lord was going down.
And it's finally time!
So first, Kyle officially joins Fairy Tail's ranks, giving the guild a bit more firepower.
Second, showing off equipment that Saito will be using very soon, along with Louise arming herself slightly.
Third, the reveal that yes, the curse on the brothers is even worse than what they initially believed, being able to tamper with their minds to a degree.
And finally... it's time for war.
Phantom Lord is in for a world of hurt.
